    Your video was very helpful. I especially like that you showed how to take the cover and what to test for. Mine was starting intermittently so I have spark so then I suspected the control cable wire was somehow the problem. Your video helped point me in the right direction to test mine out. So now I just have to locate a new cable and hopefully will be good to go. Thanks again for a very informative video!

    Great video, picked up a couple of craftsman machines last week so this will come in handy. I do have a question. When you manually spin the engine for the spark test and previous videos check the compression, what attachment do you use? I would like to purchase it for future troubleshooting purposes. Thanks!

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  2 года назад +1

      I use a standard socket adapter however I cant recommend this. You need a clutch setup. They do make one but I cant remember what its called.
      I really need to make up a "Wish List".
      The drill I use has no bolt to hold on the chuck. Sometimes you will hear the drill make noises or actually see the chuck come off.
      This is so when the motor starts or worse kicks back it wont break my wrist or slam my hand!
      I only use this drill for the engines.
      Be careful,,,,,

    Whats on the end of the vice grip fuel hose crimp tool?
    How would you compare Super Clean with Purple Power?

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  2 года назад

      That's one of those cheapy & Crappy tools I got years ago, junk really so I put some tape over the teeth. I really should just grind the teeth off cuz its No Good for anything else!
      I do like SuperClean,, they may be very similar because both are based on a Sodium (Base = as in base vs acid) which we used to call lye.
      They make it in several versions, pressurized spray cans and pump style. The Foamy is nice for those deep turds, they also make a mag wheel cleaner that I would like to try eventually.

    Some of the cables can be adjusted to take up slack or tie a not in cable

  • @jaimeramirez-zt9dd
    @jaimeramirez-zt9dd 25 дней назад +1

    I picked up a free Craigslist 190cc 1993 brig's and Stratton lawn mower. I checked for compression it was 55psi. I used spark tester and spark plug light came on when i zip tied open the clutch cable to stay open because the linkage cable is bent, so it's not the coil even though its rusty. I already cleaned the carburetor which had green mold inside the carb which I'm assuming it was not started in a long time and had old fuel. But it still won't start. So then I removed the carburetor and added small amount of fuel directly where the carburetor sits and it was shooting flames and some what chugging which was not doing before but it did not sound like it was running. So im confused was it running if it was shooting flames? Does it need a new carb, sparkplug or is timing misaligned

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  23 дня назад

      Hard to say. Compression is a little low,, briggs says 40 is the absolute lowest.
      Without a carb on it it wont run when spraying fuel into the intake. It may bark or even run wide open throttle for a minute but its just farting which is a good sign.
      You may have sticky rings or valves not closing all the way or maybe even a score in the cylinder.
      Get a cheap carb on amazon and try it!
      Tighten the head bolts, probably loose around the exhaust valve. You may even have a crack in the head gasket.

    First thing you should have done is check the oil. Over filled will not allow the engine to start. Takes one minute and can save a lot of time if that was the problem from the start.

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  11 месяцев назад +1

      Not the point of the video..
      I've had a number of machines with very high oil levels. Those start, usually the engine is fouled and often the plug as well.
      That's a different video and one that I'm kind working on now.
      Smoked out the neighborhood lol but it started ok considering.

    Yo Unk. Man I've tried everything. Replace carburetor, plug, ignition coil, fuel line, oil change, new gas, still no start. About 2 months ago I pulled the cord and it snatched out of my hand. It lifted and dropped the mower. I unplugged the spark plug and moved the blade by hand to loosen it back up. Has not started since. I looked at the cable and it didn't looked stretched. Last night I removed the motor and I plan to see if the camshaft is broken. Oh i checked the flywheel and timing too. Waiting on the puller to come so I can get the blade adapter off. If not that I'll try the cable. Can it look good but be damaged?
