My first thought when this game started was, Naturally it has to rain for Peyton’s first Super Bowl. Then when I saw Hester’s return for a touchdown, I thought , omg , it’s never going to happen 😂. Everything seemed to line up perfectly for Montana and Brady, and nothing came easy for Peyton. From the opening kick return for a touchdown, to the Saints recovering the onside kick to start the second half, to the opening snap going over his head vs the Seahawks. @@cam-edy1294 I wouldn't go so far as to call Namath that. He didn't have the most impressive of careers outside of Super Bowl 3. Manning had to overcome the top 3 defenses in the league to get this Super Bowl. The Ravens (On the road), Patriots (Coming back from 21-3) and Bears (Playing in the rain and already down a TD thanks to Hester)
Colts run was impressove. The turnaround of the defense really showed. Outside the Pats, held everyone under 20 and of course won that raven game where there wasnt a single Td scored
Not if you appreciate defense. Bears had a phenomenal defense that year. Unfortunately the pro bowl safety (Mike Brown) and DT (Tommie Harris) were on IR.
I remember being a kid watching this performance by one of my all time Fav QBs - Manning. This was a tall task for Manning and Wayne up against Urlacher and the bears defense. The best defensive line at the time.
I was 5 years old, and I still remember my whole family SCREAMING AND JUMPING to the kickoff and remember more than anything my family with their face in their palms.
It wasn't a weird QB matchup. It was just clearly one-sided. Rex Grossman was not even a Superbowl caliber Quarterback. Peyton Manning carried his team and was going to be a franchise Quarterback. He was young back then and he was hungry. I'm a Bears fan and the only blossom of this game was........Devin Hester in the beginning and our legit defense.
Watching this after Super Bowl 58 thinking how nice it is not to hear a color commentator going "OOOHHHHHHH JIIIIIIIMMMMM!!!! LOOK JIIIIIMMMM OOOHHHHH!!!!!" every 10 seconds
Hester returning the opening kick is legit the only play of this game that I remember. The pain of losing a winnable game is the only part I remember 17 years later.
People wanna blame Rex but if mike brown and tank Johnson play and they didn’t play in the pouring rain I think this Super Bowl is a different story. Nobody could hold on to the ball.
Not during that year. It's underrated now. Had the Bears won that SB, the defense would be in the goat discussion. As a colts fan, I was mostly worried about Hester on that day. If the Colts contained him they would win the game.

I missed much of this game because of work. 1. Didn't realize how much it was raining 2. Which in turn led to so many fumbles 3. Chicago scored most their points in the 1st qt 💀
Bears gave this game away. Why did they have Grossman passing on 1st down with 11:47 left in the fouth when they have Thomas Jones is beyond me. They were only down 5 points. Fumbles didn't help either.
Yea it looked like Rex blew that game . Those turnovers by Cedric Benson , and the special teams didn’t help as well . The defense play well enough to win that game . They held a young MVP level Peyton Manning in check . They should’ve cashed in on that opportunity. I didn’t see the game because I had to work that day , but from the clips I have seen, that was the bears game to win . Rex didn’t help .

It's nice to see someone score a touchdown without them doing stupid excessive TD celebrations and dances.
They also aren't all wearing ridiculous arm sleeves, baggy t shirts, and the stadium isn't only playing trap
This was the first Super Bowl I remember watching when I was 8 years old and as a colts fan it’s sad it’s all been down hill since then
Devon Hester is now in the Hall of Fame finally❤
Manning had to overcome the top 3 defenses in the league to get this Super Bowl. The Ravens (On the road), Patriots (Coming back from 21-3) and Bears (Playing in the rain and already down a TD thanks to Hester)
Colts run was impressove. The turnaround of the defense really showed. Outside the Pats, held everyone under 20 and of course won that raven game where there wasnt a single Td scored
One of the most boring superbowls this century
I agree, the next 3 after this one were good though.
Not if you appreciate defense. Bears had a phenomenal defense that year. Unfortunately the pro bowl safety (Mike Brown) and DT (Tommie Harris) were on IR.
Laughs in Rams-Pats. This was a track meet compared to that game, in the elements no less.
@@Gatlin96 Rams Patriots Super Bowl 53 might arguably be the worst one.
@@LiamDeegeit was lol it was the lowest rating Super Bowl
Devin Hester’s 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown is amazing.
