Idea: Let a third-party company make a proper pistol-shaped SS86 Megatron and sell him in two parts. Can't enforce the rule if the toy as an item is only the top half of the figure. They would have to treat each half of the toy on an individual and separate basis.
Yeah, but then they would have to make some bs third mode for both half's to make probably, like they did with WfC Tripticon, or do something like Unicron where they sold the head and other parts in an upgrade kit
Mark my words: third parties are already working on a CHUG scale Megatron for an SS86 collection.
The risk of legal notices versus the sales to a (justifiably) disgruntled consumer segment is absolutely worth taking.
The stated reason from several 3p companies on why they don't make CHUG scale stuff is Hasbro would absolutely go after them for being a direct competitor.

I don't know.... 3rd party always do legends scale and mp scale. They don't dare to do chug scale maybe because it's too dangerous. Hasbro is watching 😂 that's why never see see chug scale G1 transformers before. Some available in chug scale but it's always a different design than G1.
It's like they know they shouldn't touch chug scale G1 or they will be in trouble with Hasbro.
Edit. But yes I agree about making the figure 2 parts to the toy gun law thing. But like I said. I never see or heard a 3rd party do a chug scale G1 cartoon accurate figure before.
I have very fond memories of the G1 Megatron toy. My father, who passed away just before Christmas last year, purchased it for my birthday way back in 1985 (we were on holiday in Blackpool). I had no issues whatsoever with his alternate mode. It made perfect sense at the time, and I don't recall anyone, certainly here in the UK, ever questioning it. Different times...
I never questioned it either as a kid. Always thought it was cool. Soundwave as a cassette player was awesome too.
If you turned into a pistol, why would you ever transform? I mean, Wheelie was a triple changer that changed from car to robot to hair dryer, but you never see him to it on camera because why would he?
Why not make him an artillery platform like Galvatron?

I've said this before this is inevitable, All they need to do is make the kibble look like his g1 back kibble, have the fusion cannon have the same look and include OG gun mode as an accessory and people would be fine with it. I genuinely think those who are expecting a mass retail transformer to use his gun form are reaching due to legalities of selling that type of product, it'd have to be heavily altered like they did in Classics just to pass the legal BS
@Oma_Ender I grew up on him being a Tank in Armada, and the G2 Purple is wonderfully 80's (like me!) So I would enjoy getting that color scheme somewhere down the line as well. An accessory of the og alt mode is sufficient. I get why fans who grew up with G1 want it to be the authentic original. Nut there are always factors that change a franchise. We can not go back, only forward.
Me too. I want them to hide all the tank kibble to create the illusion that he transformers into a gun. I’m also gonna keep out on watch for a gun fan mode when he releases.

If we already know the alt-mode is compromised by modern sensibilities, they damned well better figure out a perfect robot mode. At that scale, my first thought would be to fold the treads into a body cavity to conceal them. Masterpiece and 3rd party figures have folding panels with folding panels.
I agree that it should include a miniature scale G1 form to be held by other bots.

They could probably hide his treads in the legs like they did with the Monocrat Megatank. And then they could use the upper body to be the upper part of the tank
What "modern sensibilities" are you talking about? All this was done 30 years ago. They passed these laws because law enforcement killed multiple kids who were playing with realistic looking toy guns.

It's because they are rightfully disappointed that JUST ONE TIME they could deliver Megatron in his gun mode, even if somehow disguised just for screen accuracy for Studio Series 86. It's understandable why he cannot, but I get it. I'm not losing sleep personally. I just think it would have been SO COOL.

"Toys" can't look like real guns. So don't sell or promote it as a toy. Sell and promote it as an "adult collectible" instead, since those who would be most interested would be an adult now if they were around between 1984 and 1986. I wonder if that would get around the law? Look at all the adult themed stuff they sell at stores like Hot Topic or Spencers. Things in there some could construe as much more controversial. What do you think?
I doubt anyone in the government would allow such a loophole. Simply because kids would find a way to get them regardless of the laws.

Those nerf guns aren't called guns. They are specifically shaped unrealistically and are in bright colors... the last megatron that was a gun was basically a nerf gun. And no one liked it. But tank megatron sells.. because it's. cool.

