3,000 miles down with the galaxie being my daily driver - really enjoying it! BUT who wants to see some V8 Maverick???
I just bought a '66 C10 and I love old vehicles!
Look up the steel drivers - before Stapleton left
NM song is outstanding The SteelDrivers - Good Corn Liquor
If that is an aluminum carb you better run ethanol free gas. If it sits for extended time the ethanol and its additives will eat the bowl area away. A guy put an aluminum 750 on a hot 350 checvy and after one winter it ate the carb away so bad it was unusable. Maybe it was a fluke but I only run zinc diecast carbs for that reason.
Would love that! Hey check out BST Ford's maverick.
Man.. something about old dashboards never gets old. Those folks can keep all that digital stuff, give me those old sweeping needles any day!
Same! I wouldn’t have it any other way!!!
I always thought this until I bought my 2006 Grand Marquis. I like both now!😂
Amen!!!!
Back in the sixties, Ford had the best riding cars.
Hands down, one of the best looking dashes I have seen in a while. Just because I am not a Ford fan doesn't mean that I don't appreciate goodness!
"If you got an old car get out and drive it!" Words of wisdom from a wise man!
Yeah, you do more damage by letting the car sit than doing what it was intended to do.
I like where this channel is headed. Straight forward information. The car is the star not the mechanic . Keep up the great videos. Enjoyed
If you were as ugly as me, you’d keep off the camera too 😂
@@ThunderHead289 You are in no way ugly. Have confidence young man it will show in the videos. You have an amazing talent just continue to keep your videos about the vehicles. Some of these guys try to be comedians. If we wanted to watch a comedian we can find one on RUclips. You do have a presence in front of the camera and are very comfortable. Keep it up .
@@ThunderHead289 That's why I don't do videos at all 🤣😂
Good vid,,LOVE that car!
I've got that same carb on my 273. They load it from the factory with the heaviest secondary spring there is (black). Swap it out for a yellow and HANG ON! Night and day difference.
Any vids coming up on the 273 tony?
Definitely do the disk brake upgrade. I drove my '67 for 20 years on drums. Kicked myself for not upgrading to disks sooner. It will make a world of difference.
It's safer with front disks. If you let Emily drive it, give her the disk brakes so you get more peace of mind.
You know what's funny, I see comments like this a lot. We have a 64 galaxie with 4 wheel POWER drum brakes. I also have a 99 grand marquis which has fucking huge 12.5"X3" front disc brakes and 11.5" rear brakes if I remember right. The galaxie with the drum brakes stops just about as well as the 4 wheel discs on the grand marquis do. The galaxie is also a few hundred pounds heavier. Aside from the single reservoir master cylinder I see no need for discs other than being easier to work on.
I have to revise my comment. Yesterday I bought a 64 galaxie 500 4 door sedan with manual brakes. Even with the manual brakes that clearly need bled and adjusted even those still stopped just fine.
@@MattsRageFitGarage It's not the stopping power that's a question. The Drums fade more quickly when they get hot.
@@BobPegram I'm sitting in a yard truck right now with drum brakes all around. These things never really fade and I use them very hard. I even ride the brakes sometimes to get rid of squeaking and they get so hot I can smell them. No fade. If there's problems like that with people's drum brakes then there's probably something wrong with them.
luv 64's. She's survived 55 years intact, so treat her well! a neighbor had a Country Squire which made a huge impression on me...I'm old so this was back in late '60's. Thx for keeping the carb tune experience alive for another generation
Another great video from a great teacher. I like your style. Tons of valuable information without a big "look at me" ego. Real car guys don't count doors, we just like cool cars.
Thank you 👆👆👆👆
No, they will not be around forever. Happy to know there are youth like yourself still carrying the torch for these classics.
Here it's like going back to school, but this time I'm learning somthing.😊👍
It has a lot of get up and go.🤘
Surprisingly for what it is, it sure does!
Hey. aren’t you the fella who did that deal with uncle tony awhile back?
ThunderHead289 yes. with nick’s help I just finished sorting out the 318s oil pressure problem. When The coronavirus settles down it will be back up to nicks for The second round of Dyno test and tune. The block is painted for the New direction of the build. @@LunarOutlawsGarage Nick is a class act. It was fun watching that
Project.
Well done Luke.
Nobody talks about venturi vacuum, and I would bet most don't know what it does. You do and I do.
Nice job making the old girl sing.
Thanks for sharing.
💪
talk to me about that venturi vacuum. Im tuning a 4100 on a stock 89 302. running 48 in the primaries and 58s in the secondaries. I'm all ears. thanks mickey cbears2001@gmail.com. the car is a 63 fairlane wagon with AOD.
