In today's video we'll discuss some of the most common error codes that show up during a Daikin VRV Start-up. You might be wondering where the U3 code is, I did a special dedicated video just for that in a previous video, here is the link.

I am constantly receiving calls when folks are trying to start-up a VRV system and they've encountered a very common, yet somewhat frustrating error. U1, UA-53, U4, UF, all of these codes can increase the time to fire-off a system while simultaneously increasing the frustration of the tech. Hopefully after watching this video in full you're well prepared for the next time you encounter one of these errors.

First! Great videos bro.!!! It's great to see some solid info for vrv . I work on these all the time in my area , I'm one of the few people that is somewhat experienced in vrv around here . I'm always getting swamped with calls and questions about these systems. For sure. Have actually done a few already if you check out the commercial playlist I've done some setup and review in a few of those. I will do more though as I get opportunities.
I have UF-01 at condenser then all fan coils have UF-01 except one has just UF. I checked the ball valves.
Uf means that there is a different number of indoor units that are communicating with the outdoor compared to how many saw a temp change across coil during test.
If you're valves are all thoroughly checked including the stop valves at the outdoor unit and all isolation valves (triple check if needed), then it's possible an indoor lost power or a dip switch issues exists on branch box. Did you go through and verify 1.10 and 1.11 for unit and port count? If so it's possible someone killed a breaker during test. But 99 percent of the time it's that one valve that didn't get checked. Make sure to quadrupal check them all.

I would love to see a video on this as well! I have two schools that I service that each have a couple of these hooked to their VRV heat recovery systems. Of course they are installed in the admin areas (principal's office) and have been a nightmare. Thank you for all of your videos, they have been really helpful! Keep up the good work 👍

@@MrRandyj72 Dang, yea that's too bad. I have a few guys out there that have these installed so I will call around. May have to do a few using the manuals though as reference docs during discussion. I will see what I can come up with though. Likely a 2 or 3 part video. Install/Wiring it up part 1, stat setup part 2. Something like that?

Why I the 2 of 5 indoor unit of Daikin VRV does not getting power?
Also the thermostat does not have the displayed any voltage.
Perhaps the PCB from indoor units not getting power?
The other 3 indoor units have U4 error.

It sounds like 2 of your units don't have power check the breaker and the wiring and the disconnect. If your are not certified to work on electrical I recommend you have an electrician check this stuff.
Hi there from AC service technician in Australia. You have great informative videos that have got me out of trouble a few times thats for sure. I was wondering mate, I am getting a U4-01 fault. I have belled my cable out to ensure there are no breaks in the interconnecting cable and the results are coming out ok. As soon as I drop power and reinstate power, the fault clears and the unit will run fine.
The condensing unit supplies 2 indoor units which is controlled via a BRC1E63 wall controller and also connected to a central controller (iTouch manager). I guess the question is, Are there any other points which i should be checking before condemning any indoor unit PCB or outdoor unit PCB?
Are there any points on the indoor PCB that i should be testing resistance of? I look forward to your reply and any further helpful videos that can assist while working on daikin vrvs. Thank you.
I forgot to mention that this fault only occurs every couple of weeks. Let me know what you think.
Are the 2 indoor units connected to a single stat or do they have their own stat? If individual stats, does the code pop on both or just one? What type of wire did you run? 18/2 stranded non shielded? Intermittent u4 are almost always from interference because com was ran with or close to line voltage wiring, loose connection, someone shutting off power to a head, etc. At least from what I've seen a random u4 that occurs every few weeks is not usually a board issue. I would check next time it occurs if one of the units power was shut off. U4-01 specifically the 01 portion implies there is a loss of com from indoor to outdoor. So every so often something is breaking that com. Usually one of the things I mentioned above. Curios how your wire was ran if near line voltage or if you have a different spec of wire from what I mentioned above.
U1 power safely receive and daikin vrv 4 outdoor unit cantrol pcb faulty
U1 is usually reverse phase. Rarely a faulty outdoor board on a new start-up but hey anything is possible. VRV4 will flash U1-** check the subcode for which module (master/sub1/sub2) the error is on. May be worth checking Daikin Tech Hub app and trying to resolve the reverse phase before going and swapping boards.
@Inverter Always I have a question ...... I have a VRV 3 heat recovery system. REYQ-T ( 2 outdoor units ) and a bs16q14av1b with 3 inside units ( for testing phase ) i get UA error in test operation while i am sure all settings are right on one unit. and the other ones report U9 to me when i do a test run. Do you have any clue what this might be ......
Usually compatibility issue. If you have a vrv3 it should end with mvju or pbvju NOT tvju. Similar if your outdoor is tvju the bs box you have should end in tvju. There is a way to make vrv4 (tvju) condensers work with vrv3 boxes however you need a special board. UA can also be a dip switch issue are you installing a replacement board? If so dip switches must be set to properly set the size of equipment.
Just changed main board on vrv4 slave and master unit now showing LC-15. What should I look for
Set dip switches first. You may need to check noise filter board too

