For me nothing out can top the mafex hush Superman. Grew up on reeve, routh and the animated series with the routh toy from returns being an all time favorite of mine and i feel the mafex does an amazing job at giving that feeling of being a kid again. Really wish Todd would just get there so i dont regret getting one of his.
I really enjoy McFarlane as essentially a "custom fodder" display. I just got the "Classic Superman" and am already planning on replacing the cape, my hush Batman has been height modded and replaced cape. I love a lot of what McFarlane does, but its a little bit of a mess
Honestly the new classic Superman is the best one hands down. Best blue, best body proportions (I really don’t like the skinny legs on AC1000, and I personally love the headsculpt and it’s leagues better than the previous smiling Supes headsculpt.
@@Toygains I'm planning on that kit bash but using the thighs from the Rebirth as I think the blues match a bit better. I'm looking around and it seems I can get Rebirth for relatively cheap now.
Damn...I kinda wanted this figure but everything you've said it spot on and each time i was looking at the figure I knew deep down that something d very "off" about it. 😢 I'm torn lol... like I want it just to have but I also don't want to waste money and space :/ it shouldn't be this difficult to make a good action figure in 2024.
McFarlane has to ad his own touch to every figure he makes so that he's had his hand in the design. His ego is out of control as ever and this is proof. He knows what we all actually want. But he can change them so he does change them to stroke his ego. I have a very limited number or mcfarlanes and the ones I do have are all just ok.
That why I actually prefer the lesser known character in the line like Speeding Bullet and "The Drowned". I'm unfamiliar with them so there's zero expectations. But characters Like Aquaman, Supes etc. I have my perfect rendition of mentally.

That aside, I agree with most of your points, though I do feel like the new DC Classics figure is so darn close. Standing that figure next to the Knightfall Batman, they really look good together. Proportionally I think they compliment each other very well. Sculpt-wise I feel they do the same. Superman has bulkier biceps and thighs to Batman's broader chest and shoulders. They both have fabric pulls and wrinkles that add to the look as well. They are almost the same height, and the colors really play really well against each other. I think that if McFarlane just retooled that damn belt and made his fists like 15% to 20% smaller most people could ignore the missing cape S, cuffs and added boot details. I really think it's a good base body for retools for Superman rather than the oversized Infected body. Only time I liked that was in the First Appearance figure and that only because the barrel chest look was how they drew him in the 30's. As for Knightfall Batman. 1,000% agree! That sculpt is GORGEOUS.

I like that body sculpt but I hate that they only painted his logo on and didn't finish the belt paint on the back, which I could forgive since I could probably put a sculpted S on him and I have paint that matches that belt. The price...oh dear lord, the price XD I paid $30 shipped for the Classic figure and felt like I was being shafted a little, but nobody had the same figure for Less than $30 after shipping. The figure doesn't appear to be on Amazon so no Prime shipping to save money, so $30 shipped from McFarlane was the best I could do. I'm not paying for Superman just because it's a BAF that he couldn't sell to Target. XD Also it's not my favorite iteration of Superman. I am curious to see if his trunks work better on the Classic Superman though.
Dude. Great observations here. You’re totally right!! The pieces for a perfect Superman are all there, McFarlane just isn’t putting them together. Totally agree that Knightfall is peak McFarlane Batman. Dropping my top 10 of 2023 soon and (spoilers) he’s on that list!

I have a feeling like Todd wants to do a buff Superman, but he can't seem to figure out how to get the proportions right for a buff Supes. While I love Todd McFarlane as an artist, yeah... We need a DEFINITIVE Superman figure soon. If Batman can have one, then why can't Superman?
The day there will be a Reeve Superman and they screw up, we should expect actual outrage. I doubt it because, much like ML, there will be some who WILL defend DCMV no matter what. Reeve was, is and will always be THE visage of Superman. In fact, he was Superman at the very core up until his passing. He represented the symbol. I’m not even sure the Reeve estate would approve of McFarlane’s take on the character.

