Mate, this is the most informative luderick video I've watched. It was so great to see how you prep the fish for filleting and how you filleted them. Really appreciated it. I've subscribed 👌
@@anglinguntangled all the best mate. I used to spend alot of time down that way contracting to the cheese factory was there at least once a month. Again good luck buddy. I will flick you a message if im heading down that way sometime soon
G'Day,,Nice spot you have there,,sunday arvo and all,,Yes i Know where you are,,i fish the little harbour..Not a lot but enough for a feed for me,,But nice film,,just caught this by accident,, Very strange water movement in little harbour,,and the oysters play havec with light gear,, But that fishing,,
Yeah one of my favourite spots that little corner. Can always go in for a beer if the fish aren’t biting. You’re right about the water movement, seems that a back eddy occurs and your float heads towards the sea on an incoming tide
@@anglinguntangled G'Day,,,yeer put a coupe of hours in this morning Had one down,,still havn't seen the fish,,No Play,,just took of,8lb leaders as well,,Mind water was a bit clean on the run in,,but left just after high,,back giving me curry,,
Yeah it’s hard going on the harbour during the warmer months. My gear generally gets packed away until next winter or I’ll have the odd crack from the ocean rocks
without doubt the best video on how to fillet a luderick I had to come back to this video to fine tune my filleting skills plus the tip on chilling the fish well done
Thank you very much for the kind words mate! Also love sticky’s vids and he’s part of the reason I got started in making my own, so I’m stoked to be held in the same regards. Hoping to get the ball rolling again soon and start churning out some more vids 👍🏼
@@anglinguntangled sticky must be a legend up there! Only came across your channel yesterday so can't wait to watch the rest of the vids. You're a natural teacher for sure!
Nice Vid. Re the spike, which looks quite brutal, I note that the fish hardly bleed when they have been spiked. Alternatively, when you just cut their throat, the blood just pumps out. Do they still bleed out? When you turned the fillet over, I cut out that whole centre spine line, effectively cutting the fillet in two, removing any other blood left in the fillet. I find the blood is where the 'fishy' taste comes and dis-colours the fillet when you cook them. I use a piece of timber ply rather than those plastic boards as the fish doesn't slide around as much.
Whether you brain spike them or not is down to personal preference. I like to err on the side of caution and treat fish as if they can feel pain/suffer which is supported by some research. But they absolutely bleed fine if you brain spike them first and you can see that the heart will keep pumping for up to a couple of minutes after, the same is if you skip the spike. Yeah I’ll definitely get rid of the red meat in gamier fish like tailor but don’t mind it too much in luderick.
I never catch one of these before but must say you make it look so easy. Thank you for taking the time from how to gather the bait to the end where you fillet it..looking forward for more ..
Great videos, looking forward to the beach worm video you spoke of doing. I walked past while you were filleting the luderick. Where did you gather the bait? I can always find the stringy weed but rarely the cabbage.
Cheers mate and will hopefully have that video out it out within a few days. As for the cabbage, any ocean rock shelf that gets a bit of wash over it at high tide likely has some cabbage growing on it. South of merewether baths and rocks north of bar beach usually have some good patches but the abundance can go down in winter due to greedy fisherman taking more than their share
Hi mate I love the production values in your production. I would like to catch up and have a chat about my new project called LuderickNation. I live in Newy as well.
