- This video explains how to clean a clogged, blocked inkjet cartridge.
With subtitles: ckick on CC button to activate subtitles in your language.
if you leave an inkjet cartridge sitting in your printer without using it for several time, it can clog. The clog occur when ink on the printhead of the cartridge dries up and won't allow additional ink to pass by.
If the printer head nozzles are blocked or dried out, you will need to dissolve the dried ink.
Use these methods only on cartridges with the head built into the cartridge, Like hewlett packard, samsung, and most of canon and lexmark.
Do not use in epson cartridges, brother, and canon cartridges without printhead.
it would be useless. in this type of printer, the printhead is in the printer.
If you fill a clogged cartridge, the new ink will not unclog the head.
- Use plastic gloves to protect your hands -

HOLY COW, IT WORKED!!! I soaked my HP 65 black ink cartridge nozzle in hot water for 2hours and it actually finally printed!!! After constant headaches trying all the troubleshooting options from HP with no luck, and replacing half-full cartridges, I finally know the solution. THANK YOU!!!
Thanks for making this video.
I ran hot tap water over the ink nozzles, dried them and then put my mouth over the vent on the top of the cartridge and blew. It worked! Ink flowed freely from the nozzles.
Splendidly thorough! It is remarkable how robust the cartridge is: they really do stand up to this seemingly harsh treatment. As one who rescued a printer from a charity shop and began to despair of fixing it after two weeks of internet research, then discovered that it was possible to get it working by this sort of treatment, I recommend this video and thank its creator for his public service.
Seven years later and found this very useful video. Number 4 worked for me. Thank you!!!
Thank you for helping us ink consumers to save money. Following your line of suggestions, I cleaned the HP cartridges and printer ink contactors using nail polish remover, a thinner-base strong solvent, and q-tips; the job took 2 minutes and saved two cartridges that were about 3/4 full. Not knowing this information, leave us to throw away expensive ink cartridges sometimes half full or worst. Thank you indeed.

After weeks of trying to unclog my cartridge, finally a tip that worked. The air can blast. Thank you!
Thanks a lot. Hot water followed by running on tap water worked for me.
Thank you for this video! I've been searching for remedies to reuse my cartridge. I want to save money. Then, Google brought me here. It worked! I tried #3 and #4. But I highly recommended #3 that really works for me quickly!! Thank you for uploading this video for the HP users like me. Thumbs up! :-)
Thank you for this! Soaked the tip of my cartridge in hot water for 45 minutes and it worked! Thank you!
Hice el número 4 y me sirvió. Lo hice con agua caliente y jabón de trastes. Muchas gracias por el video.

Well, in June 2024, these methods worked to revive 8 and a half year old HP 95 and HP 98 cartridges that were from an unopened box.
The color cartridge was a bit more stubborn than the black, I think because the color has Cyan, Magenta and Yellow in it, so it took a bit more effort to unclog it properly.
In any case, try these methods, it works, and thanks to whoever put this video up!
HP black cartridge soaked in hot water for an hour followed by syringing air into it . Now working perfectly . Many thanks .
This was brilliant. I was really stuck in a bind because the new toners cost more than the the printer itself as I got it on sale and I needed to print some important documents for the next morning and everywhere is closed Sunday night. The one that worked for me is soaking it in hot soapy water for about 2 hours. Thanks pal!
I want to confirm that your methods are great, you saved me a lot of money, thank you!
Thank you so much for the tips! I placed the cartridge head in warm water, and that really helped. Thank you :)
Thank you! My HP alignment test FINALLY said it was successful! The cleaning with rubbing alcohol worked for me on the 61XL black ink cartridge. I really, really appreciate it! Whew!
Thanks, combination of steaming the cartridge with vacuum cleaner did the trick. Excellent ideas!
Thank you! You just saved me buying a new cartridge. I had to hold it under water for about 4 min. Thanks again.
Soaking the cartridge head in hot water with a little liquid soap did the trick for me, I have filled the cartridge with ink beforehand but it was printing blank pages. I am so happy, thank you so much!
Woo Hoo ! ! I saw My neighborhood IT guy do something one time with an ink cartridge in the bathroom in the sink when he was fixing something else with my printer. He s not currently around and I did not watch everything he was doing at the time. I did not know what he was doing exactly.
In the last couple of days I ran out of ink and was bummed. I was getting ready to toss my cartridge and go buy another. Then it occurred to me to see if I can find on RUclips what ever the heck he was doing , ( he was doing something with that cartridge? Hmmmm, what was it ? ) , then Here You Are !
I could not believe It ! He was doing a couple of these methods you described. Thank You So So Much for Your Video! I feel all empowered again
Method 4 worked like a charm (even on an ink tank printhead). Very useful indeed. Thanks for the tips.
This is the first printhead cleaning video with non-invasive solutions that actually work

