In this video, I restore a black-painted MCM chest of drawers I found at a thrift store. The overall condition of this piece of furniture was pretty good. However, there are some veneer issues that we have to deal with. Watch to see the entire process!

I would not have thought the beginning piece could end up looking like the after piece! That is stunning!
Glad you liked the final piece :)
This is your channel, choosing a sponsor is your business. Fantastic job you did on this project. Well done😊
Jamie..I think this turned out beautiful. You sure did great on replacing the veneer. The hardware and legs and brass look stunning. I absolutely loved the stain. I love your channel and I always look forward to a post. Thank you for all you do. I know it’s time consuming to make these videos. 🇺🇸👍🏼
Thanks so much! I really appreciate your comment 😊 videos are certainly time consuming, but having great viewers like yourself make it worth it!
That dresser would have easily been priced at $100-$150 at any one of my local thrift stores. Great score!
Thanks! I haven’t been thrifting as much as the prices have gone up, but every now and then there is a decent piece at the thrift store for a good price. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful your job!🌷🌷
Great job Jamie and a good call on the drawers. The piece has been brought back to life ❤
Thanks Allison! I think the new veneer was needed to truly bring this piece back.
Thanks for watching :)
I love seeing the restoration of MCM pieces. You’re a rock star! Thx
Definitely worth saving! Turned out great!
Thanks so much! Glad you liked the final product :)
The after is so much better. Really pretty.
Thanks Diane :)
That turned out great! The Temu-sourced gear seemed to do the job, I'll be curious to see how long it lasts!! Contact cement and veneer is my enemy but it works. Well done!!
Thanks Matt!! I was surprised with the sprayer and happy with how it sprayed the poly to be honest haha but I know soon I am gonna mess up bad with contact cement and veneer lol
Wonderful restoration! It is so much better now!
Thanks! Glad you like it
Great job!
I just love watching you flip furniture oh my goodness you take trash to treasures for sure Love it keep them coming thank you so much for the knowledge that you explain some of the stuff I knew but a lot of it I didn't So thank you once again
Thank you so much!
You did an amazing job. I wasn’t happy when you covered the detail on the drawers but your vision was much better than mine! It’s a lovely piece. You do wonderful work. 😁
AMAZING! So glad you took it back to its original look but even better! Really very nice restoration job. I always enjoy your videos you share your knowledge and why you are doing what you do, it helps so much for those of us that refinish furniture vicariously through you! 😊
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoy watching and listening to the process :)
Просто чудесное перевоплощение.Браво.
Thank you so much!!
You did a super job of restoration. It is very nice. Carol from California
Thanks Carol! I appreciate the kind comment :)
I was pronouncing it Tee-moo until I found out it’s Teh-moo. Great that they sponsoring this video. Congratulations! Great job with the dresser!
I realized this too hahah but it was too late lol and thanks so much! Thank you for watching :)
This looks great!! Wonderful restoration on these drawers 😍👏🤩 Honestly, it’s so easy for someone to jump on their high horse and make a judgement about sponsorships but it’s not them having to pay the bills and keep the lights on 🙄 A lot of people aren’t able to drop hundreds of dollars on tools, or don’t want to as it’s not their profession, and Temu has filled that gap in the market.
I was excited to see how this project was going to turn out 😊 I'm not worried about who sponsors you. Keep up the great job 👍
Hell yea. Nice work man.
Thanks Jeffery! Appreciate it!
Wow! Tremendous difference! Loved this!
Thanks Shelley :)
You done some job making that look great again! It’s beautiful. All that hard work paid off. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It was interesting to watch how the temu products worked. Definitely not high-end but they got the job done. I have a love-hate relationship with Temu
I was surprised myself! They did the job!
Looking Beautiful Color Nice. Cool! Good Job👌🏽👍🏽🙌🏽🥰
Thank you!
Great end result. I prefer dark wood and the hardware was a find.
