Kanye threw a listening party in NYC for 0$ so I was lucky enough to go with one of my buddies and because of that I have a very different appreciation for this album. We literally paid no money, they put our phones in locked cases and the album was beautiful.
I think it's undervalued of an album. There are some great songs and even though I'm not Christian, I feel the emotion in the album with tracks like Water and Selah. And as a whole it comes across to me as the album Ye made while he was at his happiest. Which makes me happy.
I've always felt it was the graduation of the modern era. A joyous celebration of overcoming hardships, I guess ironically before his life gets much harder. Plus they're both dragged down by 1 or 2 awful songs. (dahg, barry bonds and closed on sunday)

This album may not be his strongest but its definitely important as a cultural statement. For him to insert a family friendly, experimental gospel album into an otherwise very profane and explicit genre shows why Kanye west is an innovator. Where ever the culture is, he will run in the complete opposite direction and you have to respect that.

Ah yes, Kanye's most underrated piece of art. I love this album, helped me through a very difficult time in my life. It encouraged me to keep going when I lost someone very close to me.
As a Christian, I really liked this album since it dropped. To see my favorite artist be so open about his religious struggle and journey was really cool for me to see. I understand why some people don’t like it, but I don’t think it’s terrible as some people say. It definitely has its flaws, but I think it’s a really cool record.
I love this album so so much the only reason I hated it at first was I had learnt that Kanye scrapped another album Yandhi to make this one...I loved Yandhi more than anything. But Jesus Is King grew up on me ngl, now I feel like it's one of his best records.
I get how the general audience doesn’t like this album, but as a Christian, this album is amazing because there’s no artist Christian or not that has made a rap album like that. Very instrumentally nice, and the lyrics were great. Still, not for everyone, but looking at it through that scope, it’s a great album.

Not to mention the beat choices are so basic. Just my opinion though. I’m a huge Kendrick fan so that should tell you about what I look for in music.
It’s interesting because many people consider this Ye’s worst album but my Christian friend, who has always hated rap music, considers this his favorite album of all time. This album also got him into rap music as a whole and he now loves Kanye and other rappers.

I know people don’t like this album but I really do like the majority of it. Very underrated in my opinion and I think new Kanye fans are steered of from it because of the negative reviews surrounding it.
This album got me into Kanye. The whole roleout, the Merch, the vibes… it was one of his best eras. Heavily underrated and under appreciated album. The production is pretty great as well!
Although its his weakest album by a comfortable margin imo, I think it’s absolutely integral in the transition from Ye/KSG to Donda. Not to mention this era introduced a lot of ppl to the Sunday Service Choir which is a huge W in itself.

Video games are often patched and more recently movies are taking this approach too (Spider-Man: No Way Home and Cats are two big examples of films being updated in theaters to fix stuff.) If they attach a price tag and put it up for sale, it's fair game.

I’ve gone to 2 Sunday services myself and they were amazing. I also just love this album a lot, and it will have a special place in my heart forever. Hoping you guys do Donda Deluxe and not just the normal one, I’d love to see the reactions to Life Of The Party and everything else added.
This was the first album of Kanye’s I listened to. I’m religious, so it was out of curiosity more than anything else. I love it, more because I can feel the passion in Kanye. God Is is one of my favorites, for religious reasons in combination to hearing Kanye sing. I proceeded to fall down the rabbit hole, and now I’m a big fan of his music

I think this album really fits into his discography. He changes his aesthetic and vibe every album he releases. Id personally give the album a 6/10, but there are a few songs that really stick with me that I love. And by no means am I christian, but the holy atmosphere he sets really is a good vibe.
I love this album. I am an atheist, and a strong one at that. Gospel is its own artform and it is a very beautiful one. The lyrics and sounds of this album are literally heavenly. 9/10, would have wanted more songs for it to achieve a 10/10.
This album has really grown on me the past couple weeks. I believe it contains some of the most interesting instrumentation and melodies on any Kanye album, especially Jesus Is Lord and Use This Gospel.
I agree with a lot of these comments, personally this album speaks to me deeply, I feel like he speaks on battles that as a Christian I can relate to. But I can see how it may be difficult for you guys to connect with, but maybe that changes in the future ❤️
I'm not religious, but when you get past the theme of the album and focus on the music itself it really is beautiful. Sad to see people dismissive of it because they don't align with Ye's religious beliefs.