I have no problems with G1 Megatron being a gun. G1 Tank Megatron is not considered canon. Hasbro's Japanese partner, TakaraTomy, should get to work on their version of Studio Series G1 Megatron and make him into a gun so that way Transformers fans from outside of Japan can order Studio Series G1 Gun Megatron from overseas. G1 Megatron is SUPPOSED to be a gun. That's what makes G1 Megatron iconic. Fun facts: Japan does not have any realistic toy gun ban laws and that is a good thing. I don’t want to see another tank mode. Why not just make Megatron be a cannon or turret of some sort, like a large howitzer cannon. If a tank is nothing but a gun on treads/wheels, just make him a cannon like Galvatron just without the tank treads. You could even have other Decepticons stand behind him and use his cannon/turret mode to fire.
This is a surprise. But, for me, as long as Megatron turns into something that can shoot or kill someone, that's a win in my book.

I'll preface my statement with I'm not upset. I have enjoyed Megatron's various modes from G2 and all throughout the Generations line of the last decade. However if they are going to do SS86. It comes with an expectation. Frankly, I'd just rather it not be done at all than done wrong. Just my two cents.

I do think we should retcon him into being a fusion cannon version of an anti aircraft artillery cannon because it makes more sense plus it would be in line with the mode he turned into as galvatron .

A new Megs is fine, even in tank mode, but it's a mistake to market this as a SS '86 figure... because it's not.
I'm okay with Megs being a tank as long as his bot mode looks accurate. What I hope though is that it contains a small Megatron gun that is the right size for Starscream and other CHUG characters to wield.
In the end doing a fully accurate cartoon Megs is impossible not just because of toy safety laws, but because of mass shifting.
They already made an accurately sized megatron gun-mode for the weapon and accessory pack that came with the Selects Centurion bot, but that thing is hard to get your hands on nowadays (not to mention expensive) so hopefully they'll include something like that at least.
I love the assurance that it won't be the same mold as before when other Studio Series 86 figures reuse mold despite inaccuracies.
We all knew going in that SS86 Megatron has a huge hurdle with his alt mode.
I think the best compromise is to do some SS86 Prime level engineering to retain animation accuracy. Then have his gun mode as an in-scale accessory (along with blast effects, and the various other props/weapons he's used). Maybe even a targetmaster version of himself, who knows.
Having his gun mode as an in-scale accessory is really the only feasible way to include it in any capacity. As long as they do that, and make the robot mode look excellent, I'd be happy. It also wouldn't hurt to integrate slots for Laserbeak in the forearm.
This is what I was thinking.
My compromise is that the bot mode looks right and we get a megatron gun accessory for the other decepticons. And being a tank, this is a high hurdle, we will see.
G1 Megatron is my favourite Transformer of all time. I love the character and his gun mode, but I am someone who does like the tank as his new alternate mode. I’m very excited to see how the Studio Series figure turns out.
Rather than a tank, a much better alt mode would be a self propelled artillery cannon, as it is much closer to a gun and much easier to hide two small wheels and a set of stabilisers, than a turret and treads.
I was around back in the day, remember the when I got the original Optimus Prime and Powermaster Optimus Prime, but never owned a Megatron toy until Action Masters (which funny enough had Megatron with a Tank) and then G2 Megatron.
So that all said, as long as he looks good in Robot Mode and has his scaled down original alt mode for others to use as a weapon as an included accessory I’ll likely be more than happy.
On a side note, I also really loved how they did Megatron in Transformers: Animated, and I would absolutely love to see that figure get modernized in Legacy.
A gun is a gun I’m an 80s G and yes it would be nice but it is what it is.
The thing about SS86, is to make a toyline that IS movie accurate, I understand the implications about legal matters and whatnot, but I don't think it will sell well if they give him a tank altmode, it goes against what SS86 stands for.
Megatron being a tank makes so much more sense, but that isn’t what he was in the movie. Ergo - the only proper studio 86 Megatron has to be a gun.
I like how some of the recent Megatron figures have fan mods that turn them into guns. Like a secret 3rd form not included in the instructions.

