Thank you for sharing this intimate and personal thing. Many women are afraid to talk about thinning in such a vulnerable way but you did it! This will open the conversation for many woman that come across your video, so thank you so much! I went through a hormonal rollercoaster, which inevitably adversely effected my hair. And that can me very emotionally upsetting, since hair for women is so important to our whole identity. After loads of blood work I found out I was in early peri-menopause and had to get my progesterone right, for some reason my body stopped producing it altogether. And that hormone is often what causes hair loss and thinning in pre menopausal and menopausal women. So 💯 YES!!! See a doctor first!!!! Anyway I’m a few years out from that experience so my hair has had a few years to recover but in that time I too searched for products that would aide in that.
I LOVE Olaplex too!! I did the entire line yesterday for the first time ever, all only Olaplex products. Including using their new #8 for the first time ever too!
I swear you would think I went to a salon and got the works!! My hair came out light and bouncy and full and strong and smooth and shiny!!! And even though I need a trim you would have thought I got one! It even had my dead ends looking healthy!!!!
That shampoo, a little truly goes a long way! And like you said I agree 💯 it is indeed cleansing enough to wash it once.
With #0 and #3 and #8 I do apply heat while they sit in my hair. I have a little trick to avoid spending a fortune on a salon hair dryer to use at home to apply heat to hair masks and treatments. Whose got that kind of money?!? So I use a space heater! I prop the space heater up on a small box on a stool to make it the perfect height to hit the back of my head while I sit in a chair in front of it. I set it on the lowest heat setting, pop a plastic cap on my head and sit down for however long is needed for the products I’m currently using in my hair. I do leave on #3 for 45 minutes and I leave on #8 for 30, but only half the time under heat, the other half I cut the heat to allow my hair to cool down because I rinse it our with only cool to make lukewarm water.
Heat helps all products sink deeper into the cortex of the hair, and that’s where the patented chemical compound in Olaplex is working its magic! I swear adding heat has intensified the efficacy of this product! After using 0+3, then washing and conditioning as usual with 4&5 and then ending with 8 and styling with the tiniest bit of each of 6&7 - my hair came out looking the healthiest it has in 20 years!!! Not even kidding!! This is what I’m doing weekly or biweekly from now on. Depending on the funds I have available 😂 I laugh but I’m not kidding!! While I think the investment in these products is so worth while, it IS some costly stuffif you want to try all of their products in the line. And I’d recommend getting them all. For real. I definitely start with 3, that’s probably the most effective. Then gradually add more as your funds will allow. I’d recommend leaving the shampoo & conditioner as your last additional purchases, to me they’re the least needed as this system works with any shampoo & conditioner. So if I were just starting out building my Olaplex kit or if someone asked me what was most effective to start with to build their own kit I’d suggest getting them in this order: 3, then 6 & 7, then 0, then 8, then 4&5. You don’t really *need* #0 but I do think it intensifies the effectiveness of #3, especially when heat is added. It becomes a magical addition. So that’s up to the buyer. But I’d definitely suggest getting it. Dampening your hair with a mister filled with hot water a tiny bit will help start to open the hair cuticle a bit faster and then using only a bout 1/4 of 0 to the mids & ends of your length to saturate, because that’s where the most damage will be. That’s how I get 4 uses out of that little expensive bottle of #0! Then I apply heat during that 10 minute wait before going in with #3. That I leave on for a full 45 minutes, under heat again. Olaplex says that #3 stops working after the maximum of about 45 mintues so its really just a useless waste of time to keep it on for longer than that.
I’m rambling on and on, so I’ll stop now 😂 But I honestly can’t say enough out this revolutionary brand! It’s sorcery!! Really magical stuff!!
Having the fullness, body and strength back in my hair makes it so youthful and healthy. And not just by appearance, but to the touch as well, it is simply amazing. Something I didn’t know was possible to get back to!! One less thing to have to worry about during this menopausal period of my life really feels amazing.

