    I'm a software engineer. I used to hack printer devices (for example the epson xp320). In their program, there is a hard limit on how much ink can be spent on each color on one cartridge. What it means is even the nozzle is not clogged/jammed, the program will still disable the ink cartridge via its chip and makes it look like the nozzle is end of its life after certain prints using that color. That is the main reason of refilling ink doesn't work that well. I verified it by changing the chip on that cartridge, and everything just worked again. Not only that, the printer body will have a hard limit on how many times you can use the internal program to clean the nozzle. After that the whole printer will just stop working if the limit is reached.

      Thank you so much for this information. You have no idea how I have been driving my self crazy with all the printers I have tried. I have own 4 epson and 2 canon printers and right now the Canon TR7020 that I have is showing that the black cartridge is not printing correctly and I had a feeling that it has to do with the filmware that I keep saying NO to the update. This information you posted here give me peace of mind that I am not crazy :) Any suggestions on how to avoid or fix all the limits you mentioned to make the ink cartridge work again?

    • @jasonliu3202
      @jasonliu3202 2 года назад +6

      @@VickyLatorreArt The easiest and most feasible way is to buy a bunch of the ink cartridge chips and change it when refill the cartridge. This still requires some $. Second way but may not work for all printers, is to buy one hacked chip for each cartridge. This type of chip when you run the printer program "replace the ink cartridge", the chip will be activated and update it's serial number to deceive the printer making it looks like a new cartridge. Third is to build your own firmware for the printer but it only works if you are the internal employee and have access to the source code. However, releasing the source code or the hacked firnware will get him/her into legality issues. Take my example xp320 printer, if you search xp320 refill chip, there are plenty of them on ebay.

      @jasonliu3202 2 года назад +4

      @@VickyLatorreArt Also for resetting the nozzle cleaning limit, there maybe software online depending on your model that you can buy to do the reset. Although people like me they don't have access to the firmware source code, but hacking the device via UART/USB so that they know what command to use to reset the limit. But those reset can only clear the nozzle cleaning limit not the cartridge life span.

      @@jasonliu3202 I purchased refillable cartridges with auto setup chips in the passed and they worked very well for me with the Epson Artisan 800 the rest of the printers have not give me the same luck. No matter what cartridge or ship they always end up not working. I was hoping me leaving Espon and getting a Canon would do a difference but I still have the same problem after I fixed it. This present black color cartridge I have in my Canon TR7020 stopped working. I changed the pigment ink to dye ink and used the cartridge clip Mr. Kevin has in his website and the cartridge came back to live twice. But now is doing the same thing again. I have tried everything. I have it soaking in water at the moment to see if that works. But after trying all that I have tried before I don't understand why it happened again. The only thing that makes sence to me it is what you mention about the limit and the filmware I have seen give problems to everybody. Thank you so much for all your imput. I really appreciate it.

    hi Kevin at BCH I like the information you provide in this channel. I would like to add a bit why there are 2 lines of check nozzles in each color on a canon printhead. Although in some types there are several colors that only display one line. From my observations why there are 2 lines of check nozzles in each color is because there are 2 lines of nozzles in each color and both have different hole sizes. One row has a larger hole diameter than the other (in certain types, 5pl and 1pl are listed). That's why we get 2 lines of check nozzles. However, in some types, we only find 1 line of check nozzles, possibly because the color has the same nozzle diameter size each side.

    Hey Kevin!
    Just wanted to thank you bro! For the very useful and accurate instructions. Specially, this one: "Do NOT give up too early...!"
    I've got a TS3440 PIXMA which has PG-440 & CL-445 cartridges. And I used to refill them with insulin syringes, without no trouble. But, after awhile the black cartridge stop printing even after refilling (I did not used to prime the cartridges at that time nor was aware of its necessity!) So I've end up breaking open the cartridge lid and removing the sponge trying to make an sponge less one, after seeing the near dry and almost white sponge in there. However failed to airproof the lid, everything was fine except for the ink flow to bottom plate. So I had to remove the lid again, though it was very hard this time- I had to sink the cartridge in acetone for several hours, trying to place back the sponge, fixing the gaps & ...
    After all, the most valuable tip of you which I kept in mind was "Do NOT give up too early, show your printer who is the boss!"
    Thank you brother, thank you very much!

    I'm having this exact same issue with my ix6820, definitely a failed printhead. The light colors for my CYMK test print are completely blank. If I print in standard quality all colors print. If print in high quality, the colors are half missing. I've used the ix6520 for over 10 years and never had this problem. Not even when I removed and cleaned my printhead. Owned the ix6820 for 1.5 years and it's been nothing but issues. Glad to of found your youtube video as confirmation, because it's been driving me crazy.