True. Him and Soundwave shrinked when they transformed. Which was weird. Though Soundwave and his cassette tape characters are probably my favorite Transformer figure as a kid. Just awesome.
Hasbro just doesn’t want some kid to get shot by the cops for playing with a gun Megatron. Sadly it would happen a least once if not more. I want a gun Megatron, but you really have to worry about a kid being killed by cops over it. It shouldn’t be blamed on hasbro, but we all know the cops wouldn’t take responsibility for it if it happened, and news media would blame hasbro and the parents and maybe even the kid if it did happen. Sad, but it’s the reality we live in.

If you flip it upside down in vehicle mode, it's a 100% accurate, unlicensed Walther P38. And when you flip him rightside up, he says "Megatron Attack."
If he's not a Walther P38, it isn't 86 Megatron. 86 Megatron is a gun... end of story. We live in a world now where people can't be held accountable for their own actions, always a finger to point elsewhere, or a company to drag into a courtroom to blame for the actions of an idiot. It's sad this is the state of things now. If Takara produces an SS86 scaled Megatron that becomes a gun, I'd happily import it.

I’m actually OK with a tank version as long as two things happen. His robot mode looks 100% screen accurate (that means no treads anywhere) and that he comes with a gun that can be held by other characters that looks like his gun mode from the movie.

I think the clear answer here is to just make him a partsformer where the tank is a shell that fits over a folded-up robot. It's not ideal, but it does solve both problems without sacrificing either mode.
Honestly, I don't care what megatron's alt mode will be. The only thing I care about is that they do not use the siege mold. They have gotten their money's worth out of it. Let it die.
I have read this a lot. I do hope they have a new mold with this tank transformation or a lot of people will be even more upset than they already are.
They've reused molds too many times already in SS86 with Starscream, Soundwave, Blaster, and Springer. Those just don't work even with the low effort retooling they did for them. They still don't match the screen accurate aesthetic (and entire point of SS86). So the fact that laws are literally preventing doing a SS86 Megatron correctly and mandating changes in this case it seems like a get out of jail free card for Hasbro to be lazy again and reuse a mold. Again.

I feel like an artillery emplacement mode would work as an in-between for his tank and gun mode incarnations while also offering continuity with Galvatron's artillery mode. his legs could form the rear part and bipod(?) at the front, and his arms and torso could form the main barrel, sort of borrowing from the G1 incarnation but also doing something interesting with the legs
Megatron has been a tank since the early 90s. He was only a gun for like 3 years in the past 4 decades. People need to get over it. You can always get the mp or 3rd party versions that are still a gun.
The solution is to pull a Legacy Tidal Wave: make him transform into a tank because that’s what he “can” be and it’s what makes sense. But as he transforms into tank mode, the “shrunken” gun mode can transform out of one of more parts and then be held by other figures. That way, technically both alt modes are available. I believe one of the Machinima series had megatron as a triple changer: tank and a kind of space rifle.
I totally agree with you on everything. And I am concerned about how accurate the robot mode if he turns into a tank. But I'm an "optimist" when it comes to SS86 cuz I love how they did Prime. Again, truck does not equal tank but still. And a G2 Megs would be pretty sweet. Love the design.
In my head, Megatron is both a Tank and a Gun. SS86 Megatron can have the Tank Mode, just include an accessory of his Gun Mode for SS86 Starscream can hold.
I think a tank just seem too pedestrian for some fans. If you look at the videos of non-fans reacting to the animated movie, most are surprised that Megatron turns into a gun. It was hardly questioned, it was just a cool unexpected moment for casual viewers.

I’m OK with Megs being a tank, but like many people have mentioned his tank parts need to be hidden, he would need a mini Megatron gun to weld and a purple mace of course!

Plus they could take some inspiration from the Devastation design in order to pull the G1 / tank hybrid look off. It would just be a matter of how to get kibble to compress. Plus the could have an extension come out from his fusion cannon to get a tank cannon to work.
Actually both a tank and a gun fit his personality perfectly. Remember, the Decepticons are, as their name implies, deceptive. Soundwave hides as a cassette player. Reflector as a camera. They are robots in disguise. The gun mode has a physical use sure, but it can be concealed. While a tank is destructive on wheels, where are you hiding that? Yes. Megatron has used deception multiple times before.

