We need resources for adults leaving abusive situations - whether its cults or abusive households. I am disabled and struggled to flee an VERY abusive household, even when I was legally old enough to leave. It was a choice between homelessness and having my life endangered/trauma. A dilemma many cult victims face as well. If we had more resources (or even charities) for adults fleeing cults that would be great.
Why I support UBI. I too had to choose between Healthcare with an abusive spouse or the street. Eventually he was going to kill me so I had to chance the streets. It's horrible and I hope you are able to find a way out. We disabled aren't valued much in America. They make life hard for us with lack of Universal Healthcare and income. Most people don't get enough from disability to pay rent. #FightAmericanAbelismM4A-UBI
@Michelle M I support it too. In Stockton CA, they started a program like this and people seemed to bloom and develop so much with just a little extra money per month. It was pretty unsurprising to me, but also really inspiring to see it working so well
My brother-in-law was a Witness. Admittedly, I used to steal his JW books out of scientific curiosity. My favorite was "Reasoning From the Scriptures," which was basically a traveling salesman's guide, telling servicers how to respond to "I'm busy," how to worm your way in through the door, etc. Fascinating.
Once our neighborhood had kids from the school going door to door to get donations for the school. This was prime time for JWs to use their kids to get us to answer the door for them.
As someone who was raised Jewish and spent a lot of their early childhood learning Hebrew in Sunday school -- I really appreciate you breaking down the vowel system! I always knew that the vowels existed separately from the letters (and that letters meant to represent vowels, like Alef and Ayin, were silent), however I didn't realize -- or perhaps forgot? -- that it was for the purpose of adding them back into the text later on. Really cool to be reminded of that progression in language!
@@Leofwine “Matres lectionis” refers to consonant letters in the alphabet that are used to produce vowel sounds. These include the aforementioned Alef (silent but visually represents “A”), He/Hay, Waw/Vav, and Yod/Yud.

[He knows mom and Sophia will be busy washing dishes, and dad will be reading the newspaper, so if he's careful he can get the toy and hide it.]
"money can't buy happiness" is supposed to mean "don't lose track of things that are important in life, money isn't an end in and of itself". Love your friends and family, take time off for yourself, improve your community, that sort of thing. If someone is trying to tell you you shouldn't try to make enough money to live comfortably, they should go screw themselves. But equally, once you have enough money to live a good life, don't destroy yourself or others to get more.
The lack of money is a huge stressor and can cause mental health problems. With enough money you don't have these problems. Therefore, money can (somewhat) buy happiness.
Money buys temporary pleasures happiness is something you have to discover within yourself and trust me it's a long and rough road but those moments that last I'd never trade away .
@@scottyskywalker5768I partially agree with you, but sadly, in today's world, it becomes harder and harder to not rely on money for everything. Money may help some people pay the bills to keep their house, it may pay heatlcare and provide children with things they need, like books or school furniture and food so they may grow healthy and learn better. We shouldn't have to rely so much on money so we may live a good life :(
The way I've always heard "Money can't buy happiness" applied is that for the ultra rich hoarding tons of money won't make them happy so they'd be better off using their excess wealth to help others, not to try and shut down people being forced to choose between healthcare and rent.

I’m going to be looking for psychiatric help at some point and I urge anyone who’s been infected by this propaganda wether new or old to find help to get past it and become your true self.
Glad you got out, internet stranger! I was raised strictly Christian, so I can only empathize a bit with you, but even then. I'm 36 and still working on the anger I have for being lied to and ostracized. Good luck 🤞
I agree with the fact money is important and can help make you happy. When covid hit my local school district didn't take it seriously at all. So I pulled my son out of school and started to homeschool him. It wasn't a big deal for us because my husband made enough for me to stay home. I'm also able to go on vacation and attend college without debt. Do I still struggle with depression, yes. But not worrying about money and having to work insane long hours helps for sure.
Being JW, I think, helped push me towards the realization that I was trans. Born a girl in the religion yet I wanted to be able to actually have a role. I wanted to handle the mic or to give talks - only to realize that I couldn't. Beyond that, the role of women in general was aggravating to me. Being limited to taking care of a home and family as my greatest calling in life - I hated that - family is amazing, don't get me wrong, but I wanted more out of life.
So... you're "trans" because you don't like your role as a woman in this cult? I thought trans people wanted to abolish gender roles, not reinforce them by saying "I don't like this, thereby I am not a woman".
@@kinggangrel9520 I said it helped push me towards the realization. Not that I’m trans because of those roles. I would have been trans regardless of the cult’s influence - ironically the cult just made me start questioning sooner because of the irritation. I'm not trans but I did get infuriated that woman were not allowed to do talks. I felt smart and confident as a child. It ruined my hopes over time and I developed depression at 16. But I'm biting back now. I'm doing everything iv always wanted but It wasn't won without intense suffering.

