      Ego is part and parcel and "ego" isn't any term. Confidence is. Proficiency is. "Ego" is some guy jacking off so that others have nothing to jump on, thus bass nor any other rhythm cannot be established.

      Literally every single comment here sounds like narrow minded elitist bullshit. Like honestly why can't people appreciate new styles of music? I mean, I love listening to hard bop but on the other side I still think RHCP would suck if Flea played some standard rhythm stuff. So why do people think there's only one right way? Most of the time the suckers with the biggest egos are guitarists! Look at Flea, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Richard Bona, all of those seem pretty humble and nice to me. They just have another playstyle.

    Why so many thumbs down? This is free education - a free "gold mine."
    Until a few years ago, many bassists would have to spend plenty money for this kind of instruction. Here, you can set the video at half speed if you have problems imitating these lines.
    If you don't like his song choices, then you should put together a video of YOUR 30 favorite Motown bass riffs. Hint: It takes a lot of time and work.

    Great primer on the greatest era of bass playing. One comment, just FYI. The bass in Shotgun
    is not a bass guitar, but the organist playing bass pedals. Jr.'s band was just four pieces: guitar,
    drums, Hammond Organ, and Jr. on sax and vocals. There are live clips of him from the 60's
    and playing Shotgun, specifically. All on RUclips.

      how can you tell a brand name of strings by looking at them xD

    • @67Stu
      @67Stu 8 лет назад +28

      +Jacob Cousins
      Ah! Good question. For One thing, I'm a vintage string collector. I have stings going back to probably just after WWII.
      LaBella flat wound bass strings have a distinctive thread winding around the end of the string that raps around the tuning post; furthermore, each gauge has a specific color: orange for light; black for standard; blue for medium; lighter blue for original 1954 (or heavy enough to be building beams).
      Jack Bruce used lights on his Gibson EB-3 with Cream. Paul McCartney sometimes used them on his Hofner. Donald Duck Dunn, James Jamerson, Bob Babbit, and many others. John Entwistle even used them before he connected with Rotosound. contrary to popular myth, the final and released take of "My Generation" was done on a 1965 Fender Jazz Bass with "building beam" LaBella flats.
      Have fun!

    • @lorentzlossius3501
      @lorentzlossius3501 8 лет назад +29

      Three things:
      First: All caps
      Second: Slap is both awsome (in my opinoin) and really challenging and is really hard to master, so you can always learn something new
      Third: if your so tired of slap, why do you even listen to it?

    • @LJPV777
      @LJPV777 7 лет назад +15

      +Lorentz Lossius Slap is a whole other world of playing but unfortunately it's overdone to the extreme on RUclips. Almost unavoidable if you're looking at gear demos where people will just avoid playing fingerstyle AND with a pick, which gives a really one-sided view of any pedal/amp/bass/etc...

    • @joelborden3242
      @joelborden3242 7 лет назад +5

      Three things:First: It's his opinion of slap bassSecond: He was complimenting the style of the player and you are off topic in criticizing his opinion.Third: He isn't listening to slap bass. This video is demonstrating finger style.

    • @robfromthewest7805

      longjonh I put them on an inexpensive bass (fender milestone). The action became quite high. I adjusted the truss rod a quarter turn every two days and it straightened up nicely after about 6 quarter turns. I now have just over 4 mm at E string fret 12. That was about two months ago and so far so good. It must be said that another bass may have a different outcome.

    • @carterc9171
      @carterc9171 5 лет назад +3

      Griffin Hussong I don’t hear a ton of fret clack. Plus, it’s kind of unavoidable, you listen to any isolated bass track and you’re bound to hear unwanted noise.
