If you are new here we are Caroline and Pete, and in 2021, after 10 years living in Texas, we sold up and moved back home to the UK to live full time aboard a 60ft narrowboat, One Day More, with our West Highland Terriers! He really is living his dream James, and it’s lovely to see (and hear!). Poppy in particular loves being up there on the back keeping a look out for everyone and everything! Hamish is happy just to sleep by his Dad’s feet while we are cruising. It was wonderful travelling with Paul and Anthony, as they are such good company, and it really does make a huge difference getting through the locks with extra people. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video 😊

Hi Spinner! The sun is shining here today. That’s 2 days of sunny weather, but of don’t want to jinx it! I’m taking Poppy for a long walk down the towpath to mail a birthday card while old boy Hamish stays behind with his Dad to touch up some knocks and scrapes on the boat. Have a lovely Sunday 😊

You’re so right Tom! We were laughing as we watched this video prior to publishing, remembering how that became Pete’s mantra on our travels with the boys! ‘Not much further’ ‘Only a couple more locks’ but we learned not to believe a word he said 😂😂
Now all I can think about is cake 😂 I baked cookies yesterday but that Mars bar cake sounded crazy good!

Hi and thank you for your videos. It's amazing you mentioning your son Alex was an entertainer on the Spirit Of Adventure. We set sail on that ship on 19th March 2024 going to Norway. It seemed a happy ship to work on and I wish him all the best in his career.
How wonderful! Alex absolutely loved his time aboard that beautiful ship, and you’re right, it was a very happy place to work. The production cast were all so close. Not sure if you saw any of the shows, but the West End to Broadway show was his favourite to perform, even though it was hectic with all the costume changes! During his contract I think he went to various ports in Norway and loved kayaking in the fjords. He’s excited to be returning to the same ship for their winter turnaround of cast at the end of this year 😊
@onedaymoreaboard Yes, we did the shows and have to say West End to Broadway was one of the best. Our cruise to see the Northern Lights was our first one with SAGA and the atmosphere onboard so much we will be doing more. Will look out for Alex now.
We were lucky to go on board and have lunch with Alex in the beautiful dining room when he was in port on a few occasions. They have a rotation of crew that have to stay on board when in port, to maintain a minimum staffing level, but we enjoyed getting to see his new home. One time we were even able to sit in on one of their show rehearsals which was wonderful. He will be on board the S of A again January 2025 to July 2025.
@onedaymoreaboard We are looking at Spanish and Moroccan Delights next year, so hopefully will see him.
Oh yes, you will see Alex then! Morocco will be a first for him 😊

Sigh, I'm a diabetic so cake slices are rare and tiny. Spring has come to the far North. Went from 0C to now 29C in a Week. Still gets close to 0C at night. No green leaves yet ,,,,,soon though. Thanks for taking us along. PS Rivers are still covered with ice.

Hello, coming to you from the first town off of the Oregon Trail that was the capital at one point in Eastern Oregon… Starting off with the coronation I re-watched it again last night, and why not I’m almost 50% British and a lot it was just too ironic that this video was on coronation Day… I decided to watch it as as I have been inundating myself with Megan and Harry, don’t get me started!
Anyway, I digress… I love the artwork paint in Leicester, what a great way to turn it around as I am huge in economic development and a Planning Commissioner. We love the picture of the narrow boat the best I mean why not it’s on the canal, way too turn graffiti into art! Thank you Caroline for all the things you say as you are going through these towns on the meandering way to where you’re going… Have a blessed day!❤
Hi Sam! I was getting nostalgic all over again watching the coronation. That almost a year has flown by! I have so many American friends that know far more about the royal family than I do! Wasn’t that street art just wonderful. Certainly brightens up some otherwise derelict and grim areas. It was just sad to see that some ‘artists’ like to spray their tags over other people’s works of art. 😊
I know it’s just saddens you really… The people that are doing the art were given the permission to do so the people that do the graffiti or not. In my town of Union Oregon we have a couple that were put on the wall from way back in the day one you can clearly see it says Rexall cause it’s the Rexall drugstore which really it’s vacant right now which is really sad because he decided not to be the pharmacist anymore. He’s a real estate agent in town, which is good since I gave my real estate license up the other is a horse because the building I can’t remember what it was and I don’t think anyone else really can either unless they lived here from the get-go… I bet our outgoing county commissioner who was born and raised in this town knows I’ll have to ask her. You’re almost at even though I have seen your boat show one which was good thank you for touring the boats. I can’t wait to see the next one next week, it was that your son came to visit and he is playing a main character again how fabulous and to be on a boat I should say a cruise ship not just any boat. Had a chuckle when you said you took your son to get kitted out for going to work on a cruise ship been there done it got the t shirt took my son to get kitted out before he went on a cruise ship to work ( that’s what us mums do) he’s a entertainer as well .

