    You can’t push your equipment harder than the cable and that’s how people used to drive back in the days and it was absolutely normal. The input you applied to your pedal would equal to the input received by the throttle valve - instantaneous, which would be equivalent to U9 setting on the idrive. The lag in response only came with introduction of ECUs and I’m not exactly sure if the lag is intentional and designed to work this way for a better comfort and relaxed style of driving or it’s just a byproduct of the new drive-by- wire system not being able to process input signal as instantly as a cable and companies just decided to adapt transmissions to the new way of how throttle works.

    • @ExpeditionBuilds

      Well stated RUS! I think the modern drive by wire set-up calibration must be for safety/comfort. I really noticed it when I got my Jeep JK and that's what prompted me to go look for something tune the throttle input response.

I'm still playing but really for my daily driving style I really like U1 on trail I'm U1-3 for me again my driving style. That what great set it to how you drive, everyone foot and reactions time are different. Love how little and out of the line of sight it is on my Jeep. Now my 18 had a module right next to throttle sensor that had to be unclipped and moved. Just FYI to others two release clips on module at bottom and drop to release and out of way to get to throttle plug.

      These throttlebody controllers do not change, control, or re-program any of your transmissions parameters! More than likely it is just a placebo effect most likely due to the fact that it was free! Having so many settings is just ridiculous and unnecessary, At most you are only going to be using two maybe three different settings!

  • @phillipcraggs6202
    @phillipcraggs6202 Год назад

    My under standing is these don't change or connect to anything in the ECM or transmission. These just change the position of the throttle butterfly compared to where the gas pedal is.
    So for example, if you press the gas pedal 1/4, the butterfly will open 1/2... I don't know if thats the exact range but it 'tricks' the throttle to open quicker.
    If this is all it does, its not worth it to me. If I want 1/2 throttle, I give it 1/2 throttle.
    Thanks for sharing, but these things are just tricking you to think it gives you more power when its just opening the throttle faster compared to your input.

    • @ExpeditionBuilds
      @ExpeditionBuilds  Год назад +1

      Hi Phillip, appreciate your thoughts/comments.
      Your logic is correct, but here's what you have to understand about throttle controllers. You cannot move your foot as fast as the electronic controller can react with regards to changing the throttle maps. So, in essence, you can't duplicate the quick, smooth or big hit by simply mashing the throttle faster with your right foot. Hope this helps.

    I just started to look at throttle controllers and this is a great video. I don't know the mapping would matter with a manual transmission. Does the idrive have a blue tooth option? I did see the PC has 8 settings per mode - a plus and a minus side. The AC mode on the idrive looks like it would be the most useful since that is where most driving is. Thank you for the comparison.

    • @ExpeditionBuilds

      Hi Chris, good hearing from you. I think having the ability to tune throttle response for a manual transmission would be an asset, as I find the stock throttle response to be so vague/lacking.

    I have a 2019 MAZDA CX-5 GT Reserve (2.5 L. turbo, AWD)
    i-Drive seems to affect the ECU map and I do NOT want any flags popping up on my ECU if the dealer checks it. They know I already have a drop-in K&N air filter and stiffer Cork Sport turbo down tube so they would be more kilely to check my ECU for flags.
    WILL the i-Drive affect anything but the Throttle Position Sensor voltage?? Does it really control the transmission shift points?

    • @ExpeditionBuilds
      @ExpeditionBuilds  3 года назад

      Hi Eric, good hearing from you! The iDrive and other types of throttle controllers are working only through throttle assembly. The iDrive is adjusting the torque request to your throttle table, which in turn affects the shift points. I do not believe it can program shift point mapping, but having the throttle ask that is what affects the shift points. It does not leave any codes for your dealer to detect. I hope this helps.

Then while idling I pressed the peddle and for a few cycles got no noticeable acceleration. then it would accelerate very slowly. I turned the engine off and restarted. same issue. third try no problem and set at 2.6 the throttle was very responsive. I drove the truck the rest of the day with no issues. This morning I got un to go to work and t=it was just like when I first installed it. Turned engine on and off a few time the same as the first and it worked fine getting to work. Will see if this "relearn issue is a daily thing. if it is it is coming out. This would be kind of sad because it really wakes up the truck.

    Did you notice any changes in fuel efficiency?

    • @ExpeditionBuilds
      @ExpeditionBuilds  4 года назад +3

      Hi Deron. It all will depend on which setting you choose to run. The E(ECO) setting is designed to deliver better fuel efficiency. I'll keep an eye on fuel consumption. I'm going to be running the AC (Adaptive) setting. It sure makes for a much better driving experience.

    Wow, that iDrive looks very very flimsy and cheap in comparison to Pedal Commander. If you are one to switch a lot I think that iDrive will fail quickly. PC is very rugged.
    You get what you pay for. iDrive is all chi-com made. PC is all USA. I would think you need t use both for a few weeks to do this more complete.

      Hi Mark, good hearing from you. While the iDrive is a very different design than the Pedal Commander, it is very solid and well made. I switch mine often and it works well. Best of all, the iDrive maps work better on the Jeep.

    Nice review Steven. So this is much better than the Pedal Commander? Tak

    • @ExpeditionBuilds
      @ExpeditionBuilds  4 года назад +1

      Hi Tak, great hearing from you. Yes, the programing/maps on the iDrive make it the better of the two. The Pedal Commander will allow you to adjust pedal sensitivity and works well.
      Where the iDrive unit excels is the complete integration of pedal sensitivity and transmission shift points.
