    Great video! I'm currently working on a commercial project where we're installing about 30 Daikin minisplits (about 4 different models) all w/ these DKN Plus adapters & integrating them into the BAS. The Daikin literature doesn't provide a lot of details on what to expect or how to wire them up, so this video was very helpful for me to get an idea of what to expect & the app's capabilities. I really appreciate you doing this video as it saved me a lot of time in the field figuring all this out on my own.

      I've seen folks tuck it inside but depending on the install you may not have room. On wall heads I just set it on top usually, unless there's an end user who has an issue with that then you need to get creative. Keep in mind tucking it inside something may affect it's connection strength too though.

    Dana,
    Thank you for your RUclips videos, they have been very informative. You solved a long-standing problem of getting WiFi control of ducted units.
    Do you know if it’s possible to connect the Airzone AZWSDAI31E3 Wi-Fi adapter with Daikin’s Mini-Split Wireless interface Adapters on the same app? I now have two very similar apps (DKN Cloud NA and Comfort Control) controlling separate units. It would be great to get them on the same app, without changing the Wi-Fi interface.
    Any advice?

    • @InverterAlways

      Hi Shawn,
      Just responded to your email but saw this as well so below is copy/paste for reference.
      So the daikin comfort app uses a totally different card. The good news is that you can Install the dkn adaptors I talk about in my video on both mini splits (through s21) and vrv units (p1p2) and add them all to the same app. So no worries there you just have to make sure to order the right cards. There's an s21 adaptor, a p1p2 adaptor, then a 3rd party stat adaptor that can connect to both s21 and p1p2. Obviously you don't have a separate stat here, but I like the 3rd party adaptor personally just so I only have to worry about one skew. It works for wifi control anyways so you don't technically have to add a 3rd party stat to begin with. None the less it's a little more expensive so you can choose whatever adaptor part number fits your unit best. Then put them all on the cloud app.
      I'm not familiar with the part number you reference but the part numbers I use on the daikin units are:
      AZAI6WSCDKADKN Cloud Wifi Adaptor (for P1P2 connections)
      AZAI6WSPDKCDKN Cloud Adaptor (for Modbus and 3rd party stats)
      AZAI6WSCDKBDKN Cloud Wifi Adaptor for S21

    Question: Can you use the 3rd party thermostat DKN adapter (AZAI6WSPDKC) on the FDMQ series indoor units. The manual for the FDMQ states compatibility with the P1P2 DKN adapter (AZAAI6WSCDKA). Thank you for the video. I just had installed in my garage an Daikin 18K FTX unit. However unlike your situation, I want the adapter to be the master where i can control Heat/cool from the APP. Is that possible? Secondly, I see the cable is long, does the adapter house the thermostat and bypass the indoor unit thermostat? That way the temp in the upper part of the garage does not influence the settings. I would actually mount the adapter at a lower level. Thank you in advance.

    • @InverterAlways
      @InverterAlways  6 месяцев назад

      Your unit doesn't come with a stat it uses the built in sensor on the wall head. The hand held that comes with is just a point and shoot set point adjuster. When you add the dkn adaptor you will be able to control mode setpoint on/off and fan speed from the app. You will see return air temp as room temp.
      If you have a hard wired stat. You'll need to likely unplug it as most indoor models only have 1ea s21 connector slot. The only one with 2ea is the model ending in bxvju

    Very helpful video, thank you! But where would you suggest hiding this module? I purchased the AZAI6WSPDKB model (not the Plus) and was barely able to get it to fit under the case of a CTXS07LVJU. That module is slightly too big and causes the case to have bend with a lump at the bottom center.
    The AZAI6WSPDKC (Plus model) looks even bigger with all those protruding connectors. Where do you recommend installing it? Is there a cavity somewhere that is best suited? For esthetic reasons, I really can't install it outside of the unit without it looking horrible. What would a professional installer do?

