I love how you keep pushing the guitar/bass/stringed instruments as far as you can and beyond! It’s really inspirational as far as defying boundaries and getting creative. Awesome, keep it up!!!
Hey, it's Captain Credible! Noice. If the frets were taller somehow, it would make more tone on the opposite side when fretted. I love how this work with stereo. Coolest guitar experiment yet, imo.
I love how you guys just randomly switch between speaking english for three minutes and then a short exhange in swedish and Simon's english accent is impossible not to love
I never wanted an instrument more. Someone needs to build and market this thing!!!!! When you make a chord on one guitar, it comes out the reverse of the chord on the other! It's such an amazing concept! Some manufacturer really needs to get on this thing and bring it to market!
Yes, but you would have to remove the frets first. The fret on the opposite side of the string is not going give you the "inverse" of the other side. It will obstruct it ringing out to the proper note/frequency and give a crude "bi tone" Essentially, if you played this without the frets you would have to shape parts of your chords without some of the barre portions to get the chordal "inversions". It is doable but the fingering would be awkward to get the other side "correct" The other solution is to a) remove the frets and b) tune all the strings to a specific chord. This way you could slide up and down the neck and barre the chord and the opposite side would "voice" properly. As others have mentioned, you could employ a sustainer on either or both sides to solve the problem of striking the strings simultaneously while the other side is being played.
Would have been interesting to see some experimentation with tapping, as hammer ons and pull offs should work simultaneously on both sides. As cool as it was to watch you guys mess around with the capo and strumming both sides, that is nothing that can't be done with 2 distinct instruments. The effects from hammer ons and pull offs would be wholly unique to this...thing. Same for using a slide, which was cool to see. If there was some way to solve the ridiculous intonation issues this thing might even sound good!
I just love the fact that you have friends who are just as "mad" as you are! MAD as in the scientist gone mad sense :) Happy and Prosperous New Year,! and BTW... 9:22 I think you built yourself an actual physical ring modulator
Riktigt cool idé! Sen runt 12min in i videon så om man hade kunnat höra hur en tripp låter så hade det låtit som det ni spela. Tycker ni borde släppa låten på Spotify eller någon annan plattform. Peace
Glenn Branca would be proud! If you noticed some people in this comment section throwing the name around, you could look some of his work up on RUclips, specifically what he called the Harmonics Guitar. What Simon built sounds pretty close, and I love how creativity leads people to similar conclusions!
Now what if you planed down the back of an instrument and glued in another fretboard and installed a bridge on the back with pups to make a double sided guitar (bitar?). Maybe an sg would be perfect because its symetrical. Also try tapping on your duotar!
If you put a hole in the neck to thread the strings through you could make the ends of the guitar face opposite ways so two regular handed players could play holding the guitars at the same time. It would be like dancing a duet with the stage being the same set of strings...
Id love to hear how harmonics sound on that. Also, i think you could absolutely master tapping on this and it would sound out of thos world. Try picking a fret, any one you want and play your ring finger on it. Then using your first finger, hammer on and pull off anything to your left to get the left guitar , and with the middle finger of your picking hand just tap like normal to get anything to the right side. You could alternate and noodle around and your ring finger could act as the capo like you guys did here. Just a friendly suggestion I'd bet you could get really good at stuff like that real fast I'm just imagining if Eddie van Halen had one of these what sounds he could make lol
My ears are bleeding now...Worth it!! So beautiful those wooden synths... Does the captain do midi in wood, I have one idea for my finger drumming needs?
Yes, as early as the early 1980s. I believe he used some of these in his Symphony #2 and possibly other symphonies. He built simple homebrew/from scratch versions of these types of guitars as well as those made from cheap and conventional guitars. He sold a couple of these last decade on eBay. Check out Hans Reichel too. These ideas go all the way back to the ancient Greeks and the monochord and the Tromba Marina too.
Big Reichel fan! Death of the Rare Bird Ymir is an all-time favorite. I've been meaning to get my hands on a Daxophone for a while! Also, did Simon stealth edit a Branca shoutout into the beginning overnight? Big ups.
What if there was a 12 string guitar that had a lefty flip on the top 6 strings and a regular tuning on the bottom four so the high E's would meet in the middle and two people could play at the same time Just a thought
This is like Darth maul's lightsaber but with gutiars

It's like if there were two handles/hilt either end and the sabre blade in the middle
Hey, i'm just here to inform you that, your child have a dream.
No Michael Angelo batio's guitar is Maul's lightsaber. This looks more like anime "Soul eater not"
i didnt know dio played smite

Cat dog guitarrr! 😮
Oh that brings me back 🥳🥳
cat dog? shoulda been a Bass/Guitar ..Guitar
@@HerbaceousM8 like the cartoon mate
Fokin great mate
Buyer: So, is this double guitar of yours left or right handed?
Magpie: Yes
Dont need a "lefti"
If you lay on the floor in two directions you could jam together, too ;D
12:47 when the edibles kick in.

2:50 Seppuku for avant-garde musicians.