    Seems like the ink channels are all flowing after all those different cleaning methods, but maybe something electrical? As the 100% Cyan isn't firing 100% at all... but does for the Cyan 70%-80% test bar?
    All my CMY (and dye black) are NOT firing... but my pigment blacK does. The ink flows though manually, just not when printer executes the nozzles.

    Amazing how little inkjet printer technology has advanced. We got lasers, we can print on various surfaces, UV inks, latex inks and now we can sculpt/print in 3D! but yeah we still cant keep print heads from clogging and causing banding on prints so were over here boiling, steam cleaning and wasting tons of time trying to talk to tech support as you work as printer technician in a frustrating effort just to save a print head thats going to mess up again anyway later on so you bite the bullet and eventually buy a new print head/printer. Ok, printer manufacturers, you win.

    Canon MP520 ITs been a great printer. But the print head failed... or so I thought. I bought a new print head and at the 1st the printer did not recognize it. Then it did. Printing was restored slowly but there is no yellow. So I tested the print head in a different MP 520 = all colours have perfect saturation in the 2nd printer. So the yellow does not work in the first printer. Checked and cleaned gold pins on carriage with iso propyl = no change! Any suggestions? Eeprom, connection?

    i inform everyone with this kind of problems, that canon is being abosive trying to sell his printer ink with the following method ..., because i already had two high resolution printers of the same brand a mark ii that gave head problem because I used cheap ink cartridges when I wanted to use them just for copying so I stupidly bought a pro 10-sa to think that I would never have any problems but I was wrong, I need these companies for photography exhibitions of which I use the originals but how the ink is it is very expensive for more basic things I change the ink cartridges, only that both had false problems in the print head. whenever I used non-figdinios ink cartridges from the beginning it diminished the quality of purpose after it gave the print head a problem with some use or injected a few more colors, so I decided to do some tests I changed for all the figdine ink cartridges and she magically stopped giving problems, then not happy i decided on 2 or 3 white ink cartridges and it worked well on the table. again I added more altered cartridges and it was a problem after a few prints. So I decided to understand what was going on and trick the system to see if it was really ink or canon to sell your ink cartridges created a purposeful problem. and voila I drained all the original ink from the fiddinios ink cartridges and injected the ink of another brand for testing, so I printed many things and it was no problem, that is, the problem is not the ink but the canon, they do something to give problems on purpose. ... it was my conclusion I spent a lot of stress with this problem I think I am not obliged to always have to use the brand's ink ....

    If ink has dried within the head, using force or high temp will only make it harder to remove and ultrasonic and suction won't work. You want to start with the physically gentlest method . Start with low temperature chemical solvent and soaking, alternating with rinsing with warm water in a gentle flow in BOTH directions until the water runs clear. Check that head is clear of ink when resting screen side down on a dampened towel for 15 minutes. If any color emerges do another cycle.

    Thanks for this video... the issue broth me here is a bit different. Hope I can hear your suggestion.
    My original printhead showed double lines on the squares at the top - so I ordered a new printhead
    But, the new printhead is not printing anything below the graph with the squares at the top. Not even the black marks on the side. In other words my printer doesn't print anything color so far. A rainbow text will end up as a blank page, even if the printer is acting as printing, the paper has no color ink on it. But everything black comes out nice and sharp.
    Is the problem with my printer or my printhead?

    2:30 I don't think you're correct. Actually, there are different sets of nozzles, one that are able to project 1pl(or 2pl) droplets, and the other project bigger 5pl droplets. That explains why one can be clogged while the other are not. At least that's my understanding.

      That's exactly what I was about to write now :) So it means, that one nozzle for blue is still clogged. I realized that after watching this video ruclips.net/video/o8B5TAqymks/видео.html where you can see CMKYMC nozzles. Thats the same as in test pattern, where is only one yellow, but two cyans and magentas. It also means when you are able to clean printhead from topside opening, you cannot be sure that both (or more) nozzles for that color are cleaned.

      In my experience, this is what happened and the same may be the case for you. Ideally, you refill the cartridge before it is empty. Also, the refill works for me around 4 to 5 times after which I eventually need to use a new cartridge as no matter what I do for unclogging (or horizontal lines in print or missing C, Y or B in nozzle check print) it does not work. If yours is the original which has dried up, unfortunately, you will have to go for a new one as the same happened for me for an original 746S color cartridge if all techniques of isopropyl alcohol, warm/hot water, canon deep cleaning did not work.