Yes! I think G2 Megatron is iconic enough to justify his own figure. I just wouldn’t want it to be a remold of SS86 Megatron.
TBH, I understand why Hasbro launched the studio series Megatron is a tank instead of the PPK. Lets just say experience of me and my baby brother at 8 an 7 years old, respectively. In 1984, we were going home from Chicago to the Philippines. Our gramdmother gave our early Birthday gifts me the Knight Rider Knight 2000 voice car and my brother Shockwave. Now, at the airport, as passengers, we placed our stuff at the xray machine... even the toys. Unfortunately, my bro layed Shockwave at gun mode. And airport security confiscated the toy. Gilbert, my brother cried all the way to the plane. But before takeoff, security returned the toy to my dad tru the captain of the plane... when we were in mid flight. Security in the 80s maybe strict, but once confirmed its a toy they returned it (it was pre 911 after all) . Now the toy I don't mind its a tank. Otherwise the strict laws of different countries will prevent it being sold. #JustSaying
As a younger fan, I can tolerate Megatron having different alt modes since I didn’t grow up with G1. There’s literally no solution that makes sense for Hasbro to give him a screen-accurate WP38 mode that they can sell at mass retail without getting into legal trouble.
Admittedly, a tank makes more sense than a gun. But if they design his bot mode to look as close to the animation as possible, there really shouldn't be a problem - especially if they package a small Megatron pistol accessory with him for other toys to hold, and for people to pretend he's transforming down into a small weapon for them to wield.

This is the best approach. Sadly people will agree to this and still complain saying he isn't close enough and nit-picking when, if you look at it, none of the ss86 are really that close to the animation.

I think most have accepted that we're not getting Guntron. As long as he's animation accurate to the bot mode, he'll sell. At this point his alt mode is irrelevant. Just as long as he's he's around kingdom Galvatron size, he'll be super popular. And these are all reasons why his SS concept is so wildly successful
If he comes with a small “Man from Uncle” blaster that can fit into SS86 Starscream’s hand, I’ll be satisfied.

Megatron can be done as a tank and keep his same robot mode without adding a lot of extra back kibble. It might make the transformation a little more involved but it can be done.
People need to relax, its never happening. All i want is a robot mode that has no visible kibble, a robust fusion cannon on his right arm, a smaller cannon( maybe) on his back on the right side, a head sculpt that matches the cartoon. At this point i still have maketoys Hedgemon with my earth mode decepticons.
FWIW I loved the G2 tank Megatron when I was a kid. He was huge. As a kid I didn’t really care. Now as an adult collector, a gun mode would be great (like MP-36). If they just add an orange cap it would be fine. I’d certainly concede that.
If they make a picture perfect robot mode, ill accept the compromise. You need the gun barrel in the back no no visbility of the treads. I hope the treads are removable for ss86. I am for sure buying the figure. I dont want to be disappointed

The biggest issue is Hasbro and also store's for selling it don't wanna be sued by the family if and when a certain incident happens with a kid or even an adult with this outside.

I'm a G1 fan since day one and I can understand the tank mode due to country /states rules. We have this rules in Canada as well. As long he's look good in robot mode that would be good. Gun mode to fit in starscream hand should be mandatory. If not, I'll just keep Siege/earthrise one and use the money for another Transformers figures. The main Hasbro challenge here, is make a toy attractive for people like they do with Springer SS86 which is fantastic figure compare to the siege one. Will see. Thanks for your video 🙂
As much as it sucks, it's not like TF fans or maybe Hasbro themselves can't/won't find a way to make a hidden alt mode like they did for CW Megatron, BBM Megatron and WFC Shockwave

Always had a problem with Megatron as a pistol. He was primarily dependent on another to discharge him in that mode.

Ahh the transformers fandom, the only group of people who'll argue unironically that children should have a realistic toy gun.
All jokes aside, they probably could've made it a haslab- although considering Megatron is one of the biggest characters, it'd be unwise to limit it to a haslab. Every kid is going to want a toy of megatron to fight their optimus, and as big as the collector scene seems, most transformers are still bought for kids. A megatron that turns into a gun is unrealistic, and no one should expect it. The fact that anyone expects it now is baffling to me.
Haslab's are still considered retail class releases. Hasbro just gaslit their consumers into thinking it's anything beyond limited run orders.
Gen Select releases outside the US are regular retail in Canada, for example.