Non-invasive? He's fucking taking a vaccuum cleaner to it for fuck sakes! XD running it under a tap, and blasting it with air. if youre seeing more invasive methods to clean a printer head, you're doign it wrong.

@@marian8757 or stop buying shitty 20$ printers and get one with easily refilled cartridges....
Thanks for these tips. The No.7 method, using a vacuum cleaner worked on a cartridge that was dry for more than a year. The video was a great help.
SPOT ON! These instructions are the simplest bestest I have seen. I followed them exactly and its like I have a new ink cartridge. THANK YOU!!!
Over the weekend I tried this. I cleaned with alcohol first the cartridge, then the machine contacts. Little change in what it printed. Then I tried the hot water on the cartridge. I made sure it was dried well, then put it back in machine. Now it works great. It saved my having to buy a new black ink cartridge. I had not used my printer in about two years. Now it works great. Thanks!
Dear sir. If I don't use ink cartridge for long time and also it is not empty, will these tricks work?
Dear sir. If I don't use ink cartridge for long time and also it is not empty, will these tricks work?
Step 4 worked for me - brilliant video! Thank you so much - I was about to throw my ink cartridge away!
Thank for saving my life. Used soap water for cleaning for only a few minutes, then I blew on the top nozzle using mouth air, however, through towel. the ink started dripping. Then, I soaked the head in soap water for more minutes. Voila! It worked. Thanks man!
After refilling a cartridge and it still didn't print, your compressed air trick fixed the problem. You're a legend!
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! I ordered a very cheap unopened set of HP 56 and 57 cartridges. (I now believe their expiration date was in 2007!)I did the soaking in warm water for two hours. Now they are printing GREAT!
THABK YOU FROM 2024

Mera bhi printer block hoo gya hai kaise kiya hoo
Thanks for the help. I have a full refilled cartridge which was in the printer for about 6 months and had dried out. Nozzle cleaning did not help the ink to flow. I poured hot water from tap over it for 30 seconds, dried it off and replaced it in the printer. Ink flow was restored, fantastic result!!
Wow! The warm water solution really worked! I've been going crazy trying to get my cartridges to work. All is well. Thank You!
Thank you for your amazing fix! I’m really grateful to you. No 4 worked like a treat!
Tip #1 totally saved me a trip from going to the store and throwing away a perfectly good ink cartridge. Thanks!!!!!
No. 4 worked for me !
Hot water and ammonia based glass cleaner
The refiller shop told me that this ink was never going to work properly again .
And i would need a new 20$ one.
I had tried;
1)Cleaning head with many solvents including alcohol ,
2)HP auto clean 3 levels but nothing. What matter i did ,the letters kept printing broken
Your solution worked and the ink started immediately to work at 100% , thnx mate !
Immersed ink cartrige edge on hot water with ammonia for 3 hours , now .. some weeks after this , all working fine
+chris chriz use caution here the ammonia may attack the copper if it is exposed to the copper. limit the time in the ammonia atmosphere, regards