This album was the biggest grower for me in his discography. Went from thinking it was low effort money grab, to understanding the emotions and feelings behind it that give it depth.

I remember when this dropped. I was attending university in the campus apartments when one of my roommates was blasting this in the shower. It was a slow burn for me but it was a fun album. Hearing and seeing him be hyped about it on every song was something ill remember.
Seeing Closed On Sunday not being immediately shut down for the chick-fil-a line is refreshing bc the song sounds amazing and I love the switch up half way through
The reason I love the Donda album so much is that as he said it features only the best elements from Jesus is King, basically an upgrade. Really looking forward to seeing the reaction
I think Hands On was really really good. I love how he talks about the backlash from Christians. I myself am a Christian Rapper and receive backlash like that sometimes and hearing Ye talk about it was just so honest and refreshing
I think Hands On is one of his most underrated tracks of all time. Def aged pretty well even being on the bottom of his discog. Not the best Ye album, but one of my favorite eras.
It's by far his best and most beautiful album. Genuinely shocked to hear anyone think it's his weakest or not good. It's an all-time musical wonder, and thank God for Kanye West creating it.
Gave me chills first time listening, the IMAX experience even more so. Refreshing, as the world seemed to be falling apart when he released this, that there was a man at the top of the secular culture connecting back to the West's spiritual roots, in his own way. God and Christianity have always been apart of Kanye's work and for one album he gave it it's time and without shame or as an affect. As for the gospel, look at Kendrick's latest drop...Kanye always leads the culture. Kanye does Kanye, album rankings and critics can say whatever but in the end an artist, of his caliber, authentically expressed something important to his entire being.
Amen!! Was really hoping and praying for very well known celebrity who loves Jesus and is also not ashamed of being a follower of Christ and along came Kanye. And he was genuinely happy from his heart you could feel and see it when he made this album
I actually really enjoyed this album! I grew up in a Christian family, but I don’t consider myself super religious by any stretch of the imagination. I thought for what it was, it was super unique, had great sounds, and is one of the only Christian type music I can actually listen to. I find most church or religious music extremely corny for some reason, and this one didn’t feel corny at all.
This is the most slept on the album from Kanye without a doubt. Absolutely beautifully mixed, incredibly creative and just in general a short experience. I am anything but religious, but this album feels like white, like peace, I don't know its such a good album.
I encourage you to understand that not all of Worshiping God is all just straight gospel, the Lord has blessed us with gifts to glorify him. And there are plenty of ways to give glory to God through song.

Wow. For some reason all these years I couldn’t figure out why this album had so much hate. After watching this I realized some people just don’t like the sound of gospel music. Growing up in a church it’s a normal style of music I’m used to so I guess I have a more comfortable listening on this album
people don’t like it simply because the lyrical content is boring and doesn’t expand outside any boundaries - “but it doesn’t need to expand outside boundaries” - not necessarily wrong, but nothing about the album is interesting at all lyric wise. I can understand if you like the sound of the album but personally I think it’s bland and boring (especially compared to other gospel hip-hop projects ex. coloring book & acid rap)
Kanye’s is an artist that puts out music in which he feels reflects his current view on life. He doesn’t put out what he thinks will win Grammys or will get radio time. His art is a reflection of himself. It’s not for you to like or dislike.. it’s for him to express himself.
After Selah when the dad said he didn’t feel anything I was like WHAT?! Then he said he’s not religious, which told me everything I needed to know. Almost all Christians would feel something and resignate with the lyrics in the song

Let's get this straight, Kanye has not made a "bad" album. All of his works in his discovergraphy are at least good, and rise to being some of the best in genre. That being said, I do think JiK is probably his weakest album. That's not to say there aren't any highlights (Follow God is great, and "God Is" is legitimately beautiful). I think it's a solid album, but his other projects simply have much higher highs than this one. I do appreciate how he puts a greater focus into his faith on this album and doesn't necessarily aim to crowd please. It's not his best, but it's a very important album in defining his entire body of work. Sidenote: Cannot wait to see the reaction to Donda, which IMO was a great follow-up from JiK!
Donda 2 is pretty bad. Ye really should've worked on it longer instead of releasing it prematurely like he had something to prove. He's Kanye Fuckin' West, he has nothing to prove.

