This figure is based on the HUSH story in a Batman comic where Superman was under the control of Poison Ivy.
There’s another figure just like this one with an angry face & Ivy’s evil vines that corrupt him.
So let’s just say he’s pale looking because he was “poisoned” by Ivy & is not fully recovered yet. Why not?

I think the pale skin is in reference to him being affected by poison ivy in the hush series. But not having poison ivy accessories and even worse no poison ivy figure isn’t helping.

The day McFarlane will release a $20 USD mostly accurate Superman that captures the magic brought to life by Christopher Reeve and will look just a little more “natural” with a standard bulk, a smiling portrait, the one figure that will make us hum the theme… and is actually good… I’ll buy it.
I wasn’t even born when Mr. Reeve portrayed Superman, but I remember my mother tearing when we learned of his passing. Even after this accident, Mr. Reeve still was Kal-El.

I absolutely love the headsculpt. It’s supposed to be based on Jim Lee’s art, but I really think he looks like Ed McGuinness’ Superman, even down to his build. My favorite Superman from McFarlane is still the action comics 1000 one, but this one might give that one a run for its money.

idk if i would say hideous, its not fantasic, but when the alternative (AC1000) is so hard to find sometimes i dont think its the worst option

I don't know about the US but here in the UK the AC1000 figure was being clearenced out at discount retailers by the pallate load so I have no idea why it's suddenly become so hard to find and expensive. I've had 2 in the past and let them both go for around RRP.
Great review! The color version Jim Lee art for the card and the back of the box came with the “Superman with Angry Laser Eyes” figure that is also from the Batman Hush storyline from the comics. It was a Mcfarlane Store Exclusive from last year.

I'd suggest getting the rebirth superman the face sculpts on that toy is perfect and I think the skin tone would match that figure so you can swap the heads
But the skin is part of the problem for me

Is there a good unmasked McFalane sculpt? I just got the Batman Movie box set, those are great, but every other face sculpt I have ever seen from McFarlane is look horrible.

Get the Mezco one. It’s the only Superman anyone needs. I feel like every Superman should have an alternate smiling head.

I don’t recommend the Mezco one. It’s a good figure, but that cheap S on his chest ruined the whole figure.
I saw this in a comic shop yesterday and made me think of a Superman who's been weakened by keeping him out of the yellow sun. He's so buff because he's really gotta grind now!

I am partial to the “burly” Superman look. Like the look he had in Allstar Superman. That chubby muscle farm hand look. Or even the kingdom come look. Swole, but not shredded.
Also, what is the deal with plastic capes? Is it really cheaper than cloth with a wire? So many figures i have passed over because of how much pose ability is lost from hard plastic capes, robes, overcoats, etc..
It really separates a good figure from a great figure with that piece of cloth
@NostalgiaUnboxed yes it does. But a solid piece of plastic for a cape is still better than the revoltech capes for sure. I just do not understand why cloth capes aren't standard by now. Especially with McFarlane and Marvel Legends. Or even have both types as an accessory. Instead of an extra head, you get the two types of capes. I'm rambling... but plastic cases have kept me from getting a lot of figures, like batman and superman .

Totally agree that MFT just can't get their sculpts right. Don't know what it is. The articulation, too, has never been as intuitive as the other brands. Still always have issues with their figures' ankles. Given how long they've been at it, you'd think they could lock it down by now.
The other thing I hate about them is the cost cutting. I get that they want to keep the price down per figure so they cheap out on paint and accessories, but given how they go to market so often, asking you to buy two of the same figure with different accessories, you end up spending more anyway. Recently did it for the Blue Beetle movie figure. Just give us a "deluxe" pack with ALL the accessories and split the difference.

I can't stand that they keep using that Bizzaro body for Superman. When I worked for Todd, they always tried to reuse figures/parts or do repaints. It sucks.

It's like McFarlane goes out of his way to make sure Superman looks "super cool" and then absolutely fumbles the attempt, every time.

The only Superman I think looks decent is the Superman that came with the doomsday Batman he looks angry in that one and it actually looks alright

I love Superman but I still don’t have any McFarlane Superman figures just from me not liking how any of them look. Although there is a 2 pack of Superman and Atomic Skull that I’ve been looking at so me not having any may change soon.
That is a rare one, he actually looks good!
that's just the very first McFarlane Superman again. Which is still the best one they've done but has some dated parts (like single joint elbows).
The Injustice 2 Superman is probably the only Mcfarlane Superman figure that isn't ugly or completely over muscular.

For $20 you cant argue with this. Yes it could be better, but from this review, you can see the strengths and weaknesses of it.
It'd be super cool if McFarlane did a $30 deluxe version with 3 sets of hands (fists, flying, and action), 3 heads (neutral, yelling, smiling), and a better cape.
And some laser eye effects!
It’s plain to see that Todd McFarlane loves his Batman figures and lets the Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern figures slide. I have five McFarlane Batman figures and only one McFarlane Superman. We need honesty on RUclips reviews.

I’d much rather have Batman and modern characters than those you mentioned. Every company that has the DC license has made the characters you mentioned, but none have made the ones Todd has done. Give me a million different Batman figures and modern designs any day over the classics.

This is not bad, but the short neck peg, pale skin, and side swept cape ruin this figure. I’d say the smiling Rebirth Supes is the best one with this overused buff mold, just have to mod the neck peg. Bizarro is another really good one as well.

I know exactly what you mean lmfao! Had the same when I got him. But the thing that bothered me a little bit more was his lack of a neck so I switched out the neck peg with a slightly longer one and looks much better

The hideous nature of Mcfarlane figures is due to the use Todd’s face as the base model of each and every figure they make. And yes, even the dragons and the aliens. It’s all based on his face. LoL😂

@@NostalgiaUnboxed I’m just judging by the head portrait pictures. Honestly, I didn’t buy either one of them yet. Hush or Atomic Skull two-pack. Hush version does have the one highlight of the yellow S emblem on the back of the cape.
If you ever borrow or purchase the Atomic Skull version, it would definitely make a great comparison video.
I don’t wanna pay full price for either. If I see them marked down or clearanced or damaged package… Maybe 💸

Always wonder that they've made so many Superman figures so far, but why can't they make it so only ugly..? ☹️
I know it is very subjective opinion and it may be affordable quality compared to it's price but I guess they should think before to produce just many superman figures..
Lastly.. also hope the cape would be just normal shape..😒

He's a decent figure in my opinion, except for the head. Personally I ended up swapping the Rebirth Superman head with the one on this guy, and gotta say I feel it improved a lot.

i cant stand when flying characters cant look up all the way when in flight! im extremely pick and choose when it comes to mcfarlane because the scale, the sideways looking eyes on many figs, not the greatest with accessories, and i generally cant stand many dc characters. if this is the hush supes then he needed a lazer eyes head sculpt to replicate that one cover. oh well.
Also an issue I have with McFarlane... accessories like effects!

The face seem accurate to the comics. The problem with the face is that, just like in real life you and I mean anyone handsome or beautiful have good angles to their face and bad angles, and some people are plain ugly so theres that.

Mezco has fantastic Superman face, but that costume pissed me off. I had to swap the costume and that was a pain in the neck to do, so negative points for that.

@@NostalgiaUnboxed yeah, I had no choice but to completely destroy the stock Superman suit by attempting to take it off. The whole friggin’ costume were stitched together along with the trunks, belt, and cape. Made swapping a lot harder. It looks much better with a third party suit.
