There is a guy on RUclips, whose name I've forgotten, his strings sound realistic af, and what he does is he dubs the logic ones with the Sonatina sfz free sample pack, then he has staccato strings dubbing all the legato strings for realistic attack, then comes your usual compression/EQ, it is not ideal, but it almost sounds like an orchestra, I mean for its price it's the best thing

Thank you for actually explaining things clearly and not just expecting your viewers to know everything, unlike so many other RUclipsrs who are making tutorials on Logic. I feel like I can actually follow along with your videos and understand what your doing because of how you explain things in detail without throwing out a bunch of pretentious lingo that I know nothing about. lol. You've earned a sub, for sure.

To make sustained notes more realistic, be sure to use the mod wheel to add vibrato. Also adjust the attack and release of those notes to create a smoother transition between notes.

Dude. Every time. Your tutorials are the ones I keep coming back to. Here's why: No bumper at the beginning. They are competent. The content/minute is great. AND - You show all the screen real estate with voiceover instead of picture in picture. AND AND - they keep getting better over the years.

In your pizzicato example, I’d make the third from last note pizz. too, then the last two sustained, otherwise you’re asking your string players to make an awkwardly quick transition.

Great video thx! I noticed you clicked 5 times to automate one small string section. Try the marquee select then click and drag. Just 2 clicks and works perfectly every time without accidental node clicks. 👍

I'd love for you to make (and sorry if you already have) some ideas about how to use aftertouch.

Awesome tutorial ! Got a problem. Every time a part (violins, cello, etc.) plays a legato note, it sounds like the dynamic of that note "swells up" from the initial attack to the sustain portion of that note. Can we have the same dynamic of a note being played from the beginning of it to the end? Any suggestions?

  • @sunfran_shamanmusic

Hi:), thank you that really nice. How is possible to have a big slide glissato up and down if there is a huge interval between one note the other??
This is common for fretless instruments in some style of playing, im not talking about pitch banding, im talking about full slide transaction between notes. How to make that with midi, especially violin?

  • @steveditore3165

A great video on string techniques for people who don't have a college degree in music or have never studied
orchestration; but in the end, there's not much that can be done about the poor-to-despicable quality of Logic's
built-in string sounds: paper-y and/or cardboard-y, thin and not believable. Using EQ to pull down a wide band
around 1 kHz helps, but it ain't never gonna sound as good as e.g. Logic's saxophone and trumpet libraries.
Even compared to Alpine Project's free string libraries, Logic pales in terms of general sound quality (but has
more articulation options that are easier to get to). Too bad, but getting really great pro-sounding string sample
libraries with all the usual articulation options (skipping the Bartok "snap" pizzacto, col legno battuto, and any or
all of Crumb's or Lachenmann's oddball experiments) would be vastly too expensive to free-bundle into a digital
production suite. Actually, the col legno's might be fun ...
