My husband and I were at a Guardians game when we visited Cleveland for our anniversary last year. They have a beautiful ballpark! Yes, I remember them as the Indians as well.
3:07 I love retail history and ceiling fans, so when they’re together it makes me happy, but what doesn’t is that it’s on for no reason and why is there still power in there? 8:53 there’s actually two fans on!?
My memories of The Ground Round ended in the early 80's when they closed the one locally. The restaurant had a different kind of vibe back then. They used to show silent comedy shorts, such as the Keystone Cops and Harold Lloyd, and it was the first restaurant I remember where they encouraged you to throw peanut shells on the floor. Good food back then, too. It's weird to think of them now as just another average chain.
I loved Ground Round! It's strange to see the color of the building with blue 💙. The ones here in Ohio in Mentor and Willowick and Euclid had green signage! The kids paid what they weighed! Miss the popcorn and peanuts too! Great food back in the day and the kids had sundaes in a baseball cap too!!!
Definitely looks like the old Bennigan's! Haven't heard the name Ground Round for ages! We had plenty of them here in the mid-west! Always thought they were pretty OK. They all closed in the 80's or early 90's if I remember correctly.
I was born & raised in Elyria. I live in a town called Grafton now but work in Elyria. Compared to what it was at one time, it’s a ghost town. The town was jumping back in the day esp on a Friday or Saturday .
Thirty years ago, I remember there used to be several Ground Round Restaurants in the Columbus, Ohio area. All of the restaurants were razed and gone years after they closed.
I forgot about ground round. I can hear my mom‘s voice saying we are going there for dinner. Not that particular restaurant, they had worn in central PA back in the 70s or 80s. Used to be a big deal back then. I’m trying to remember in my head where it was located in my town. Maybe one of these days it will come to me. But thank you for the memory, because I forgot all about this restaurant.
This brought back some memories for me. I grew up in Bay Shore, New York, not that far from Ground Round restaurant. It closed many years ago, was demolished, and a TD Bank was built in its spot. To be honest, I never knew that the Ground Round was a restaurant chain.
Awesome video as always. Pretty cool little time capsule that Ground Round is. Agree with you on the logo & name stuff too. Keep the great videos coming!
Good video! I haven't seen a closed up Ground Round in years! We used ot have some here in NY. That other place you mentioned. We had a Brennegines here in NY! Maybe that's it! Always like your videos!
Oh MG I remember going to this area when turning around during a family trip and we ate at this place and it was like the last year it was open and everything else was just shutting down and it looked pretty rough food was good though by the way I love your videos and if you have the time check out Niles Warren and Cleveland I know that's really weird but those are like my favorite places to see weird abandoned things I know Warren really well I explored them myself particularly old buildings factories and such
Our area in particular is a gold mine buildings that were built during the factory uprising or when America was actually making stuff type stuff back in the olden days in this buildings are still like time capsules but like pretty Rusty time capsules but the only thing is I know you don't prefer to trespass into the buildings
I live in Fargo, N.D. but spent 20 years living in Elyria as recently as 2019. The Midway Mall area may be the absolute deadest retail area in the entire country! There were more abandoned buildings than there were occupied when I left nearly 5 years ago.
That MacDonalds isn't particularly old. It used to be a MacDonalds combined with a BP gas station (making it the 1st ever MacDonalds ever that sold beer), then they tore that down and built a full sized MacDonalds, and I'd guess that one is less than 20 years old.
Hardly anything works in Elyria or Lorain. Even the fast food is lower quality then if you just go 5miles east or west. The one exception is Texas Road House, always good food and service.
Yeah, I fully agree that the name change of the Indians to the Guardians was dumb. Then after that, the Redskins then became the Commanders, and over on the music side of things, the Dixie Chicks becoming just The Chicks and Lady Antebellum becoming just Lady A. I swear, people here in the 2020s have become such snowflakes and will find any little thing to complain about… Anyways, talk about a blast to the past with seeing this closed Ground Round! Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t really think they’re around anymore.
Wallie the franchisee owed rent and was locked out in 2013 i got this off flickr read for yourself when u get the chance and just look up ground round Elyria ohio
Wallie as a life long Cleveland fan when it comes to baseball. I wish that they would have just kept the name Indians, but you have to see why they relented and changed the name. It's kinda hard to keep supporting a logo that's a giant red faced Indian. It all came down to money and the team was going to loss sponsorship. Now I also believe that if one team cant have native American logos and team names then knowbody should. I live in Va and I like to use this as an example the college of William and Mary logo was the tribe with 2 little feathers on the logo. They had approval from the local tribes to do that. The NCAA ruled they needed to change it, but NCAA let's Florida state run around and do all the stuff they do and they have approval from their l ok cal tribes. The main reason is money Florida state makes money and W&M does not.
A lot of closed stores in Elyria will keep you busy. Love your videos, Wallie.

I'm Indians all the way I still purposefully wear my Indians Jersey to Guardians games

With all the empty stores in elyria you could spend weeks here.😊
💯
the fan could be keeping the air moving to keep the mold out

Should have checked out the abandoned Holiday Inn across from there! Everything left behind.
We used to have a Ground Round in Mentor Ohio.

Even better question is why do they still have power on in that building

Bennigans was popular here in texas in the 80s and 90s but closed. Never heard of ground round except what you eat for burgers
Awesome video as always. Pretty cool little time capsule that Ground Round is. Agree with you on the logo & name stuff too. Keep the great videos coming!
You should check out the abandoned Ground Round in Hazelton, PA! Closed in 2009 and has been abandoned ever since.
I've been to the Perrysburg Ground Round. I love it. Ground Round was my go to place in the 80's and 90's. Awesome ❤
The ground round and benegins closed down in the Philly area at least 15 to 20 years ago now
Good video! I haven't seen a closed up Ground Round in years! We used ot have some here in NY. That other place you mentioned. We had a Brennegines here in NY! Maybe that's it! Always like your videos!
Wow 👌 awesome video
This place reminds me of the restaurant from “waiting…”
Near old hometown of Wellington & Oberlin. You sure do get around, Wallie!
Bennigan's and Ground Round I miss the both of them restaurant . Loved them both .
I've never been to either. Haha I need to change that.
@@WallieB26there’s an open Ground Round in Toledo and an open Bennigan’s in Steubenville. I’ve been to both and the food was pretty good.

Used to have a ground round i Wexford pa. If my memory serves me correctly, kids paid what they weighed to eat. They closed long ago.
5:28 - Actually, that wind blows.
Lol!
As always great video. 👍
Back in the 80s that mall area was mostly land. Had none of those restaurants. The mall of course & staples used to be a stop n shop.
That fan spinning looks creepy
There's an abandoned days inn hotel out there in Elyria
Cool video
My hometown is a ghost town. Used to have multiple restaurants and things to do.
LOL. I kommented about this place yesterday
Hardly anything works in Elyria or Lorain. Even the fast food is lower quality then if you just go 5miles east or west. The one exception is Texas Road House, always good food and service.
The fan isn't spinning, Chuck Norris is rotating the earth.

There is a abandoned front porch in Monterey tn
I always thought that McDonald's signs were 75-feet tall. 🤔
Wow 2015 2016 I was between sophomore and junior in high school lol
I think the power is still on because vandals or scrappers will be scared away when they see that the power is still on. Just my guess though.
How did this restaurant close?
Wow, an old Cleveland Indian’s before they change the stupid name yeah looks like a lot a banded places. No food
