- Pontiac Lemans Safari Station Wagon 5.0L 305 V8 Classic Youngtimer Car Video Review Walk Around www.1ownercarguy.com Here is a very nice Pontiac Lemans Wagon that is like a muscle car and sports car all in one. It has the looks of a sporty car but is also a wagon that you can haul the whole family around in. As you can see the paint is a little faded but the body is straight and clean. I like the front end on these. All of the chrome is in good condition and has a nice shine to it. I really like the factory wheels that they put on these. Really gives the car a unique look. This car has the 5.0L 305 in it and is a good runner. It has been sitting awhile so does run a little rough but nothing a tune up can't fix. The interior is clean and well maintained. You will be hard pressed to find a cleaner car like this.

From Wikipedia:
In 1978, the Le Mans and other GM mid-sized cars were considerably downsized and lost some 600-800 lb in the process, as part of GM's corporate downsizing program following the aftermath of the Arab Oil Embargo induced energy crisis of 1973 - 1974. Pontiac's engines were also downsized, with the standard engine being the Buick 3.8L 231ci V6, Pontiac 265ci V8, or optional Pontiac 4.9L 301ci V8 for 1978, (a Chevy 305ci V8 in California). 1978 also saw Pontiac's 350ci & 400ci engine production shut down after many years of service as its hallmark V8's. A limited production run of 400ci engines was made, but were only available in 1978 and 1979 Trans Ams equipped with the 4-speed manual transmission. From 1978 to 1980, Pontiac's mid-sized lineup included the base Le Mans, Grand Le Mans, and a revived Grand Am; all available as a Coupe, Sedan, or Wagon. Although the new Grand Am was better suited in size and concept than the original 1973--1975 Grand Am as a European-styled touring coupe/sedan, it was not a tremendous seller. In 1980, the Grand Am was only offered as a coupe. With lacking sales, the "Grand Am" nameplate was again discontinued until 1985, when it was reborn as Pontiac's new compact car, a form the Grand Am would take for the next two decades, until being replaced by the Pontiac G6 in 2005.

I remember when my best friend's Mom down the street got one. We didn't think much of it because we thought it looked - get this - so small! Seriously, it was a down-size from the wagons we were used to and we all thought it looked dinky. My...how times have changed!
That green was a hot color back then :)
Yep, the Chevy 305 was the only GM V8 motor that was set up for the 1979 California smog emissions limits. The Pontiac V8's were too dirty for this state!
This wagon is a true classic here. You make the best car videos.
I agree!
love this bodystyle... My dad hadCutlass Cruiser wagon, 350 with a quadrajet.. passed everything but the gas station.. I THINK it even required premium gas.. dontcha just love the muffler running parallel with the back axle... and the muffler mounted crimped edge up?? ALL those mufflers blew out prematurely.. MIDAS got tired of seeing us once a year.. 1989, car had 60,000 miles on it, and the camshaft had worn out prematurely.. we unloaded it, dealership blew motor on way to auction lol
my uncle got my grandmas old straight bodied 1986 white pontiac parisiene fully loaded, he ended up scrapping it! it burned oil and hid ex messed up the transmission but this thing was straight and rust free. i miss it, the grills lights, adn as you mention the wheels were better on the pontiac back then
as I recall, the rear windows did not roll down.. that includes the 82 and 86 Cut owned.. thats why they had wing windows.
A car similar to this was my first car (I had a 1981 Lemans Safari Wagon - blue). It lasted me about a year before I was rear-ended on Memorial Day weekend by a guy who spun out and took off (wet surface). I was pushed into a telephone pole where I ricocheted into a bus stop enclosure. Luckily it was late at night, and no one, including myself was injured).
I just picked one up Saturday morning 1980 Pontiac Grand LeMans.two little rust spots other than that it is mint condition the paint faded or nothing like that car the dash and everything is like new so is the rest of the interior heat and AC works 265 Pontiac motor 93800 miles I drove it 500 Miles home from Indiana to Michigan with not one issue. I only paid $3,000 for it
Love the Safari !! The vent windows open and close that's it in the rear doors.I own a 81 Chevy Malibu wagon so I know.More than likely a 305 or a 267 cu. inch I turned mine into a street rod 327 cu with tune port no roof rack I love it ...Take Care Did you sell it yet?
