Hey brada my name blacky looks like your in las vegas i have a 2003 toyota pick up 2rzfe 4 cylinder i can figure out how to get rid of the code p0171 Can you please call or text me 808-387-8053. Thank you
Dad's always seem to get hugs last from boot camp or deployment. Thank her for her service. Thank you for the video. You have given me the knowledge to do both of my S10.
I’ve learned a lot from watching. Thank you for taking the time to upload all your videos. Also, thank your daughter for serving. God Bless you and your family.
Quicker than bolting on the assembly line i guess. If it's more profitable for them,it makes sense. + the fact they can charge more on repairs later on at the dealer.
Not a bad idea, do not have to buy Press in and out tools ball joint removal and installation tool. I Have a Ford and Honda and Chrysler all need Peres tools to do front end work😡😫🤷🏾♂️👨🏾🔧🇨🇦🇯🇲
i find that one year of vo tech school really doesn't prepare you enough. it's good enough to start with the basics. learning by doing and also watching youtube videos are better; electronic and obd diagnosis is more involved & that's where you become a technician than just a mechanic
@@JohnWhite-Iowa-City very heads a world on how you like to do it. Shoot you can chew it like a dog does a kong of you want. As long as the job gets done, in this case it's a Chevy s10 so about every 3 oil changes it needs ball joints🤣.
Hey Bro, you've inspired me to once again fix my own car. Had a '67 Pontiac Laurentian with the original engine to the early 90's. I kept doing my own repairs until the girl finally gave up. Now in my 60's and starting to repair my new/old car and saving $$$$. Thank you. Say thanks to your daughter for her service, pray she stays safe. Prayers to your whole family and God Bless! Keep them vid's coming good Sir.
You remind me of me doing all those things during my days in maryland in the mid 90s....i make more money doing side jobs/ home service than my reg job at ken dixon automotive...keep it up! And always remember safety first😁
Great videos, most times not all if you use a real hammer not a brass hammer still leaving the nut loose and hammering on the ball joint will break loose. You're doing more damage to your brass hammer than you are to that steering knuckle. But a ball joint spreaders definitely comes in handy. I have done several S10 front ends always just use hammer, sometimes get out a bigger hammer.
Great video. Another approach is to just use a die grinder(cutoff wheel) or an electric angle grinder for those rivets. Grind them flush and use a pin or taper punch to get the rivets out (will save you some drilling time). The joint itself just a BFH or a BFH with a suspension fork (you're gonna change it out and no harm in damaging the boot). Thanks for the videos!
Makes the job a lot easier too...😁 you know when you work at the dealership more job hours more pay!😁😁😁 no matter how quick and easy or hard the job...
after trying multiple 5/16 drill bits i'd go wit milwakee's. They go through steel the easiest in residential framing when doing 50 + holes. They can still snap tho so diligence is still key. Great video!
Great video !! Thank You ! I'll be digging into this job soon. Just noticed some severe wear on my tire !! OUCH !! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY LITTLE S10 !! The little truck with a BIG attitude !! 140K and still runs like new !!
Man oh man, that looks like quite a project. I need ball joints AND control arm bushings. Think I'll take my '01Extreme to a shop and make my wallet a whole lot more thin than it is now. The pro's get paid around $400. It will hurt my budget alot but this effort looks frustrating as the dickens. Thanks Angel for sharing what a person should expect to complete this project, very much appreciate it.
The reason they sound peaceful is because there is not much talk unlike the other DIY car repair channels that are replete with commentaries. For that, I also like his videos a lot more.
I like how you takes us through your struggles and pain (learning experience). 🤣 Air chisel or hammer and chisel will pop those rivets clean off. Air hammer with a fork attachment or hammer with a fork will separate the ball joints easy. 🤙
another good video showing it's better to just replace the entire control arm when thinking about this repair, look at the other bushings in the upper control arm, replacing the control arm means all this stuff is replaced as well these trucks are 20 years old, and typically the replacement control arm has serviceable ball joints, so avoid the hasstle and replace the entire control arm
Grind rivets off with a grinder punch rivets through with pointed air chisel bit and the ball joint will come out much easier.just be careful not to grind into upper control arm.
