    I'm a mix of Chinese and Indian. I used to hear adults and kids talked about me behind my back. Hearing them whispering among each other, wondering what 'race' or where I'm 'originated' from hurts so much.
    But now I'm 28 and proud I'm a mix. It does not hurt me anymore, instead I confront them sometimes. Being mix doesn't make me worthless or less loved. Love the Intro Susan 😍 I can totally relate. Also love your videos.

    As a biracial Korean myself, I'm actually really glad that you addressed Somi's background/upbringing in the beginning
    I now live in the US but I still remember how hard it was for me growing up in South Korea and being the only "foreigner" kid even though I always felt connected to my Korean identity (this wasn't even a super long time ago btw lol I'm currently 20 years old).. even now when I go back during the summers to re-visit, I still see a lot of that going on and unfortunately not as much rapid change as I would hope..
    It feels even worse bc I was only raised by my Korean family since birth so whenever people referred to me as the "foreigner kid" it felt weird bc I had never felt connected to my non-Korean side before and now it was all that people were seeing and referring to me as
    I also started listening to Somi & following her progress bc I related 100% when she talked about her struggles, how alienating it was to be considered an outsider in such a homogeneous society (even though Korea is literally *our* country too), and right down to how she even said she considered plastic surgery to look more Korean..
    People still look at me like I have 10 heads or will treat me differently (both in positive & negative ways) when I'm in Seoul so the desire to physically blend in is always there..even now I still find myself over-compensating to be accepted by others...
    However, I do think being from mixed backgrounds is great and I will always be proud of both my backgrounds :)

    Totally agree it's such a cultural thing to have to look a certain way to be valued. I grew up with my dad picking on a lot of my physical features that I can't change, it took years for me to really build my confidence and figure out my worth. I hope we can all create a better culture where little girls don't have to feel unconfident about themselves just bc of appearance

    23:23 I was about to say this. Yes, looking your best and presenting the best of yourself can be a cultural thing but I think it's also her profession. If she's an idol in korean music, maaaannnnn the pressure is real there. The public doesn't forgive a single blemish or zit. I've seen so much hate given to these people for little things like that and I'm like "Chill!!!" They're kids and they're still going through puberty. My goodness! And their whole dieting and weight control. That's a whole other subject gah.

      fr ! these beautiful kids literally got scolded for having normal breakouts. it seems like those people forgot that most of these idols are kids and when i say kids, they are 15/16 years old that are in the middle of their puberty period. during that time, it’s normal to get breakouts because that’s when ur hormones go all hell wire. it upsets me that people are expecting these kids to have perfect skin.

    As a woman that grew up mixed race I was told I had been adopted I was told I couldn’t come into a friends house or a boy could not date me. On top of that I had a very difficult childhood ( foster care and back and fourth with my mother) I always looked at magazines and television and I only saw blonds with light skin as beautiful and what was accepted.
    I am who I am in spite of where I came from. I have been blessed to be in a profession ( I am a holistic master esthetician) where I can help so many people of every color and age gain back their confidence and feel they matter! I think it is one of the reasons I don’t love foundations, not only do I feel they age and create issues with our skin ( my beliefs is they are the number one cause of acne and aging besides the sun)but they tell women with color to cover up. They tell ALL women to cover up!Why is REAL SKIN not beautiful and not alright !
    I wear no foundation or concealer on my skin in my videos and I believe you can have fabulous skin at any age. I am 54.
    Just my loving opinion.
    I love you touched on something very real and sensitive at the beginning and I hope all the men and women out there know they are perfection, and beautiful and amazing! Regardless of the color of their skin or where they come from.

      You see blondes, brunettes, red heads, etc and all hair and skin tones in magazines and television. I really do not see only one hair colour or skin praised. That just isn't true and I think is a stereotype that is really over used. Great job embracing yourself though! That is the only way to be. Confident and appreciating who you are! Its not about perfection.

    I AM SOOOO HAPPY TO SEE THIS!! Somi is such an amazing person, her personality is everything. She’s so cute and bubbly, yet mature at the same time. Her personality kind of reminds me of JISOOTURTLERABBITKIM in some ways!
    She’s under TheBlackLabel, which is a sub-company of YG Entertainment (known as the devil of companies, besides Pledis, no one can be worse than Pledis). She’s been through A LOT, and at such a young age too! She was on the survival show Sixteen with TWICE, and was the last member eliminated. She was on produce 101, and made it through the whole show, ranking in first place in the end! She debuted with I.O.I in 2016 with the song “Dream Girls” (I was such a stan, I love the girls so much, I still listen to their songs and keep up with the members in their new chapters. Fun fact: I have the same birthday as Chaeyeon, I’m very proud of that, haha.) Unfortunately, in 2017, I.O.I had to disband because they were meant to be a project group. It was so sad, we didn’t even have a fandom name. Luckily, the members are still in contact! On August 20, 2018, Somi left JYP because she wasn’t given any activities, she was in A show, but that’s it. It’s horrible, considering how popular she was. If she had waiting 1 more year, she would’ve been in ITZY (a popular girl group that debuted in 2019 under JYP Entertainment, TWICE’S little sister group). In 2019, Somi debuted as a soloist under TheBlackLabel (mentioned earlier) with her hit song birthday. Since then, she has only had one comeback. It was in 2020, titled “What you Waiting for”. She actually co-wrote the song! I’m expecting a very bright future for her, she’s been through all of this, and she’s only 19! Her birthday was March 9th (she was born 2001).
    And yes, I do stan her. A lot.... it’s a problem... I hope this video gets people to look at her music!!
    (let me know if you got that SKZ pun :D)

    When removing fake lashes, I personally like to dip a cotton swab in makeup remover and tap it on the lash line to soften the glue. It doesn't ruin the lashes but is more gentle on your skin.

