We've been doing the $20.00 engine for life oil changes with our 2017 Equinox. After some bad GM shop experiences, I have decided to change the oil myself from now on. That being said, that oil filter placement is criminal! Oh, and I had to watch a RUclips video to learn how to change the headlights in the 2017 Equinox... the headlights! Ha!
Yeah I did a headlight and taking out the mudguard to replace a headlight behind the tire is criminal!
Thanks man I really appreciate it. It helped me a lot. I was able to change my oil the first time with your help. I went to the auto parts store and they gave me the wrong parts. I showed them your video and then I finally got the right parts. Thanks again
Glad it helped
Thanks for the quick and easy to follow tutorial! :)
Thanx bro. Im going to try it out now. First time. Wish me luck!
It’s easy if you got all the tools. I also never lifted my car.
Good vid and thanks for posting. 😊 -- Please do not guess on your oil amount. The engine is designed down to the tenths on how many quarts for a reason. Too much/too little can be bad for the engine over time. Newer engines have less tolerances to -ish amounts. It is your engine and we are all responsible for how we treat our stuff. Thanks again for the vid. ❤
if you follow this video you will be fine
If you have a regular 32 mm socket it will work. You don’t need to go buy an oil filter socket if you have a regular one already. They try to tell you that you absolutely need an oil filter socket. When I used to change my oil on my Pontiac I just used a regular socket all the time.
Thanks. Helped me this was a peace of cake
Thank you sir, very helpful.
Glad it helped
Great video very descriptive appreciate it
Glad it was helpful!
did you use a DEXOS 5W30 or just regular 5W30?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge :)
Out of curiosity, what is the purpose of leaving space for the ring on the oil filter?
The placement of the oil filter is… diabolical
#facts
Great video...clear instructions and great video taking..
Lad to help out
I’m not sure but aren’t other style filters supposed to be fill with oil before you install them? Never seen this style does that step not apply on this model car or am I just wrong all together
yes, you are 100% correct the other type of filter you need to fill with oil. this one is completely different , so no need
Muy buen video aunque no hablo inglés lo entendí perfectamente. Gracias.
que bueno amigo. talves realizó un vídeo en español
Thank you
Gloves? Proper torque on drain plug & filter?
I have a 2016 Equinox LTZ is there much difference in the process of changing oil from the 2017 model??
No, it's the same vehicle just different years built. Usually they will keep the model the same for 5 years, then change it up
Thank you for sharing.
What size when u take out the oil filter because I tried to with the 15/16 and it would come out
This is different from a 2018 equinox
Different filter and location
Need one on 2018
Can’t find one one youtube
Are you sure it’s different location ?
It's under the car next to the oil drain
Good video.
Glad you enjoyed it

Tech & Design thank you!
How did you get under the suv. Did you raise it
18 foot pounds on the filter housing.
easy way to reset your oil just pump your gas pedal 3x it will reset it automatically 🙂
Well done.
Great video but what size socket thing did you use to take the filter off????
You really just needed to watch 1 minute of the video to see everything you need. But anyways watch minute 1:08
Apologies if I offended you but my car was literally on the ramps when I seen the filter was above instead of under so I fast forwarded to when you were taking it off, I should have took it slow lol...thanks though. Great video
No offense. No worries. I made sure to show the entire process to make it easy for you guys. Glad you are doing this yourself instead of being scammed at a mechanic
Do you know what the torque specs are for tightening the filter and the drain plug or do you just wing it?
@@curemeister7443 I winged it, the filter will kind of lock when it's tight
change ur oil early cheaper in the long run
The vehicle recommends full synthetic oil. It shouldn’t just be what “you recommend”. You should always use what the manufacturer recommends.
I guess you didn’t watch the video ?
Actually, per Google and GM they recommend a shitty 5W 30 synthetic blend,,, Personally, I would use full synthetic, leaving 1 quart less and adding Lucas full synthetic oil stabilizer ,, there's no way I'm using a synthetic blend, so no you should not always use what the manufacturer recommends you should use the best in my opinion that would be mobile one full synthetic 5W 30 & 1 quart full synthetic oil stabilizer again just my opinion😊
Oy need a tool part list as I have NONE of them
Here is the list for you: ruclips.net/video/S0ec1cQA6eI/видео.html
Remember to put more oil in it every week cuz these engines burn a shit ton of oil😂
👍ty
Thank you
😃