15:30 "Love of money is the root of all evil" means that a willingness to harm others in order to make money is evil. It's good to have money but it should be a means to an end rather than an absolute goal.
about 11:000-11:26 . There was a trend on youtube years ago where teens where doing videos called "draw my life" they used a white board and made videos showing their life in high school or problems at home on a whiteboard. Since that was a trend, the watchtower is just copying it to keep it trendy and relatable with teens.
I remember having to take some form of philosophy as part of my gen ed in college. It wasn't always called "philosophy" but there was a list of classes that could satisfy the requirement and they were all based in philosophy, ethics, and/or critical thinking. Even though I took an English class, it was still taught by the philosophy profs and still had the same required readings, but required more essays.

That's actually a pretty useful method for adding those newfangled vowels to texts with an all consonant alphabet. And since they added the vowels to the top, when punctuation comes along, it can be added to the bottom, and eventually to the sides, for parentheses and brackets.
The interesting thing about they saying that "Money can't buy happiness" is it can be understood in different ways. Having more money won't necessarily make you happier, and focusing all of one's energy on making money for the sake of making money won't make you happy. As a suggestion to consider what really makes one happy, rather than focusing on accumulating more money/wealth thinking that's all you need it can be a good thing. Thing is it's hard to be happy when one lacks the means to obtain one's basic needs and a moderate amount of one's wants. In our society that means having money. So no, money doesn't buy happiness, but we need it to get the things we need to be happy. Saying that people should make just enough money so they can survive and serve someone else's agenda is just wrong on so many levels.
The thing is that money can buy happiness until reached a certain threshold, and then more money does nothing to your well being. The phrase "the love of money is the root of all evil" is because of another biblical phrase, "those who love money, can't be sated with money" (Eccl. 5,9), which refers to those who hoard money (there, verse 12) causing wealth inequality. I.e, these sayings are anti-capitalistic...
If their god can do anything, then that god can prove their own existence and present their case in a clear and concise manner while having it stand up to scrutiny. :3
I love my parents. We don't have a relationship together, but I will always love them. And I will always HATE that my father, when I was 10 years old, had to squeegee car windows on the highway and recycle cans in order for us to afford Taco Bell for dinner. Because pioneering was all that mattered. It was GOOD to be poor. That awful and unnecessary stress on them will always hurt my heart. Because, according to the religion, having money or assets was BAD. We would sneer at families that had (GASP) a home they owned and more than two rooms. And yeah, it's effed me up to this day.
I'm so glad I'm an ex jeovhas witness I agree with you I was so deeply depressed I have to take medication now and all I was so unhappy in the cult and I wanted to sleep a lot and take my own life in the cult but now I'm out of this cult I'm surviving but I'm still scared for life being brainwashed by them people life is better with out them.
So, what if someone from the Jehovah's witness wants to go to school to became a pastor in their organization. "Saying that education isn't important." So, what do they have to say about that, Owen. Please let me know, if you have any experience with that.I can relate because my mom's cousin parents are in the Jehovah witnesses.
I went to school long enough to get a degree, and never took a single philosophy class. However, I do remember my anthropology class seriously shaking up my religious indoctrination. I went and asked my mother about it, and was told that what I was learning was not real science. Real science was in the Bible. This particular prof actually had us read chapters in the Bible as a compare and contrast for a short paper, then spent the rest of the term letting us learn hands on. Using real human remains and fossils. I slowly realized that I had been lied to my entire life. There IS such a thing as scientific evidence that is unbiased. I went into this class feeling like I knew for sure because I knew the Bible. Our comparative read on two chapters in genesis, and the subsequent paper I wrote, well I sounded like a religious nut bag. This teacher did not poke fun at me, he didn't berate me for missing the point. He even gave me a passing grade on the paper for doing the assignment as asked. However, he kind of decided to become a friend, especially when he saw that I was fairly bright in reading and comprehension, had a mind like a steel trap, in addition to having a pretty logical way of thinking. He saw me for what I was, a fairly intelligent person who had been badly indoctrinated from infancy. He spent so much time, both in and out of class, showing me that my questioning brain was not sinful, but something that needed answers, and I could actually find those answers. He never just told me anything, but he did show me how to look for answers, and trust my own logic. Just that one term in that class, gave me the courage to continue learning. I did take another class with him just because he was fucking awesome and I loved anthropology. At the same time, I took it upon myself to learn more. This has been over 20 years ago now. Not only have I left my religion, but I have never given up the addiction to learning. Every new scientific study that comes out, I can't read it fast enough. This one professor taught me to free my mind and my entire life, from a lifetime of indoctrination and brainwashing. THIS is exactly why cults shun higher education.
On the subject of money and happiness, I saw a study once that the result was, getting more money increases happiness as it helps to fill needs and provide security. Not having to worry about starvation, or homelessness, being able to pay for healhcare, etc. But the increase of happiness is not linear, someone getting a $100 per week starts getting $200 will have a greater increase in happiness than someone who gets $1 million and starts getting $4 million on the long term.
Dude I'm so glad I found your channel. I love like 90% of what you say which is like 75% more than most people. Also I find comfort in seeing others break free from all indoctrination of every kind. I remember my younger brother watching something like this when he was a little younger. It was called Blessed, and it was a Catholic cartoon. I don’t remember exactly what they said in it, but it kind of followed the same formula for this Jehovahs Witness cartoon if I remember correctly. I feel so bad for kids who have to grow up with this.