It’s just frustrating. I wish McFarlane would just make a good Superman figure like he did with Batman. Just one good, classic Superman. I don’t like any of his “classic” Superman figures so far. This newest one got close but far away. Just give him well proportioned hands, alternate neutral head, classic trunks that fit on the body, and a cloth cape with yellow S on the back. *sigh* Now, he’s probably gonna make even more classic Superman figs, the ones in two different waves, the Justice League Plastic Man BAF, and JL Task Force wave.
It irked me when they brought Hush Superman out and he was just a straight reuse of the rebirth one, don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with that figure or using it for a Superman but Hush Superman just has the classic Superman suit and the figure has the rebirth details. I don't know why they couldn't have just had a new body with a clean design on it then and there, I'm not that bothered about hush specific superman but it's just they just should have got it right and it's knowing for a fact they were going to bring out a new classic sculpt and they have now for an inflated price too..
Todd said he thinks Superman is a boring character in a WIRED interview. No wonder there's a lack of care relating to him, and Superman has not received a new classic mold until the overpriced Crisis Wave.
I get where you're coming from. I have a perfect Superman but I had to Frankenstein it from the Hush Superman and the Superman from the Atomic Skull 2 pack. I like customizing but I shouldn't have do so much to get that end result for a decent Man of Steel. I don't think McFarlane has a distain for Superman per say, rather he gives too much attention the Batman Mythos characters. I mean it took 4 years to get a more traditional Wonder Woman. Just about all the other Wondies were somehow tied to a Batman story. I feel like Todd just needs to step away from Batman related stuff for a minute and work on better figures for Superman and other character that received little to no love. I get that Batman is his favorite and he pushes merch but the line is successful enough now that he can broaden his horizons now. That's my two cents anyway.

And I won’t even buy Batman cuz I remember what McFarlanes toys USED to look like and they had way more detail. Batman looks great but the toys over all are just too expensive.
Injustice Supes is the best so far. Mcfarlane needs to work on that torso articulation for chrissakes. Also do not understand why mcfarlane never uses wired capes.
I definitely think it's under appreciated how much better the propositions on this figure are, like the main reason I never bought Mcfarlane DC Multiverse figures is because of how weird the body sculpts were. I've always said the action comics #1000 and infected body molds make Supes look like a goon so for me this is a massive improvement, though I will say it is disappointing that getting this body sculpt for Supes means getting the wrong belt sculpt, the wrong boot sculpt and the wrong sleeve cuff sculpt that came from this reuse. I do like the idea of a smiling head sculpt for Supes wayyyy more then McFarlane's execution, I feel like it would've worked better if Todd had maybe stylized it a bit more like how it looks in the art used on the back of the box and on the trading card but as is his smile looks stiff and awkward and his eyes look dead and as a minor side note I would've preferred if the likeness for the head was more similar to the action comics #1 head.

My favorite Batman is three jokers then Keaton Batman. The nightfall Batman would be third. I like the cave man and gladiators Batman, death metal as my fav unusual Batman variants. From Superman the newest one called classic with just switching to the Superman rebirth head would be great to me and the rebirth with the trunks of 1000. The gladiator Superman, death metal, vampire Superman are my favs of the different styles of Superman. The newest classic Superman head looks like the actor dean cain from 90s Superman show.

The figure itself looks good with the colors but the figure isn't 100% classic Superman giving it haves the DC rebirth wrist cuff designs also the belt isn't classic as well the upper portion of the boots. This figure is a re-use of their page punchers Superman that was a Lee Bermejo art for that page punchers comic design with the figure. The body is a good re-use but they could've easily modified it enough where it looked 100% like classic Superman. I think the best smiling head sculpt of Superman is honestly the Man of Steel deluxe Mezco figure. Doesn't show the awkward teeth showing since I know painting teeth on a smiling head sculpt is difficult especially on a small scale as well it just looks weird trying to get certain emotions on figures so I think the smiling head on that Mezco works best since it's still a hopeful Superman
I feel like Todd really doesn’t care about any of dc’s characters outside of Batman and Joker. And even then he only has a superficial “I played Arkham and think Ben Affleck is so cooool” appreciation for those characters. He has stated he only makes toys he thinks look cool and hasn’t even read most of the comics for what he’s adapting

