- Instructional video on how to remove the vapor canister and associated solenoid and hoses. A modification that can improve the look of your Harley for under $5.00.
The video focuses on a 2014 Dyna Street Bob FXDB, but the same basic principles apply to all late model Harleys.
Chainsaw your videos are simply excellent. Clear and succinct and well thought-out, and not only does your expertise shine through but your sense of humor too. Keep 'em coming.
Thanks for the compliment Matthew. I have a lot more videos in the works.
Great content. Glad I found your channel.
Well, ya got one more sub, and a big thank you for your clear, simple explanation. 👍
Thanks Dave...I appreciate the support.
Thanks for the video.
Thank god you made this video because I hate that thing on my fxdls
Awesome... thanks man!
The backgroung song in the first half of the video is This Ain't The End Of Me by White Comic.
The gas line to the neck of the bike. I’ve been having gas leak from there. Any way to resolve
At 02:43 in your video, the solenoid you are removing from your Dyna only has two tubes connected to it. Mine has a cable that connects to the port by the two hoses. Thoughts?
Quality video!
Thanks Tom
I don’t trust myself to do this so if were to take my 16 street bob to a mechanic, would they have no problem doing this modification or would they tell me to kick rocks?
Awesome 👏🏻
I live in alaska. First thing we always do is get rid of any California complaint crap
What year is your streetbob?
Will you get a check engine light
HI all, i hit a bump and both bolts shown in the video came out and the carbon box actually fell off. Can anyone help me with the part number for engine bolts?
Good video to the point and not a lot of extra crap. My question is does that system affect performance at all or does it simply capture vapor from the tank?
As long as it's operating correctly a vapor/evappration/charcoal canister will not negatively effect perfomance.
What are the chances of doing this same video on a 2020 Kawasaki Vulcan900 Classic LT? Did removing this eliminate deceleration popping?
Great video thanks. What did you do with the plug that goes into the solenoid?
Hi Jamie. Good question. I cut the plug off, capped the wires with a little heat shrink and tucked them away.
Did you remove the solenoid completely? I did and I keep throwing a code, so I had to dumpster dive for it... Im gonna cap it and stick it back in should that keep it from throwing the code?
Will it throw any codes?
Hey man, thanks for posting this. Do you need to reinstall the solenoid?
Brandon Satterlee hey man just did this tonight. My check engine light came on without the solenoid so just leave it in and connected with no hoses. All good.
Hey man. So I watched your video and decided to take off the California bs too. Super easy and a great video. Only question I have is what did you do with the plug that plugged into the solenoid? I wrapped mine in electrical tape and zip tide it in a good place. Only problem now is my engine light came on and it says P0444, something to do with that plug? What should I do? If I would have known that I have to see that engine light shit I would have just left it all hooked up. Can’t reinstall it bc I cut the lines to shit.
ooo what are those bars?? i like them
Thanks for the video! I have a question that I was hoping you could help me. Recently I had to replace my carburetor from a 2002 Harley Davidson Sportster 883. The issue is I cannot buy a direct replacement and bought a knockoff one that lacks the vacuum tube. My petcock has a vacuum tube so I obviously would need to buy a non vacuum petcock and install the new carburetor. By switching to a non vacuum line would I have to get rid of the California solenoid and vapor canister?
Hey man, saw the comment below bout how you used a heat shrink for the plug that goes into the solenoid. Did that prevent the engine light from coming on?
I bought my 2017 FXDLS in CA when I got back to AZ I took off the "California Emission B.S" but I had to plug back in the solenoid with no hoses because the check engine light would stay on.
Hi Angel, I didn't get any check engine light or any ill effects from removing the solenoid on a 2014, or 2013 FXDB. No harm in leaving the solenoid in place with no hoses attached. Sounds like a good solution.
I was thinking of using a heat shrink like you did and tucking it anyway but if you said it would cause no harm to the bike I may just leave it the way it is. Thanks for replying.
I just did this to my '16 Street Bob and the check engine light did come on. It didn't come back on after I plugged the solenoid back in. At least it is hidden behind the coil.
So I also have a California bike, but now I have a P0444 in regards to the purge sol. Any ideas on eliminating the code?
