This song brings a tear to my eye but gives me peace. Divorce and death have taken all love from me but the Grateful Dead give me a peaceful, calm joy that will carry me like a breeze in my sails to the next port.
Conor Walsh you laid it down so wonderfully. Today, I barely heard this song and I’ve been playing all day. Is like the sister of Peggy o and so many roads. Take care.
I can relate to your experience. thank you for your words. the dead are still and will continue to be an important strand in what makes me tick and keeps me going! jerry is missed for sure, im grateful for the archives which i tap each day.
Jerry needed a little time to get going here! Hard to watch his hands shaking like that. But his finger-picking sounds great and their uptempo take on this tune surprised and delighted me! Could not ask for more, thanks so much for posting this!
Love this song. Was never a huge Dead guy, until I caught them at the Palace in Michigan in '95. This song and "Foolish Heart" really stuck with me, as well as the amazing vibe at the show. Needless to say, a big fan, now.
And who says 90' Dead was dead? They kept it real to the very end. I especially love Vince's high pitch background vocals and his harmonies within the band as a whole. The 90's may have been rocky but when they clicked look out. Smoking craters everywhere. Beautiful, classic Grateful Dead.
Truer words. I was backstage behind Bill's drum kit and that was one of the best Grateful Dead shows ever. Those boys loved Chapel Hill and Durham...special, special memories.
takes me right back to my 1920's....in the 70's....w.c. fields movies, charlie chaplin....wait- i was a teenager then...later i walked on the lazy river road at the various rainbows in florida....seminole square.... they called for me, took a taxi ride...thank you Jerry! thank you mr. hunter
This is one of my very topmost favorite GD songs of all time; I was really looking forward to hearing an album version of it. "Call for me, & I will be there / For the price of a taxi ride." 27 yrs on, and I STILL haven't gotten over it... Thank you so much for sharing this here.
Some kind of sweet song this; that includes the slide playin, fella below. It is what Jerry wanted it to be. It's how the Dead rolled, and I loved them.
It fits perfectly with the country vibe and Jerry's finger picking. Classic filthy Weir slide (think 12-6-92 Weir tone) is well paired. Tremendous song!
Wow that’s far out cause I was on tour sellin fungus. And was walking around that area. Crazy. If it was me that sold them to ya glad I could brighten up your day and yes it was a good show. They broke out Lucy in the sky with diamonds that night. Was blown away. Miss them good ol days
wow...that A7 chord really colors it nicely...like a victorian landscape painting...perhaps a nocturnal moment between sleep and waking?...better write out those words fast, Hunter...bright blue boxcars clattering through the consciousness... nice, Jerry, give a slow, ragtime lilt to it..great song
i will admit the newer songs i struggled with, especially with wave to the wind (which went on to become a favorite) but then later was quite taken by them.
I was there for those shows in Chapel Hill with an ALL ACESS pass courtesy of my friend Billy Grillo. NO BULLSHIT! anyone who inows the Grateful Dead knows what NO BULLSHIT! means in reference to Bill Grillo.
Silly comment about Bobby 'trashing' this song with his slide. Had Jerry (you know, the guy who wrote it?) felt it didn't belong, he would have told him to play it differently. Bobby's slide actually fits very well in this song. Too bad ya don't get it, rook.
I agree, I like the slide too, but I saw something I hadn't noticed before, and I might be wrong as it's happened once or twice before ;) but near the start of the tune it does kinda look like Garcia shoots a dirty look over in Bobs direction..check it out...maybe nothing. There's a similar slide used on SOTM in Boston from 94, which I also really like and can't say I've heard it on that song anywhere else..anyways be well dude!! Sorry for the long reply to an old comment
Not sure that look is directed at Bob, but who knows? Again, Bob played slide EVERY time the GD played this song. I think if Jerry had a problem with it, he'd have nipped it in the bud around 92. lol
I personally think bobs slide playing is just sloppy. Tons of extra noise when hes not actually hitting notes cuz he doesnt mute properly. I think the slide is a great addition, but Bob is just a sloppy slide player. Hope that makes sense. cheers :)
I think the look was classic dead visual banter. Weir clearly struck avwring note. Watching movies, you'll see Weir consistently rolling his eyes and shaking his head. Love to love the love that loves to love!
Way down upon Sycamore Slough White man sings the blues Selling roses of paper mache And flecks of starlight dew Swiped a bunch and threw them your way Where hazy moonlight glows Way down, down along lazy river road Way down upon Shadowfall Ward End of the avenue Run, hide, seek in your own backyard Mama's backyard won't do All night long I sing love's sweet songs Down where the water flows Way down, down along lazy river road Moonlight wanes as hound dogs bay Never quite catch the tune Stars fall down in buckets like rain There ain't no standin' room Bright blue boxcars train by train Clatter while dreams unfold Way down, down along lazy river road Way down upon Seminole Square Belly of the river tide Call for me and I will be there For the price of a taxi ride Nighttime double clutches into the day Like a truck down shifting it's load Way down, down along lazy river road Moonlight wanes as hound dogs bay Never quite catch the tune Stars fall down in buckets like rain There ain't no standin' room Bright blue boxcars train by train Clatter while dreams unfold Way down, down along lazy river road Thread the needle right through the eye The thread that runs so true All the others I let pass by I only wanted you Never cared much for careless love Oh, how your bright eyes glow Way down, down along lazy river road Way down, down along lazy river road Way down, down along lazy river road
Man bobby really trashed this Ive had this show first cassette then cd great later show. Again just wish bobby didnt fah kit up so much it would be one of the best if not for his clumsy slide mashing esp in the first half of song during verse rhythm while jerry sings.
Forgot about this clunker. Well, its ok. I was happier to have to be in bathroom for Samba or Liberty than this one. Nice imagery but tune never goes anywhere.