Multiple outdoor modules? U1 has always been reversed phase for me or an open leg. I am not away of it being anything else. So if you have multiple outdoor units, it's possible you have it on one of the outdoor modules but not the other.
Hi Dana, I have a condenser with 10 branch boxes & 10 air handlers. 1 branch box & air handler per apartment. While preforming start up I got F9-02.
I found the apartment that had the F9 error code on the t-stat. I didn’t exactly know how to trouble shoot this error so I bypassed that apartments branch box so I could get the other boxes online.
Can you please provide some detailed info on this error?
I looked up the error code using tech app but I’m not sure exactly how to trouble shoot.
This is usually from an eev being unplugged or shorted. In your case the -02 Means the suction eev. Power off the box. Unplug the eev from that connector and ohm it out following the charts from the app or service manual. If you read good plug back in and power up and see If error persists. If not plugged in all the way to begin with plug in and reboot accordingly. If shorted or open then replace the eev motor.
Did you install isolation valves? Bypassing the box can easily cause problems on the refrigerant side of things so without isolating the flow I wouldn't recommend operating the system.

You can get one from your local distributor or rep if you are a contractor. If you are an end user you need to get one from your contractor, if they'll sell you one. Some will some won't.
Have a question. We have an old VRV II system. We get UF sporadically. Today we passed test mode with no problem, We do however have one FCU (FXSQ12MVJU) that is not cooling properly. On the service checker, we see EEV 1 is not opening past 200 pulses & also one Thermistor reading is faulty. We replaced the EEV motor, & all 3 thermistors, while we had the FCU, opened up. Still had the same issue. Seemed as if the EEV is not receiving a signal. We just replaced the board today & in test mode, we see the EEV open to 465, seemed like we resolved the issue. After the test, we run the system in normal cool & EEV is back at 200. Run another test and get UF. We reset & run the test again, and see EEV open again. After Test, the EEV starts up at 260 and after about 10 minutes drops to 200 again. Tstat is set to 60 degrees. We have 7 heads on a REYQ96MTJU. The only thing in front of the FCU is the BS box, which has not been touched. Have any idea what could be causing this? I'm thinking a valve in the BS box may be restricting flow? Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.
Uf means during test an indoor unit did not get temp exchange across coil. Usually this is due to a restriction. In most cases it's a closed isolation valve on bs box. But older vrv systems used mostly single port boxes so rarely iso valves got added. Possible restriction in your case due to bad eev on indoor, bad eev motor, or restriction in pipe. Not sure which eev is stuck at 200 are you talking indoor or outdoor? May be best to get your factory rep out to help with Data review.
@@InverterAlways Thanks. Yes 200 pulses is the max we get the EEV to open, or at least show on Checker. Tried an EEV magnet on the body and still we couldn't get it to open.
@@tempengineering2016 try a neodymium magnet. Hardware stores sell them the size of your pinky nail and they work way better than the donut style rings to unstuck a valve. May work here but you may also have a stuck valve. That or the issue is somewhere else and that's why you see no change when using the donut tool. Best you get daikins reps out to assist as well.
Hi,I have Daikin VRV III RXYQ10P7W1B burst hose from a low pressure switch and on that occasion the mechanical compressor was damaged.I replaced it with the original spare model JT1GCVDKYR.When I started the unit after the replacement,it started twice,but only the master,the slave did not start.Then she dropped the U" error,it seemed to me that the fan board needed to be replaced,and then she dropped the U4.I have 6 indoor units model FXFQ50PVE9 the first two are connected for the BRC1D52 wire controller model via P1 and P2 connectors the other 4 are connected only via F1 and F2 connectors transmission wiring.Do you have any suggestions on how to boot the system?
So 1st you need to get the second module running. Was it locked out at any point when compressor failed? It's always good to check fan driver, main, inverter pcb boards and noise filter as sometimes those fail with a compressor.
Indoors should typically all be wired in on p1p2 in some way, however if they are addressed with a central controller then a controller is not required so you might be ok there.
U4 usually means com error unless it's a u403 code. Best to check all stats to see if another code pops.
If you replace either outdoor units main pcb you'll need to hold reset on those vrviii outdoor masters for 20 seconds when you reboot and you'll need to re run test.
You can always force fan too if you need to check which indoor may not be communicating.
Lots to check, it would be good to have your local daikin rep on hand as well for more detailed discussion and support.

