    If the Patriots believed Drake Maye is going to be an elite QB there’s no reason why they should have traded #3.

    You can stockpile all the picks you want. If you don’t have a QB, you haven’t even started rebuilding. If Maye is a stud, they won. If he’s not, then they didn’t. It’s literally that simple.

    • @ethanstechworld207
      @ethanstechworld207 Месяц назад +1

      I respectfully completely disagree. This is why teams stay bad. They say “we’ve gotta get the QB, we’ve gotta get the QB” but they haven’t built a respectable offensive line and receiving core before they get the QB. They get the QB and then panic that they don’t have an offensive line. The QB fails because of this and then 3 or 4 years later their right back where they started looking for another QB because they didn’t put the other one in the best position to succeed.

    • @britneyystaples91
      @britneyystaples91 Месяц назад +1

      @@ethanstechworld207 You need a QB tho lol. Teams stay bad because they miss on the QB. If you stack a team without a QB your gunna win just enough games to not have a good enough draft pick for a QB but not win enough to sniff the playoffs. The Pats dont need a full rebuild because their defense is stacked. They only need to rebuild the offensive side of the ball. If they had a starting caliber QB, a wr1 and a solid left tackle their rebuild would be done because they have WR2s, a solid slot wr, an elite runningback and a good tightend. So they drafted Drake Maye to hopefully solve the QB problem, they drafted 2 WRs who were both projected top 90 picks one with a high floor one with a high ceiling and they drafted a tackle who can play left tackle, another tightend who slipped in the draft and a guard. If Maye works out, and one of the 2 WRs becomes a WR1 "i think Baker will" and that offensive tackle works out their rebuild is done lol. If Maye works out, one of the wrs works out but the olineman is just a depth piece than they can draft a left tackle in round 1 next year to finish the oline. Maye will sit for 1 year to give him time to develop and also give all the young WRs time to develop "they also drafted 2 WRs in last years draft" so by the time Maye is ready all these young WRs will be ready as well. Mayo and Wolf are doing good things. My take is by 2025 Maye will be starter, Baker will be WR1, Polk will be WR2A, Boutte will be WR2B, Demario Douglass will still be the slot "an elite one by then because he showed good flashes", Henry will still be tightend, Rhomandre Runningback and the Oline will be finished while the defense is still shutting teams down.

    • @ethanstechworld207
      @ethanstechworld207 Месяц назад

      @@britneyystaples91 I agree that you need a QB, but I don't think you need an elite QB to win a super bowl. You make very valid points. I think you got a great WR in Ja'lynn Polk (I'm a Washington Huskies fan) even though he was drafted higher than I thought. The big difference is if you let Maye sit for a year in order to let him learn and refine and build around him more. If you let him sit then that changes a lot of what I said.

    Whether or not trading back was smart, you also have to factor in the qualitative factors that the Patriots had to consider. The last five seasons have been disappointing for fans, especially the last two with basically zero offense to speak of. It's also the first season post-Belichick who was infamous for always trading back. Doing the same and giving up the opportunity to draft a potential franchise QB would have infuriated the fan base. Maye gives hope to fans for at least the next two years that they can turn things around.

      Exactly
      I would've refused the trade as well because I'm in a complete retooling and rebuild with my offense and my HC. I was a little surprised, when we knew QB was a given to draft, that we didn't try and sign an intermediate guy while the rookie gets familiar with the pro level. We have the cap space and wouldn't have went into total purgatory by doing that but Maye gives me a much better feeling for the future than Mac Jones ever did (I was MAD about that pick). Being able to extend plays and be mobile is almost a requirement for a QB now because the last pure passer who could see everything the defense was going to do was in the league for 20 plus year & happened to be the GOAT. I'm actually quite excited for this coming season but I'm also going to trust the process and time it's going to take.

And they have three titles behind that decision and now they are adding more and more pieces
      Better players who want to win a ring will also not have an issue for going to chiefs and playing because the success from getting him is very tangible. The Kelce thing is interesting. This season he literally was injured basically the whole year. And sure, it's a foolish errand to assume an older player is going to get healthier as years pass, but at the same time he has always been a particularly durable player. And if he is healthy he is a walking 100 catches, 1.2k yards and 8 TDs, and that being very conservative.
    And regarding him riding into the sunset if they win 3... is hard to get off the winninh boat when you're still near the top of your game. Gronk left the Pats after their last SB because at that point he was the ashes of his past self. He then went to the Bucs after a year away, they won the SB, he felt strong and decided to run it back.

      Weren't we down this rabbit hole with Mac already?
      Also, I'm a Patriots fan, that's probably the worst situation for a raw QB prospect to go to. They are betting on him having a Josh Allen type of development, and I guess assuming that he being a bit further the development path than Allen was will ease that transition. The problem is that they plan to do it with an unproven coaching staff and not particularly good offensive talent, because despite having excellent draft capital is not like they got out of this draft with a haul of players.
      After their first two picks it all felt very "Belichikian", as in reaching for guys rated dozens of spots below the pick they were taken in by the consensus. And say what you want about those kinds of consensus lists, reality is that experience has shown that reaching is rarely the way to go. And the Pats roster is littered with such guys. Cole Strange is the posterboy because he was a first rounder, but Kyle Dugger, for example, was a 2nd rounder, and he could have been drafted in late 3rd, if not in the 4th or 5th that year. Uche from that same draft class was a similar case.

    How do these geniuses expect to get Shadeur Sanders or Arch Manning with a built up team? If you have a built team you’re not getting a top 3-5 pick.
    They can bench Maye pretty much all year, that’s why they got Jacoby. They have the QB, they can continue to build around him. Instead of gambling on trying to get a prospect that isn’t even as good as Drake & delaying the rebuild, they got the best prospect who would more than likely be drafted higher than Shadeur or Arch. The defense is already built. Next year or two is full focused on the offense. This is a good plan & it was the right move.

    So the Bengals should have waited to draft Joe Burrow? According to Chris Broussard don’t take a QB unless you have pieces of offense around him. Burrow had no WR’s and had no o-line. Like this whole idea of continuing to trade down and drafting first round players is great, but you NEED QB. Is a year of Jacoby Brisset really going to turn you away from a QB that is arguably the best in its class. Now I don’t think he is, but some people that I respect highly do. And to think, why is the Minnesota Vikings trading this much for a QB when McCarthy is most likely going to get to them anyways. If the Giants wanted to move up that much from 6 to 3 for a QB when they didn’t even pick McCarthy, why is that? Seems like he is valued very highly by the league in the most important position in football. I think the Patriots made the right decision, and drafted a couple of receivers that can help him out as well
