I kept seeing people talk about Kobeni on Twitter and I was excited to see a full episode with her cause I was like "ha ha she's a ball of anxiety she's gonna be so funn-" and then the episode came out and I was not laughing I was very very sad this is a girl who basically has the exact same situation that Denji had at the beginning of the series except she wasn't impoverished enough to care about the benefits and not stupid enough to ignore the risks. This type of dark humor is very cathartic at least for me, i see elements of myself in these characters like many others do, and i laugh, i laugh because many of us had bad experiences, i laugh because I had bad experiences and the absurdity and cruelty of life compels me to. Actually laughing at your own misfortune is a way to cope with the suffering itself, not with the "deatchment" you describe. I l have been through some pretty bad things and sometimes i laugh at it and say to myself "holy shit how can life be so cruel" and keep laughing, because it's the only thing I can do when it happened so long ago.
Can we take a second to appreciate the VA's effort? Like, holy shit it must be tough voicing a character that is constantly on the verge of a mental breakdown, or in the middle of it.
Love Kobeni, arguably the most talented devil hunter in the series getting shafted by her realistic attitude. Fujimoto’s brilliant, don’t really see any other battle shounen have that contrast.
I’m not saying I wouldn’t be scared shitless in that situation and also attempt to kill Denji to get out, but I am saying I wouldn’t be screaming 24/7 because that doesn’t help and in fact makes the situation worse than it already is. I was sad when she wasn’t game over’d along the rest but then she made up for it by rescuing Denji so she’s cool now.
All jokes aside, Kobeni is probably the closest thing to a real person facing these sorts of scenarios. If most anyone was in a situation of being trapped in a hotel with a reality altering demon, then they would be freaking out too