Just did a startup on a VRV 4x last week and initialization only saw 6 out of 14 indoors, found out 8 port branch box wasn't powered but never got an UA error or anything but after i powered it, went back outside to reset and saw the ooo solid and then go out. I still did the 20 sec reset it and then it found 12 indoors which was caused by the dip switches in that branch box being set for a 6 instead of an 8. changed and reset the power on the branch box, went back outdoor and saw ooo again for a few sec and went out. checked the indoor count and was now showing 14 indoors / branch box without having to reset outdoor power. Never seen that happen before where the count automatically corrected itself as soon as the indoor issue was fixed without having to do the reset. I wonder if that is something new in the vrv 4x.
Hm... very interesting indeed. I have not seen that myself either.
if i hadn't caught the ooo come up on its own I wouldn't have thought to recheck the count, was only like 2-3 min after BBox was powered it had corrected itself. Thanks for the videos, learned a lot of good tips

We turned on VRV4 with 4 single BS boxes and 10 air handlers. I received a F9-05 error code stating an EV valve circuit open (common wire) in a BS box. How can I determine which box is giving me the issue?
Oh man that's a good one. Subcooling eev head probably popped off during shipping. Or came unplugged. You'll need to manually check each box. First check that all eev's are physically connected to each box that's easy just open the electrical cover. If all are connected then comes the pain, pop the top of each box one at a time and check for any that came loose or fell off completely. No tricks for this one unfortunately.
@@InverterAlways went back to the job yesterday. Found from shopping one of the harness was disconnected from EEV plug. Glad it was somethign as simple. Walls were fully closed off already. So if it were to get more involved would been a nightmare. Glad it was just this. By the way, just want say Your content is great. Thank you for all your help. Really helps a lot. Ran into a situation where I had one Nav controller, controlling 2 FTXQ, field settings had to be change because if you were to run in test mode, it immediately fails from a return air thermistor failure. Believe it was you need to tell Nav controller to be controlled by Nav controller thermistor only and also that it will be controlling multiple zones. Found on one of your videos and glad I watched it when I came across the problem. I was able to figured that one out quickly. It’s things like this that is great to come across and tackle the problem. Thank you once again.

I replaced outdoor pcb of 5tr floor stand daikin aircon but after replacing the old pcb.
error appears on wired remote A0-11.
what is that mean?
do you have idea on that?
A0 is typically a t1t2 contact. You may need to set field settings again if you replaced the board. Depending on what's connected to t1t2 will determine what setting to choose. Your other field settings will also need to be set. I did a series on this in the nav controller series and vrvs series check it out.
@@InverterAlways i've checked the diagram of indoor but there is nothing there that connected in T1 and T2.
It's only the wired controll connected in P1 and P2.
by the way the unit is single split floor std.

Dana, I am conducting a new start up on a VRV system. Once test mode is ran, it will pass T01-T03. Approximately halfway thru T03 it will fail and code display UA-53. Which is the dipswitch settings within the BS box. However dipswitches have been verified and all units are powered up and 16DC control provided. Any other suggestion?
What size bs box(s)?
Did you do mode 1 setting 10 and setting 11 from outdoor pcb to verify units talking before starting test?
6 or 10 port? DS24 of the last board on. Counts done? Valves open?
Having the same exact issue, did mode 1-10&11 all checks out. 15 min initialization check is good but as soon as I do test op. I throw UA-53 during to2.

Hey guys. Sorry I never got the notification of replies.
My resolution- The controls termination within one of ports “A,B,C” so on was terminated incorrectly. I had one fcu that was used as a hoist unit temporarily. The unit was installed however it was never powered up so the system never recognized the fcu. The FCU was to be powered up at a later time and the auto address/ test mode to be done once it was ready to be added to system.
The hoist unit/FCU that was off and had been swapped with a port that was powered and to be used.
So you may have a unit that is off and the comms wire within BS may be swapped with a port that is on
Hey mate, any ideas on “in safe mode-controller failure” on a new ITM?
When you power it on it says it's in safe mode? I've never seen this before. Probably best to contact the factory on this one. Curious what you find out plz keep me posted. Out of curiosity is this popping up while trying to update the software version or something or just brand new power up and booting to safe mode? What's the power supply voltage?
@@InverterAlways Will do. Yeah on power up. It alarms with an orange alert rather than yellow, displaying “in safe mode, controller failure” when you click on it. I tried to version up from USB with a pre programmed management point list. It got to about 98% then failed. Same fault again on reboot but strangely my management points were there, and worked too (including interlocks and some Wago).

