thank you for this! I love your posts for such common sense advice. I decided to follow this path for my dog 2 years ago (she never had lime vaccine) - raw/home made food, quality supplements, Ledum when exposed. She has been bitten many times, and no symptoms at all (we are in highly tick infested area). During the well vet visit she tested positive for 2 tick born diseases (no symptoms), I declined antibiotics and OKed blood testing for active infection. The vet assistant treated me like I am out of my mind (Oh, well) and said she will make sure she personally calls me with the test results... Results were great - no active disease. I really think many current preventive practices make our pets more sick. Time to do research.

I follow a weekly protocol during tick season (Southern ON Canada is terrible for ticks); Ledum 200ch 1 pellet once a week. If a bite occurs Ledum 1M 3 times a day for 3 days as per Dr Steven Tobin (now deceased). Test once a year.

Thank you! Our dog was diagnosed with lyme, put on antibiotics and had multiple seizures 2-5/week, beginning last February . Went to university vet last November and no talk about lyme (magically all better?!). After testing and blood work, only antiseizure meds. Seizures are serious. You mentioned something pre-existing and how one thing tips the scale. The antibiotic tipped the scale. Now on phenobarbitol. No more seizures since January. By accident, friend caring for dogs only gave half of meds if they remembered for a week end of February. I decided to test half total meds, consistently and no seizures on half meds since then (Mid-May now). Maybe talk about anti seizure sometime? Thank you for this lyme talk. Very well written. Laymen need to understand, not be talked down to. Very nice demeanor! You have a gift.

Just wondering if your dog is still on that medication. Phenobarbital is a terrible medicine to give your pet. My brothers dog suffered from 2 - 3 seizures a week and that medication never helped him it only causes more harm. Seizures in my opinion and from research is over toxicity of the liver from vaccines and flea and tick meds given from birth which affect the nervous system at a time when the immune system has not fully developed. I did much research on milk thistle (natural solution) and found it detoxes the dogs liver from these harmful vaccines and medications. I told my brother to give this to his dog while weaning him slowly off the phenobarbital and to start feeding him a fresh diet and now his Dog is no longer on that medication and his seizures are down to one a month and he couldn’t believe it. Just thought I would pass this along. 😊

Is it necessary to treat a Shih Tzu with active Lyme disease with doxycycline 100 mg for 28 days as recommended by veterinarian? I did but wanting to get more educated should any of my other Shih Tzus test positive for active Lyme disease.

Vet's are recommending vitamin E as is significantly reduces seizures. Therr are lots of studies to back it up. Maybe this is something you can try with your dog if you would like to try more natural alternative

My dog was diagnosed without any symptoms. I was shocked. The vet I chose to go to said that this was protocol to check. My dog was put on intense antibiotics. He ended up passing away from an intense cancer, which he was diagnosed within 6 months afterwards. I always blamed myself. He should have never had those intense antibiotics.

My dog was diagnosed with Lyme disease, right away the Vet at the time wanted to give him the lyme vaccine ? WHY, when he already has it,plus he had no symptoms. I changed Vets, no shot, he is perfectly fine!

Look at pine needle tea. I use .5 teaspoon per 10 pounds. For stronger medicine thuja arborvitae is cedar can be used once to twice a week, check with herbalist. Healthy bodies clear the disease, when weak it can be terrible.

My pup diagnosed with Lyme last year summer 2023. He had a few symptoms not wanting to eat, tired, a few occasions of diarrhea and vomiting. Vet didn't test him for Lyme till months later during a procedure and by than he was over it. (Suddenly one day he just started eating like a starving pup after another round of bad diarrhea and it was like it ended) Vet called him a picky eater!! He was never picky he loved food. Anyway his Lyme test once tested was positive. (Ya theres the picky eater alright). Vet wanted him on doxy antibiotics but I didn't do them. I followed the dogs naturally site and did the ledum plus herbs that were listed. Even though my boy was doing much better he sparked up even more each day with them. Later found them in a tincture form.
Would love you to do a video or write up on the various testing for Lyme ie Quant Ç6, multiplex, SNAP. I'd love to know if there is a way to know if my boy has antibodies against Lyme...