I literally just erased my original response to your comment. I could cry. 😩
Thank you so much for stopping by. Your comment is so thoughtful and so informative I had to pin it, hopefully others will read it. I never thought of looking into progesterone. None of the medical professionals that I sought out even mentioned it. However, I am definitely going to look into it now. I am so encouraged to hear that your hair grew back within a few years. God has made a promise to me and I believe your comment is confirmation.
Your idea about using the space heater is so ingenious. I love it! Recently purchased a hair steamer. I read that it is excellent for the health of the scalp. So far so good.
I truly hope you’ll stick around and become a part of the family. I enjoyed your comment so much. Hopefully will be seeing each other around. Take care.

@@matriarchsmatter You’re so very welcome, my fellow native NYer 💪♥️
Here’s the full story, it’s long but I think might help other women of a certain age too. Women have got to support one another, which is why I so appreciate your video. For you be o vulnerable and to speak openly about something so personal, that means so much to me ♥️ And I definitely will be sticking around. Your poise and grace is a breath of fresh air!!! 🥰♥️😘
I didn’t know much at all about Progesterone until my issues started up... Which was that I stared bleeding and wouldn’t stop for 4 months 😩 And I think that the universe handed me the right doc for exactly what I was going through. He is my long time gyn/OB and who delivered my children. But what he did for me at this pivotal time of my life I’ll ways be grateful for. He left no stone unturned to figure out what as going on. I was only 41 so menopause shouldn’t have really been the reason but it definitely was. I’m really not sure another doc would have gone to the lengths this one did to figure out what was going on and a line of treatment to tackle it. My hormone blood work keep coming back in the normal range, except that my egg follicle stimulating hormone (FSH for short) levels were elevated, which is a telltale indicator of the beginning of entering menopause, that time period called “peri-menopause”. But he said that did not explain the never ending bleeding, it’s just something he discovered in the search for the answer to the bigger question: what was causing the bleeding? After the rest of my blood work came back with no answer, he then told me that the traditional full hormonal panel blood test is quite old and outdated and may not be very accurate. So he suggested a hysterscope biopsy, sending a camera into the uterus to take a peek at what might be going on in there, and then the biopsy to test the hormones straight from where they are produced, from inside the uterus itself. And when the results came back, as he suspected, there was ZERO progesterone being produced. And I was also diagnosed at that time with a uterine disease called Adenomyosis, which is something I never heard of before but is now a permanent part of my life, that’s a whole other story 😒 So that’s when I got an education on what progesterone actually does and why it’s so important...
So at ovulation our body slows the production of estrogen and begins ramping up the production of progesterone, this hormone causes the uterine wall to become thicker and more inviting to the possibility of a fertilized egg to attach to. But it’s also whats responsible for causing PMS in the second half of our cycle 😂 It is a little Devil of a hormone; a necessary evil, if you will 😂 At the abrupt end of the cycle and your body realizes that it’s not pregnant and stops producing progesterone and that’s what causes the Un terrine lining to shed, mensuration. So progesterone plays a very large and important role in fertility and in a woman’s overall health as far as how it keeps other hormone production in check and maintains our normal monthly cycle. I really had no idea about any of this previously!!
But when your body isn’t producing enough of both of each of estrogen AND progesterone, instead it will increasingly ramp up the production of a male hormone called “Androgen”, and in men THAT is the hormone responsible for male pattern baldness!!! So when that is produced too much in women it causes our hair follicle to behave much like a balding man’s hair does, the previously healthy hair follicles shrink and begins to shed at a drastically increased rate. So that’s why many menopausal women, during that time when both estrogen & progesterone begin to naturally decease, find that our hair starts to become listless, lifeless, dull, brittle and prone to breakage and just all around scraggly and weak and THIN!!! HRT is helpful, and that’s actually what stopped my bleeding. Not a full hormone replacement therapy regimen, but I took just a progesterone supplement called “Prometrium” and it saved the day!!! It took a few months until my body adjusted to having the hormone added back but it eventually got me back on a normal cycle and my hair health started to bounce back too!!
But so much damage had been done that I had to find something to help make up for it somehow. At Least I was hopeful there was something I could use to bring some life back to my hair anyway. And Olaplex has been truly magical for me.