    • @InverterAlways
      @InverterAlways  2 года назад

      Usually I see folks trying to tuck it in the cavity of the unit. The bottom cavity that is. Where the line set and condensate hose are usually tucked into by default from the factory. However as you mentioned, it doesn't always fit well, especially on smaller 7k heads which are tiny. I've been placing it right on top of the unit using 3m to stick it to the wall. Since the wall head is high up usually a few Inches from the ceiling, you cant see it until you're clear across the room. Unless you're really tall which then you can see it close to the unit obviously.
      Esthetics are always tough, but it's no different than a condensate pump mounted just below the unit (in my opinion). Other than those 2 options I've also seen some folks rarely stick it to the side of the unit too. Obviously it's very noticeable, but sometimes folks just don't care about stuff like that so it's not a big deal. I would suggest test mounting it temporarily and checking with the homeowner how it looks to them. But at the end of the day if it won't fit inside it won't fit inside I would never want to compromise the shell or the unit mounted on the walls integrity just to hide the wifi adaptor.

I'm actually the homeowner, and its being installed at a luxury Airbnb, so esthetics are important. I'll purchase the DKN Plus model and see if I can make something work. Otherwise I might have to get creative with some sort of wall decor to hide it. Any advice on how an end user can get installer pricing on these items in Portland Oregon? @@InverterAlways I'm renting out guest rooms to traveling nurses and each room has a head unit. My guests love that they have full control over their own comfort. But I'm worried what will happen when the weather transitions from cold to hot. Some of them may want to cool, while others want to heat. So I'm not really wanting full centralized control, except that I'd like to be able to automatically manage just the mode of all head units. For instance, when the outdoor temperature reaches some point, all units switch to cooling. Below that temp, they switch to heating. That's all I want -- just to take control of the mode of all units depending on the season. The 5 upstairs guest rooms are on a single outdoor unit and 3 downstairs common areas are on a different outdoor unit with a branch box. I already have Home Assistant installed to manage electronic door locks and lights. My plan is to use an HA integration for Daikin along with an exterior temperature sensor. But I'm open to other ideas.

    • @InverterAlways
      @InverterAlways  2 года назад

      @@yowzator so you have a few indoor units to control lol, I didn't realize you had quite that many. No matter what you do you'll at least have to install an adaptor of some sort. Intesis has an adaptor that can help integrate your units into a home automation system but, based on past usage of these I've found them cumbersome to set up. And once they are set up it seems to remove lots of control. You may be okay though since all you want to do is switch from heat to cool. Not needing auto is a good thing as that's a feature commonly lost with these. I've also seen it where they get stuck in cooling though so I'm not sure if I would risk it.
      I think using the dkn modules for 3rd party stat integration is best because you can also use them for bacnet mstp or modbus, which most home automation systems can pull in one of those 2 types of logic. You'd probably want a controls guy who knows your home automation system to come integrate it though.
      You're still stuck trying to find a place to put them though which is your biggest issue. At the end of the day they might be noticeable but if it provides the best control it may be worth putting them on top of the unit. Shoot you could even lay them down and just have them sit on top of the unit and you'd barely see them at all as they are only an inch thick.
      Hope that helps get you closer

    Does this adapter work with the DZK multizone kit and if so how are zones assigned? For our application, I plan to use an FXSQ indoor unit coupled with the 4 zone DZK kit (P1P2 system in parallel) and was wondering how something like this could be used (or not) alongside those components. Thanks for the great info!

    • @InverterAlways
      @InverterAlways  2 года назад

      No. Dzk kits are a whole different animal. I need to do a video on them. Their stats take over all daikkn controls. You would think since airzone makes the adaptors and dzk kits it would work but it does not. The dzk stats are programmed specifically for the dzk. No wifi can be added.
      If you need wifi zoning stats you need to build a custom dzk box. Basically buy individual dampers and wifi stats from airzone to put on the system. Huge pain and totally not worth it in my opinion. Vrv is not designed to be a vav system. Downsize the indoor units and install one indoor for each space if each space needs different set points. Just my opinion here. I'll follow up with a dzk video or dzk series here soon.

      @@InverterAlways Appreciate the info. Even my local contractor and their HVAC reps could not get a firm response to me on this regard, so for that, thank you. I would agree -- seems like a big gap in features when you're talking about the full eco system of hardware + software from Airzone. I'm exploring the DKN API documentation to see if there's anything there that allows for addressing specific zones programmatically but it does seem weird that they would leave this out. I'm going to also try to touch base with someone technical at Airzone. Based on your response, I read the DZK as a specific, niche product that is paired to custom t-stats (a master + slaves) but also requires one Daikin Nav t-stat wired in parallel to be able to operate in multi zone mode. Reading this aloud tells me that the product team didn't really think this one through and is a bit hacky, IMO :).