of course lol they want $
Dear sir. If I don't use ink cartridge for long time and also it is not empty, will these tricks work?
I put the whole printer in the microwave, now runs great, crystal clear pictures thank you so much
🤣
whatttt
😂😂😂😂
I tried so many of the other things suggested in this video before I watched this video and nothing was working. I tried #6 and that did the trick. I did not take enough precautions of my surrounding area and ended up with ink all over myself (mostly my hand). Got a major blow back from the ink cartridge out of the other two holes. But it works now, so I am happy even though I am covered in ink. LOL
Thank you! I hadn't used my printer in over a year. Tried a bunch of things today. But holding one cartridge under warm water for a full 10 mins and the other for 10 and later 5 mins, did the trick!
Just that simple? I am gonna give a try
I needed this for my canon pixma ink cartridge “head”. First I used hot water from the sink, that didn’t work. Then I tried #1 and that kind of worked. In addition to #1, I squirted alcohol into the cartridge “head” and that worked. Thank you 🙏🏻
This is the most helpful video I have ever watched. It worked!!
I'll be damned... the vacuum cleaner trick worked great. I was about to toss this cartridge in the trash. Now it's working again. Thanks!
EPSON printer was printing only one shade, took a vacuum cleaner after seeing this comment and everything printed out perfectly. Cannot believe this trick actually worked after spending two hours cleaning printer heads from crap advice online. Everyone, try the vacuum trick first!
Same here...was about to throw cartridge...put cloth with warm water and vaccum....working in under 5 mins !! Awsome hack !!
I was about to throw out a whole XL black cartridge because it got clogged after not using it for a long time. I tried numbers 1, 2, and 7 and it works again. Thank you!
# 4 worked for me. I can't tell you how many times I've thrown away a cartridge because it was just dry and clogged up from not printing in a while. I set the cartridge in warm water on an oven burner at (warm) temperature until black ink began to release. Then I replaced it back in printer and tried to print, the print was streaky and not right so I placed the cartridge back in the warm water until suddenly quite a bit of black ink started to come out. I dried off the cartridge and replaced it and now print was clean and perfect again. Thanks for the video!
Aunt Lorraine say 'very thorough video, thank you' : )
Thank you so much! One gentle isopropyl alcohol head and contact cleaning and two hot water soakings turned my completely non-printing HP printer into a fully functioning printer again. You are an angel, sir.

Thank you so much!!! It was extremely helpful to restore my HP Ink Tank back to service. I had to soak the printhead for 5 hours in hot water with a drop of soap and then resort to vacuum cleaner to clear the printhead. Again, thank you very much.
I was about to give hope, and option 7 worked! Thank you for this video.
FANTASTIC !! SHORT , SWEET , AND TO THE POINT.. and it worked perfect. Now printing in color.. Thank you so much
it works! i ran it under hot water. Thank you so much!
Terrific post. I was getting nothing from my HP 304 black ink cartridge; zilch. I put it in a saucer in hot water for 20 mins by which time ink was mixing with the water. I then ran the ink outlet strip under a couple of minutes under a warm tap. The result, I promise you, is blacker print than I've had from any previous printer. Thank you. I was off to get a replacement cartridge and had the problem turned out to be the printer, a new one.
I got stuck with skipping lines, banding by the newly installed CANON ink I just bought today. This really worked! Especially I think that the steam (#3 choice) helped clearly. THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thanks a lot! My printer is a little old and i've bought a few cartridges on the recommendation of my ink refiller. Now i'm tired of spending for replacement cartridges and was considering buying another printer. I tried this since I've got nothing to lose. The hot water totally did it for me. Although i was a bit worried cos a lot of black ink came out through the sides of the cartridge and when i tried wiping it i dont see a line of ink on the center. When i refilled the cartridge and printed the test page, it came out okay! thanks a lot! Saved me a few bucks! :)
Thanks. I've tried n. 1, cleaning with a cotton with alcohol, I've used ethyl alcohol, because I didn't have the isopropyl. But it didn't solve anyway. Then I used n.4, put the cartridge head of both catridges in a bit of warm water with a bit of dishwasher, leave it there for half an hour. They looked like new. The result was immediate. They are now printing 100%. I thought this kind of devices were more fragile and sensible to water. Many thanks. I've Learned something today.
After cleaning it, do we need to refill the ink???
Great video. It used the 10 min soak and my formerly clogged color cartridge is printing on all colors!
Thanks! Your tips were the ones that solved my problem. I had to print an important document ASAP... tried using the program from HP and they blatlantly said that my printer had a "serious issue" and I better contact support.
What did for me was leave in warm soapy water for a few hours (exchanged the water, to make it warm again) and when I was seeing much more ink on the water, then I finalized it with the damp cloth + vaccum). That did it!
Option 4 worked!! My black cartridge wouldn’t print at all, was smearing at first and soon stopped giving any ink. Submerging it in hot (90 deg celsius) water for about 20 minutes helped like a charm, wiped with paper towel and good to go.
Thank you for helping me with my "caaaarrrr tridge." x)

Thank you so much. This saved me throwing a cartridge away!