I like that big ole stupid boat almost as much as the f100.
Yep, the f100 would blow its doors off, but there’s something about just having a good cruiser!
Dude, you are so thorough in explain ing everything. You have so much knowledge you should be a shop teacher. Mold young minds.
This old girl got her groove back. Great job!
Always enjoy your videos!! I like that 64. Here is one vote for putting disc brakes on the front.
Hello from England Luke, I really enjoy your channel, I'm 60 but still enjoy learning.
Hey Luke, really enjoying this series, wonderful original old car . Mate, definitely do the disc brake / booster conversion, I would hate to see the single circuit brake cylinder fail on you in traffic. Quick tip for starting with a dry carby, using a small bottle - pour a little bit of petrol into the front bowl vent which partially fills the fuel bowl and accelerator pump, operate the throttle to check fuel is coming through the squirter's and you are good to go.
I really miss the big 'ol boats of yesterday, especially the the suicide-door Lincoln my dad owned back in '67(?). What a car, the back seat was like the Grand Canyon. It swallowed up me, my brother & sister like we were specks of dust.
Luke, I'm willing that boat of yours is probably more comfortable on a long trip than my wife's '16 Honda CR-V, or even my '03 Crown Vic!
Keep up the great work sir!
I absolutely agree with upgrading the brakes. A single reservoir master cylinder just screams out to be replaced with a dual reservoir system.
That would be the only reason to upgrade something you aren't racing. I often think about changing the master in my '66 to a '67.
Man, that is a beautiful ride. Makes me want to go out and get one myself! Gotta love the ol FE's!
No garbage, just straight mechanical info. Love it. Thanks man
Ow! Fan stitches! Felt that. Also that 352 actually sounds great now that it can breathe while it spins up!
Sweet Ride. I had a 65 Ford Custom former police car with a 352 under the hood. Seeing the 64 reminds me of the car my best friend drove and all the shenanigans we got into back in the early 70's.
If you take it to a show make sure the trunk is open with a case of mason jars in the trunk for full effect. It will add 20HP and +200 street cred. That galaxy is beautiful. Groovy car man. Love the videos.
Always loved that car. My uncle had the XL same year. Before I had my own, he let me borrow his for dates. Drive-in days. Car had a great back seat.
Great jib love those 352s had a couple in the day I'm 65 years old.
Hey bud 👋, i came over from junkyard digs to check you out. I'm from the UK and are always so jealous of American cars. Loving your content already and you seem like a real nice guy 👍
That's a precious car, and is pretty in one piece. Nice job.
Dad had a '64 Galaxie 500 Country Sedan Wagon. Took my driving test in it back in 1969.
I so want one of those today.
That was an absolute amazing sound of the engine ❤️
My uncle from Australia has a imported Caddy DeVille Coupe, thing's a fucking boat, but as he says, the most comfortable and enjoyable sunday cruiser. Love the way that thing came alive with the new carb, keep up the good videos, love the work!!!
Awesome car, I had a 62 galaxie with the 260 small block. Not much on power but I loved driving it to the Navy base every day. Miss that old boat.
Man they thing runs sweet. It looks like it would be a blast to just cruise around in.
Vice grip garage would love that filter for his latest build
Too funny. The Independence was the first thing that came to mind when I saw that.
Reminded me of my first car--a '64 Ford, full size, 4 door. with 289, 3 speed, plus overdrive.
That car's a beauty inside and out.
Coming along. Enjoy your Fourth! Love the Venturi effect. Such an important and useful process.
I really like that old four door Ford. I was born in 64 and that car brings back a lot of childhood memories. Great channel with great content and very informative.
Great job on the carb replacement. Very educational video.
Thanks for what you do, man. I have my first real project coming at the end of the week ('67 Malibu 4-door with a 283 under the hood), and at this point I barely even know how to spell "carburetor", much less how to work on them, so I'm really hoping to channel your carb-whisperer ways into getting this thing running even halfway decently again. Keep working your magic, buddy.
Good luck with your project! I have a lot of videos on here on tuning for sure - scroll through my actual channel page, I have some playlists put together
I appreciate that, man. Definitely gonna be part of my homework for the next few weeks.
Informative video as always. Love the galaxy. Can't wait to put a new 4 barrel on the 350 in my square body. Definitely needs it. Can't wait to feel the improved get up and go.
I would love to have one of those . My dad had a 63 two door when I was a kid . Loved that car.