She turned out beautiful.... excellent job!💯
Thanks D Bird :)
I love your attention to detail!!!!

Great job! Definitely worth the work you put into it.
Thanks so much!!
Fabulous job! Absolutely worth saving.

That Blake left in the grain will be PERFECT for antique oak stain.
Looks great! Totally worth it!

Thanks so much!!
I like it. Nicely done!❤
Thank you! :)
Beautiful and great work.
Thanks Ric!
Very nice! I do like to Have some questions and to have some opinions, so don’t be mad at me. I wonder, on the drawers, why you chose to put the veneer in the horizontal direction instead of
the vertical direction that it had from the beginning? I also like the carved lines ontge the drawers front. Do you think it would be possible to, not fill the lines with Puddy , and on the new veneered drawer’s fronts, feel with your finger, mark the middle and cut in the middle and fold the into the line. If it’s doable you then coul take-a marker with darker color. I know it would take much more time and effort, but do you think one could do it like this?
I often think about alternatives ways to do things, so don’t take it personal. I just want to learn
Thank you 😊
I will never be mad at someone for asking me questions :) 1. I chose to put veneer horizontally because it wasn't wide enough to go vertically. The veneer sheet was only 24 inches wide, the drawer was like 30 something inches. 2. I liked the carved spots too. I believe they are a technique called scoring or grooving. Do i think what you said is possible? Hard to say.. I think the best way to achieve this with new veneer is to do what I did for the veneer and use the proper tools like a router, dremel, or a proper hand tool to make the grooves.
I appreciate your questions and your interest in the project. It shows your interest in the video, and I truly appreciate it! Thanks for watching :)
Beautiful dresser!🎉
Thank you! :)
Sorry I'm late 😂 another great job J! I really like this one and that brass came up lovely 👍 On a side note I feel the need to say; I don't consider it any of my business who sponsors your videos, it's my business whether I click the links or use codes. We could **all** make more conscious decisions about what we support in this world but good decisions aren't made if we're hungry. 💗🙏
A nice find. I'm glad to see you showing all the TEMU tools. I need some clamps and those small clamps you used to clamp the frame to the workbench look just like what I could use. That little sander seemed to work really well. I've watched a lot of flippers put on veneer, but I must say you made this look so easy. I like the outcome. The only thing I would change is the hardware on the top drawer. I think those handles are too small. I would like to see something larger that would harmonize with the ones on the other drawers.
Thanks for watching! and I can understand that, they are a bit small!
A lot of hard work but stunning .👍👍
Thanks!!
Definitely worth saving
Glad i did!
Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
Really nice work. Wow!❤️
Thanks so much! :)
Fantastic, as usual.
Thanks Julia!!
How awesome, such a great work 👍👍
Thanks so much!!
Stunning. Ugly duckling into a swan. Awesome job.
Thanks so much!!
Nice. Definitely worth it.
Thanks so much!
That Dreaded Moment when You Realize the Veneer has Failed and It Needs to be Replaced! You did a Great Job! I do Feel that the Color is Too Dark and Makes the Piece seem a little Flat. I Think You had the right Idea with the Legs. I Think the Hardware would have looked More Compatible with a lighter Shade. Your Tutorial on Applying the Veneer was Detailed and Thoughtful! Thank You.😀😁😀😁
Looks great. That stripper does work really well, but you need to apply it liberally (ie pour it on and spread it out with a spatula).
Nice job!!!!!!!!!!!
Really nice.
Thank you!!
Good save!
Thanks Bonnie!
I love the nice warm color you got from the stains and polyurethane. The “new” pulls look MUCH better with the gold wax. Given how cheaply you purchased it, this should bring you a nice profit if you’re going to sell it.
It’s a damned shame that the veneer on the drawers was so badly damaged. I love the carved grooves in the top and bottom drawers, but I also understand why you had to cover these disasters with new veneer.
Yes, too bad the veneer wasn't salvageable, but the new stuff should look good for quite some time! Thanks for watching!