@@InverterAlways Hey Dana, so it turns out this phenomena is SD card related. In my case, the card had ejected from its slot causing the fault, so this would be the first thing to check should anyone see this fault in future. If that doesn’t work, order new SD card from Daikin.

Dana, I have been starting up a REY system that when it runs it’s test mode it stops at t04 with a UF-01 code. Isolation valves are not being used. EEVs have been verified in BS boxes and AHUs. System is communication with all BS and AHUs. Please advice what possible issue it could be? Possible bad PCB board ?
Outdoor unit stop valves open?
@@InverterAlways yes they are. The BS boxes being used are single port 36. The dipswitch off is #3 only.
It’s a Heat Recovery system.
@@arnoldgamez4825 I understand that. At each outdoor unit there is a set of service ports. Are they open?
You said you didn't use any isolation valves so I assume there should be no reason you have a restriction at a branch box. The only other valves then are the service ports at the outdoor units. UF pops 99 percent of the time when during test, one or more indoor units does not see any temp change across the coil. Usually it's a closed valve. If not, a kink in your line set. I would start with the easier check and make sure outdoor service ports are opened up.

Hi sir just wanna ask you something.
Got this VRV 3 single outdoor unit that drives 3 FCU.
the unit was never use cause of pandemic for a year over .Then it has an error U4 ,i found out that the Condenser breaker was tripped.
i made ground testing and turn the breaker On.
i press the reset button for 10 seconds but only condenser fan kicks in, the compressor did not but it has no error anymore.
Do i need to pre heat the outdoor unit or there is something lacking that i have to do.
Hope you can give me advise
If there are no errors you need to ensure the outdoor is communicating with the indoors since you readdressed the system. Go through indoor count to verify it sees all 3 heads. Then make a call for heat or cool. If outdoor temp is above 78.8F it will not run in heat. Other than that if there are no errors the compressors should come on sometimes it takes a few minutes.
The only other reason compressor would be off is if it's locked out but I don't think that's the case here.

so i decided to replace the compressor and the inverter PCB (IPM)
If i put a multi tester in between 'U 'V 'W compressor terminal.
what voltage would i get?

@@johnnyroxannebautista2063 you already replaced compressor and inverter board? Or you're trying to determine which to change? If you remove uvw wiring from compressor with power OFF then you can Meg the compressor should get 100k ohm or more. If you do then change the inverter board. If you do not get that much than replace the compressor. Any time you change the compressor it's always good to change the board too. And double check the fan motor as well to ensure it's not short to ground as it can sometimes take out the inverter board along the way.
You also want to check between windings of compressor the resistance should be pretty similar from u to v, u to w, and v to w.

i just made a conclusion or recommendation that the compressor is the main problem.
i can hear a sound ticking but the compressor is not going through and the compressor body is getting hotter but its not working.
yea i also include printed circuit board subject for replacement.
i mean , i let the unit run while the test pin of my multi tester was tap to the U,V, and W terminal, how much exact voltage should i get? cause it draws 60 volts ac when i tried it yesterday
Daikin vrv s model RXYMQ8ty16 machine is normal but error code is not showing on remote but when I do set it on test H2p light stable up but no error is shown on remote help please asap
H2p and h3p both solid on at outdoor with no other lights on?
Is indoor stat a nav controller? If so the on/off green light isn't blinking? If 2 and 3 are both on at the outdoor the indoors should be in alarm. Means the test failed. Should be getting an a3, uf, possibly a9. Those are common on vrvs

I have a trouble here in VRV 4.
Error code LC-15 i found that the noise filter of the slave 1 unit is faulty / blown fuse.
I want to set an emergency mode prohibiting slave 1 to operate but i can't proceed cause the error LC - 15 keeps on blinking on 7 segments of master unit.
i have tried to reset but still the seven segments lights on.
What should i do?
can i proceed prohibition of slave 1 even there is error display?
what is the right reset method?
@@johnnyroxannebautista2063 you can still lock out the module. Though, depending on model, application and connection ratio I woukd advise caution running the system a module down.