    It depends on what oil cleanser. For instance i massage in my lipid balance cleanser from m8 and emulsify it with water and it becomes milky very quick and i make sure my clean is clean afterwards. Great one, even good for acne prone skin!

    First I love your nails . Second I have a question.
    In morning, if I don’t have any makeup or sunscreen, may I just use a oil based emulsifying cleanser and then skip foaming cleanser ? I most of the time just use the foaming cleanser and then use my 5% glycolic AHA toner . I love the dermalogica oil cleanser.
    I know it’s fragranced but I never face issues with fragrance, I can get away with perfumed cosmetics in my face and I don’t face any redness, sensitivity or irritation. I love fragrance in my skincare.
    But I can’t use products with dimthicone or coconut or olive oil in them , they immediately cause-breakout , even physical sunscreens cause breakouts.
    And would like to know about products and ingredients that can heal concave or pitted scars to a little extent, as I can’t travel and most doctors in my area are not so trustworthy ( one suggested glycolic acid based product and when I asked said sunscreen isn’t that important) . I live the Tony moly snail ferment cream and Klairs hydrating and vitamin C serum.
    I can see some reduction in the depth of pits but what if I wish to accelerate the process?
    I always eat and drink( 3 to 4 liters of water)healthy ( organic)and take supplements ( vitamin C, glutathione, zinc, cod liver oil, chia seed, and a multivitamin). I never touch any packed food or any junk food or any soda or alcohol. Nothing too oily, or too sweet or salty . I gave smoking addiction though, so I try to make sure everything else is as healthy as possible. And sleep for 8 hours .
    I am in my late twenties, I have hair like fine lines around my eyes , only noticeable when my concealer creases and one or two expression line on my forehead and I don’t get acne anymore. My only concern is pitted scars.
    I used to have completely flawless picture perfect airbrushed skin naturally ( my mum is sixty she looks thirty and my grandma was over 80 and used to look like sixty). After I became a makeup artist I wanted to have acne and bad dark circles, so that I can cover them , I knowingly used to sleep with makeup and do harmful things to my face . And I was also bullied for not only being mixed but for having that perfect glass skin without a spot or pore .
    Now I regret my young age mistakes.

    What you said about growing up mixed is so true! I'm half Chinese and half white, but my parents are divorced and i was raised exclusively by my asian family. But when i was in highschool, it was almost as if the other kids wouldn't allow me to accept my asian heritage - they'd say I was half white and in America therefore was essentially just white, or say that I was whiter than the actual white kids in my school. It definitely was a challenge to grow up with but i am very proud of my heritage

    • @blue3374
      @blue3374 3 года назад

      Similar situation for me too! I was raised only by my Asian family but I lived in Asia and people would not let me identify myself as Asian lmao... as if they have the right to tell *us* how we should identify ourselves

    Honestly, i never knew mixed kids would get much hates. And im also one myself. I thought its a unique fact to have. And i think they have a unique look which makes them super beautiful. Totally not referring to myself because im ew. But maybe its just me who lovesss everything unique. Or because my mom always said to embrace yourself no matter what. And that mixed kids are really pretty.

  • @lfaz4296

    Do you actually always need to use water based cleanser after oil cleansing? Dry skin can be different. My mom - who has dry skin - said even washing her face with water makes her skin feel tight. She uses milk cleanser, then she wipes off the cleanser with cotton pad and washes her face. And then she uses toner with cotton pad like Somi did. But my mother never wear such heavy makeup so she might not need oil cleanser.
    I feel oil cleansing + water based cleanser everyday can be too much for some people..

    • @blxcklab
      @blxcklab 3 года назад +2

      Oil and water based cleansing are actually good for your skin coz some cleansers have alcohol..which removes the ph balance if the skin

    • @lfaz4296
      @lfaz4296 3 года назад +1

      @@blxcklab Nowadays there's a lot of cleansers with pH about 5.5. Even then there's pH balancing toners you can use. I don't get how that is relevant to my argument though...

    • @debs_229
      @debs_229 3 года назад +1

      I kinda agree with this. My skin is dry, and if I use cleansing oil alone, I feel that my skin is still comfortable. I usually still double cleanse with a super gentle pH cleanser but that would dry out my skin a little and I have to put on skincare immediately otherwise my skin gets tight. I think it depends on the cleansing oil you use too. The one I use is very light and doesn't leave much of a residue after using it. My toner removes any leftovers so it's not that bad I think.