Did you ind a solution? Just Did this and engine light as well. Thanks
Did you have an electrical plug running into your solenoid? Mine seems to have one.
Yes, I had one.. I cut it off and capped the wires with some shrink tube and tucked it away.
Granite City Riders how did you deal/bypass with the DTC P0444 code?
After I bought my car I was trying to figure out why it got better gas mileage in all other states and countries than it did in California, then I found out it was their extra emissions crap that had no busiess being on the car. Removed it all, better gas mileage. Is it malice or stupidity?
I removed mine off my 2010 super glide but didn't remove the solenoid. I didn't even know there was one? At the time all the videos I could find said cut the lines and plug the one behind the fuel injection. It worked fine never had any issues at all.
They didn't always have a purge valve solenoid on the Dyna's... not sure which year they started using the valve. Maybe it was after 2010.
My 2010 FXDB does not have the solenoid either. Just routes from tb and tank to canister to atmosphere.
Really need to make the canister on my Indian accidentally fall off... then I can finally put an intake on it.
How do you not have 10,000 subscribers
Thanks Matt. I'm working on it!
Matt Drake, "How to" videos on installing simple "bolt on" parts must not be very popular.
Hey bro my check ✔ engine light came on after I did all of this so I plugged the cylinoid back on and it went off lol ????? Your thoughts
I removed the can from my 2017 street bob and now im getting a check engine light ?
+Hey Jon, sorry to hear about your troubles.
For 49 state models the solenoid just isn’t there- and there is a cap on the vacuum port on the throttle body. So this mod shouldn’t create a problem.
What code is your bike throwing?
Great. I just this as well. But I retain the solenoid still in its original place. I notice the plug as soon as I moved the coil out of place. Hope I don't get a check light regardless. Wish me luck.
make sure you don't have a vacuum leak first and foremost.
jon kotlinski did yu get this fixed ?
jon kotlinski what code did yu throw ?
2:34 removing the remaining tubes... mine has a wire connected to that as well. I was removing it but where would that connection go after that. I’m wondering if that makes the engine light go on from other comments. Thanks dude
Tony Lam what I did was I kept it, and tucked it into the back with the cable from the pipes and zip tied them all together. It Looks flush. Cleaner. At least the canister is gone.
Tony Lam yeah I kept the block since it had a wire connected to it. It’s small so I tucked it behind where it was connected. I trimmed all cables except the tube behind the air cleaner. I rode a couple hundred miles to see if anything different would happen. So far so good.
I just did this mod on my 14’ dyna super glide, it’s best to leave the little block behind the coil pack to prevent the engine light coming up and make sure you cap off both nipples like the throttle body
But...what's the reason to do it?
Clean up the area
Awesome vid. That BS, ugly piece of junk canister is gone on my bike 😁
No doubt! Thanks for watching brotha.
That's comedy! I still live in California and already removed my canister, I work for Home Depot (Husky tools) and I am drinking a Bud when I started this video. Great minds huh! Enjoy your channel much blah blah blah. Ride On!
I also live in California. Will this effect anything if I try to sell in the future?
@@BoStErO1905 no
What’s the benefits of this?
It's ugly. It is added as an afterthought only to California Harleys. Literally hangs off the front of the frame. Also adds two hoses that run up the frame on the front of the bike. At the end of the video you can see I added a chin... this is not possible without removing the vapor can. On the 2018's, they did a better job of integrating the vapor can into the design.
CJ there isn’t one. Just looks
I just took mine off. Charcoal everywhere. It's meant to "clean" the air going into your tank via the intake system. But in reality, you fragments of charcoal going into your intake and your gas tank.
That canister recirculates vapors from your tank back into the intake so they are burned.
Not needed. Vent vapors to the atmosphere and allow the fuel injection system to control how much fuel is sent to the engine for ignition.
Why would you want to remove a vapor canister. ? The fuel vapors can be captured or they’ll just stink like a fuel leak and go in to the air. I’m looking to put one on my bike. If anyone wants to dump theirs, I’ll take em !!
Fo a video, "How to remove those ugly SOA bars you got there "
tired joke. That show died a decade ago. But you have a great youtube handle, so I forgive you.
