Durkin's call could not be improved, even if a team of writers were given the video and weeks to work out a script. The perfect cadence, he slowly ratchets up the tone, intensity and drama, all while telling a great, live story. Spontaneous magic.

It's a great call by Durkin, too. Btw, we love our horseracing here in the states, too. I was at the Belmost stakes for a failed triple crown sweep and the roar from 100,000+ was almost deafening.
The 1994 Travers was my first finish line shot and with my new Nikon Camara. I had the pleasure of meeting Mike Smith who signed some pictures for me. Later during the meet that year my wife and two daughters had the pleasure of meeting Mike and we got some family pictures. He was always very accommodating !! A classs act I’ll never forgot. Jerry Bailey got a perfect trip out of Concern and aid with the Lukas rabbit for Tabasco Cat! Yes indeed!!! Especially to accomplish such feat in a stakes as prestigious as the Travers, makes it all the more legendary. Long live the bull!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was far from a perfect trip by Bailey. He was all over the stretch drifting everywhere. If Bailey keeps him straight Concern wins that race. He admitted to it after

HOLY BULLS FATHER GREAT ABOVE WAS HARD KNOCKIN WEIGHT CARRIER AND BATTLED THE GREAT FOREGO WHILE OTHERS LIKE THE SO CALLED BEAST SEATTLE SLEW STAYED CLEAR OF THESE HEAVY WEIGHTS.
Looking at the replay it seemed like Holy Bull went out too fast and Unaccounted For looked to be the most likely challenger in the backstretch Pure heart and class from Holy Bull in the deep stretch. Not gonna lie, it looked like Concern was going to go right on by and win by a few
The list of accomplished G1 winners that Holy Bull beat in his career, is as good or better than ANY. One of best ever. Very capable of running races that would beat Secretariat, Affirmed, Ghostzapper, Zenyatta, Spectacular Bid, etc. He was a good as any.

HUH? That's one of the dumbest things I hear occasionally. The race is how long it is. The finish line is where it is. Are you saying "had the race been longer Concern would have won." ? lol. Well lets see. Let's use your logic. Had the race only been a half mile, Commanche Trail wins and Concern would have gotten dead LAST -- Right?
@@craptainofsea He isn't necessarily making an excuse for him. He could just be thinking that the jockey on Concern should have made his move a little earlier.
Ran out of real estate you say? Watch closely Holy Bull's reaction when he realized Concern was on him. At that point, Holy Bull dug in enough to make sure Concern wouldn't get by him.
