Why is he dressed as the tf2 scout
Boink
I'm running circles around you!
Real nice jackass!
Tf2 takes place in the 70s
JayBee yeah real nice try doich bag
As a metal guy I never really listened to funk and disco but after playing in high school jazz band I realize now that it’s so fun to crank out some funky jams
“Play that funky music white boy”
Whats it with bassists loving synthesizers and synthesists loving bass guitar. Maybe because with either you can lay down a pretty tight groove
Seg@fredo so true
Cos that's the groove man
Bass and synths complete each other
Keyboards are my 1st instrument, Bass is my 2nd. In my first bands, we never had a bass guitarist, so I did synth bass with my left hand. That got me used to the concept of basslines, and playing synth bass trained my left hand for fretting later on.
elsongs I did some EDM and bought bass guitar, because you can’t replace that sound with keyboards. Best bass sound imo comes from a bass guitar and when amp cabinet is microphoned, not di.
No Chic bassline is complete without a Nile Rodgers chicken scratch guitar riff.
4:06 Not kidding, you're literally just repeating the word "butt" in Portuguese lol
Bunda? 😂 Eu sou mexicano mas eu posso falar um pouco de português
Se usa popozuda em Brasil tambem! Kukuk. Más gosto muito de bunda
For me, McFadden and Whitehead "Ain't no Stopping us now" has the most iconic disco bassline of all time
Andrelino, true that! Excellent choice.
If you EVER do a part 2, you need to do "Blame it on the Boogie" by the Jacksons PLEASE
Don't over look "do ya think I'm sexy" Phil Chen is a master!!!
And please don't forget I Want You Back, there's an awesome intro...
definitely should
I personally would NOT classify "Billie Jean" as Disco, more 80's pop IMO. One bass line that SHOULD have been included is "Car Wash" by Rose Royce.
5:02 Fun Fact: The entirety of Don’t Stop Til’ You Get Enough consists of only 2 chords, (with the exception of the bridge) Just goes to show the true genius of Michael & his team. :)
Gelo Galvez Another fun fact: the bridge for Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough was written by keyboardist Greg Phillinganes. MJ refused to share songwriting credit, which cost him millions of dollars. (There is an early pressing of the single that does list Phillinganes as co-writer, but he never saw a dime of royalties from the song.)
(The bridge contains much more than 2 chords)
@@IrnBruNYC damn
@@IrnBruNYC listen the real demo, Mj gave food to greg, he should stop to lie after Mj dead. Mj gave him food + a song hit ' behind the mask " but where is the genie ? he couldnt be a singer star like he dreamed even like u said he s " genius " . where are u greggggg ?
I was born in 1984, so disco was before my time. But The Nights on Broadway is such a great song. I'm discovering disco through a friend at work, and now your channel. Very nice to see this variety!
A multitalented groover! I was quite impressed with all the syncopated bass riffs Dr Mix played on his keys, but this stuff here is solid!
The difference between really good and great vidoes isnt always the content. In your case its your enthousiasm. Im subbing!!
I love your energy and all your videos. Keep it up my friend!
I had half of these in my repertoir already. Great list, I'm adding the rest immediately.
If you’re thinking of “The Queen,” they copied it from “The Chic.”
And did a great job ;)
@@flappymlg3607 Oh yeah. They did a great "the job."
Both of them are great!
And Nile Rodgers said in an interview that he "stole" it from his cousin Spike Mickens who played with Kool and the gang.
@@miscellaneous1276 The both of the them are the great yeah.
My personal list:
- You should be dancing - Bee gees
- chic - Le freak
- let's groove - earth wind and fire
- last train to london - ELO
- Tonight - Kool and the gang
- let's go dancing - kool and the gang
Actually I needed the first chic bass and I didn't know where to find it.
Now I just sampled you! Thanks!
There are Too many good disco tracks !!
I thoght the intro was Another One Bites The Dust
John Deacon was actually inspired by Bernard Edwards' bassline on "Good Times" to make "Another One Bites The Dust."
and don't forget rappers delight
Same XD
Same!
same lol
With Doctor Mix I really did expect him to throw in some Italo Disco! Like: Pino D'Angio - Ma Quale Idea
Great bass line in that one, and a really fun tune!
👏
The BEST part of this video is seeing you enjoy yourself! Great song choices :)
should I SLAP like?
damn right!
In b4 69 likes
Bare head reveal at 1,000,000 likes!
I wouldn’t have recognised Stayin’ Alive from the bass riff because the guitar part is the memorable bit there
At least for me
Man you do really make my day with your videos, you don't just play some of my favorite music from the 80s/90s like disco and funky but you also play it so very damn well and, man, keyboards, bass guitar... are you related to Mike Oldfield???
Keep up and thank you for your great videos
Giovanni
You’re almost Mark King ! Great to see you doing this. Every new vid from you I’ll keep and watch in the evening and cannot sit still :)
Hahaha!! Thanks
No 9: Stomp! Brothers Johnson
Yes, Louis Johnson!
Nice work, some classics to work on here - thanks Ace!
Love it! Dude, you are so infectious, you just seem to have so much fun with this stuff :) 😂👏👏
Just as I was going to ask about Billie Jean's inconspicuous synth bass, you deliver. Great stuff, gotta love me a good jazz bass too!
Oh yeah yeah!
Dr Mix bass player - new respect
btw that Jazz neck could do with a nice drink of linseed oil.
Go on give her a treat ...
Oh Chic are my favourite too, can’t love Claudio more, want to hear him play all day
4:01 That 2 note Disco line is why I came here. 😂😂😂😂😂. It was just in my head this morning, and I said to myself,
"I wonder how that goes". So I came to RUclips. Lol! Thanks.
