i hear ya, about how safe they feel. i have a 12' RIB and a 14' zodiac. safest-feeling boats i've ever been in. we salmon fish the ocean in my brother's 22' cabin cruiser, but i still feel safer in my inflatable. i've been in some big waves, and never even batted an eye. the boat just rides right over everything. love them.
Check your local government for license requirements. In TN, if it has a motor of any kind, it needs to be registered. But a Captain's License is not required.

I've got the BRIS 10.8ft with a Hangkai 6hp and I can hit about 8 MPH.
I figured out how to get it on plane and can now do 15 MPH with the 6hp with only 1 person, 8 MPH was with 2 people.

Yes, it floats on salt water. Don't take it too far out into blue water though.