Good video. Honestly I've been seeing more people complaining about fans unhappy about tank Megs than actual people unhappy about tank Megs. Personally I don't think they should bother making a studio 86 Megs. They cannot do it accurately for various reasons and legitimate reasons . If they want to release a size compatible Megatron to go with SS86 OP then just stick a taller tank Megs in a different subline
It still astounds me that people don't realize how thin the ice that people want Hasbro to dance on for their whims, how volatile the minefield is.
There are SO many reasons that Hasbro and Takara feel it's really not worth it. And it's also hilarious that people think what worked in the 2000s, namely Classics and the orange caps, are gonna fly now. Heck, the latter BARELY worked at all.
G1 Megatron is a great litmus test for figuring out who cannot simply let go of the past, want the present to conform to their nostalgia, and cannot be bothered to look around outside their windows for a second.

I have a solution.
Hasbro could partner with Takara for the G1 accurate figure to be manufactured in Japan and offered exclusively as a online order / mail away collecters item. They could do some sort of age verification or waiver or whatever they need and the price point would be slightly higher as an exclusive figure but cheaper than a masterpiece. They could do the orange plug (with shoddy glue) thing like with the masterpiece.

Enough is enough with the idiotic "no realistic toy gun" law. This was never as big as a problem as they made it out to be. I personally had the original toy and miraculously managed to not get shot by police mistaking it for a real gun.
Right now, in stores all across America, there are airsoft / bb guns that are EXACT replicas of a multitude of modern popular handguns. Couldn't one of those just as easily be mistaken for a real gun?
It's past time to revisit that law. Have companies put a damn warning label on the box and an orange plug in the barrel (that we can remove) and give us G1 accurate Megatron! If it's not a Walther P38, don't make a "the movie" SS86 version.

They can be and are still purchased for children.
They can be and are used to commit crimes in lieu of a real gun.
My point is that the law designed to stop people from having realistic looking toy guns for the intent to stop the rare accident of a child being harmed by having a realistic looking facsimile of a firearm or a criminal from using one in commission of a crime is negated by the existence of so many alternatives that it renders said law highly ineffective and logically nonsensical.
So again, I agree bb guns are not toys, what's your point?
@@JohnnyOmnia79 My point is that hunting guns are not in the same category as "toys". The law applies to said toys, they don't want them to be mistaken for real guns. I know that's what you just discussed but it isn't enough of a reason for the law to change on it, it's all about the children's safety at the end of the day, and toy companies like Hasbro don't want the flak for putting out a toy that looks too similar to a real gun. To wake up to the news and find a kid losing his/her life for a "toy" mistaken to be a real gun is a reality I wish on no one.
I swear if I had a dollar for every time someone replied to one of my you tube comments with a response pointing out something that I was never arguing in the first place without ever addressing my actual point while (likely) simultaneously believing they somehow "got" me;

Don't seem to recall ever mentioning those. If moving the goal post makes you feel better that's fine. It still doesn't change the fact that the law was hastily enacted as knee jerk reaction to a handful of incidents and didn't really do anything other than make some people feel better. There have still been kids killed or injured in similar situations to the 80's cases, despite the law being in effect and the toy in question in compliance.

Absolutely ridiculous. They could've made it a Hasbro Pulse Generations Selects Exclusive figure, Commander Class with all the U.N.C.L.E. attachments, and just sold as many as people wanted and everyone would have been happy, as the figure would be in robot mode in the box. Just absolutely ridiculous. Very disappointed with Hasbro's problem here. Maybe Takara will make us one that has his proper alt mode. Keep up the good work, bro! 👊😎🍻

Because it's not unreasonable to imagine Hasbro releasing a cut of the film where AI replaced those shots. Studios are already using AI to (poorly) upscale existing film releases to 4k. Why not throw in some midjourney prompts?