      @@sanggria the nav is there for no real purpose other than it has to be for com to work right with the system. It gets totally over written by dzk.

    Very helpful, I have 2 units on the third floor of my home - but one question/problem. I still have remotes for each unit that are on the wall in each room. I mostly use the app to control the thermostats but am curious as to whether the remotes override the app or not...I've been playing around with using the remote to see if it registers in the app but doesn't appear to show any changes that I've made on the remote within the app or vice versa. The reason I ask is if a guest stays in the bedroom and wants to adjust the temp...it doesn't appear that they can use the remote to make the changes, right?

    • @InverterAlways
      @InverterAlways  2 года назад

      You should still be able to use to hand held to adjust setpoint. The hand held will not update if a change is made via the app though because it's send command only. There is nothing that sends any info to a hand held controller. It's point and shoot like a TV remote. It's possible you're not seeing an update because the app setpoint and and hand held setpoint are now different so making a change via the hand held may take a minute for the app to update. I've also seen in some circumstances where the hand held does get disabled internally from the unit when a device is plugged in to s21. Back in the day this was device specific some disabled the hand held some did not. It's possible the dkn now disables the unit, I would have to check this out before I can confirm but if that's what you're seeing than it's probably disabled. So your guest would need to tell you to turn up/down the temp.

      @InverterAlways  2 года назад

      @@skipnardie Sounds like there's been a few issues with S21 connections. I did not realize that you had the 3rd party version either sorry. You will need the S21 cord. You will also need to provide totally separate 24V power to the 3rd party stat. You can take this off line voltage through a transformer if you want. Then run the rest of the wiring down to the stat from the adaptor. In the app you will need to set all the 3rd party stuff up, along with fall back algorythm ETC. But simply just to use it on the Daikin App it's almost entirely plug n play. Are you not seeing it through the Daikin app, or through your Honeywell/Ecobee equivalent app?
      the location settings is something that pops up usually the first time you open the app. You may be able to allow this in the settings of your phone/device you're using to connect with. I don't think it will matter once it's set up though.
      The only other thing I can think of if it's completely set up and associated, is try removing it and re-adding it to the app. FYI the unit won't pop up on the 3rd party app until the stat is set up, so if you were using the 3rd party app that's probably what it was. keep me posted.

      @@InverterAlways Do you know if accessing the "Field Settings" menu is an option with the DKN Cloud adapter now that it can be used as a stand alone controller or will we still need to attached one of the hardwired controllers like the Nav?

    How do I connect 5 wires from ecobee to dkn plus. In addition to, I do not have auto cold heat anymore.

      You just run g to g y1 to y1 etc like a normal stat. But you need to run r and c (24v) from a separate power source. I typically take the 208 off the indoor power and install a transformer for that voltage on most models. Then land the rest of your wires. The better way to set it up though is to power it with 24v and just connect through wifi. It'll communicate setpoint mode and room temp through the cloud and give you better control.

    The app set me up as a 'Basic' system user. How do I become an 'Advanced' system user?

      Click the 3 lines at top to get the main app menu to pop up. Click manage users. Select your account, then clock the slider that says advanced user then click the check mark in corner to save.

    How to I get the room temp to display on the app? The app is working well with my system, but room temp isn’t showing up

    • @InverterAlways
      @InverterAlways  2 года назад

      The dkn app shows return temp if you've plugged it into a mini split. This is because that's the temp it uses for control.
      If its vrv make sure to set the field settings correctly on the stat to send and use the stat temp for control.
      If its a 3rd party stat you won't be able to get room temp on the daikin app. Use the 3rd party app for that stat for control.
      Hope this helps.

      @@thomasnemerii5659 ah, yes than your unit senses from return air and therefore the dkn app displays return air. That's all you will get.

      @@thomasnemerii5659 I was just referring to whichever brand stat you go with. Example if you used a Honeywell t10 then you would use Honeywell home app for control. Since you don't have a stat you will just use the dkn app and it will control off return air.