You know exactly what I mean then Catriona! It was a very specific packing list, with no logos allowed on shoes etc! He has another contract coming up on the same ship, but at least we know exactly what to expect this time, and he knows what to pack! He loves the cruise life, as I’m guessing your son does too. He then did a years contract as a singer dancer in Japan with universal studios before he came home to do his masters in musical theatre and drama at the Royal conservatoire of Scotland.
Since the he did tours of scooping doo the musical lol and avenue Q in the uk.
Now lives in Canada has done jersey boys and mama Mia and some straigh5 plays over there.
But is now concentrating on film and tv has had several parts so really proud of him.
How fabulous! Isn’t it great to see them follow their dreams and achieve it!! It’s such a hard industry to be in. Alex graduated in the USA right into the middle of the Covid mess of theatre. He managed to book quite a few regional shows that first year and then moved to the UK as we had moved back. He landed his first cruise contract and had decided that’s what he wants to do for now, while he has no ties and can just save, save , save, but who knows what the future holds! 😊

As I watched Poppy's customary attention to every detail, it made me wonder: does Poppy have any thoughts on her dual citizenship? Who doesn’t love cake Leigh! Or an excellent slice of Key Lime Pie! That was my dessert of choice in Texas! I think Poppy has adapted well to her British life! Although I’m sure she would love to run amongst the heather up in the Scottish Highlands as did her ancestors! Just after we left Houston, a lovely little British grocery store opened in Friendswood. Bad timing, but it saved my wallet for sure. We used to drive up to the British Isles shop in Rice Village for a few treats from home every now and again. Have you ever been there? Hope you are well 😊
Do you save your black and white stills? Some of them are real good. It could make a good picture book of the canals!

That cake was definitely worth the trip! We are not really city lovers either. We far prefer mooring up in the middle of nowhere with beautiful countryside views 😊
Another nice trip on the canal. The town of Leicester was strange with all the graffiti, but the artwork was nice. Enjoyed seeing Anthony back with Paul making it easier to get through the locks.

That cake shop was one of the best we went to wasn’t it! Such a great concept with the art classes etc. City cruising is definitely different. Loved all the street art ❤️🍰

We were laughing when I cut those huge pieces of cake into ‘bit-sized’ chunks that were still enormous! Travelling with the boys definitely wasn’t good for our waistlines, but we enjoyed every minute 😂❤️

He loves that new backpack Susan. We weren’t too sure but thought we’d give it a go and from the first time trying it out for size he let his put him in it without any sort of struggle at all. I’m sure if he could smile he would be smiling in there! That cake was delicious, but we really should be looking out for more salad on our travels. Our waistlines would prefer it for sure 😂😊

Our very first ever trip was from Market Harborough to Leicester and back after going up and down Foxton. The locks between Foxton and Leicester were exhausting, but worth the adventure. We spent the night about halfway and there was a huge all night party with loud music at a farm not far away. It ended about 2 in the morning. What a night. We also fouoed our prop in the city b efore we turned around. It was my first trip down a weed hatch.
Glad we could bring back some lovely memories! Market Harborough is such a lovely town, we really enjoyed our time there. Infact we’re are heading back in that direction at the end of June as we have booked to have our boat blacked near there. We had that same experience with an all night party going on that we could hear across the fields but it was at Napton on the South Oxford. But know exactly what you mean! And we thought it was such a peaceful mooring before that started! Thanks for watching 😊

I watched the coronation on this very goggle box with the aid of a large white freshly ironed handkerchief.
That is perfect! I remember watching William and Kate’s wedding very early in the morning when we were in Texas, but with some very inaccurate American commentary! I loved editing this video and reliving that very emotional moment of the crown being placed on King Charles’ head. 😊