Your videos are as informative as they are entertaining. 🙏
I like how dedicated you are to your job. Keep up the good work
Just got back into playing bass loving these!
I’ve been thinking more about The Sugarhill Gang rather than Queen.
Omar Hakim "the drum machine" behind "The chic".
One of the most underrated drummers in history.
Jerónimo Rodríguez wasn’t it Tony Thompson? I agree that he was the most underrated drummer. So tight and in the pocket!!
@@Sumbibebe Right ! I I'm a big fan of Tony (and Nile & Bernard of course) But Omar also played live with Chic
My god i loved this video!! Ur an inspiration spreader!!
The bass line of Good times by the chic sounds so similar to rapper's delighted
I didn't know about this talent of yours!! What can't you do C!!! Awesome!!
Awesome! If you make a part two, add the drums too so its easier to listen to and recognize
This channel is of great quality. Good job bro
I love me some Doctor Mix! Thanks for sharing.
OH YEA!!! Bass guitarist here you got my attention, my groovy brother!! Thank you for all your videos, recording is a whole lot different than the last time I did it. The last time was a 4-track and cassette tapes, ha, ha, ha! There is a lot I am learning from you and I appreciate it greatly, you are a wonderful teacher and really cool down to earth, creative loving being, Namaste, peace be with you and much love my friend!
Thanks so much man!
The smiths is very good disco music in my opinion and their bass lines are awesome
Awesome!!
Superb and entertaining enjoyable and most of all informative
I love Disco music. Could you make a disco track in your next video please.
Hmmm, interesting
This looks like so much fun
Disco Inferno.. hell yes!
I like to see how one does the "WOW" effect on an electric guitar. I heard that on some mid/late 60's music.
Everything you play are great!
God bless U Brow
Awesome!
I came for Disco Inferno, was not disappointed. Yeah, it's my favorite disco bass line.
Man, you are fun to watch. Keep it up. Just subbed
Disco bass lines sounds so punchy and fresh ...
Disco battle with @davie504. Slapp like now, for an epicc battle!
What about Boogie Oogie Oogie by Taste of Honey? The bass lines you played are great but I cannot think of a more iconic disco bass line than Boogie Oogie Oogie. Janice Marie Johnson is a helluva bass player.
so true. . what other #1 hit has a bad ass bass solo in the intro of a song. .
VERY IMPRESSIVE
Please more please!
Thank you
Pure Awesomeness
Nice strings!
Interesting sound coming from that combination.
Pretty good tone! Very warm!
Celebrate good tones, come on!
Don't leave me this way by Thelma Houston was always my favorite disco bass line. Surprised it wasn't mentioned here.
Wuaooo Doctor Mix !!!
I was trying to trace the origin of the bass line on the first song. I got as far as Sugarhill Gang Rapper's Delight but thanks to this video I found that was just using the bass line to Chic Good Times. My favourite are remixes of disco tunes that have been touched by the modern deep bass/kick house sound.
All of these bass lines are fantastic!! ✌️☺️
Great nice studio you got
Chic and Sugarhill Gang performing Good Times/Rapper’s Delight live goes so hard
I remember the disco era very well, there is a lot of complacated songs for a bass player in disco, you have to be deep into the pocket for it to sound good.
Love Doctor Mix absolute legend
fantastic
Real cool bass jamming!!
On Billie Jean, Luis Johnson would play the 2 strings only on the 1. And yes, the synth played bass like you showed.
Bernard Edwards lives in my soul. I even bought a MusicMan Stingray (soon to arrive) in his honor.
Claudio, U Bad Ass Bass!!
Love it! NEXT!!!!
Of course you play Sister Sledge... that was Edwards too! (Obvious listening to it that was like a Chic record)
fantastic, if u make another, explain the tuning subtleties please.
You play the bass as well?! I was just about to open Ableton after watching your daft funk video now all I want to do is pick up the bass :P
Dang your bass sounds fire!
like that stuff! music of my youth :)
That’s was awesome!
Billie jean needs both the low and high octave for the first note! Loved the video though! Nevermind as I'm typing this you covered it.
First AND fourth!
he didnt do both?
At last I thought you're gonna do "He's The Greatest Dancer" when you said "Sister Sledge"
Einfach so gut wie er sich immer feiert😀 wie immer top video!
Check out the bass line in Duran Duran's Sound of thunder. (John Taylor was a student of Bernard Edwards btw
😲!! Hilarious go pro on both ends too ! Lol cool
A beautiful talent Fratelo
Greetings from Guatemala City. The heart of the mayan world!!!
Dr mix thank you thank you thank you what a change can you slap like Mark King ?
Enjoy the synth vids more but this is great!
The original bass player for Billie Jean (Louis Johnson) did actually play the octave F# until the verse starts where the synth bass takes over
You are a master of instruments
I wasn't thinking Queen on that Good times riff, I was thinking "Rapper's Delight" from the Sugar Hill Gang...
Rapper's Delight is technically disco
@@aristotleasparaguspodcast1129 True and the video is about famous disco basslines.
As a bass player, I just have to SLAPP like on here! Now SLAP the bass! Don't just fingerpick it! Although, I will say that your bass skills are probably much better than my synth/keyboard playing skills. However, after watching all your videos, you've inspired me indeed! Thanks DrMix!
grass grows, the sun shines, and brother, i lay it down
You're right about Billie Jean. It's all about that transition from traditional bass guitar to analogue synths in the late 70's early 80's. Billie Jean was a superb example of that. I was in a band that did a version of it - not an easy tune to cover I can tell you! Awesome. (Oh, not sure whether it's a classic disco track like Chic, but it's close enough! :0)
I never knew you played bass nice one 👍🏻
Haha wow the very first one is what I had in mind when I saw the thumbnail 😂