You're spot on Toy Gains. Nice custom cape with that Action Comics 1000. That AC1000 was my first McFarlane figure and it's still my favorite Superman even though his legs are way too thin. Can't stand that new classic with the Page Punchers gigantic hands and generic smiling head. Just looks like Superboy or some random dude. The issue is re-use. Todd's product manager had to have been instructed to re-use to save on costs. That's why there were numerous versions of that infected body with that drooping \S/ which I never liked. That Hush skin tone is so off. Then the Doomsday version had better skin tone, but he's angry/battle damaged. They probably heard about the missing \S/ on the cape and now we get that humongous one on the back of Crisis Superman. 🤣

I will just say this, I have painted a lot of my figures but never painted any custom headscuplt until I reached a point that I can't no longer stand Hush Superman, Conner Kent and Jon Kent's ugly faces. I guess now I have to thank Todd to help me develop new skills.
McFarlane still hasn't delivered the perfect DC figure and he isn't going to. They just go from digital sculpt straight to production with zero approval process. He's cranking out DC figures as fast as possible to keep his contract with WB indefinitely.
The first year they made some fantastic sculpts. Swamp Thing, Bane. And there's a lot of gems like Deadman and Speeding Bullet. But lately there's a lot of reuse going on.
@@Toygains I'm not at all saying there aren't halfway decent DC figures but there will never be PERFECT DC figures from Todd. The few decent ones we got were exceptions to the rule. Overall the line is cheap unpainted dogshit and he never should have gotten the license.
Moving forward I’m pretty much done buying McFarlane supermen. They are all honestly a let down besides the action comics 1000, I prefer the one from the recent Superman and atomic skull Superman. He’ll be my definitive Superman until McFarlane can get his shit together and make a classic one. Maybe the new $40 one will be better
It honestly seems like McFarlane figures are just getting worse and with that price increase and the general lack of innovation and wanting to do better, this could be a rough year for them. For all their faults at least Marvel Legends are getting better and better with each passing year, sure a few reused bucks here and there, lacking accessories but when ML drops a banger everyone's talking about it. Also I would have loved those big hands on the new Superman for a figure I made months back.
I'd say McFarlane is just getting a little lazy and take advantage of his earlier success with the line. I did like Wonder Woman. Red Tornado is re-use but nice. Hawkman was great. But then he'll pump out some real duds.
How is ML getting better? Black Widow was they only real innovation in years and she's the only one who got it. They still using old bucks and barely paint their figs and its hardly any sculpt work on the figs. I guess you can say their face tech has gotten better on the women. I have a lot of ML and they all fell the same just different heads. I STILL don't have a Hulk that can do a thunderclap. The best Hulk to date isnt even a ML is a Marvel Select. smh
How is ML getting better LOL, they are still using those ugly ass body buck with ridiculously oudated ariculation scheme like ab crunch, hinge neck joint, waist swivel and no ball joints on the wrist and ankle, when can they start using ball joints like a real toy company? The only improvement is that their headscuplts are getting really good, and that's about it.

I agree. The buck is definitely nice. There's some charm to the figure. But I really want a homerun like Knightfall.