Amen to THAT bro! Be seein' ya!
Walking alongside you, bud. Let's nail a retread to our feet and pray for better weather✌🙏 it helps

Spring of 1993 was my favorite of post-Brent years.
Same. Spring tour was rough but the shows were smokin
one of jerrys best so laid back and peaceful
Jerry needed a little time to get going here! Hard to watch his hands shaking like that. But his finger-picking sounds great and their uptempo take on this tune surprised and delighted me! Could not ask for more, thanks so much for posting this!
So crisp and current
This is what America is.
Love this song. Was never a huge Dead guy, until I caught them at the Palace in Michigan in '95. This song and "Foolish Heart" really stuck with me, as well as the amazing vibe at the show. Needless to say, a big fan, now.
Erick Maks the dead music just found me a year ago.
I was there. Amen.
Arturo Siemon wow
Erick Maks being from Michigan I was there as well.
I'm so glad you got it !!

Up until 93 there’s lotsa good shows, pre H relapse. Eso w Bruce.
The song writing in the 90s was magic still. Vince told me 93 was his favorite year
This song is just so damn beautiful! I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These 2 nights should get the official release treatment. They are so clear and well played
Truer words. I was backstage behind Bill's drum kit and that was one of the best Grateful Dead shows ever. Those boys loved Chapel Hill and Durham...special, special memories.
really beautiful version, thanks for uploading!
My favorite version, thanks for sharing

This is such a special tune. It speaks of the wonder of life and love.
Wow thank you Jerry!
Such a beautifully well written tune.
Love Jerry's finger pickin and tone here, absolutely pure, no gimics, country, country....
Thanks for the love and music
jerry me always....a special place in my soul!!!!

It is what Jerry wanted it to be.
It's how the Dead rolled, and I loved them.
I love Bob's slide on this one. So raunchy. Great contrast. Song just wouldn't be the same without it.
jamjax yea it really makes this version great
It fits perfectly with the country vibe and Jerry's finger picking. Classic filthy Weir slide (think 12-6-92 Weir tone) is well paired. Tremendous song!
I noticed that too and totally agree with you, Bobby slid right in there for a signature sound
Such a sweet song. Oh Jerry.
I was there with all my Time Out buddies from Inman Park, UNC, Sewanee, and Knox Vegas! Almost most fun ever!
Iconic voice. Will be no other.
This was a really good show, even scored some shrooms outside the Carolina Inn.
What a coincidence: so did I. Walked by Gimgool Castle after the show and had a good chuckle at the weird Gothic vibe of the place. 😂
Wow that’s far out cause I was on tour sellin fungus. And was walking around that area. Crazy. If it was me that sold them to ya glad I could brighten up your day and yes it was a good show. They broke out Lucy in the sky with diamonds that night. Was blown away. Miss them good ol days
If it was you we went in the lobby bathroom of the Carolina inn and made the deal. Great show. Ate them under the goal post of Kenan stadium. Ha ha!
a 90's concert klassik that never made it to a record and so kool!!!!
great song WE MISS U JERRY
wow...that A7 chord really colors it nicely...like a victorian landscape painting...perhaps a nocturnal moment between sleep and waking?...better write out those words fast, Hunter...bright blue boxcars clattering through the consciousness... nice, Jerry, give a slow, ragtime lilt to it..great song
oreokookie B7?
josh maher I always played this in G - major...but if you play the song in A... then, yes, you would use a B7 chord at the end of the chorus part.
oreokookie this is hunters Americana at its best. Rip Jerry. Rip Hunter.
@@jerrysmiddlefinger930 right on...always reminded me of a stephen foster composition, I know hunter liked some of the old timey songs from that era.
Garcia- Hunter baby❤
i will admit the newer songs i struggled with, especially with wave to the wind (which went on to become a favorite) but then later was quite taken by them.
Like #667. The Devil ain't gonna get this one! What a classic.....
wow, this is great. never heard before
i took my son too see the gratetful dead 92 93 buckeye lake hurbon ohio they did this and my son mom i love u
bobby kills in on the slide, its what he does. contrasts jerry. it fits perfectly in this song.
Yes! I can't stand hearing people complain about Bobby's slide skills.
I was there for those shows in Chapel Hill with an ALL ACESS pass courtesy of my friend Billy Grillo.
NO BULLSHIT!
anyone who inows the Grateful Dead knows what NO BULLSHIT! means in reference to Bill Grillo.
" A thread that run so True, ALL the others I let pass by, I ONLY WANT ED YOU!" HEY TERRAPIN I MISS YA BOO... 😤😍😎

i love you Jerry!!!!
I was there....
Garcia's hands shook--makes you love him all the more.
Bending the chord, it’s done with intent.
Damn, I miss Jerry.
Like, does anybody look at Jerry's right hand? His chooed off finger which permits him to pick & strum at the same time? Sherrr.. didn't think so.
93 was really good year Jerry was healthy

Way down upon Sycamore Slough

There ain't no standin' room
Bright blue boxcars train by train
Clatter while dreams unfold
Way down, down along lazy river road
Way down upon Seminole Square
Belly of the river tide
Call for me and I will be there
For the price of a taxi ride
Nighttime double clutches into the day
Like a truck down shifting it's load
Way down, down along lazy river road
Moonlight wanes as hound dogs bay
Never quite catch the tune

Thread the needle right through the eye
The thread that runs so true
All the others I let pass by
I only wanted you
Never cared much for careless love

Willie Waycup come again, I think bobby made this version awesome
Wert der ferk?
Forgot about this clunker. Well, its ok. I was happier to have to be in bathroom for Samba or Liberty than this one. Nice imagery but tune never goes anywhere.
Either Weir purposefully sabotaged this beauty or he has no right playing slide.
both