I straight up made my own mini album with my personal highlights and it's fantastic! Personal favs is 24, Pure Souls, Believe What I Say, Keep my Spirit Alive, Moon, and of course Come to Life

You can't just throw them on after come to life, its the perfect end, but playing them after the part 2s feels worse.
@@100yinyang you could make a watertight, impeccable 10/10 album out of Donda by removing a few tracks I think. Theres like 2 or 3 skips and few songs that wouldn’t make the cut if I was trimming the album to be 10/10 but there’s a lot of really good music laced in there. I liked a lot of the songs that got added with the deluxe too but the album sequencing was ruined completely and make it feel more like a compilation than an album.
I was sleeping on this album for so long for being a gospel one, but after giving it a try it is in my top 5 albums for sure. Best enlightening vocals and instrumentals.
love love love this album. I myself am a christian, and a lot of Kanyes bars are scripture based. So when I hear Kanye ( my favorite rapper ) easily and flawlessly incorporate it into his rhymes it got me hype. He speaks a lot about the struggles of holding on to faith in this social media driven world and life in general. Theres even a sample of a worship song we usually sing at bible study that had me weak bro like fr. So when people react to this album and don't vibe with it, i ain't even mad. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely for me. great reaction as always!

it’s definitely his worst album tho. i do listen to it fairly regularly (twice a week or so) even though i’m muslim. it’s still very enjoyable

This album was the biggest grower for me in his discography. Went from thinking it was low effort money grab, to understanding the emotions and feelings behind it that give it depth.

God Is is beautiful
Although it is his worst album, I still find this very enjoyable all the way through with some amazing highlights like Use This Gospel, God Is, and On God 🙌🏼
Those are my favorite songs on this album too, but it sucks Yandhi had better versions of on God & Use this Gospel

Chick-fil-A is a Christian owned fast food joint and is closed on Sundays due to religious reasons. The number 1 is reference to the menu item number 1, which is the chicken sandwich, the basic meal to get from there. The lemonade reference is cause that drink is a staple of Chick-fil-A
I remember when this dropped. I was attending university in the campus apartments when one of my roommates was blasting this in the shower. It was a slow burn for me but it was a fun album. Hearing and seeing him be hyped about it on every song was something ill remember.
Seeing Closed On Sunday not being immediately shut down for the chick-fil-a line is refreshing bc the song sounds amazing and I love the switch up half way through

Although this is definitely his worst, it’s not bad. I enjoy most of the songs on here, but I’m very excited for the Donda reaction!
The reason I love the Donda album so much is that as he said it features only the best elements from Jesus is King, basically an upgrade. Really looking forward to seeing the reaction
I think Hands On was really really good. I love how he talks about the backlash from Christians. I myself am a Christian Rapper and receive backlash like that sometimes and hearing Ye talk about it was just so honest and refreshing
I think Hands On is one of his most underrated tracks of all time. Def aged pretty well even being on the bottom of his discog. Not the best Ye album, but one of my favorite eras.

Gave me chills first time listening, the IMAX experience even more so. Refreshing, as the world seemed to be falling apart when he released this, that there was a man at the top of the secular culture connecting back to the West's spiritual roots, in his own way. God and Christianity have always been apart of Kanye's work and for one album he gave it it's time and without shame or as an affect.
As for the gospel, look at Kendrick's latest drop...Kanye always leads the culture.
Kanye does Kanye, album rankings and critics can say whatever but in the end an artist, of his caliber, authentically expressed something important to his entire being.
Amen!! Was really hoping and praying for very well known celebrity who loves Jesus and is also not ashamed of being a follower of Christ and along came Kanye. And he was genuinely happy from his heart you could feel and see it when he made this album

God Is is an amazing song
I actually really enjoyed this album! I grew up in a Christian family, but I don’t consider myself super religious by any stretch of the imagination. I thought for what it was, it was super unique, had great sounds, and is one of the only Christian type music I can actually listen to. I find most church or religious music extremely corny for some reason, and this one didn’t feel corny at all.
“God Is” is a top 10 Kanye song
This is the most slept on the album from Kanye without a doubt. Absolutely beautifully mixed, incredibly creative and just in general a short experience. I am anything but religious, but this album feels like white, like peace, I don't know its such a good album.
I encourage you to understand that not all of Worshiping God is all just straight gospel, the Lord has blessed us with gifts to glorify him. And there are plenty of ways to give glory to God through song.