Im always so freakin amazed at how clean these cars are. Not an ounce of rust on them...man. im in michigan...everything seized or completely rotted away lol I wish u could post the temp. For the day for each job. Once we start gettin into 80's, im done workin on cars lol
didnt know they did there balljoints that way with rivets. I dont thank id like that but i guess it works fine. Looks like a pain to mess with. Nice job. I bet your proud of your daughter.
Thank u for sharing. Always like to see the way you fix cars. Metal drilling 101, you need something to lub and maintain the temperature of drill bits, otherwise heat will destroy many many bits. . I use wd 40.
great idea on the safety glasses but you need a mask when grinding and blowing dust and metal shavings with your breath, First mistake buying junk drill bits, second mistake not using a air chicle to pop the rivets out, other than that you are the man, by the way dodge also riveted their in as well in the earl 2000
Your videos are excellent, but a huge time saver on this one is to air chisel 4 rivet heads off of top of ball joint , then knock rivets down with chisel and a hammer. No need to drill and risk eyes to metal shavings.
Angel not trying to tell you what to do but next time just hit it with a small sledge a lot quicker than that adjuster tool. I do all the time for my s-10's when in this situation
Hey Angel. Have you swap an engine or transmission before at Toyota dealership? Would you do it again at home? Do you still work at Toyota? @Fix It Angel
Ball joint rivets must be tougher now. Back in the 70’s, the mechanics used air chisels to remove the rivets. I guess the air tools are noisy and your neighbors might complain.
Well Angel using drill like that is more safer than air chisel. If people out there always comments on air chisel work faster. Yes it is faster than drilling rivet out. Drilling is much cleaner than air chisel. If you are using the right way yes of course it will be cleaner just like drilling them out. I have air chisel myself and have been using them at Toyota dealership. I miss working with Toyota dealership with good people. Now they hiring all the young kids goofing off at work by using cell phone while working and running around at the shop too. They should hired 25 yeara old and above instead of hiring 18 years to 24 years old because they still acting liek children and lazy at work. It is ashame we live in a world like this. Thank you Angel for a great video.
In California its a great growing environment here in the great white north are growing season is short the cars you work on are nice and clean no rust Here in Canada its rust alley due to all the salt they use in the roads in winter time
rejmonwilson yes use rockauto that’s all I use now..I try to stick with moog brand parts..the prices are amazing and by ordering them from USA with the shipping and small duty fee.. it still beats everyone’s prices around here
Must be nice going home after BCT. I didn't even get that option, went straight to AIT then got to my first duty station at Ft. Bliss TX. What's her MOS ?
Great video I just have a question how do u know how much to charge them I know u call shops around but how many before u give them a price and what shops do u call since there's a lot of them thank you for your videos really love them

thanks man your videos are very helpful, tell your daughter a big thanks for her service . God Bless and God Bless America
Good job bro you are the best mechanic.
Great job Angel, I know that feeling. Did those ball joints on my brothers car a few years ago. I cut those damn rivets with a grinder 😊
Thank you for posting the video of your daughter coming home from basic training I hope she is OK? And God bless you all
Riveted ball joints; GM engineers must be on crack!
They are.
Super easy with a air chisel, literally 5 minutes and they are gone.
Quicker than bolting on the assembly line i guess.

i find that one year of vo tech school really doesn't prepare you enough. it's good enough to start with the basics. learning by doing and also watching youtube videos are better; electronic and obd diagnosis is more involved & that's where you become a technician than just a mechanic
Good choice in Moog front end parts! A air hammer with a cutting chisel works better than a drill. Glad you used a new cotter pins! Lol
Don't miss working on them.. But I used to cut slots on the rivets with a cut off wheel and introduce the air hammer. Very effective
Get a better air hammer and no slot needed.

Perfect temperature to grow some stuff. Here in Canada we got alot of apples lol. Nice video. Thanks.

Take a cut off wheel and cut an "x" into the rivets, then take an air chisel to pop them out. Makes the job go super fast