Today I still use 0&3 once a week. I leave 3 on for 4or more hours, under a cap while I do house work. I also steam treat my hair weekly and massage my scalp with castor oil 3x a week. My dermatologist prescribed Nutrafol while my naturopath tested my blood and I was vitamin D deficient - which I am currently taking along with other vitamins and minerals. Thank you so much for sharing your story! Hearing you talk about your vulnerable experience and how you've managed to turn things around for yourself really made feel less lonely and more hopeful.
I'm quite young, just 18 and I have been experiencing extreme hairfall issues for a long time now. I also have severe dandruff and so I always assumed the hairfall was due to that + stress. But now my dandruff is a lot under control and I don't take much stress, yet the hairfall just doesn't seem to stop. It's slightly less than before but the situation is still pretty bad. I used to have such thick hair ( courtesy of my Indian genes ) and I was very proud of it as well. And to see it all go down the drain now ( literally!!) is so heartbreaking, that I almost cry every time I take showers.
Anyway I've been doing some research for a while and Olaplex seems to stand out. Seeing everyone's great reviews about it has tempted me to try it, so I'm gonna order it soon. I am also gonna consult a doctor of course. But I really hope Olaplex comes to my rescue like it has for so many others. Please please pray for me !!!

      Greetings Ritz,
I hope that you are well. Thank you for sharing your story so openly. You’re so right hair loss can be very traumatic. I imagine even more so when you’re so young.
I would recommend that you go see a doctor about your hair loss. There may be an underlying issue that needs to be addressed. When I went to the doctor I found out I had several deficiencies, thyroid issues and high stress.
Also, try massaging your scalp often to keep your follicles stimulated. I massage 2-3 a week with Castor oil and Rosemary essential oil. I steam my scalp once a week and I take a slew of natural supplements. Stay away from synthetics. Also consider a water filter for your shower head.
If you decide to go see a doctor you may have to knock down many doors. Maybe an adult can accompany you to help advocate. I know it was difficult for me to constantly fight the major-major brushoff I would receive when I sought answers about my hair loss.
I just want to reiterate…Olaplex did not grow my hair back. It helped to slow down the loss. It helped restore a look of fullness as it thoroughly repaired the hair that remains giving the illusion of a full head of hair.
I hope this help. Please continue to seek help. Your body is trying to tell you something. Keep me posted. I’ll be thinking of you.

      Greetings No excuses,
      Cool channel name. 🙌🏾
I’m sorry you’re experiencing excessive shedding. It’s definitely one of those things that heavily impacts a peace of mind in the worst way.
I remember wondering why everyone in the allopathic community thought so little of it when it could have been an indication of so many things going wrong.
I hope you are having better luck finding answers than I did. And make sure you don’t wait. Had I gotten answers sooner I might have saved more of my hair.
Olaplex is a whole game changer for the hair that is left, however. I can now wear my hair down, out, or in a ponytail with NO feelings of self doubt (the wigs did little to help my esteem). In fact I even added a layered cut for more volume.
I plan on doing an updated video to share my tools and regimen. I hope you’ll subscribe so we can check in with each other’s progress.

I’m not sure if you’re experiencing hair loss or any other hair issues but Olaplex is a game changer.
Though my hair has not grown back you wouldn’t believe that I can actually wear my hair down and it simply looks as though I have a head full of fine hair. My remaining hair is so much thicker and stronger. I’m so glad I found Olaplex.
Now I will say this, it does tend to make my hair a bit dry/dull so I incorporate other shampoos and conditioner.
Right now I’m using Briogeo. It’s OK. I like the shampoo and the smell. The conditioner seems weak to me. My favorite to restore moisture and shine has been Oribe. It’s expensive but a little goes a long way. I hope this helps. Good luck on your hair journey.

hello. I'm 52 yo and experienced hair breakage due to stress and a braiding job in May where the braider destroyed my hair strands pulling hard while combing out after blow drying. Haven't experienced that much pain since a young child. Since using Olaplex mid-June, my hair has regained strength with minimum breakage. I use No. 0, 3, 4, 5. I do the regimen once a month and do my other natural blend hot oil treatment for additional moisture or my low porosity hair.