Watching you tune that carb makes me wanna get the motor in my 87 ext cab dually ranger 👍
That runs much smoother at highway speed. No stalling start or stop, bucking, misfires or leaning out at speed. Nice job.
Thanks for the video! Always learn something when watching these!
Sounds really good glad your driving it take care and stay safe and stay blessed see you in the next
What a cool ride! Luv it!
No need for disk brakes if it will only be used as a cruiser. Just make sure the original brakes are in top shape and well adjusted. If you really want to improve the brake system i'd advise installing a modern 2chamber master cylinder and a brake pressure limiter valve on the rear axel in order to prevent rear wheels from locking up when you slam on the brakes.
I have a soft spot for 352s. The 390 in my Mustang was tapered to death when I bought the car. I tried a re-ring kit, but it didn't seal long. It was blowing oil in about a week. I found a 352 in a junk yard ant stuffed it in the Mustang. I drove it for several years and was happy with the modest power. It was still running well when I bought a rebuilt 390 for the car.
The "new" 390 got the snots built out of it when I made a baby 427 out of it. FEs are the boss!
Try a set of headers on an FE Mustang. OMG! I engine has to come out to install or remove headers!
Hey now! My first cousin bought a 1964 Galaxie 500 new. Couldn't tell you what motor was in it, but to an 11 year old kid, that thing was like a spaceship in design. Not some "boat" lol. Great old car thanks.
Don’t get me wrong, I love it 👌
Years ago I had a ‘70 LTD hardtop with a 390/2 bbl, totally stock. I spent years upgrading everything. I think you will see a significant increase in fuel mileage from the carb swap. Would help to get a good aluminum intake as well. I ran an Edelbrock SP2P and Holley 750. Went from 16 on the highway to 23. Just my experience. I like what you’re doing and just subscribed. Cheers.
This is why I follow your channel, you're an " old school " guy and can enjoy a car for what it is, nice install
Strong argument to get my boat out of the garage and sort the remaining bugs out of her as well. Have a like year Victoria Towncar Hardtop aching to spread its reign of terror with its four drum brakes and FE 352 ci., cruiso-matic trans. I love your choice of land barges. Safe travels my friend.
I would definitely upgrade the front brakes to disc and modify that single circuit system to dual!
She's a nice surviver indeed!
Nice job TH. My grandpa was a HUGE FORD Mechanic. I know he’s smiling down at u!!!!
Me when the engine doesn't run: mm yes the carburetor does not seem to be carbureting
I had a '64 Galaxie 500 with a 289 2bbl and 3 n the tree trans. Before it was totaled by a bobtail semi in '74 I had put a Holley 500 2bbl installed and a Hurst SyncroLoc floor shifter. This thing was a real fine car.....
Cool car. I'd love to see the paint job polished up and shining.
Galaxie/500 it's the only Ford I like and respect. Learning bits at a time about Carburetors thanks for sharing. I did order the shirt in black btw.#24
You're the best, Luke!!! You are so good at figuring out the old cars. Makes me wish I had one now.
Thank you for your videos. Love your demeanor and knowledge. Keep up your work with older vehicles!
Nice to see the old ford running better! Like you said just a cruiser! Even the body looks good!
DAMN I love that car!
That thing sounds great my friend
Aside from genuinely enjoying your videos I've been watching your carb ones specifically for tips on VW carbs... maybe some day you'll make a few videos on them. Also the 009 Distributor is MECHANICAL only advance. Most people toss them and swap in a SVDA but honestly as far as reliability/less maintenance I like the 009 more even if you do sacrifice some power off the line.
The precursor to the 009 was a vacuum advance only distributor typically paired with the Pict-28 carb.
I really need to make some videos on my own beetle - actually own a 67!
I love this car and would be proud to daily it if it was mine, although being in Texas I'd have to add vintage air to it.
Out here in the desert part of TEXAS,I put an old underdash metal unit in my 62 Ranchero. It's got a Mercury man on it. Vintage Air is just too pricey.
ThunderHead289 keep up the awesome work!!!
Very cool!!! Cheers Luke !!! 🍻
That air cleaner is sweet!! Very appropriate for the occasion. Good job man.
I had a 63 galaxy for my first car. It was a great ride. Same motor as yours. You can actually pull start these cars. My starter went on mine, and an older gentleman told me to pull start it to get it home. It worked ! The 352 was a good motor. Surprised they didn't keep them around longer.
