Thanks for the review. I was hoping for a more complete review of its 4x4 abilities and limitations. For example towing a caravan down a fire break and up the beach to a campsite.
we have the same truck in canada, hwy fuel consumption is way better than you gave. at a consistant 105 kmh we get 9.5 to 10.5 l/100km. towing our 3400 kilo travel trailer at 105, consumption is around 16l/100. this is with the hemi and 8 speed auto. truck is completely stock as from the factory(lhd of course)
Had the 3.0 EcoDiesel here in Canada, 2016 version. Net superior to the Hemi for reaxed towing, fuel economy could average 10.5 l in the summer, even 8.5 for highway. Air suspension did wonders. Quite good off road, I towed a big caravan and an atv in the back. But as one of the comments was pointing, the payload was the real loser...when fueled up and loaded it was easily always illegal. It didn’t even feel it but it was. The new 1500 is supposed to have a bigger capacity. 800-1000kms with 95L diesel was realistic.
As an aussie living in the states and driving a 2019 Ram 1500, I can't praise them high enough. I came from owning numerous Holden's and HSV's when I lived in Australia, and the Ram quality is on another level. and for 40k USD out the door, it's a no brainer.

@@coopsnz1 depends on which State. Delaware has no sales tax. US doesn't have a VAT at all, although some people would like to change that.

How does it feel on the tracks? I mean I have a 200 series, so does it feel bigger or much the same? Cheers Steve
Spent a month in Canada with a 1500. It had the 5.7 v8 Hemi. Can't beat it for long distance comfort. Drove through a snow storm from Vancouver to Sun Peaks in the Kamloops region. Did really well on the snow and ice, could feel the traction control doing it's thing and felt stable while we passed scores of vehicles that slid off the road. Did okayish on tracks. Would prefer diff lock, think you can speck that though. I drive a hilux back home and always feel, on trails, that I can feel where each wheel is and what it's doing. 1500 definitely feels more disconnected from the driver, more like a boat that you're just pointing in a direction, hoping to sail over the obstacle. Chassis also feels like it's warping over obstacles. It's big, not much wider, but way longer than your 200. In North America that's fine, parkings are bigger, etc. Don't know if I'd want to live with it in SA or Aus. Turning circle is surprisingly good, but still takes some maneuvering on track, due to its length. Big issue, for me, is the payload - substantially less than a ton. So if you're four big mates in the cabin, you can't utilise the impressive towing ability, your hitch weight would have you over the gvm. Would like the 3500 for a touring vehicle though - beefy axles, good aftermarket lockers available, Cummins engine and more than 1.5 tons payload. Wouldn't be as good as the 200 off road, but will get you into the bush while carrying and pulling all you can dream of.

I think a truck like that is worth buying if you want to pull a fifth wheeler. But the size of it prohibits you from running through most 4wd tracks in Australia. And it's cumbersome to drive and park in urban areas.
I can not see how it carries or tows as claimed the figures do not add up.
Where was the off road review?
Small holes, small inclines. I climb more and try to bury my truck in the yard here in Mississippi and caint get stuck with 2..wd

Shit house. I worked in Canada for 2 years in the oil industry, the Rams were always having transmission/lifter problems. The 5.3 Silverados arent much better. They fall apart and rust out.
It's big, bigger than our roads, our car parks, driveways and 4x4 tracks.
Being American, you can count on it developing rattles, squeaks and knocks.
Who's been trained to service it, and is it backed Australia wide with sufficient parts?
I personally see it as a wankers car, it won't outperform a cruiser nor outlast one - it won't be backed like a Toyota and will cost the Average Aussie far more than it's worth.
Driven plenty of yank trucks over the years, most of them feel worse to drive than my farm ute after 6-7 years. My farm ute is an 84 Hilux 2.4 diesel.

