  • Threats of death at Foxton Locks and a huge surprise failure! Join us for one day of our epic narrowboat journey from the Peak Forest Canal to the Crick Boat Show on Narrowboat One Day More, with Paul and Anthony from RUclips channel ‪@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked‬ on Narrowboat Morning Star. In this episode we finally catch up with ‪@JulieandMartinonRIB‬ but it wasn't exactly what we had planned!
    Hello! Like I said to you in your last comment Ron, berating the music, there are thousands of viewers who enjoy our videos because of the music, and there are many, many narrowboat vlogs out there without music, if that's what you prefer. I can't understand why you would keep coming back to a channel that you don't enjoy watching, and feel the need to tell us, yet again, why you don't like it. It's easy enough to either scroll on, or turn down the volume if you want to watch without the 'silly noise'. Have a wonderful day!

      If you are here to bully, you are becoming monotonous, nothing added either.
      Every vlogger will and can do exactly what they want on their own vlogs, in case you were not aware…🙄

    Another great vlog. Love it when lots of my favourite narrowboat vloggers get together. When you said about synchronous narrowboating, I think you have invented a new sport - aquabatics. You need to find a large area of water off a river (fen?), and then get lots of narrowboats to do some choreography moves. A bit like the Red Arrows, but at about 4mph!

    • @onedaymoreaboard
      @onedaymoreaboard  3 месяца назад

    The Foxton staircase was my first lock EVER after hiring at Market Harborough. Everything was easy after that. Foxton is the University of Lockage. We learned double locking on the GU from an experienced boatman. He reminded us that the boats were made of steel and could take a tap or two. What a time saver. Dinner at the Foxton Locks Inn was wonderful as were the baps at the shop at the top. We later spent a night at the top and when we awoke all the boats were covered with spider webs. Eerie! We spent another night at Welford where the pub was first rate. This episode so much reminds me of our first ever days on the canal. Thank you very much.

But then it can only get easier can't it, and there are those wonderful CRT volunteer locks to help guide you. Very intimidating all the same, and the University of Lockage is the perfect description! We will be heading back to Market Harborough again in the next few months as we have booked our boat in for blacking at a marina close by. It's such a lovely town and one of our favourites on the canal network. 😊

    Those lock flights are quite hard work. You made it look fairly easy but there is a lot of graft that goes in. Remember doing Hatton locks which took most of the day. I think it was 22 locks. The drone footage is very impressive. It’s amazing the quality these drones deliver. Those Nicholson books always foxed me. I never went back a page initially. But they are So good ! Have you been through Blisworth tunnel yet ? That has air vents that always have water dropping down into the canal. First time we did it, we got quite wet. Didn’t have our brollie ready 😂

      Hi Alex! With the volunteer lockies on duty they always help you make light work of the Foxton flight, and with the little bridges over the locks and the narrow gates it makes it so much easier than the Hatton flight for sure. I loved editing Pete's drone footage of Fpxton as you can see the set up so perfectly! You'll see us tackling the Hatton flight in an upcoming video, going up with Paul & Anthony, but coming back down on our own, which was definitely a challenge! You're right about the Nicholson's Guides, we love using them when we cruise, more so than the Open Canal App. Perhaps we are old school, but we prefer a real book. Blisworth Tunnel is also in an upcoming video, when we went to Stoke Bruerne, where I visited many times growing up, that sparked my love for the canals. We recently went through Crick Tunnel and we were proper rained on! I sheltered on the step while I filmed Pete with the brolly up!! As always, thanks for watching 😊

      @@onedaymoreaboard look forward to seeing your upcoming vids with Hatton and Blisworth. Many years before we bought a boat, we hired one from Little Berkhamsted and came up the GU. Got to just the other side of Blisworth before we had to turn and head back. The tunnel is great fun. You can’t see the other end as you enter so it’s a little daunting. I remember being at the helm as we approached a short viaduct near Cosgrove Hall. It gave me the jitters. I would have been about 13 years old. Been over it a few times since then. Stoke Bruerne is lovely and has that great waterways museum.
      Have you been on the Anderton Lift yet ?

      What great memories! We have't been on the Anderson Lift yet, and it looks like if we want to do it we need to try before June next year, as it will be closing for 12-18 months! We have friends on the River Weaver at the moment who has said it's beautiful up there, so we may add it to our ever changing cruising plans! 😊

      Thanks so much Trevor! Yes we will be at Crick, and very much looking forward to it. It's one of our favourite weekends of the year, nosing around the new boats, buying things we didn't even know we needed, catching up with boats friends, and meeting viewers in real life, which is always wonderful! 😊

      Thanks so much Swanny. Us vloggers have to resort to clever wording sadly to get viewers to watch, which I really don't like doing, but I am always careful to make sure that it really does relate to the content of the video and it's not the dreaded click bait! All of the many RUclips creator coaches say that the key to gaining views (and therefore subscribers) is a thumbnail and title that creates intrigue, and we've found exactly that to be true! If I put out a video that said 'No drama, just some beautiful cruising with stunning views' I have no doubt that it would get fewer views. In fact I am going to do just that, and test out my theory in the next few weeks! There's a good subject for a video. Thank you Swanny for that (indirect) idea! 😊

    Does dear little Hamish have cataracts or is that just the lighting?

      I think his slightly cloudy eyes look worse on the camera than they are in real life, but we always mention it to the vet when we take him, and so far they have't suggested any treatment. His vision still seems good for his 15 years 😊

    Why are foxton lockes called rainbow bridge?

    • @onedaymoreaboard
      @onedaymoreaboard  3 месяца назад

      It's just the bridge just around the corner for the bottom of the Foxton lock flight that's called Rainbow Bridge. The black and white photo that I show at the beginning of out Foxton locks day. Thanks for watching 😊
