      Honestly, since the first BMCC, the BMD camera design is bad. Pocket OG is his only flawless camera in terms of design, that camera was so advanced, so well constructed, so compact... Then Pocket 4K came around with that dslr bulky gym bro body, that nobody understood; Why you will design a video camera with the form of a dslr? The didn't get that people were filming with dslr because of the specs but not because of the body?... I think Sony is the only brand that understood this consumer need. They put the sensor of the A7 on the FX3 with a video oriented body with video functionalities. Simple as that. On top of that we can complain for ours and cry a lot because of this cripple-brick shaped camera running on NFP, but the real problem with PYXIS in 2024, is the sensor. I'm 100% agree with you, they have at least 4-5 years to improve the design with tons and tons of feedback on camera design, specs, real needs, and they didn't listen.

      I think all brands do the same one way or the other, look how much time for Sony to update the their flagship camera, how much time for lumix to implement PDAF, this black magic camera is not perfect and they are not saying is perfect, I am actually happy they don’t put anything else so the camera has a price I can actually afford, if they put internal nds, and all the things people are asking for this camera to have it will have the same price of a red camera, and that will leave people like me out of hope 😂😂😂, if you guys want a camera with all those things you are asking for please it’s easy there are other brands, get a burano, an arri or event this new high end Blackmagic cameras but you can ask for a cheap cinema camera to have it all, is just as simple as that, is a cheap cinema camera so it will have a lot of downsides you just need to learn how to deal with that, maybe in the future they launch a Pyxis Pro with all this stuff, but then don’t ask for the same price 😂😂😂😂😂😂

      The “I’m selling my…” thing doesn’t make sense to me either. Under most circumstances the Pyxis doesn’t displace more expensive cameras if you already have them. In my case I picked up a 6K Ursa Broadcast a while back which has been fine, but I’m tired of the bulk. So for me downsizing from the Ursa Broadcast to the Pyxis makes plenty of sense. But do I love the rolling shutter????? Not at all. I still need a fast readout sensor in my collection to shoot fast-moving, action oriented content. But pair this with a Tilta lightweight shoulder rig and strap a cellular hotspot on the side, then you’ve got a potent little run and gun setup with internal camera to cloud services. If you’re covering a conference for instance and want to do ultra quick turnaround of interviews and b-roll, this is a fantastic combination. Every time you hit the stop button, the proxies move to the cloud and your editor can trim, add bumpers, and post in a matter of minutes and for a very reasonable price. Or you can direct stream from the camera if you like. BM always builds in some broadcast-ish features that you can’t find onboard most other cameras.

      Is this a better camera than the Cinema 6k? And worth paying more for the privilege of having to buy an evf and a new monitor so you can run and gun or even just make it flexible for different scenarios? The simple answer is no - in my view. If your answer is yes it is better, then what makes it better that you can’t fix with the price difference?

    • @waveland
      @waveland 4 месяца назад +2

      @@rodprod8522 Of course it’s better than the 6k CC. Let’s see. Dual CFExpress, a locking timecode connector, 12G SDI out, it’s more narrow and I won’t have an HDMI cable sticking in my ear while on the shoulder (I own the CC and use it with a Tilta shoulder rig), record button on the side instead of the top, primary controls on the side with a lot more dedicated buttons, a native PL mount, designed specifically for attaching a cellphone. That’s just off the top of my head.

    I think it's great. People have completely unrealistic expectations and a seeming lack of understanding of this type of design.
    I haven't heard any convincing arguments to dissuade me that this is anything other than a highly riggable, bang-per-buck power house. I wouldn't necessarily sell a perfectly capable camera for it. I would opt for it over cameras like the FX6 because I thoroughly research my needs and balance them against my budget.
    I love tech, but I love money more. It's unwise to sp*nk all your money on a camera at the expense of overheads, profit, and other important investments.
    For my type of work, this would simply offer a highly versatile rig with amazing picture quality for my corporate work and allow me to use all my L-mount lenses, saving me lots of money. It's a no brainer, for me at least 😊