Wow. For some reason all these years I couldn’t figure out why this album had so much hate. After watching this I realized some people just don’t like the sound of gospel music. Growing up in a church it’s a normal style of music I’m used to so I guess I have a more comfortable listening on this album
Donda did that religious angle much better imo
people don’t like it simply because the lyrical content is boring and doesn’t expand outside any boundaries - “but it doesn’t need to expand outside boundaries” - not necessarily wrong, but nothing about the album is interesting at all lyric wise.
I can understand if you like the sound of the album but personally I think it’s bland and boring (especially compared to other gospel hip-hop projects ex. coloring book & acid rap)

Kanye’s is an artist that puts out music in which he feels reflects his current view on life. He doesn’t put out what he thinks will win Grammys or will get radio time. His art is a reflection of himself. It’s not for you to like or dislike.. it’s for him to express himself.

Thank you for giving me an opportunity to give this album another listen because I've really come around on this one. I didn't like anything besides follow god and water on my first listen but I found myself liking nearly all of them this time. Great reaction as always, keep it up :)
One of my Fav Ye records
Let's get this straight, Kanye has not made a "bad" album. All of his works in his discovergraphy are at least good, and rise to being some of the best in genre. That being said, I do think JiK is probably his weakest album. That's not to say there aren't any highlights (Follow God is great, and "God Is" is legitimately beautiful). I think it's a solid album, but his other projects simply have much higher highs than this one. I do appreciate how he puts a greater focus into his faith on this album and doesn't necessarily aim to crowd please. It's not his best, but it's a very important album in defining his entire body of work.
Sidenote: Cannot wait to see the reaction to Donda, which IMO was a great follow-up from JiK!
I loved Donda, only two skips on the album IMO. Shame the deluxe got so ridiculously bloated and lost all sense of sequencing
Donda 2 is pretty bad. Ye really should've worked on it longer instead of releasing it prematurely like he had something to prove. He's Kanye Fuckin' West, he has nothing to prove.
@@waynewilson1068 That's my one complaint on Donda as well. It's a bit bloated, but hidden through the fluff lies a really magical album. I straight up made my own mini album with my personal highlights and it's fantastic! Personal favs is 24, Pure Souls, Believe What I Say, Keep my Spirit Alive, Moon, and of course Come to Life
@@waynewilson1068 I'd love to see what sequencing they use for Donda, because the tracks added on the deluxe are some of the best (especially nayf and lotp) but the sequencing sucks ass. You can't just throw them on after come to life, its the perfect end, but playing them after the part 2s feels worse.
@@100yinyang you could make a watertight, impeccable 10/10 album out of Donda by removing a few tracks I think. Theres like 2 or 3 skips and few songs that wouldn’t make the cut if I was trimming the album to be 10/10 but there’s a lot of really good music laced in there. I liked a lot of the songs that got added with the deluxe too but the album sequencing was ruined completely and make it feel more like a compilation than an album.
As a Christian I feel lot of good energy from this, but I understand how everyone is not gonna feel that.
I was sleeping on this album for so long for being a gospel one, but after giving it a try it is in my top 5 albums for sure. Best enlightening vocals and instrumentals.

love love love this album. I myself am a christian, and a lot of Kanyes bars are scripture based. So when I hear Kanye ( my favorite rapper ) easily and flawlessly incorporate it into his rhymes it got me hype. He speaks a lot about the struggles of holding on to faith in this social media driven world and life in general. Theres even a sample of a worship song we usually sing at bible study that had me weak bro like fr. So when people react to this album and don't vibe with it, i ain't even mad. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely for me.
