For example: they hate that female characters are often portrayed as weak and very dependant on others, so, instead of just making their character strong and self-reliant, they make them way, _way_ stronger than every other character and have them be toxic or outright destructive towards the other characters. The fact that someone went out of their way to tell a Japanese artist “putting you in your place” is a huge red flag to me.
People should go back to calling it “redesigning” instead of “reclaiming” a bad person’s OCs and “fixing.” You would have to possess a level of arrogance to “reclaim” someone’s OC just because the person who made it is considered “lesser” for doing bad things (why would you reclaim a bad person’s OC??). They would be pulling their hair out and scream how “stealing is wrong” when people do the same thing to them. You would have to have a level of arrogance and unhealthy entitlement to take someone’s art without permission and claim your interpretation is “better.”
I swear people don’t know how to respect certain body types. Speaking as someone who IS overweight or obese, Art Fixers think making a character skinny or fat is “fixing,” but it’s just insulting. Just draw yourself doing cosplay at that point or make your own OCs, make some “long lost sibling who is sired by a villain and has demon powers of the universe” if you had to, just not this “fixing” bs. 😭

It's seriously infuriating when people "fix" art and claim for theirs to be better than the original. Something like that happened in real life at school with one of my coloured pencil drawings and I was seriously contemplating quitting art at that moment since it was so discouraging. Lucky for me, I've moved past that, but not everyone is gonna react the same. In order for this kind of discouragement from happening, I seriously wish these "art fixers" could instead give verbal criticisms at the very most.

I teach art to elementary school kids (Kindergarten through 5th grade), and what happened to you is repulsive to me. I'm sorry that happened to you, sincerely. I spend the first week or so of each new school year talking about behavior and what I expect from my students and what they should expect from me. I make a point of asking them how they want to be treated, and how they want me to behave. It culminates in a classroom contract that my students and I write together and sign so that everyone knows what is expected and has agreed on it. One of the key things I stress is respect for others work, and the understanding that everyone has different levels of skill. We spend time talking about the ways to talk about another person's art work. All of this is to create an atmosphere of trust, so that students feel safe and know that no one will make fun of them if they can't draw something. And one of the big rules is you never put your hands on someone else's work with out their permission, and that includes me. When I demonstrate something for a student I do it on a separate surface, when I want to look closer at a student's work I ask them if I can hold it to look closer at it.

I'll never understand why people feel the need to fix something... they were never asked to fix?
Art is art, no matter what skin tone someone gives a character, no matter what body shape, or face shape, ect. Artists should have creative freedom to draw characters in whatever light they please. Even if it does not fit into your moral standards, it is still not your art to "fix." When you take the original drawing and repost it with "changes", it's just stealing at that point. I feel so bad for so many artists who wish to be creative and such, and then some twidiot coming along and ruining it!
(Ex. That one drawing of human puss in boots, someone got mad because they made him... light skinned. even though it was literally plausible considering his race... LOL.)
I myself am an artist, and I post my art to Twitter because I wish to share my creativity.
People don't realize that when you go onto someone's post, video, ect, you are now in THEIR creative space, not yours. Do not be disrespectful or rude, that was their hard work, not yours.
I can understand people getting upset over a drawing, and it may be "upsetting or offensive", but still, I'll never understand why people cannot just... keep scrolling. Smh.

There's a difference between being rude and disrespectful, and being respectful and critiquing someone's work civily. If you do so, do it in a civil way, but criticism is always okay. That is, if it's respectful to the artist.
I didn't mean for this to sound like I was rambling off safe space nonsense, but my point in my original post was that, if you go onto someone's post of art, and wish to critique it, atleast be a decent person about it, and not a big jerk. But you shouldn't call that a fix or state that your reimagination is (morally) better than the original. Regarding a Dtiys: if it's an official challenge by an artist or fan art of characters from a known IP (Naruto, Marvel, whatever) it's fine to post it online while respecting the original and stating the source. But I wouldn't post a study of an artwork from another creator online since that would kinda feel like theft to me (I hope you know what I mean).

Made him into the most boring office worker looking guy imaginable.
Seriously I'm pretty sure that thread's motto is taking the fun out of art. An artstyle might seem ugly to you but that doesn't mean that it's wrong. The thread started off as draw overs with criticism which is what drew me in originally, especially during my yan sim era. That didn't last long. Quickly devolved into anything that isn't mainstream or typical or is just 'sjw' needs fixing. They'll just make a whole ass new oc and call it fixed. Or even worse draw a cannon character because they were too lazy to draw the character depicted and call it fixed. Also like I mentioned, just removing pride flags or badges and calling it fixed

Nobody can _fix_ art, they can only change art. Why is that so hard to understand? Art is never created wrong, it's only made with the capacity, thoughts, and spirit the artist has. Even offensive art isn't made wrong, it's the artist. If the anatomy, color choices, or subject matter are nasty, it is only because the artist is that way. It's still art made the way it is for a reason though. Sometimes an artist can grow, sometimes they refuse to. If they want to grow, "fixing" the art will discourage them, if they don't want to grow, then there is nothing you can do. You get no internet points for either group of people. An original design is never wrong in concept because there's no individual who is bad by default. If you have a problem with the way the ARTIST decides things, that's not the problem of the design. SMH some concepts are too advanced for people.

When I design a character for a story I'm writing. They have certain reasons and backstory and lore as to why they look and act the way the do.
One of the most offensive things I've heard is that I need to change some of my characters to be more inclusive. In this particular story, it's set in a very near-future timeline where super powers ARE REAL and all the Governments of the world see empowered individuals not as heroes, but weapons.
These individuals are pushed to their limits with training and lowkey torture to make them as strong as possible. To make the weapon, as strong as possible.
Why would any of them be fat? Why? Wh-, like, maybe if one had a power that made them fat, but I don't have one of those. So why in the fuck would any one character be fat? They are all toned to extremely built for a reason. They have no choice but to be, unless their power eliminates the need for physical exertion. Which there are a few of. But then again, why would I make them fat either? Fatness is unappealing, to me, the writer. I am not going to make a character unappealing. I do not want to write that. I don't mind if you do, that's completely fine. But I will stick with my preferences.

The amount of times I redrew a piece of work is unbelievable. And it's still unfinished. (I'm terrible.) I like the idea of the "DITYS" challenges. It's similar to how Jazza or The Snake Artist did their own artwork challenges, such as drawing a character in a different style (Peter Griffin as a Simpson character design) or test your expanse on art by adding yourself into other pieces of work. The Snake Artist started that challenge with his brother with photoshop, from the start a few years ago. It's really fun to try.

TLDR: Just don't "fix" art. You aren't helping anyone, not even yourself, and everyone is worse off for witnessing your attempted "fix".
I hate the concept of "Fixing Art" because it implies that the art is wrong in some way, usually in regards to the art STYLE and not the subject. And that is the problem. It basically creates the idea that there is a right and wrong way to create art, when in reality the entire point behind art is that it is SUBJECTIVE. Meaning that there is no right or wrong way to create art and express yourself, but everyone around you is going to perceive it differently. "Fixing art" is especially harmful when people "fix" artworks that someone creates to express something within themselves, whether good or bad feelings/emotions. Art is often very personal to the creator, and you'll only cause more problems by "fixing" a piece you know nothing about.
Also, fixing art by simply changing skin tone/ethnicity is not helping anyone either. Its just coming off as forced and toxic
Instead of fixing, offer constructive criticisms and suggest ways to improve through technique/study or other possible methods
