This is a special episode, in which Tristán White and Sharon Crawford start their Balham adventure. ALL money raised in this episode will be supporting the White Eagle Club, a Polish charity bringing donations over to help fleeing Ukrainian refugees. Sharon created an artwork (graphite wash with ink) depicting Du Cane Court, Balham's most recognisable landmark, which is being auctioned off via eBay and all money will go to the charity to help Ukraine. Apart from interviews with the White Eagle Club, as well as Ian Freeman (a long-term resident of Du Cane Court, who shows them around), they also talk about the history of Balham station, Irene House, the Heaver Estate, the seedier history of Bedford Hill, and then chat to Dave Vickers of the Banana Cabaret, a comedy club established in 1983 at the Bedford pub, which is haunted by Dr Gully, part of the Charles Bravo poisoning inquiry. We finish up at the Exhibit, Balham's premier nightspot, via a quick visit to the "Impressions of Balham" bronze artwork.