Very nice. 👏👏👏
Thank you! :)
The only thing I would have done differently is I would have kept the lines and added them to the other 2 drawers as well. I liked the lines.
The lines were cool! Maybe for a future project I can research how these lines are properly made to try it out!
@@FurnitureFlippa That would be really cool
I'm glad you replaced the veneer. That wood grain was not that great. It turned out beautiful!
Thanks so much :)
Well done, Flippa.
Thanks!!
@@FurnitureFlippa You're very welcome. You really saved that piece.
Is there a specific reason why you apply the new veneer perpendicular to the grain of the old veneer?
Yes, the veneer wasn’t wide enough. The veneer sheet was only 24 inches wide, the drawers were like 30 inches wide.
Did you use the 80 grit initially to get the paint off? And how many sanding pads did you have to go through before you got all the black paint off?
I used 120 grit initially, then finished with 240 grit. I used 1 piece of sand paper per side! And 1 piece for all the drawers. The sand paper didn’t gum up at all which was great. 👍
@@FurnitureFlippa wow OK that’s not very much sandpaper paper. I always buy my sandpaper from Temu now lol but I seem to go through a lot
👍👍👍👍
What type of wood was the original wood? Was it Elm or was that just the black paint residue? No word expert here just curious.
Absolutely worth saving! You did an excellent restoration!
NO to TEMU, I refuse to support CHINA!!
Thanks so much! Glad you liked the restoration.
And I understand, I recently addressed this in another comment.
B🎉
Good idea for someone like me who has only one or two pieces to refinish, I really didn't want to pay big bucks for tools that I would never use again. Love how it turned out by the way.
Poly goes on floors, not furniture.
hmm, poly goes on furniture nicely actually!
This is your channel and you are free to take sponsorship from whomever you please. Don’t listen to the haters. I personally like TEMU and shop with them often. Oh, I love the dresser.
Too bad you filled.the cracks...
I like your videos and you do quality work however I am shocked that you accepted a sponsorship from temu. Everything they sell is junk and is designed to undercut everyone else and put them out of business. The Chinese government does not need to be made wealthier. Please dump them as a sponsor
So agree
And I!
I agree. I guess times are tough but this is not the way.
So amazon is ok ... Bezos earning billions and staff slavery....we are adult enough to make our own choices and choose which propaganda we want to agree with...
I disagree.
I always like your work and your videos. I particularly like your explanations. I am disappointed that you took on Temu as a sponsor. I know you want support for your channel but I hope you understand the company is subsidized by the Chinese government, allowing the products to be underpriced. Even worse is the way they treat their employees. They are underpaid, forced to work long hours and work faster. The stuff is cheap, quality is bad and they end up in the landfill, something you are trying to combat by refurbishing furniture. Please reconsider.
And the tools won’t last
Temu is not an employer. It’s a marketplace just like Amazon. And in case you haven’t noticed, most of what you buy everyday comes from China
It's a shame that you are using products from Temu. Have you investigated their humanitarian practices and how workers are treated? I like your work and have been following your channel for awhile now. You have a real talent. Keep up the good work you do, but Temu.??
Temu! Really? Do your research.
feel free to email me any information, thanks
I've never purchased or wanted to order anything from Temu I heard the products are like the gumball machine nothing like Dewalt or any other machinery nothing from China 👇
Stopped watching when Temu came up
It's sad you make advertisements for temu. Temu sells from China, and the things is so cheap because of what the Chinese workers are getting paid. Basically nothing. The postage is heavily discounted by the Chinese government, in order to take over markets. There are no ce markings so you don't know if the products are safe. Please don't shop at temu. Will not watch this video, hopefully your next video won't be filled with this crap.
Temu is crap. Unsubscribe.
Temu uses slave labor.
It looks not so cheap after the restoration....🥸🥸
Thank you! I think adding some new veneer really helped make this piece look a bit more expensive!
Great job!
Thanks Stephanie!