Agree that some of the components of the financial advice to teens were good, but the underlying message of deprivation of fun and "frivolous" spending would cause a lot of guilt when you actually have some fun or treat yourself to a non-essential.
We have some kind of congregation near where I live and the whole thing with lectures is exactly what they did except for that a lot of people are actually elderly women and most of the time it's them speaking
I took one philosophy class in college, it’s an elective course. Some tough subjects are discussed in there and it helps you look at life and situations with a multiple perspectives. We did have a women in the class that was in her late teens and I’m not sure what form of Christianity she subscribed to. She always wore dresses or long skirts and was engaged to a man that her parents set her up with. Well the topic of abortion finally came up and she lost it, she broke down, couldn’t form words for an argument, and was furious we would even bring up something like that. She ended up writing a paper on abortion and all her sources were religious science websites. I honestly felt bad for her. She was super nice but you could never get below surface level with her. I hope she found her way out.
Dang…that’s just horrible and sad. I’ve literally had professors say that anything touching on religion if in a science class will immediately be deleted, like discussion posts, though I’m sure it applies to other assignments and such, and I’m sure people like her are why that rule exists. Did your prof do anything about the fact she used those sites or her outburst in class? Something like that over at my community college, depending on the prof, could get you thrown out for disruption, and while I’m sure it wouldn’t help pull her way out of there, I can’t imagine that they would’ve done nothing. I’m not trying to judge her, was just curious what went down. Edit: spelling and adding info
I can totally identify with getting flustered & frustrated when trying to speak or argue on a topic I feel very strongly about. Any rhetorical skill I might have just evaporates. I would disagree very much with her views on that topic, but I do understand the communication breakdown.

My bank account wasn’t totally empty, when I went to the bank to withdraw all my cash, the teller asked me how I wanted it, heads or tails 😂…
“Money can’t buy happiness” but wheat Pennie’s make me happy :D

Aren't those vowel diacritics called this technical term - matres lectionis?
@@Leofwine “Matres lectionis” refers to consonant letters in the alphabet that are used to produce vowel sounds. These include the aforementioned Alef (silent but visually represents “A”), He/Hay, Waw/Vav, and Yod/Yud.

Money CAN buy happiness, it CAN’T buy me love, but allows me to rent it buy the hour.
Precisely.
"I know money doesn't buy happiness, but it buys everything else, so I need it, okay?"

Money can't buy happiness, it can't. What it can buy, is the time and leisure to find happiness.

Owen said, "I'll be rich with your mom." OMG, I DIED! 🤣
The way I've always heard "Money can't buy happiness" applied is that for the ultra rich hoarding tons of money won't make them happy so they'd be better off using their excess wealth to help others, not to try and shut down people being forced to choose between healthcare and rent.
Owen, you’ve never heard the other part of that old adage: Money can’t buy happiness, but it sure make’s misery a lot easier.
I bet the rich omitted the latter part out to keep everyone else below them.

Lots of the men worked multiple jobs, as a result.
I’m always watching because I was raised in the witness ways, and I like to see the propaganda that was basically used. I was old school and this Caleb and Sophia series came out when I was already starting to pull away in my late teens. It’s good to see the connections, because it explains my antisocial behavior and what the indoctrination did to damage me.
I have a similar story but I was Mormon instead.
So... you're "trans" because you don't like your role as a woman in this cult? I thought trans people wanted to abolish gender roles, not reinforce them by saying "I don't like this, thereby I am not a woman".
@@kinggangrel9520 I said it helped push me towards the realization. Not that I’m trans because of those roles. I would have been trans regardless of the cult’s influence - ironically the cult just made me start questioning sooner because of the irritation.
I do think archaic structures like that should be done away with. Limiting women and what they can/should hope to accomplish in life is wrong.
I'm not trans but I did get infuriated that woman were not allowed to do talks. I felt smart and confident as a child. It ruined my hopes over time and I developed depression at 16. But I'm biting back now. I'm doing everything iv always wanted but It wasn't won without intense suffering.
I was completely frustrated as a girl in this religion. I had so many questions as a kid. Why wasn't I allowed to give a talk or even hold a mic...or wear pants!?!... Tight or otherwise!? about 11:000-11:26 .

Hey, dad, instead of telling me about Jehovah helping people, maybe you could help me with these pronunciations?
11:30 - think that's because kids are much higher value to indoctrinate than teens - their minds a much more malleable
Being a former jehovahs witness I feel like we suffered from some very specific types of torment and manipulation. I thank you on behalf of every single kid who has hope and breaks free thanks to these videos, adults too
Great vid owen! Really like the way you breakdown the history of yhwh. It always astounds me how many religious people don't even try to look into stuff like that. I get why they don't, considering it lays out pretty obviously that their religion isn't really as special as they think it is
I remember my younger brother watching something like this when he was a little younger.
