    Can you do a tutorial on the solar panel petal, cause I really want that for my keyboard

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 4 года назад +2

      That sounds like a horrible idea. The problem is that the solar panel emits current, and you'd be forcing that current through the instrument, and i don't necessarily expect keyboards to be built nearly as electrically robustly as guitar pedals he has tried - chances are it goes right into a mixed signal processor, and all the extra current gets burned off on the tiniest of ESD diodes inside, not made to handle actual current at all, ouch. May i suggest an LDR (= light dependent resistor aka photoresistor) and then see how it behaves, and decide what to do about it, whether you need more of them in some kind of serial/parallel arrangement or whether you need a divider. If you're not too unlucky, the instrument documentation says something about the expression input in the spec section.

    You should put the solar panel expression pedal under a slow moving fan. I've seen similar things done with a photoresistor and a DC motor. You could make all kinds of weird shapes and patterns in the fan blades and use a pot to regulate the fan speed.

  • @The-SaltiestPretzel
    @The-SaltiestPretzel 4 года назад

    Sometimes the coolest stuff comes from the weirdest ideas. The magnet pick made a pretty cool sound, and makes me want to rip my poor bass apart to put like a whammy bar sort of thing but with a magnet being moved closer or farther from the strings, or maybe even running current the opposite direction on a pickup to manipulate the strings. Saw a lot of stuff that could be applied to a hurdy gurdy too, like the fidget spinner. Almost got a Misirlou thing going there!

    Another thing I used to do is put an output from the neck pickup and an input in series with the bridge pickup on my guitar. That allows you to do effects only on the neck pickup and then send it back through the clean bridge pickup. Probably the other way around would be a good idea as well.

    that solar panel pedal gave me an idea! a solar panel synth pad: different parts of the solar panel represent a sound or effect, and when light hits it, it's muted, and vice versa. so for example you could play it like a piano, but not even having to touch it! or maybe it could act as a theremin of sorts. the main caveats i think would be the direction of the light (fixable by using a lamp directly above) and i'm not sure if the power from the solar panel would be enough to run it...

    I was obsessed with inventing new picks, way back when. I did one that was a stack of two thin picks, separated by a small spacer; it's now an actual product that SG featured in one of his gimmicky guitar gadget videos (although I had nothing to do with making the commercial product).
    My favorite was using a US quarter, a coin with ridged edges, that I would hold sideways and use to more or less saw the strings, making what I thought was a little like a roughly bowed violin attack. It sounded so good that I took it out on a gig, where in my enthusiasm I proceeded to saw through several of my strings! Oh well, better luck next time...