Script foreshadowing for Sunday
The college football championship game earlier that year also opened with a kickoff return for a TD. The kickoff returning TD team also lost.
I’ve always referred to this as The Turnover Bowl.
And now Devin Hester is finally going to the Hall of Fame!!!
So deserving!! Devin's been long overdue.
Hester returning the opening kick is legit the only play of this game that I remember.
The pain of losing a winnable game is the only part I remember 17 years later.
Your RUclips Channel Is My Favorite NFL Throwback
prior to this season people kept saying "Peyton Manning can't win the Superbowl" he proved the doubters wrong also L bears
Yes! Thank you for the upload! Even though my Bears lost its great to see Devin Hester again!
People wanna blame Rex but if mike brown and tank Johnson play and they didn’t play in the pouring rain I think this Super Bowl is a different story. Nobody could hold on to the ball.
Colts clinch with a pick six. Next Colts Super Bowl the Saints clinch with a pick six.
Rex Grossman lmao 🤣
I will never forget Devin Hester’s name
That bears defense was underrated that year imo
Not during that year. It's underrated now. Had the Bears won that SB, the defense would be in the goat discussion.
As a colts fan, I was mostly worried about Hester on that day. If the Colts contained him they would win the game.
I completely forgot that it was raining for this superbowl. I was just telling a coworker how Supperbowls always being in domes or in good wrather were annoying because weather is a part of the game.
It's a toss up between Rex Grossman and David Woodley for worst SB QBs of all time. At least this game has the iconic Devin Hester return.
Trent Dilfer would like a word
@@Hossflex True but he actually won unlike Woodley and Grossman so he's got one up on them besides, he was a game manager who actually did what was asked of him.
Thanks NFL Throwback for these mini SB videos. The title I'm not sure I understand. My choice would have been 'Peyton's Singing in the Rain'.
Man what a huge play by bob sanders to cause that fumble, could have gotten dicey if bears made it 21-6
If only this had been a "Good Rex" game.
Rex knew he didn't belong in a Super Bowl and played like it. Peyton Manning said that he looked like "a deer in the headlights" on the field.
I remember predicting this game about 2 days before: and it came to pass... eventually!!
I loved that the dome team beat the outdoor team in a bad weather Super Bowl, and that the "finesse" team completely ran over the tough team. Dominic Rhodes was robbed of the Super Bowl MVP.
I turned it off after the Hester return … all I was here for lol
I missed much of this game because of work.
1. Didn't realize how much it was raining
2. Which in turn led to so many fumbles
3. Chicago scored most their points in the 1st qt 💀
I was 22 when this happened. I'm almost 40.
It may never happen again, but I'll never have to wait to see if it does.
Bears gave this game away. Why did they have Grossman passing on 1st down with 11:47 left in the fouth when they have Thomas Jones is beyond me. They were only down 5 points. Fumbles didn't help either.
As a Bears fan, I knew we had it won when Hester returned the kickoff for a TD…then Grossman took the field and I was snapped back to reality.
If i remember correctly the first 6 games or so rex was balling
@@playthatagainbruh394 he was until the Arizona game. After that 6 turnover night he wasn’t the same.
The NFL wanted a black head coach to win a super bowl so bad, they couldn't lose in this one!
Rex Grossman makes Zach Wilson look awesome.
When I look back this game there were so many chances the Bears had to when this game, but it’s the QB that really makes a difference
I had the bears d/special teams on my fantasy that year and it was literally my best player
they were so scared of devin hester they were willing to just give the bears good field position. lol.
I Was Happy To See Peyton Manning get his 1st SuperBowl Ring and seeing the Bears Lose as an Packers Fan
Bob Sanders was an absolute savage
I remember watching this game with my dad & stepmom. I also remember my dad taking the bears to win the game 😂😂😂😂😂.
4:25 As a Bears fan I thought we won at that point. Colts had shown NOTHING on offense except turnovers and a blown coverage TD, and Rex was moving the ball. 😊😭
Years later you should know that’s how manning plays seems like she’s warming up in the 1st Qt(seeing how the defense plays) 2nd QT starts seeing what he can get away with
3rd QT wears the defense out with audibles
4th QT Destroys them with more audibles
Last 2 mins final form of audibles
You really thought Rex Grossman would win this😂😅