Wow…Our stories are practically identical. My hair started falling out by the handfuls right after I had knotless box braids put in. Now to be fair it had been shedding regularly prior but it seems like the braids took it to another level. But as with your testimony I am now experiencing minimum to no shedding and no breakage. The only thing I use is the Olaplex system once a week. I do want to incorporate moisture treatments so I’m glad to know that you have been doing so with no interruption to the health and maintenance of your hair. I’m sorry you had such a traumatic experience but I’m glad you shared it with me/us. I hope you stick around. I’ll be making more content towards the end of the this month/middle of next month.

It has been a long journey since having my PT and losing a gallon size Ziploc bag of my hair.
My levels have normalized. I’m on Levoxythorine 25 mg. I only take the pills 3 days a week. My thyroid is doing well on this dosage.

Now, I can say the thickness of each strand has increased tremendously. I also massage my scalp 2-3 times a week with rosemary infused castor oil.
As far as supplements I take Vitamin D, B, Magnesium, Zinc and collagen.
I truly empathize with you. I’ve included a naturopath on my journey. Prior to that I just didn’t feel like I was being seen as an individual as much as I was just someone in the waiting room waiting to be seen.

You won’t be disappointed. As previously stated Olaplex didn’t grow my hair back but the thickness it helped me achieve literally gives the illusion of minimal hair loss.
I currently massage my scalp with a massager, castor oil and Rosemary essential oil. 2-3x a week. I also use a hair steamer once a week to deep condition. I do believe that this has helped with the growth I’ve experienced. Plus supplements.
Good luck on your journey. Let me know how it works out for you. 🙌🏾🥰

I've always had an abundance of hair. Some years ago, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had to have my thyroid removed. My hair hasn't been the same since. I immediately loss 40% of my thickness. Years after surgery, my hair continued to come out. My son would ask, how do you still have hair on your head?? People who did not know me prior rave about my hair. I know otherwise. I actually was severely deficient re vitamin D, as well. I visited a dermatologist a couple of years ago,, and he looked at me as if I were crazy...until I showed him pictures of my hair in the trash, etc.. I purchased Olaplex, yesterday and will be trying it for the first time, today.

      Wow…your experience MIRRORS mine.
I will add this: When I first started using Olaplex I would leave 0&3 on for no less than 4 hrs. It did make my hair a tad bit dry. I am now using Oribe deep conditioning mask and my hair is very hydrated. So if you can start out by deep conditioning as well that would be great.
I have also incorporated regular scalp massages with an actual handheld massager. And I take nutrafol which was prescribed by my dermatologist. She told me to give it three months I’m in month one.
Unfortunately I haven’t gotten much of my hair to grow back but Olaplex has truly thickened what I have left giving my a healthy appearance. Good luck and God Bless. Keep me posted on your journey.

But systems are overwhelming for me - To many products and steps needed. Wish there was just one product that's applied to your scalp - I have locs and don't want to change my shampoo and conditioner ..... Its to hard to get some products out of locs.

      Greetings Tova,
      I hope you are well.
I’m not taking iron. When my naturopath drew blood I was fine on iron. My vitamin D however was practically nonexistent. So I am taking that.
You’re so right on the chemicals. It’s ridiculous that they put chemicals in our toiletries (and foods) that are know carcinogens and disruptors. I’m trying to be mindful to use clean products.
I don’t use the whole Olaplex system as religiously as I use to. 0&3 are the only thing I use without fail. I try different moisturizing shampoos/conditioners as I see fit.
I do know of some RUclipsrs who only use 0. Simply Ashley’s Life is one of them. She’s a sister from NYC. She’s not locked but She shares a lot of products on her channel. She mostly uses the “0” for scalp health. Look into it. Maybe that can help.

Thank you for making this video. I am losing my hair and just started using Olaplex only twice now. I am hoping it also strengthens the few strands I have left...lol If you please I was told not to dye my grays anymore and just use a rinse. A rinse does not cover my stubborn grays. Do you recommend anything for covering grays without using peroxide?

