This gave me hope to use my iPhone again, the "Keep Original" options is what fixed it for me, currently the easiest way for windows users to import is to use the Windows 10 "Photos" app and import from device. This would usually always fail, but when I changed from Automatic to Keep Original, all of my imports, large or small, went flawlessly

Thank you! That worked perfectly. Photos sucks so bad it wouldn't even import my videos. It would start and then fail or just stop completely and tell me my iPhone was locked and I needed to unlock it when it was clearly not.
