The scene right after Buzz learns he is a toy is haunting. He walks slowly to the stairs while a song comes in. The song almost sounds like someone reminiscing on their glory days, like a race car driver who got in a bad accident and can’t race anymore. All the verses end with “And I will go sailing no more.” It is like a child growing up and trying to recapture his childhood, but finally coming to terms that he can’t.
Thanks man, means a lot. I agree, the more I analyzed it the more I realized it had some deep things to say. Make sure you don't miss my final video about Toy Story 4, I think it will be a good one!
Toy story 1 is my favourite Pixar film. I'd class it as a pretty much PERFECT movie. The concept of the film, toys coming to life and showing the logical things they would have to deal with is such a creative amazing idea. The plot of buzz thinking he's a real space ranger is also a creative amazing idea and it makes the first two thirds of so of the film so much more funny and entertaining. I love the relevant themes throughout the film, the character development of woody, how he learns what being a toy is truly all about. The stakes and the scale is small but they make it feel big because you go on the adventure with the toys and see it from their perspective. Sid isn't a complex villain but he's still great. He's scary and menacing because of his capabilities and how he's the opposite of Andy. They create so many creative and classic children's toys and build an accurate child's room. Woody speaking to Sid is such a good scene and of course "this isn't flying, it's falling, with style" scene in the climax of the film is just such a goosepump uplifting moment. And finally the film is sprinkled with a very underrated, great soundtrack
Toy Story is the best out of the entire series. Wanna know why? Woody and Buzzes dynamic is the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life. Their relationship is genuine, rocky, silly and super sarcastic. The humor in this movie was ahead of its time and EVERY SINGLE character is iconic in this film. Amazing.
Some found it annoying. I found it refreshing that woody isn’t a boy scout or and I forgave him for being a understandable jerk unlike other movies where I couldn’t forgive them.
woody by admitting his jealousy and saying he wants to die makes buzz who did accept his own mortality to realize that being andy's toy can give him meaning and must be worth it if woody cared that much about it in the first place enough to get jealous and throw him out a window ..ironically buzz by waiting too long fails and woody who was trapped but telling him earlier to save him is the one we root for in that situation cause buzz can save them both if he wants and chooses not to act...love that
Yeah as an adult, while those cans are clearly soda (Grape soda, root beer, etc) it can be interpreted as Sid's father may be a drunkard which leads to a toxic family.
The fact that toy story is the only movie which comes to mind that covers perhaps the most common problem in our society(jealousy) is pretty admirable since it handled the issue so well
I think I Can identify what stage you marked as ??? In Buzz’s phases of realization he’s a toy. In the scene, Buzz is playing with his own detached arm, like an airplane, as if it were a TOY. This phase is most likely trying to understand what had just happened to him and is likely a state of anger.
The first film has always been my favorite because Woody’s character growth is amazing. He’s such a self-serving asshole initially but when he’s challenged to face his own insecurities he changes for the better and actually becomes the leader the other toys needed him to be. It’s rare for kids films to have unlikeable protagonists that dynamically change to that extent.
I have watched this movie only God knows how many times and not once have I ever noticed the freaking PLIARS clamped onto the TV’s missing dial at Sid’s house! That’s some attention to detail! They did not have to do that!
i used to think toy story animation wise held up until 2009's up and even 2 held up to 2018 standards..then 4 came and put 1 and 2 to shame..my god is 4 beautifully animated ..i don't get the hate for it either....does it need to exist no did it ruin 3 yes but its a 8/10 toy story pixar film which is not as good as the first 3 but its like a 8.6 out of 10 in terms of a normal animated film..still very good just not up to the standards this series set
Omagawd! This is fantastic! Such a Beautiful, thorough way to articulate the internal engine that’s driving the story! We need to do a collaboration sometime. Or at the very least grab a drink and argue about movies we love. I hope you do more!
Woah, I feel totally starstruck right now!! I'd love to do a collaboration and grab a drink with you. You're a huge inspiration for me. I've been unmotivated lately but now all I want is to finish my next Toy Story video! Thank you.
I would say 2 is also genius. Learning that love means putting someone else's happiness above your own, and that life is only truly enjoyed when shared others, are very hard ideas to convey in a family movie.
2:41 you could kind of consider him "democratically elected" in a way. While the toys don't have elections, it's not like Woody takes power by force. People just listen to what he says because they all respect him, which is sort of a casual type of democracy.
I like this video not only cuz i like the Pixar`s movie. I learning English (i`m from Ukraine) and thanks that you didn`t talk too fast i understand you and improve my listening. Thanks :^)

The first Toy Story is way darker than I remember lo, especially when you really dig into Woody's motivations. Great video.

I don't see why it would be dark, could you please explain this? I am intrigued!

When I got older, I began to see the scene where Buzz tries to fly in Sid's house as a suicide attempt.

You and me both. Watched it countless times since seeing it at the cinema in 1995 and only on this video did I realise that.
Great to see that you got your video approved finally! I loved your take on the movie, great stuff! I look forward to the next one.

this is just my opinion but if an existence of a sequel ruins the previous installment then it probably shouldn’t exist