    • @matriarchsmatter
      @matriarchsmatter  3 года назад +2

I’m glad this video was able to help some. FYI: Olaplex did have a drying effect on my hair so I added a deep masque treatment. Now, I feel I have the magic potion for my thin hair. I’m using Oribe Deep Moisture Mask.
      As far as covering grays…
Before my hair came out I had a few grays. I used natural henna to cover them. To be clear henna is protein. Olaplex says they are not protein so you can use the two together but I would definitely do some research first.
The henna is all natural. I purchased mine at a local Indian grocery store. It covers the grays and it helps to rebuild the strands.
However, I would worry about protein overload. Check out “Green Beauty’s” channel. She does thorough, science based reviews.

Hello great video. I know this was a while ago, but I have a question. I know you said your naturopath told you that you had way to much iodine in your system. I think I'm dealing with that now. Do you mind sharing how she helped you balance that out? Any time I consume something that's high in iodine I feel like my thyroid swells a little. If you can share any tips I will greatly appreciate it. Also where was your hairloss accruing? Min is on the side middle and tops of my head.

    • @matriarchsmatter
      @matriarchsmatter  2 года назад

      Greetings LadySwa999,
At the time I was taking an herbal protocol by Dr. Morse’s line. Plus I was using sea moss. Because I mentioned that I had a thyroid issue the “natural” community assumed it was an iodine deficiency which is was not. So, as a result I “overdosed” if you will.
After consulting a naturopath that was actually able to run MULTIPLE test we realized my hair loss was stemming more from a severe vitamin D deficiency coupled with few other issues.
Since adding a prescribed, naturally derived vitamin D supplement and other vitamins and minerals, the shedding has decreased significantly. I went from 200-300 strands a day to about 20-30 a day. I haven’t experienced much re-growth in the areas that I lost hair but Thank God the hair loss has stopped.
My hair loss was equally distributed all over my head. I think my nape and crown suffered the most from the pulling of the ponytail, tho.
Today I do a massage with castor oil and a hand held massage 3x a week. I take my vitamins and minerals, I steam treat my hair weekly and use my Olaplex (0&3) religiously.
Do you mind sharing what you are doing to ease your hair loss?
I hope this help a bit. Happy New Year to you.

    • @matriarchsmatter
      @matriarchsmatter  2 года назад +1

      Greetings mstcherie13,
Let me clarify, Olaplex did not stop my hair from falling out. As a result of the hair loss my hair was so thin you could see my scalp.
What Olaplex did was repair and replenish the hair that remained to the point to where I can now style it as usual. It is still visibly thin but it looks like fine hair as opposed to hair loss.
Recently, I was able to get a protein treatment and a layered cut (for a more voluminous appearance). Back in the day my hair would shed profusely after straightening treatments. I used Olaplex this time and I only shedded a few strands.
I’ve also added regular hair/scalp steaming, massages with castor oil, Nutrafol (dermatologist recommended), vitamin D and other vitamins/minerals (naturopath recommended).
      I hope this helps.

      Greetings Dawn,
I am taking a plethora of supplements. After having blood work done I found out I had a vitamin d and b12 deficiency. There were a few others that were low but not deficient .
I am taking Nutrafol prescribed by my dermatologist. By my naturopath I’m taking vitamin d, marine collagen, magnesium, pro/pre biotics, and vitamin c. I took a biotin in the past but it did nothing for me. I drink warm water and ginger every morning, green tea 3-4 x a week. As well as massages and steam treatments. I know that’s way more info than you asked but if sharing helps that’s what I want to do. 🥰

@@matriarchsmatter You’re doing a great job internally! Topically for your scalp, have u tried Wild Growth oil? Also, boiling cloves and spraying the cloves tea in your scalp daily works. Oiling your scalp daily and nightly and using a rechargeable scalp massager to allow the growth oil to penetrate deep into your scalp for the win! Also, have you tried steaming your hair while the Olaplex is in It? Trust me, you will love the results. Let’s get through this together