I have to say that I've only seen Glenn Branca doing noise with his double body guitar. This seems to explore other possibilities.
This is why I keep coming back to this channel.
but can it still play a minor pentatonic? 🤔🤔
With that much neck you could even play a major one!
Pink Floyd would have been all over this guitar like the world was ending the next day.
Prog Rock would have changed for ever.
It started out crazy.
It ended up being insane!
I love it.
I want Simon to make a video game where the music is made with the “instruments” he made
That would sound like Hylics, so yeah.
You could also put a movable bridge on the neck and turn it into something similar to a koto that can be played on both sides.
that's a real Glenn Branca style guitar!
Put a pencil under the strings and it becomes like a koto. Adrian Belew did this on a normal guitar and it sounded great!
Otherwise known as the Glenn Branca Special.
I saw Solmania (Japanese noise dude) play a guitar like this in like 1996, too. Great minds mutilate guitars alike!
Sustainer on one side fed by the signal from the other side. I see harmonic weirdness.
I love how you guys just randomly switch between speaking english for three minutes and then a short exhange in swedish and Simon's english accent is impossible not to love

At the beginning of the video, I thought: "This is the dumbest idea ever..." By the end of the video, I thought: "That was pretty cool".
Man that was sum 2020 pinkfloyd remake

You should send this one to Rob Scallon, I'm sure he'll figure out how to make a great song with that.
YES
last 5 minutes sounds so thom yorkish to me, so good !
Perfect for a duo if one is left handed and the other one is right handed
At 1:45 that “electric chord organ” to the right... is there a full video on that? I recently found one at a thrift shop for like $20.
"your intuition is on point!". 🤣
I just love the fact that you have friends who are just as "mad" as you are!
MAD as in the scientist gone mad sense :)
Happy and Prosperous New Year,!
and BTW...
9:22 I think you built yourself an actual physical ring modulator
The thing you played right after putting on the Capo sounded like something from Silent Hill and I am HERE for it.
hes actually contacting the mothership with those sounds
Now all you need is a genetically mutated humanoid to play the damn thing.

Have you played (or heard the soundtrack of) the game Machinarium? Some sounds reminded me of it. Thomas Dvorak is a brilliant musician and composer
anyone know what song was playing in the background at 4:19?
easily the best video ive seen all year
Silas Sucks wait a second...
So far
Try to make a bass with a neck pickup.
And i mean, a NECK PICKUP.
A neck made of pickups.
As much pickups as a neck needs.
Maybe more, i don't know.
i love this channel so much since you can make some crazy ass dr seuss lookin instrument and then have it play like techno music
I don't have any electric gutair & you destorying a good looking guitar
Get some elastic bands and an old tissue box.

Any way to attach it to a piano?
If you want both guitars to play in tune you should cut it by the 12th fret (the one with the 2 dots)
Dude, your videos will never get boring. Ffs how can you still think of new crazy shit
Open tuning is the only way to go with this
“Hi we’re Miso Soup. Thanks for coming to our noise show at Brian’s House.”
think you drive both ides if you use fingertapping set it in an open chord and using a slide mght five some nice effects too
Dude, 11mins in was amazing! Seriously, awesome song. I want one of those glitch beat wooden boxes!

0:35 That's why you should play 🅱️🍑
That's enough. I'm calling the police 🚨
Man I hate being a left handed guitarist
Can i have the Guitar audip pls
Doing harmonics on that must be VERY strange indeed
very cool you've used the truss rod to bind them together, man. Haven't check the other one, did that channel do it too?
My ears are bleeding now...Worth it!! So beautiful those wooden synths... Does the captain do midi in wood, I have one idea for my finger drumming needs?
He lives close to you! So ask him on instagram 😁
Simon The Magpie oh shit, is he Norwegian?
This is some Godspeed you black emperor shid
So, it's GUITIUG?
Omg what an innovative piece of artwork.
Now Siamese twin can play guitar together.
A sneak peak into IKEA’s think tank
It’s a Happy New Year Magpie Video = YES 🤘🙏👍
Cornered the ambidextrous market.
you gotta rig it up like a steel guitar and run the pedals through the whammy bar
this made me want to build one of these
I was pretty enticed by the music... good job! :p
And when are you gonna mass produce this?
Didn't Glenn Branca play live with guitars like this?
Yes, as early as the early 1980s. I believe he used some of these in his Symphony #2 and possibly other symphonies. Try raising the strings at the middle frets, so it's like a Japanese koto.kaki king does this with open rubbings.
Open tunings
Luv ya my creative bro
get a left and right handed guitarist to play this guitar at the same time with a capo
absolute mad lads
So how do i play 0-3-5 ?
Double-neck guitars are out. It's all about double-guitar necks now.
Is the all the sounds project still going on? I just wanna see how far its gotten
U have no clue how intense and awesom that music segment was to watch and hear while stoned
Should you block the trem of one guitar?
Where i'm confused is how the fuck do you even tune that thing. Maybe i skipped that part
Imagine a Stretch Weaver connected to me smashing two like buttons simultaneously. Bra jobbat killar!
How would you tune it?
Instead of ruining the two fretboards you should have just made a fretboard for that purpose
awesome video . much respect to you guys ^^
Was waiting for you two to meet. Make us a new planet.
What did u use for the stringish sounds?
This is cursed
I think you are headed for making the first actual recording of air guitar, maybe a theramin or strategically placed mics? 😁
I have one question how did you tune that like seriously
EADGBE ?
wait...
Where are the tuners?!!
@@valvenator on the other side!
It still makes no sense 😂
@@tyrell_h11 if you play open chords or on the 12th fret its EADGBE
This is awesome. Way to mess with sounds!
What if there was a 12 string guitar that had a lefty flip on the top 6 strings and a regular tuning on the bottom four so the high E's would meet in the middle and two people could play at the same time
Just a thought
Thats an awesome idea!
it's 7:30 AM, and I just witnessed this kind of sorcery.
Wait thats illegal
sounds like you are making a New XIU XIU song at parts
What's the scale length?
This is such a great idea! Imagine 4 bass guitars Criss crossed like this!
I wanna see one of the many youtube guitarists on this thing
Somewhere out there Michael Angelo Batio cries....
Håkan Carlsson He goes for more necks in 1 body. This is the inverse
Rashid Saif exactly!
There's 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back..