While i think a tank is better suited to Megatron, i would like to see them try to attempt to do the gun mode again.
Transformers is a world brand, unfortunately, the US law going to ruin the 86 series. I can accept Megatron transform to whatever but NOT for the 86 Movie. Within the Movie, Megatron do transform to a gun and nothing can change that. Just hoping Takaratomy side can do an exclusive Gun version and selling in area that not suffer with the US toy law😢

They will include a gun accessory that other figures can hold. Which is actually more accurate due to mass shifting logic than him just turning into a gun that's bigger than starscream's jet mode. Think of it as a silent triple changer

⚠️Tanks are too common. Blitzwing, Warpath and Brawl are tanks. If Megatron isn’t allowed to become a gun, then he should become a modern day artillery cannon that you see in the army. It continues the trend when Galvatron transforms into a futuristic cannon. OR maybe Hasbro can do this: Copy what they did with Siege Shockwave. Make Megatron’s alt-mode into a “spaceship” but sneakily have a gun design by flipping the spaceship upside down and after making some minor adjustments, you have Megatron in gun mode. Maybe not an exact P-38 but a generic gun mode.

I don’t quite get how “gun laws” itself get in the way, since realistic-ish toy model bb guns in black still sell on market legally and sell decently, with at most they have a orange tip, and I’m not sure what laws would even prevent Megatron from being a gun at all. So I’m not sure why they don’t do that for Megatron. He can be made a gun without making him Neon, can’t he? Just make the tip or barrel orange. Megatron is no diffetnet of a case than another realistic BB gun that you can find, except now with pannal lines. Heck in Walmart you can find a real gun, and tell the dif between that and a toy.
Or they don’t even need to make him look like a super realistic Walter gun, just make him into a random laser gun that happened to have a scope and silencer.

The same toy laws preventing Megatron from being a gun have been in place for thirty years, I genuinely have no idea why anyone is surprised by this. That said, I'm sure he'll come with some accessory for figures to wield a tiny version of him, which I think would be a perfectly reasonable compromise for a gun Megatron
They cannot call a Megatron tank a SS86 Megatron. That tank alt mode has no nostalgia! Never has, never will. They found a way for Shockwave’s gun mode with Siege Shockwave. Why couldn’t they do the same for Megatron?
That's because Shockwave is an unrealistic, sci-fi laser gun that they can turn upside down and say it's a ship. Same with Titans Return Sixshot.
Megatron is different, he transforms into a realistic gun: the Walther P-38 pistol. You can't turn it upside down and say it's a space ship when it's clearly not.
Perhaps what they can do is make the 'official' alt mode be a half-transformed mess that is a 'Cybertronian' vehicle of some sort but when you transform it properly, it's a gun. Though maybe a more generic looking gun that's not exactly a Walther P-38, so as to not push their luck too much.
Argh. Now I need to hunt down a Siege Shockwave, as I don't know what the heck the alternate mode of Bumblebee movie one is supposed to be.

I don’t know if you have seen an illustration roaming the Internet. Megatron is all big and looks like a Cybertronian battle station, and Starscream is using it. That could have been Megs’ alt mode, and easily have a hidden third transformation (gun mode).

A partsformer, tank transforms into good-looking G1 Megatron, and part of the tank mode becomes a weapon platform on tankthreads. Ofcourse a smaller gunmode Megatron will be included for Starscream to recreate that scene that made Megatron the original Targetmaster

I do believe that Hasbro can deliver in giving us as fans a great figure with some compromises that will over shadow what is missing or what can be performed. I believe they can do it either way, as a tank or gun mode. Of course, fans will want the the gun mode! For me, I would much rather have the gun but I have grown to love the tank as well just long as it has the concept to the original G1 Megatron! As a tank, I feel like they can take a trick or 2 from SS86 Optimus Prime. They could take the tank treads and flip them to the inside of his legs & arms! And take ideas from MP figure or from other tank figure to help with process. For the gun, I think they should paint the ends (front & back) of Megatron's fusion cannon red to blend in with his color scheme but something that significant to know that its a toy and not real gun! Correct me if I'm wrong but I think there are stories of Megatron's past gun mode being used in ways to commit robberies and that why Hasbo went away with the gun mode. Just like SLAG is now being called SLUG cause SLAG in another country stands for a hore/ prostitute. And I understand them for not wanting their brand or product to have anything negative associated with the business, product and not have an effect on growth or legacy.
Am I lame for liking Titans Return Megatron? You know as soon as Shockwave mastered the technology, Megs would have been demanding a couple of powerful alt modes ASAP. Plus Megatron's jet fighter mode resembling Gobots Leader 1's was pretty cool

I love the idea of making Megatron transforming into a space cannon almost identical looking to the original Man From UNCLE Walther P-38 special alt mode.