"Heads rubbing" you didnt even adjust the seat
looks fairly average off road. everything sits way too low like an amarok. also not sure what's with the poxy aussie spec tow bar. hangs so low compared to the yank models.
It looks low because of the front bumper it has insane suspension travel the factory side steps are shit tho all you need is a 2 inch lift and good tries a aftermarket bumper and its an extremely capable truck
Get a Hilux, Ranger or a D-Max, spend 25k on upgrades and there's the price for a new Ram. Don't get me wrong, I love the Dodge Rams and if you need to tow big weights, for sure, go a Ram. But for the price of a stock Ram you can have a brand new top spec 4x4 with great upgrades!!
But won't tow 3.5 ton in the toy utes safely
Better buy the F150 raptor. World's best selling pick up truck. Far better than the baby ranger and other Japanese cars. It comes with standard Fox racing suspension. There is one selling in car sales 250 K 2020 model though. Price comparison should not be an issue if people can afford it. If people have money they will not buy Hilux n ranger.
Hell maybe I should put a RUclips video up and show you what I have to do in the yard just to try to use four wheel drive

Not at all it's a niche vehicle but we dont have much choice although were now getting the chevy utes now
Rhd conversion $20000 + taxes makes it expensive
The problem with these they cost 100k then you need to spend thousands on a lift kit to fit decent off road tyres!

@@coopsnz1 it's a slt nothing fancy but still not the trades man it's a 2019 Delmonico red 4x4 with the 5.7l hemi. It had 26k miles I'm almost at 50k now. My company ordered some in white and I think they spent 26k new I'm not sure if that was for the 4x4 models or the 2wd ones though

I bought a 2013 f150 platinum in usa for $30000usd / $48000aud + shipping $4000 + custom fess at the port $1000 + rhd conversion $15000 + $23000 taxes = $100000aud . The diesel pick up in Australia aren't lct 33% , that ram he is interviewing is lct why the high price

Unfortunate that you guys ended up with dodge and not a Ford option like the f150 or super duty. The Cummins in the 2500 ram is a great engine but it's a diamond inside a turd. Maybe they won't rust to pieces down there compared to here, but you still got that good old Chrysler reliability to deal with, and probably expensive parts to ship from the states. Quality review though

Ford would be a good truck if they could put a good motor in it... don’t know why you Aussies don’t put your 6 cylinder in it.. we can’t get that in the US... only truck we’d buy is a Silverado or the Ram, F150 motors are just junk... best looking trucks

In australia your trucks are classified as cars here. We call large load hauling heavy commercual vehicles trucks (semis, trayback etc)
For that sort of money Toyota is the only choice here. Far better quality, more reliable, and cheaper to maintain.
Nobody who bought falcons or or Maloo's are going to buy these lol. They bought those UTEs because they were useful, but performed like a performance car. Not this PICKUP that would handle like a bus. Totally different markets mate
Useful? Have you ever owned an Aussie built Ute? Single cabs are a waste of time for anything but looking good... Owned my FG fir 3yrs and loved it for looks and performance...but that's where it ends.
I'd take a full size V8 pickup over the fgx or vf2 Ute's
some people really do need the power and dimensions on rural type of settings where the cars you named dont have the wheelbase to make towing safe. try to drive a performance ute up a 2 km driveway with nothing but rocks and ditches.

I don't load it up all the time, but do often.
For "Dry weather" farm tracks and outback roads, in the wet it lacks 4x4 but it fits a niche, the difflock is handy on greasy tracks - fairly comfortable covering thousands of km getting around - on dual Gas/Petrol. (remember all the old Cockies getting around in old HQ utes, they managed without 4wd...)
really???? ive had every falcon ute since the au for work i just got rid of a new ranger to buy the dodge ram which suits me perfectly a great proper ute made to work with stacks of room and comparable to a 200 series toyota for drive quality !!! So speak for yourself mate its not a show pony like a maloo its a work truck

Stuff knows why they cost so much when they are so much less in the states, we have no Australian manufacturing and we are stuck with Asian models mostly that are over priced as well. Why are we ripped off on cars.
