The astro rework in shb was so devestating to me. Logging on the first day to see like half my bar with grayed out skills was so sad 😭. I really think the old card system was the best class mechanic they had in the entire game. On top of changing the cards, they removed its time dilation effects AND its ability to swap between a shield or regen healer (though i think the latter was changed with the addition of sage in EW). It just does not feel like the same job anymore. I was happy to see they at least brought back the old minor arcana, but I pray royal road comes back in some way too
From an AST main, thanks for the walk through the past. I started maining AST during HW and then took a break until this year WOW things had changed when I came back, I felt like I was waking up in a new universe. I understanda the QoL changes, however I'd really like Royal Road back. I think previously there was too great an incentive to hold and maximize potential, however if they slightly scaled down the benefits, I think ASTs would be more likely to actually play their skills and enjoy the RNG like with astrodyne.
I've been an AST main since Stormblood and i gotta say. I do miss the complexity of SB Cards so much. It was so much fun throwing everyone buffs or giving that one monk gcd speed for 60 seconds. Good times

No mistakes i can see, but missing some classic spells. i made a comment with a little note about the old ast time mage gameplay style too. Disable was an old debuff spell I didn’t mention. It works almost like addle does now. Also the sects was a big thing depending on which stance you were in would change if your spells had regen or shield effects. Diurnal and Nocturnal were the old stances.
I think the cards kept getting worked on. I remember during one point Bole would increase enmity generated. I only remember this since a friend liked to use it just so someone would rip hate off our tank.
you got it right. tbh i miss the old card buffs. i wish the debs just changed to bring the cards up to be just as good as balance vs making all cards balance... the job is suppose to be a tarot card, horoscope style class.. :/

My fav! honestly, my favorite part of healing on AST is the healing cool downs themselves, there's so many ogcds! Horoscope, Earthly Star, and Macrocosmos of course making it feel like you turn back time. Time Dilation used to extend AST's buff duration by a considerable amount including it's healing over time effects. It would interact with your party members and your own abilities, instead of a selfish buff like Astrodyne. i'd like to see any kind of interaction with cards come back. i forget about the cards, Astrodyne, and Divination in their current iteration constantly lol cute detail with the shifting aspect ratio for each expansion
The editing for this video is (chef's kiss) from the use of different aspect ratios, to sound design and text warping effects. Forgive me for having limited knowledge on video editing vocabulary, lol.
I’m AST from the start and just a fun add to this is the old Celestial Op and Extend which increased duration of your applied buffs. CO hit everyone and extend hit one person. They worked on all buffs including your cards, swiftcast, surecast, regens, sprint, cleric stance(a personal dps buff like a 3 seal astrodyne today), and Shroud of Saints (Lucid Dreaming now) :P I somewhat miss the time spell shenanigans that used to be in the class. CO also stunned like holy which was fun but kind of useless.
I seriously wonder what they're going to do with cards for the rework, since having random card draws which buff individual party members is the central gimmick of AST. They've already made the cards as we know them as "simple" as they possibly can IMO and it's STILL an absolute nightmare for people who don't prefer optimizing cards or the high APM of burst windows. I'd be really sad to see individual buffs go since I love passing out cards myself, but I don't see any way CBU3 can dumb it down to their liking without totally gutting cards.
IMO I think reducing the APM is what SE might do in Dawntrail like you said that the job is still cater to the niche group of players who prefer a high octane opener/reopener even if the cards are already streamlined
Royal road looks like excellent! Did anybody not notice this? At first i thought it was excogitation but had to rewatch. Maybe they got the animation from royal road 🤔
I started the game at the end of Stormblood and raced to get to HW just to play AST. I read up guides like I was learning how to read tarot, and then it all changed 1 month after i picked up the job. I just really want to feel like I'm dealing with tarot cards again and not some blackjack dealer dishing out red/black cards (melee/ranged)

I was an AST main during HW and SB. The rework in ShB felt so wrong to me. I want to try the DT rework with a fresh perspective after not playing AST for two expansions. If I still dislike it, Sage is fun, at least.
I was turned off by healing from whm as it seemed boring but as soon as I unlocked ast and ran a few class quests I was hooked. I think the whole Star and cards is a very cool concept and very flashy, I like ast as it is nice to give some damage buffs to ur team and very consistent. Also having a dot attack and aspec heal u can use as u move around and get to safety is nice. I feel like I can always contribute in raids or dungeons. However I'm lvl 89 and just couple million away from 90 and the end game stuff I'm already seeing ast struggle so it's not a good choice to do anything solo. I would love to see a couple new damage attacks to each healer so that way if you wanted to run harder content as a healer u can
having started in EW it's always fascinating to hear about the old versions of jobs, i probably would have liked some of the older astro iterations, but i really can't play it now... too used to sage and white mage 😂 i hope DT will make me like its gameplay, i love the "time mage" elements!
I used to main AST as my healer job, but I wasn't a huge fan of the changes Endwalker made to it...here's hoping the rework grabs my attention! Also, your miqote is absolutely adorable! Reminds me of my own tomboy catgirl WoL!
Miss HW cards so much. 7.0 cards most likely be all aoe buffs around target ally, they get the full buff while the rest get half of it, even more simplified. Ability wise I agree AST is strongest its ever been, feels like the best healer in the game honestly. Mini Benediction at LV15 with Essential Dignity only 40s CD later get 2 charges and instant spell casts LV6 lightspeed. AST healing low level content is easy mode compared to other healers.