My Grandmother used to drive one of these when my mom was little
these are awesome wagons!!
Reminds me of the Griswalls family truckster two in National Lampons Vacation!
Good car. The dash is massive - reminds me of a truck dash :)
Those good old classic American cars are more then just A to B riders - as time goes by they become more precious and valuable, like piece of art.
No way you still have this .I've had mine as long as this video has been up
LOL , how do the rear windows roll down ??
We had a brown one like this car no the back windows don't roll down my mom went back to the dealer after she got it . And the man said the wing windows are it
It was decent car . But then the 6000 came out and mom traded it in for that .
I like it..thanks for sharing..
That's a sweet wagon! I love that groovy green color. The back bumper and lights are exactly like my 84 El Camino. Does GM own Pontiac or somethin?
Yes until 2010
Este coche en España no pasaría la ITV, en USA si?
We have a car exactly like this.Different color,we're the second owner.( someone ran into me last week thats why I'm looking at this) The windows do not roll down, just the wings. Not bad, you get nice airflow with them open. How much are you asking for this car?
Back windows don't roll down on those models, that includes the Oldsmobile cutlass and the chevy Malibu models
great review!
Why is the pontiac your favorite?
Malaise Era goodness...avocado green everywhere!
do you know the gas mileage?
My 86 Olds Cutlass 4dr in fact all 1978-1987 g-body sedans wing windows only open not the big glass. Sames goes for 1978-1983 g-body Wagons.
nice car. Majority of LeManswere built at St. Therese assembly plant - if this one was probably needs a lot of work due to poor quality build at that time.
Yeah, most of these cars had "fixed" windows in the rear doors. Some of the wing windows were power and the rest had manual latches. The Chevy Citation 4 door had fixed back windows as well with a small flip out window in the rear quarter. And they wonder why people started buying Japanese cars.LOL
Hey bud you forgot your seatbelt I think, lol, very strange about the rear windows but I see the point if you have kids you may or may not want the big windows to roll down, I thought that would have the for broken it, I also think some of those came with a diesel I may be wrong though.
Awesome Car
I own a 1978 Safari. While my interior is in better shape than what you show here, my exterior is hurting somewhat from the damn salt on the streets over the years. To answer your comments in here...The rear doors never had window cranks. Reason from the factory was to keep kids from rolling them down and falling out. Not all models had the rear P/Windows. The rims are GM-Honeycomb factory rims. Car does need paint & interior work, but some true heart youngster could make it look great again.
The Wagon Queen Family Truckster is a station wagon.
It was only on the GM G-Body sedans/wagons that the rears didn't roll down. My '84 Cutlass Supreme is the same way. I kind of like it. I'm surprised that your wagon's rear windows are electrics!
might have to hold out for a cimmarron
Those wing windows are weird. Cool but weird lol.
I know it’s a long shot but I don’t suppose this is still available? Or is anyone selling a similar car?
bummer. My family had one of these when I was growing up and Ive been looking everywhere for another one
When GM downsized their intermediates for '78, they wanted shoulder room to be similar to the '77 models. To do this, they made rear windows stationary to include arm rests inside the rear door panels and had swing out rear vent windows. Personally, I've never seen a GM car like this with manual crank windows in the front and power vent windows in the rear.
What'll you let 'er go for?
uummmm 79... are you sure its not the pontiac 301 thats in there?
Sweet!~
amó las guayinas homy
I think Nathan came at 14:33 hahaha
Oldsmobile(R.I.P. 2004) = Overpriced Leisurely Driven Sedan Made Of Buick's Irregular Leftover Equipment
( the Pontiac acronym is more well known)
In Spain cars must be revieses no a regular bases, this coludo not pass!
no 3rd row seat in it man didnt other small wagons of the time have one man if i was in the time this car came out i'd go for an olds or chevy for the 3rd row seat
You know they had the 267 V8 also
mccrackenphillip If it's a 2 bbl it's the 267.Don't believe they had the 2bbl 305 in '79.
I think California got the Chevy 305 because..well...California is weird. (Assuming it's a native CA car)
G body
why sell it??? yo a fool to sell!!! im jut saying
thats horrible who thought that was a good idea !? whAT where they thinking?!
