    Anyone who has owned a jetted tub has also experienced the black flakes that exits the jets and ruins what was supposed to be a great and relaxing tub experience. Many great comments here and I've used most of them with good results. My reason for posting here now is I did the dishwashing detergent and even the bleach on a third round, which had the desired effect, that is, until out of curiosity, after a clean jetted tub experience, I elected to unscrew the jets and what I found on the first one resulted in removing all of them and giving them a good clean before reinstalling them. I found all kinds of crud on the inside of the jets, and this was "after" the cleaning. So, food for thought, while a couple of folks here mentioned taking them out and cleaning them, most thought the tub was clean if no crud came out, and this just re-enforces the importance of unscrewing the individual jets and cleaning them if you want to truly experience a "clean" jetted tub experience.

    I just got a sweet new apartment with a Jacuzzi. It's not been used in a while, so this trick super helped. I ran it through 3 cycles and it's now spotless clean and no more gunk from the jets.

    To really clean the tub, you need to remove the jet nozzles (they screw out) and clean them manually. Just be prepared to be grossed out.

      do you fill the tub with water and cleaner, activate the system, while the jets are out?

    • @bkinouye
      @bkinouye 2 года назад +10

      @@MichaelGhysels Most of the gross stuff accumulates in the jet nozzles. After manually cleaning them, I screw them back in, fill the tub with water and some dishwasher detergent (e.g. Cascade) and then run it for about ten minutes. At that point, your tub will be very clean.

    We haven’t used ours in a long time and I’ve used almost everything so far with hot water in the past 2 days. I’ve used bleach, vinegar, laundry detergent, Krud Kutter, Super Clean and Dawn soap all at separate times. Every time I think it’s clean after rinsing, I fill it up with hot water, run it and I get this greenish ring around the inside of the tub. I will give this a try.
    Thank You!

    Is white distilled vinegar ok to use ? not too acidic for the gasket? also liquid dish detergent can be used right? or powder, both are not acidic. How often to clean it? thanks (clorox toilet bowl can't use that right)

    You are the woman thank you so very much. I just turned my mother's jacuzzi tub on in her bathroom that she hadn't used it I don't remember when. Before she got in I turned on the Jets and oh wow. The thing is her tub is dark blue but when I turned the Jets on all of this nasty dark particulate came shooting out. Absolutely disgusting. I'm going to throw in a cup of bleach as well. I'm going to try your method today. Live long and prosper, peace and long life🖖🖖🖖

    How long do you keep jets going while cleaning?

    • @AmyBates-dontlookundertherug
      @AmyBates-dontlookundertherug  7 лет назад +3

      Thanks for the great question! Depending on the amount of soap scum and product buildup, you can easily tailor this trick to your situation. If it is just a general maintenance clean, 3-4 min. using hot water and detergent should do the trick. But if the tub is "new to you" or it has never had the jets cleaned, you may want to let it run for 10 minutes. If you notice significant build-up blasting from the jets, let the detergent do the work for you for at least 5-6 minutes, drain the tub, and run it another time or two so the debris doesn't keep recirculating. Then treat yourself to a relaxing soak! Thanks again for watching!

      That is fantastic! I agree, in some situations, we have to break out the bleach. My mother recently moved into a new home, and I certainly did not want her popping into her tub without killing whatever the previous residents may have left behind. Especially since there were signs of mold. Thank you for the feedback!!

      Amy Bates how long exactly would you say is a "little bit"?
      5-10 minutes?
      10-20 minutes?

    • @AmyBates-dontlookundertherug
      @AmyBates-dontlookundertherug  7 лет назад +5

      It really depends upon the tub. If you are running the detergent due to lack of use for 6 months, just a few minutes (up to 3-4) should do the trick. But if you are cleaning a jetted tub where you are the new homeowner, or they haven't been used for some years, I would let it run 10 minutes- or more if necessary. In that situation, if a lot of buildup blasts out of the jets, you may want to run two cycles, so the debris doesn't recirculate, and you know you have fresh and clean jets! Thanks for watching and for the question!

      When bleach is added to a tub of hot water, the chemical aerosolizes, filling the room with the noxious chemical known to cause asthma, lung damage, and rashes. Also, the corrosiveness of bleach will damage a jetted tub system over time.

      You need to remove the jets and clean them manually. There is stuff (soap scum, hair, DNA) that accumulates in the jets and no amount of detergent or chlorine will remove it. It needs to be manually wiped off.

    No no no... if you REALLY want a clean tub, unscrew the jets. Spray scrubbing bubbles In the jet holes and the entire tub and let it set for 30 mins to a hour. Then fill the tub with hot water and two cups of bleach and let it run. You will see soooo much crap come out it will make you question your cleaning. Believe me it’s more to that tub than the outside surface.

    • @AmyBates-dontlookundertherug
      @AmyBates-dontlookundertherug  6 лет назад +2

      Great point! You certainly want to clean the outer surface of the jets and the holes. But the dishwasher detergent is caustic enough to clean out all of the soap and grime buildup. I agree, not just the outside matters! I figured it out the hard way after not using my tub for ages. It was immaculate on the outside, but the spiders and old gray soap scum that came into the basin with me when I turned it on ensured I always maintained the inner workings as well! Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely try scrubbing bubbles for the exterior jets and holes!