Hi just came across you video loved it what a nice trip you took on your narrowboat, and what a life this would be to live on and be able to tour around to see all the sights . I am in Ontario Canada . I am looking for a Tiny home on wheels hopefully to be able to travel about . Those goodies looked supherb . Most of the graffiti was gorgeous, But so sad some areas were damaged by the not so nice what a shame . Amazing tour thanks for bringing us with you all. Your dogs are so adorable . We can highly recommend this minimalist way of living without all of our 'stuff'! Those cakes were probably some of the best we have found on our travels. And you're right about that beautiful street art, but sad to see the ugly tagging that some people seem intent on doing to ruin it! 😞

I'm curious. ...and please feel free to say it's intrusive and ignore me.
How do you see your future on a narrowboat? Your videos are surely a love song to them but is this something you contemplate doing forever? If not, how would you transition back into a shore side home? I'm 77 myself and it's hard for me to imagine dealing with locks and bridges as I lose strength and agility but it's equally hard to imagine coming up with funds for a house and furniture again in my later years.
Meanwhile, be happy and mobile as long as you wish to be!
Not at all Rainey, we often have this conversation ourselves. We live our lives never knowing what’s around the next corner, and have been that way since we got together really, just doing what feels right at the time. We say that we will keep cruising for as long as we still enjoy it, or our health stops us. Perhaps then we may try full time marina life perhaps so we could still stay on the water. We met a couple in their 80s during our first winter aboard and they were still making it work! So the answer really is ‘who knows?’ 😂😊

I'm guessing you must miss BBQ and Mexican food though. ; >. Is there anything like it in Britain? I lived in western Canada -- a Mexican food desert -- for an extended period and finding or even the ingredients to be able to make good Mexican was a genuine trial. But, of course, there's always cake. ; >
Thanks so much Rainey! To be honest it's not the Mexican or BBQ we miss, it's the crawfish!! We absolutely loved crawfish season in our time in Texas! Our Realtor took us to the best local crawfish restaurant in our first visit and we were hooked 😊

Hi. Don't know if you've been asked before, but why are your vlogs so far behind timewise please
It’s a question we get asked quite a lot by newer viewers that don’t know our story. My Dad’s health deteriorated rapidly last year and I moved in to my parent’s house to help care for him until his passing. I took quite a break from filming and editing during that time, and have now been catching up on all of the footage prior to then. It’s been a labour of love as I didn’t want to compromise the quality of the videos, or not use the footage, as this is as much our own diary of our travels as it is entertainment for our viewers. I’ve almost caught up on everything now and in the next couple of weeks will be putting out far more current videos 😊

That’s a valid question Giz, and one that’s asked quite a bit from our newer viewers that don’t know our story. My Dad’s health deteriorated rapidly last year, and I moved in with my parents to help care for him until he sadly passed. I took a break from filming and editing, and have been catching up on all of the footage from before that time, which has taken a while to not compromise the quality of our videos. There are only 3 more videos left from last year and then everything will be a lot more current. We are still living on the boat and are back out as constant cruisers now, after some time in a marina over the winter, so we had a base while we sorted out lots of things. Thanks for sticking with us 😊

And all that graffiti is awful. Too bad the city doesn't clean it up.
I think it's sadly a never ending battle for Leicester City Council, and many other cities on the network, to keep on top of all the rubbish dumped in the canal and the ugly graffiti. It's sad to see. Thanks for watching 😊
If cake is "epic" you have to try it out! The city is obviously trying very hard to negate the taggers by putting up real art. The taggers have talent but it's a shame they use it for vandalism. I think probably only another tagger even knows what the tags mean. It's inexplicable to me so i really don't see the point of it.
I like your way of thinking Dorothy! Of course we had to taste something that was advertised as ‘epic’ and we were not disappointed! Such wonderful street art, but so sad to see the taggers destroying some of it. Hope you are keeping well 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard Yes, the graffiti alone is bad enough but to have them destroy the real art is just unacceptable. I'm doing good. It got cool again so I'm trying to keep warm. It's the time of year when it is very erratic. ❤
