      @@HeavenCanWait7-333 5000 years ago not 2000 2000 years before Celts is 5000 back then Britain was a small collection of Kingdoms Gaelic and Brythonic the ancient Welsh Irish and Scottish the former being the latter and the latter being the former. The Shared culture is shown through neolithic monuments this is where these primary sources comes in archaeological studies a Google stone circles there is a wealth of knowledge might hear on RUclips from people who live near the sites. If you fast forward to 500 a.d. the phrase Britannica is fairly well established in Latin writings this is ideology at work why the Romans called it it after the areas they had overtaken rather than naming it after the places they couldn't Conquer is probably due to them hating anybody different to them which they would then dub inferior this attitude would survive the next 1500 years. in that 1500 years the English rose to power in the wake of invasion Roman Viking Norman this lose sense of identity is probably why why the word Britain is used for the whole Island because they were working off of Roman information rather than Celtic information. the Irish do this invasion worship thing too but in a very different way they use it as a way to feel connected to the rest of the world the English and many modern Nations get scared and we end up in the weird positions we're in today like brexit for example. Before the Neolithic there was barely Five Guys and goat here so that's pretty much the entirety of "British" history lol the abridged and simple version. These kinds of macro information are quite easy to know more so than individual Kings Queens and the like who often turn out to be semi mythical or possibly entirely made up by modern standards but that's what people tend to think of history as a list of names and dates not at all very falsifiable and best left in the realms of whimsy. to go back into pedantic mode looking up the etymology of the word British would probably tell you more then my attempt to explain it because I have to try and imagine what they were thinking. One could try and guess what they were thinking but but things were radically different 1000 years ago 5 times that amount we're talking about people who were barely white because white people were a new thing back then blue eyes only having recently emerged time is one hell of a drug lol.

      General Motors shafted us, they took a half billion $ hand out of tax payer money to keep producing cars in Aust, and they had no intention of doing so.
      They closed shop, kept the money and gave the Aust public the bird. Look at the history of GM, they are now and always have been one of the worst "corporate citizens" around.
      Look at the hand outs they accepted in the US after the GFC, and yet they still reduced the workforce.
      Govt is good at handing out corporate welfare with no checks or balances, but still shaft the Aust taxpayer at every turn, but it's not just the Govt at blame here, GM (and Ford, and Nissan, and Mitsubishi), had no intention of continuing production in Aust.
      Good riddance to them, nothing more than arseholes.

      @@TheAlps36As an American who's fallen in love with AUDM cars, here's how I see it. Aussies and Americans both love big, cheap power, and big V8s.
      However, American muscle cars are more catered towards driving in straight lines on tarmac, doing stoplight races when the cops aren't looking, and only having a backseat for insurance purposes.
      Australian muscle, on the other hand, is different. The Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon are full-size 4-door sedans. They're designed for Bathurst racing, drifting across the Australian outback, and most importantly, hooning with your mates. Don't want a backseat? They come in Ute variants for utility (and quick burnouts). Even the Monaro has pretty good backseat room for being a 2-door coupe. It's truly a tragedy that GM and Ford both left Australia and took nothing with them.

    For the life of me, I can't understand why they rebranded Holden cars as Vauxhalls. Australia in itself is a good brand. It speaks to reliability and quality, that kind of brand recognition adds value. The Vauxhall badge was just "cheaper than a VW". Holden knew their corner of the market and they nailed it. They built comfortable cars for yobbos. They weren't competing with Audi, the were competing with Ford, and they were building unique cars, albeit ones that all looked the same.

    • @iffracem
      @iffracem 3 года назад +1

      And when imports arrived that were, frankly better and more cost effective than the "home grown" alternative, what happened?
      The Govt introduced import tariffs to "protect" the industry.
      Did the industry use this protection to improve their product and make it competitive with the imports?
      Did they make better cars at less cost for the consumer, seeing we were already paying for these tariffs anyway) (the consumer always carries the costs of tariffs, manufacturers don't)
      No, they continued to make crap cars but raised the prices to just below imported+tariff prices, and all being owned by multinationals, kept the difference in offshore bank accounts.
      The first commodore was an imported design, an Opel. A 4 cylinder Opel design that they shoe horned a decades old push rod 6 cylinder into.
      The V6 commodore? Powered by an already asthmatic Buick engine.