This is what I’ve been doing. It would be nice to see what the holistic vets recommend. But I don’t have any around me so this is what I came up with.
I do the 4Dx to check for antibodies (since my dog had an active infection she will test positive for Lyme, but I need to know if she’s been exposed to heart worm, ehrlichia, or anaplasma - the other 3 that get tested) every 6 months. I do the Quant C6 to check for an active Lyme infection since she’ll show Lyme on the 4Dx. When she finally (if ever) gets to the point she doesn’t show positive, I won’t have to do the Quant C6, but I will continue the 4DX.
I priced the meds for the heart worm and Lyme (so called) “preventives” over a year and it came out the same as just testing. So, my reasoning is I’m not really saving any money pumping her full of “preventives” that would most likely harm her health anyway.
I hope that makes sense, and I hope we can get better info soon! I really appreciate Dogs Naturally!

I love the info you always provide. It's a breath of fresh air compared to the big pharma that the current vets are pushing. I recently had to take my dog in for some sutures. They sent me home with the whole pharmacy. I didn't use anything but a couple of pain meds.

I would love to have a holistic vet, but there aren't any within a 2 hour radius of where I live. It's not practical at all to have a vet that's an hour to 2 hours away. So, I'm stuck with a typical vet. It's very frustrating.

How long after a tick bite has been discovered does it usually take for symptoms to show?

    • @jkid9942
      @jkid9942 Месяц назад

Unfortunately, it really varies. Plus most signs go unnoticed - just vague, flu-like symptoms. And the vast majority of dogs can shake it off. But it is better to treat earlier rather than later if it is found.
My dog actually had an active infection that spiked her white blood cell count, so I chose to treat with the doxy. A pretty benign antibiotic as far as antibiotics go. But I chose to treat because of more recent studies (this vid is 2 years old) that show an increased possibility of joint problems later in life, and she is a breed already at more risk for joint issues. So there are lots of variables to consider.

My 5 year old pup had been diagnosed with Lyme DISEASE WHEN HE SHOWED some symptoms. His limped on three legs, he hung his head down a lot, fatigue, no eating and constant paw pad licking. The pads were bright red and blistered. They gave him many meds like docicycline and Apoquel and the like. He began to get better than they gave him the Lyme vaccine with a booster. Coincidentally he began to show the licking and limping again. Perhaps the original diagnoses was not lyme but something else? And the vaccine just made it worse? The paw pad licking is really bad again.

My dog has all the symptoms of Lyme, she had the vaccination so I really think it was the co-factor. She has been on Doxycycline as the homeopathic treatment didn't seem to be working. She has been on the antibiotic for 8 days, improved the kidney symptoms but now is showing soreness in her back legs. I have been giving her Arnica 200, three times a day, should I also include Ledum 200?

Thank you, auch a valuable education. I felt that the lyme vaccine was a bad idea. Its been a few years ago, any idea how long it actively effects the system? My agile dog has mellowed down a lot at 6 years, sometimes she flares up with pain and just testwd positive for both tick born diseases. I won't do antibiotics, they feel wrong and this time I'll listen. Does anyone have experience with colloidal silver. Dmso? CS cleared my cats vomiting in one serving... I'll also eliminate bulking carbs like rice from the food I cook her...

My question is, what if you have already had the liyme shot before your dog? I stopped getting it this year. He's 3 and a 1/2. I won't let them give him any more vaccines. It's enough skin issues, and everything else from God knows, probably the vaccines. I wish I'd never vaccinated him when he was a puppy but I'm afraid I don't know what to do when I have to get the rabies coming up again the 3rd year the 3 year rabies! So what if we already did vaccinate our dog? Since last year I will not let them give him any more. The vaccines! Will it help that i stopped? I stopped, and he hasn't had vaccines in a year ? Does that vaccine to stay in his body. My German shepherd is so sensitive I I want to make him is immune system better again, and I am stumped
