This is the KISS that most of us fell in love with as kids in the 70's. Parents hated them, churches protested them......kids thought they were the coolest thing ever.
My very first concert was the KISS Destroyer tour........I was 9 or 10.......my dad, a country boy, had no clue what he was taking me to.....neither did I for that matter.

When KISS was formed, it was their goal to be like something that was NEVER seen before, and to leave the crowd stunned at what they just witnessed. All four members sang lead also, with certain songs. Paul and Gene sang the majority of them, but Peter Criss (drummer) and Ace Frehley (lead guitar) had songs they sang too.

I think it’s time for you guys to listen THE ODESSY 1981 by then. When the music was so treasury. Those when many musicians and bands were struggling or dying. Some of them refused to be killed by the disco they quick and the others were surfing on the big musical waves, new styles old styles splashed.
I think I was lucky to be a witness of that BIG BANG ‼️ in the music history.
Was the time when so many fans were “betrayed “ by their musical idols. Just like that .
I think you have to learn a lot and maybe you could understand the people from that generation. Maybe not.

"The Midnight Special" was a late night weekly television program that aired on NBC beginning in 1972. Usually had several bands, sometimes some standup comedy, and was hosted by legendary radio DJ Wolfman Jack. It was notable in that performers actually performed live, in front of a live audience, rather than lip syncing to their recordings, which was how most bands appeared on other television shows. It has gained cachet in the RUclips era because a wide library of these performances exist, and the quality of recording was uncommonly good for a television program in the early 70's. Many of the performances feature bands that may not have any other film or video of them performing live even available...

As someone born in the early 1960s, I grew up during an incredible time in the presence of music. In high school, Friday nights were for partying, but I had to be home early enough to watch The Midnight Special! Same with Saturday nights, but to watch "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert!" And now and then, there were incredible musical performances on "Saturday Night Live!" There were so many incredible musical guests on those shows. With the Midnight Special, they required acts to play live, no lip-sync. I'll never forget the show that featured a solo performance by Todd Rundgren, the song, "Hello, It's Me." They announced that Todd would be performing, singing and playing piano to his own backing track. There are so many amazing performances out there,in particular by a band called "Fanny," a quartet of incredibly talented women who prepared the way for bands like The Runaways, The Bangles and The Go-Gos.

Kiss live was awesome. The platform shoes enhanced their "larger than life" image. They literally looked like giants, and each persona was mesmerizing. Regular shoes would have been too passe, or normal. They wanted to go all out, and this clip was early Kiss. Their stage show continued to be more and more sophisticated and each tour had more additional effects, i.e. lasers, flames, Gene spitting fire and rising to the rafters, Paul going on a zip line to the center of the arena, Peter's drum riser coming to the front of the stage during his solo, and rising to the ceiling at the end of "Black Diamond", and Ace's guitar shooting rockets. They are sang lead. Check out the Catman drummer on "Hooligan" live in Houston 1977. You'll both dig his r&b voice.

One of the very best Kiss songs ever. Very glad you chose the live version for your reaction, it's much better than the studio version. This video is made even better because it was the original Kiss line up playing.
I saw them live in concert back in 1975 and they blew me away.
Because of their stage antics, it's often overlooked what good musicians they are. Ace Frehley is a premier lead guitarist and Peter Criss is an excellent drummer. Sometime you may want to check out his amazing drum solo in the live version of "100,000 Years" 1975-76 era Thanks for reacting to this song and please continue your Kiss journey.

Kiss set the standard for all live shows done today. This is a performance at the very start of their formation. With each year, their shows became more powerful, outrageous and bombastic. It's called 'shock rock'. And Kiss were masters at it. As they became multi-millionaires they could afford to go over-the-top on effects,....lasers, bombs, fire, etc .In the years that followed, other bands started copying.

I saw this band, this same year, this same set design and band look, 1975, in a small town college gymnasium. I was 14. There might have five hundred people there. What always impressed me about that concert was that, while they were still on their way up, they were already big enough that I could see them not really knocking themselves out for a small crowd in a small town, but there was none of that. They hit it hard, with an attitude that seemed to be: "There might not be many people here, but those that are are going to see the greatest show of their lives, and remember it forever"...Highly commendable, and highly indicative of their drive at the time...

The first time I saw KISS was also the first time I saw Black Sabbath as KISS opened around the time of this video, KISS was semi shocking but give them props for having the chops to back up the outrageous stage performance. Deuce is an excellent tune off their debut album, it rocks, big time! These guys were nuts and could bang out some damn fine hard rock, New York style. BUT Sabbath came out and showed immediately why they were headliners with the opening notes of War Pigs. Do KISS and their anthem, God of War, another slab of pioneering semi-metal, hard rocking goodness.

Early Kiss is so wonderful; before they became good at playing their instruments. Simmons is like 6' 5" and used to set his topknot on fire! The next one should be "Black Diamond," or "Cold Gin Time."

There’s a cool tribute album called Kiss My A**. Lenny Kravitz does this song and Garth Brooks does “Hard Luck Woman”. That’s a good song you guys might like.

Platforms were the thing back in the day but not everyone had the balls or confidence to wear them! I wore them with my denim jumpsuit, those were the days my friends!

Some of the must watch definitive KISS performances are Winterland 1975, Cobo Hall January 1976, Houston or Largo MD 1977.
Some songs to check out are Black Diamond, God Of Thunder, Strutter, Love Gun, I Stole Your Love, Watchin You, Shock Me.
As far as recordings the live versions from KISS Alive & KISS Alive ll are iconic.

The high footware made them larger on stage, creating an even larger than life presence.
KISS was all about the show!
They wanted to be The Beatles taken to an extreme!
Gene is “The Demon”, Paul is “Starman”, Ace is “Space Ace” and Peter is “Catman”.

I’ve been a KISS fan since 1975. Unfortunately Dec 02, 2023 was their final concert. I got to see them twice in concert. Their concept of live performances was that it’s 50/50 - visual as well the sound. At 72 - Paul Stanley was still able to stick those landings and still had the dance moves. The boots and visual effects got bigger but the music stayed the same

This is when I liked kiss, before they became a pop band. I did see them record that live album in the late 70s in L.A, along with a bunch of 12 and 13-year-old kids with their parents. I just went because I knew they were going to make a live album, it was fun but this first album or wherever this song came from is a great album. I should say a great 8 track tape.

This is a tv show from the 70's that they played on, much toned down. In concert they have more fire, explosions, general pyrotechnics and stage presence of any band I've ever seen! Say what you will about the outfits and makeup but they are truly the best stage band EVER!

Kiss was a struggling band that couldn't break the big time until they came out with a live album called Kiss "Alive". Then they became the biggest band in the land. Or something like that? A littile before my time. But I know my history or Kisstory, LOL.

That is a TV studio. They might not have been able to use all their pyrotechnics. Kiss is FAMOUS for their use of pyrotechnics, risers, and more.... Keep checking out live performances. They were the trend setter for fire on stage. Another song to.try, Love Gun. Also, if youd like to see them sans makeup, the song I Still Love You on MTV unplugged. Bands come on the show and played their music accustically . While I prefer the.electric version, this one is outstanding, it's a showcase of Paul Stanley"s vocals. Highly recommend. 🙂