I think the new supes buck looks nice but who knows about the damn height.
The figure itself looks good with the colors but the figure isn't 100% classic Superman giving it haves the DC rebirth wrist cuff designs also the belt isn't classic as well the upper portion of the boots. This figure is a re-use of their page punchers Superman that was a Lee Bermejo art for that page punchers comic design with the figure.
The body is a good re-use but they could've easily modified it enough where it looked 100% like classic Superman. I think the best smiling head sculpt of Superman is honestly the Man of Steel deluxe Mezco figure. Doesn't show the awkward teeth showing since I know painting teeth on a smiling head sculpt is difficult especially on a small scale as well it just looks weird trying to get certain emotions on figures so I think the smiling head on that Mezco works best since it's still a hopeful Superman

I feel like Todd really doesn’t care about any of dc’s characters outside of Batman and Joker. And even then he only has a superficial “I played Arkham and think Ben Affleck is so cooool” appreciation for those characters. He has stated he only makes toys he thinks look cool and hasn’t even read most of the comics for what he’s adapting
Also his terrible sculpting and lack of accessories or alternate heads and wonky anatomy and lack of consistent scaling and blatant misogyny and his crummy price hiking and what he did to that Robert Pattinson figure etcetera

You're spot on Toy Gains. Nice custom cape with that Action Comics 1000. That AC1000 was my first McFarlane figure and it's still my favorite Superman even though his legs are way too thin. Can't stand that new classic with the Page Punchers gigantic hands and generic smiling head. Just looks like Superboy or some random dude. The issue is re-use. Todd's product manager had to have been instructed to re-use to save on costs. That's why there were numerous versions of that infected body with that drooping \S/ which I never liked. That Hush skin tone is so off. Then the Doomsday version had better skin tone, but he's angry/battle damaged. They probably heard about the missing \S/ on the cape and now we get that humongous one on the back of Crisis Superman. 🤣

I will just say this, I have painted a lot of my figures but never painted any custom headscuplt until I reached a point that I can't no longer stand Hush Superman, Conner Kent and Jon Kent's ugly faces. I guess now I have to thank Todd to help me develop new skills.

McFarlane still hasn't delivered the perfect DC figure and he isn't going to. They just go from digital sculpt straight to production with zero approval process. He's cranking out DC figures as fast as possible to keep his contract with WB indefinitely.
The first year they made some fantastic sculpts. Swamp Thing, Bane. And there's a lot of gems like Deadman and Speeding Bullet. But lately there's a lot of reuse going on.
@@Toygains I'm not at all saying there aren't halfway decent DC figures but there will never be PERFECT DC figures from Todd. The few decent ones we got were exceptions to the rule. Overall the line is cheap unpainted dogshit and he never should have gotten the license.

Moving forward I’m pretty much done buying McFarlane supermen. They are all honestly a let down besides the action comics 1000, I prefer the one from the recent Superman and atomic skull Superman. He’ll be my definitive Superman until McFarlane can get his shit together and make a classic one. Maybe the new $40 one will be better
The atomic skull one for what it's worth is close to perfect. Is what it is at this point but very frustrating.

It honestly seems like McFarlane figures are just getting worse and with that price increase and the general lack of innovation and wanting to do better, this could be a rough year for them. For all their faults at least Marvel Legends are getting better and better with each passing year, sure a few reused bucks here and there, lacking accessories but when ML drops a banger everyone's talking about it.
Also I would have loved those big hands on the new Superman for a figure I made months back.
I'd say McFarlane is just getting a little lazy and take advantage of his earlier success with the line. I did like Wonder Woman. Red Tornado is re-use but nice. Hawkman was great. But then he'll pump out some real duds.
How is ML getting better? Black Widow was they only real innovation in years and she's the only one who got it. They still using old bucks and barely paint their figs and its hardly any sculpt work on the figs. I guess you can say their face tech has gotten better on the women. I have a lot of ML and they all fell the same just different heads. I STILL don't have a Hulk that can do a thunderclap. The best Hulk to date isnt even a ML is a Marvel Select. smh

How is ML getting better LOL, they are still using those ugly ass body buck with ridiculously oudated ariculation scheme like ab crunch, hinge neck joint, waist swivel and no ball joints on the wrist and ankle, when can they start using ball joints like a real toy company? The only improvement is that their headscuplts are getting really good, and that's about it.
