- This is my experience going through airport security for the first time after getting my pacemaker implanted. I talk about the arch type metal detector and the full body scanner.

Great video! I’ve been going through your videos with interest. I am an ICD patient and also make videos for patients. The fear of airport security is one of the biggest anxieties device patients have, so I’m glad to see another patient (and fellow borg) putting out great information like this. Nice work!
Thanks for watching, and providing feedback. Glad you got the borg references. I'll check out your channel too.
i figured they would just beam you aboard, live long and prosper!
I wish they would have! Live long and prosper!
The last time that I flew commercial they were just bringing online the full body scanners. As I was about to go through, I told the operator that I had wires, stents, and plastic in me (before pacemaker). Without showing interest, he waved me through. As I was collecting my items, he yelled out "Man, you twinkle like a Christmas Tree", loud enough for all to hear (a bit embarrassing). I'm going back in for catheterization, with probably more stents or bypass surgery on Nov 4, 2022. Wish me luck. I'll post again if I make it.
Hi CharleyL, thanks for sharing your airport experience. That technology is useful for detection, hope next time they are more discrete about your scan. Good luck with your surgery, and I look forward to seeing your update!
Good luck! All the best to you.
Thanks, good luck to you also!
Hope everything went well ❤❤❤❤❤, i am also using an ICD, i got it fixed in October 2020
Plz advice did u experience any interference during flying onboard coz am afraid from aircraft nevigation interference
Thanks for this video. This is my experience. First off, I have a CRT-D device with 4 leads. I was told that the full body scan is safe. Your pace maker shouldn’t “set the scanner off” , but the worry is that the scanner may interrupt the signal to your pacemaker. I travelled recently and elected to show my card and tell them that I had a heart device and also said that I preferred the pat down with no wand. They were very accommodating. Now having said all this, I travelled domestic within Canada. I am hoping that wherever I travel, all security in all airports will also be accommodating. 🤞
Hi, thanks for sharing. I always choose the millimeter wave scanner over the arch type metal detector. It has never been set off. Please do what you feel comfortable with, and what your doctor recommends, no need to add extra stress to traveling. Best wishes!
Thanks for the information 😘
Your welcome, thanks for watching.
The idiot at the courthouse security told me to put my hand over my pacemaker as he went over my body with a wand. Like my hand would protect it from magnetic forces somehow. It triggered a tone from my ICD. Every metal detector security needs to go through device training. Not guess what should be safe.
Thank for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Do you have to take a blood thinner while using a pacemaker? Thanks for sharing.
I don't take blood thinners. I don't think it's necessary unless you have other medical conditions that require it. Thanks for watching!
Plz advice did I noticed any changes during flight? I mean on air because am afraid of hight altitude and nevigation aircraft interference, plz advice
There should be no issues flying at high altitude or with interference with the plane. Your device was designed with these activities in mind.
Are there any issues with airplane cabin pressures if you implant is within a couple of weeks?
Not that I know of, but please check with a doctor.
Hi Can I ask few questions about your device?
What brand of pacemaker do you have? Is it also with icd function?
There were some malfunctioning cases before with previous brands devices
Also, can you really feel the leads inside the heart ? Does this give even very little bit of pressure on the heart and could influence the heart bit ?
Do you think someone with very weak heart can get influenced by the leads ?
Do you always feel or especially when you move?
Hi, My device is from a major manufacturer, and is a small MRI safe device. I have called any type of implant and ICD, including pacemakers. I'm not sure if you mean what it is used for? Mine is just for increasing heart rate, not for more complicated issues.
@@CyborgVlog I mean can you sometimes 'feel' the lead of the device in heart ?
@@7ren10, I don't feel the lead in my heart at all, I feel the main pacemaker unit under my skin, but that is it.
Hi am tamer I have a dual chamber one, bSed on my experience
I can help if u have questions am all urs
@@CyborgVlog hello dear, can u specify ur pacemaker type plz, and I agree I only feel the device but just wondering if they need to change the leads is it a big problem?
i also have a pacemaker, even if the risk just 0,001 % i would allways get a cop!!! to help me thru, the security is working for YOU man!!! so stupid
My Father has an ICD now from Boston Scientific, and we are planning to fly for the first time but now I am scared after reading something about ARCH, what does that mean??
In my video I was talking about an arch type metal detector at the airport security. Talk to his doctor about his device and how to handle that. If you know the model of his device, you can also look on the Boston Scientific website to see what is safe. I hope that helps, and wish your dad the best.
@@CyborgVlog Ok thank you, I will definitely do that and we'll talk to his doctor. I wish you the best as well.
👍
Am also using Boston ICD, i got it in 2020 October.
This is bad advice. The "arch" type (the old, square box) is NOT safe for pacemakers.
I have to disagree. My doctor and my device manufacture both say it is fine. They do warn against having the wand type hand-held detector used near the pacemaker. As always, please check with your doctor about your specific situation.
even its just 0,001% % this it not worth to get you in danger, awful
