And I honestly cannot understand why the characters even found her attractive. Forget about her race and looks, those are absolutely fine (despite the writers' attempts to convince us that they're not fine. I'm talking about all those "Vermin Dinkley" and "you're not one of those hot girls, Velma" jokes). But she's not smart she's not kind. She's just mean. She always tries so freaking hard to humiliate others and bring them down. All the other characters, except her dad, would be better off without her in their lives. She doesn't even grow as a person! At one point she realized how awful she is, but after that she did not change her ways at all! So why are all these characters are attracted to her? What do they see that all the other people don't?

It's very weak and doesn't hold up when you apply the 'actions speak louder then words' maxim and view a character's history.
This isn't something that just springs out of left field and can be used to deflect accusations of homowashing. It is a bummer that many are leaning towards the shock/anger factor to drive up engagement/views. I personally am never bothered if a character is portrayed by another race, the character itself is what is important, their personality, quirks, and growth through the story. If the actor nails that, then they get the role! Period! Death Note Live Actors movie might have been not everyones favorite but the man who played L NAILED THAT ROLE. L himself in the manga/anime was as oddball/awkward as they come and LaKeith Stanfield embodied that perfectly. (DaFoe also made a very fun Ryuk!)

The race-swaps and sexuality changes wouldn’t be so annoying if they didn’t build the whole show around them. If the characters are LGBT+ and/or POC, that is fine. But leave it at that. People are more than diversity traits. Put their personalities ahead of their race or sexuality. Race or sexuality don’t bring anything to the character but cringe if the character is already a terrible person.

7:19 Velma was bisexual. Sometimes she was into guys, sometimes she was into girls. Pretty sure Fred, Daphne, and Shaggy were all straight. Though, Shaggy was kind of married to his dog and food. Those tended to come before girls. But every now and then he liked a girl. Fred and Daphne often seemed like a couple, though sometimes Daphne would go gaga for some cute guy. Sometimes Fred would get jealous... you know, I can't recall Fred showing much interest in anyone besides Daphne. Guess he was a bit of a loyal golden retriever?

Have people forgot she once crushing on Johnny Bravo in the crossover episode and even implied to be dating with him in the CN Bumpers? Or the Scoobynatural episode where she kissed Sam? Or any of the dvd animated movies with detective Beau, Ben Ravencroft, Winsaur as well as the live action movies where she dated Seth Green. Hell, she's been dating Shaggy in the Scooby Doo Mystery Begins and Curse of the Lake Monster and in the Scooby Apocalypse they both have a baby.
I'll die on this hill that the obsession to retcon Velma into lesbian is dumb AF and that Johnny X Velma would make for a power couple.

Apparently, they have been trying to make Velma a lesbian but every time it gets to editing it gets cut. Which is why you see her in no relationship/no love interest. Or if she is, it is a heterosexual relationship. Besides, Mystery Incorporated tried to hint at Velma and another female character, Hot Dog Water, as an interest. Besides Bisexual and pansexual people exist.
If this is true, I wouldn't be surprised. Film, animation, and shows, are in the end an industry that wants money. And having LGBT is a plot that is not about LGBT coming of age story getting cut. And not to mention back then when laws and regulations were being made to Regulate what film can show being gay was seen as illegal. While it is not anymore but centuries of discrimination are not something that can be solved easily.
Take films adapted from comics for example. While comics may not always have the best LGBT representation there are plenty of them: Red Robin, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Loki, Deadpool, etc. These are pansexual/bisexual characters that have been adapted to live-action films/shows. But can you count a single love interest/relationship that was not straight? No. Because any plans of them were cut or "straight washed".
You can have actors, writers, and directors, all up for just gay characters and homosexual relationships but if being gay is not "important" to the story then it gets cut or "straight washed".
Margot Robbie has been pushing Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy's love story for the big screen and quotes "I have been pushing that for years... I cannot tell you how hard I have been pushing for that."
There are probably many iconic characters that have been attempted to be depicted in a homosexual romance but before they can make it to your screen it was cut and maybe even straight-washed. Even nowadays you see LGBT theme shows/films. Can you recall any show or film where the characters happen to be gay but are not important to the plot? Probably not because homophobia still exists. People can lose their jobs or have the show/film they have been trying to make get cut. Just because they have one character that just happens to be gay. It is an issue that still exists today. Seriously how many times have you heard an uproar of homophobic complaining about a gay couple in a film or a kiss between two girls that aren't even the main characters and don't even last two seconds?
You would be surprised by the lengths companies would go to silent workers or cut films/shows just so they don't lose money. And the trouble writers and directors would go to give a LGBT character.

All of those are explicitly done due to production mandate. Velma never had a romantic interest the studio didn't force.
The Live Action movie tried to have her be gay/bi and the studio flipped out, making Jmes Gunn write a love interest for Velma. It's why her Love interest in the first movie has 0 relevence to the plot or interactions with anyone but her. He was reshoots only.
People have seen queer coding in Velma since pretty much day one of the cartoon. It was always unintentional but it was noticed before the studios gave her dates to curb the 'Velma's queer" comments.

imo if they named the show something else and make it an original concept, it wouldn't be getting any hype.
The show had some abhorrent moments for sure especially in the earliest parts and it's got a lot of problematic elements even if you don't look at the race swapping aspect at all but I went through the first four episodes and honestly my thoughts were... it's just plain boring? I agree on the animation and art. It's not bad to look at imo and Im glad they took the animation aspects seriously and there are cinematic visual elements for sure. But it's really just not worth the hype it gets kinda like that High Guardian Spice show that came out awhile back.
Though I will say i've enjoyed the creativity coming out of it from the fanbase. Some artists and animators here on YT have reworked the character designs (even keeping the elements of race swapping but giving it purpose beyond "woke points") and premises for them, how they'd do the show, redone scenes, etc and it's been really cool to see the amazing ideas out there! Would love to see that level of creativity and effort in shows on platforms like HBO so im feeling hopeful for the industry's future that there's a lot of people out here who care about great content and all the elements included it it :)