Would LOVE to see a video, once and for all, what timing adjustments are needed, when comparing octane levels, say 87 and 93. And WHEN and WHAT circumstances call for higher octane. Cylinder pressure test? Static Compression? Dynamic? Love your videos man, but there is just very little discussion on this topic it seems!
I could talk for 30 minutes about that topic without taking a breath 😅
Perfect air cleaner for Independence Day!!
Another great video! So glad to hear a young man who actually knows this stuff. I commented in an earlier video about an old VW vacuum can that had both manifold and ported vac going to it, but you one-upped me by referencing VW's less common venturi vacuum advance unit. Those things also worked great and gave an amazing 20+ degrees of advance! Thanks for the fun videos!
Get out and drive it? Of course! That's what cars are made for! I have been daily driving a 66 Falcon for the past 5 years. Never lets me down. Parts are easy to get and cheap.
Cool unmolested car, awesome driver, very sweet, Grandma had a dark blue two door .
Hi Luke great video sweet ride the old girl can get up and go have a great day
I'm no ford guy by no means but I enjoy the Learning aspect of your channel keep up the good work 🤟
I saw you out & about last week. Nice to see the ol' girl on the road. Maybe we'll cross paths at the Good Guys. Love the lessons you present.
One more step in the right direction. She looks like a good fun cruiser.
great stuff, keep us posted on your progress. my next project will be a 64 galaxie coupe
Love your channel, Luke. Great information. I really liked your insights about the distributor on the last episode. Maybe between your channel and @thecraig909, I can convince my father to get his 64 Galaxie 500 fastback with a 352 back on the road.
I bet I’m ten years we won’t be allowed to, so drive them NOW!!!
@@ThunderHead289 Tend to agree, Luke. That seems to be the direction things are headed. I'll keep doing my part by promoting the piston powered car hobby through Piston Republic till they shut us down though!
pistonrepublic.com/
And I know you'll keep making videos. Keep on keepin' on!
Beautiful old car..my dream car...here in NZ I'd probably have to pay $50,000 to buy one in reasonable shape...so jealous!! Great work by the way, excellent videos!
Hey mate I'm in South Australia. Sometimes they come up for sale reasonably priced, just keep looking. 👍
NZ has bad import rules, must own for a year, pass inspections and all kinds of bullshit compared to Australia
I love the green-dot cruiso too!
Awesome old antique car and video
Cant deal with the headaches and the constant spending of the cash but I do like the way they look but that's as far as it goes with me just looking nothing else when it come down to an old car or truck and thats great enough for me lol peace my friend 😁👍
Even though I'm a GM nut, I sure do love them o'l Ford tanks. Ps, I love the air cleaner
I love summits carb design. You get a holley design but it has a removable top plate like an edelbrock, instead of bowls that remove and spill gas everywhere with the holley.
Actually since summit can't make a holley clone they used the Ford Autolite design for the basis and added Holley components for ease of repair and lower cost. The Autolite worked very well "IF" maintained properly.
Seeing that car brought back memories of a 64 ford the same color and drivetrain. unfortunately not good memoties, as I suffered very serious injuries in a wreck in said car as a passenger. However I still enjoyed this video. Keep that FORD going.
Very cool video and content thanks for sharing!!!😎👍🏼❤️
Awesome, love that dash, first car was one of these, but with 289. 93 mph and 5 miles to get it their.lol, great to see and learn something about carburetion. She seems to move pretty good.
I love the emphasis on ported vacuum vs. manifold vacuum.
Nice one. Time to go for drive in my 1960 Holden. It still has four wheel drums which work well with an aftermarket booster. I only run out of brakes after repeated fast stops.
Looking forward to seeing the next video on doing front disc brakes conversion.
Even though it is a cruiser it would help the on take off with a 3.25 gears and still run on the interstate 🛣.
Man that thing kicks ass Luke
Yeah that is one of most fondest memories, being driven around in various American cars of this era too, so most were 4 door and I grew to like them very much indeed. Disc brakes.dual masters etc would love to see you install that. My fave ever project you've done my man. A Galaxie 500 too, no less.
Well done Luke. A great video. That sure is a cool daily runner. Admire you and the 63. It is agreed - "best run them rather than leave in the garage gathering dust".
You are the carburetor Whisperer🇺🇸👍
Maybe a posi might nice? Just saying lol 😂
Came out great by the way, goes real good if ya ask me!
My dad had a '58 Fairlane with the 352 Inteceptor Special that he street raced. He told me about a Plymouth Savoy with a 392 Hemi , or a 413 Wedge he had beaten just one time!
Love the old iron, my only nitpik would be the air cleaner with eighteen stripes lol. Keep em coming.