    Keeping my Komodo-X. I love my Nikon!!
    It's got a lot of lurking compromises that if you shoot regularly you tire of quickly. For me that dealbreakers include:
    - No 60fps in primary full res format, adding caveats to b-roll collection
    - No v-lock so it can't use the dozen I own for other cams
    - No easy to add power distro for: external monitor, wireless transmitter, FIZ power, LIDAR
    - Lack of ProRes mode for quick hand-offs
    - No rear-filtration external mounts in PL or EF
    - Body seems like it'll be pretty bulky with a full cage
    - Single channel audio, so it's external recorders for even an interviewer+subject sit down? damn.
    - No global shutter (it really is amazing once you switch to it)
    And to be clear you can rig around a lot of the above. Add a vlock plate and power distro to some rods, use a Ninja for recording/monitoring, use a mattebox instead of rear filtration ND's, etc etc. But the necessity to do those things sucks because you go from a small little setup to suddenly your cheap/light BM camera weighs too much to balance correctly on a Satchler Ace M tripod head so you gotta upgrade everything you set your camera on. It's snowballs and adds up REALLY FAST.

    The best thing about the PYXIS:
    1. Adding a monitor but conveniently forget the hinge to be able to flip out and twist the screen.
    2. Gently asking $500 more for the same sensor with all the glory, warts and all.
    3. Nicely rub salt on the wounds and ask us to buy actual usable monitor.
    In my humble opinion, if they wont discontinue the OG BMCC FF 6K for couple of years into the future, I have no issues or qualms.

      @sittingnow 4 месяца назад +5

      @@IanSnape yeah but what I mean is they can change the processor (not the sensor) that reads from the sensor. Grant said in the video the internals are different to the Cinema Camera 6K, so i’m keen to see what the lab results are.

    • @sittingnow
      @sittingnow 4 месяца назад +4

      So in other words, the sensor doesn’t read from itself, it captures photons, the processor connected to the sensor is the thing that affects the read speed from the sensor. So if they change that, could make the readout speed a lot faster. I’m not expecting a global shutter-esque improvement, but they’ve done this before with the OG pocket and the Micro cine. Same sensor, different internals and a better readout speed (and higher FPS capture) on the micro.

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck 4 месяца назад +1

      This is not the case. The sensor is the thing that is either fast or slow in terms of readout. For example, Sony's current lineup of alpha cameras all utilize the same processor but have different sensors. The a7SIII and FX3 have faster reading sensors than the a7IV and a7RV which all use the same processor. Or take Fujifilm--the stacked sensor in the X-H2S is much faster than the sensor in the X-H2 or X-T5 but they all use the same processor

    The Pyxis is a box camera, not an all-in-one box handycam for weekend warriors on family vacation. Blackmagic will have an external camera control monitor soon. All REDs and all ARRIs have 7" control monitors on top. ARRI has their own camera control monitor the CCM-1 7” LCD screen. RED has their own DSMC2 and DSMC3 7" LCD screens. The Pyxis is a serious production set camera meant to be rigged-up, not a handycam with a little flip-out screen. By the way, you can export ProRes from Fusion within DaVinci Resolve.

    I don't own any cine cameras or anything on the high end. While I think the camera was close, but missed the mark are as follows:
    1. You give us this nice screen (and great controls), but you either need to buy the EVF or mount a monitor. It does not rotate out.
    Especially if you're a solo creator. Should just give us the EVF.
    2. Micro XLR, not standard. none of my local music stores sells that cable or even an adapter. This means those shooting concerts or live performance, you cannot easily plug into a sound board. Same goes for your boom operator. You will now have to rely on a possibility noisy 3.5mm for scratch audio. Plus only 1? That means running a splitter for mono only sound.
    3. Now it's funny canon is risking its own cinema camera line up by licensing the EF mount. but there is no E mount to draw Sony lens owners? I mean they had to license the batteries. Imagine how many more lenses they could sell? Panasonic and lieca do not have a cine line up, so I can see licensing the L and PL mounts.
    4. Only shoots in BRAW only? Will my Mac or iPad accept that? I don't use windows but some do. . What about us who are more into simpler codecs like prores, rec 709, h624, h265, standard mp4 / mov for easier / quicker editing.