@@matriarchsmatter I forgot to ask. Have u tried biotin oil by Difeel? It’s super cheap and it helps your hair shed less!!!! I use the biotin oil, the conditioner and the leave in spray by Difeel and it stopped my hair from shedding. The conditioner is amazing. You can still use Olaplex and incorporate the biotin conditioner. 1st I started with the oil and noticed less shedding immediately so then I ordered off Amazon, the conditioner & the leave in. My hair was shedding tremendously and I got it to stop and now it’s growing like weeds and I’m retaining length. I want to help women with their hair free of charge.❤️

I am confused I have low thyroid lost 3/4 of my hair so I am disabled so I guess I need 0 and 3 and 4 with 0 but what shampoo do I use? Help thank you

    • @matriarchsmatter
      @matriarchsmatter  3 года назад

      Greetings Victoria,
Like you due to my thyroid issues I have lost about 2/3rds of my hair. I’ve been using Olaplex “0” and “3” specifically for the hair that remains on my head.
“0” and “3” are meant to restore the health of the hair; Olaplex does not claim that it will grow hair and I can attest - it hasn’t. However, the system has thickened my remaining hair.
Now to be clear Olaplex does suggest you use their line in its entirety which would include “4” and “5”; shampoo and conditioner respectively but they follow up by saying it isn’t necessary.
I was using the line in its entirety until my hair started feeling dry. Now after “0” and “3” I use Oribe shampoo and deep conditioning mask. The combination has been great on my hair.
I take Nutrafol a whole food supplement specifically for hair growth and I do a deep scalp massage with a hand held body massager at least once a week, more if I remember.
I hope this helped. Thank you so much for watching. I hope you’ll subscribe. 👸🏾🙌🏾💓

@@matriarchsmatter you are a doll thank you all so much so glad I found this I am disabled and my $ is not very good and in my state no help for dying on faulty stairs at my job 5/2/03 I tried to understand their website crazy they have no phone number but they have a special $60 their site and Nordstrom so it has 3 and shampoo and conditioner then I thought about getting one on their website so maybe people are seeing less breaking. This picture is 4 years old. So I got the kit with 3 and shampoo and conditioner and the silicone oil? Why would they put silicone in their oil I use Oribe oil and it lasts a long time
But with fine hair a bottle lasts a long time I love average thickening tonic I use once a week I wash my hair ever 5-7 days I use a prescription oil on my hair get up to 70 shore in my scalp once a month take spironlactone 100 mg daily to stop shedding it is prescribed and it works. So I hope it does not not up my hair. The precious lady that told her story will get around and it will help so many. Hair loss for women just destroys our self-esteem long thyroid is a monster. So I will see how this kit goes someone said I can not remember it but you place on your fingers no directly on your hair and get a lather then put it on your hair I wish the mask would have been included but Nordstrom had the holiday set. I know I will have questions for you all. Thank you so much all of you for your kindness.

Thank you so much for sharing your journey Nef. I as well am going through this stressful situation. I say stressful because no matter what I try the shedding just keeps on coming. As you mentioned my PCP told me it was age related. He's been my PCP since moving here to Charlotte so I trust him but I wasn't willing to accept “ oh your getting older therefore this is normal. I began reading and found that hair loss is also linked to taking high blood pressure medication. In that moment a light bulb went off and made an appointment again with my PCP. I asked him to take me off of the HBP meds as I had corrected my numbers with diet. He said” ok we can give it a whirl as it is a correlation between bhp meds and hair loss/thinning.” in that moment I can admit I was slightly disappointed with him as he is my Dr of 17yrs and I had to bring this to his attention. Fast fwrd in a few months off the meds I saw a difference in the amount of hair I was losing but my hair was paper thin. It was so thin that if a stylist put a nickel size of product on my hair I looked like a wet duck covered in oil. I also had to begin washing my hair with distilled or Spring water due to the water is so harsh on my side of Charlotte that I would have bigger than a fist size of hair once detangling. I have had olaplex used in my hair after the stylist colored my hair. She had a steamer and my hair came out beautiful. Since Covid and the use of protective styles for a year I will definitely give this DIYS product another try. Thank you so much for your transparency Queen. Love and light. #NYinthahouse