#4 worked a charm - neither my black or my color were printing a single dot but I soaked them as instructed in hot water with a bit of ammonia based glass cleaner in it for about 15 mins and working beautifully now!
my god this youtube video is unbelievable,i mean my god what a lifesaver,i used clean contacts ,i tried all of them but clean contacts did the trick.
This video can save people money. I have tried all these steps except for the vaccum cleaner. Instead, I would take a roll a paper towel and strike it with the writing head of the print cartridge to force the ink out. I have used a rubber tube to introduce suction from my mouth after I a got ink on my lips the first time I kissed a dried up ink cartridge. Thank you for telling it like it is. Great video!
thank to you!
viandant5 I just posted a video entitled "No more dried up INK CARTRIDGES" today. If it is OK with you, I will include a link to your video in my video. Thanks!

no problem, thank to you!
viandant5 done!
I tried option 7 and on my first try it worked. I was skeptical too. Very helpful.
I paused video, tried 3 methods- running hot tap water + steaming + kept head in ammonia solution in 2 minutes. Worked perfectly! Thanks a lot! I just heard about ammonia and decided to sink head in just ammonia solution.
Thanks a lot ❤️❤️❤️ my black printhead was blocked . I steamed it and then kept it in hot water for half an hour . And it worked for me ...Thanks again ❤️❤️❤️
This worked where all else failed. I had 2 FULL cartridges that didnt print. Amazing!
Option 4 worked very well, warm water + bit of dishwasher soap. (fixed in 5 minutes) Thank you.
RODALCO2007 only in water??
Let me try this method later.

Good to see you here! Nice vids you have
For my old refilled cartridge, water method 2:19 works best (5 minutes was enough), even without soap or chemicals.
This is genuinely something Humanity needs! This is awesome intuitive and You can find a method or multiple methods that work for You!
I clean the print heads on my cannon and HP so often, rubber gloves are part of my regular wardrobe.
WOW! This actually worked!! I did #5, runnung the printhead part under warm water but only for about 1-2 minutes & it literally printed right after inserting cartridge back in the printer. Thank you for saving me time and money. God bless you!!
God ! I tried solving this issue for hours and hours and finally your video helped me. Hot water tap wash worked for me. Thanks mate !
Thank you so very much for this video! First I tried swabbing it withe alcohol then I tried steam, the vacuum trick did the job! No more throwing away bad cartridges for me!
This video should be linked for all those crying for help in vain on HP tech support pages =P
Haha yes I followed all official steps of HP except the last one (bring it in for service). That should be: consult RUclips.

Thanks I learnt valuable things through this video.
Thank you so much. Your option 4 really worked for unclogging my cartridge. It is now printing fine for my black cartridge
So glad to find your video and reclaim my cartridges. The hot water followed by the vacuum got two of my non functioning cartridges printing. Makes me want to keep my HP.
Awesome. I had a tricolor HP810C cartridge that had been empty for over two years. I recently tried to refill it, but it didn't work.
I tried the method of leaving it under the faucet for a few minutes and it prints like new!
I was really surprised to try this and have it work. My cartridge hadn't been used in over a year. Thanks for the guide.
What one lol
Which one did u use
@@DuDZZ I tried method 4.
@@tracymontoute6104 I tried method 4.
Method 4 worked for me as well! Cartridge was nearly full so being able to reuse this was awesome
This Worked for me as well.. I am using hp 410 ink tank printer for last 4.5 years.. Yellow and Cyan colour were not getting printed. Did all the troubleshooting as mentioned on hp site. Even visited hp service centre. They advised replacing of printhead.. however one assistant at the centre also told me to dip printhead in water and see if it works. I tried with normal water but it didn't work.
I Was just about to order new printheads.
But as last attempt, Today I tried with hot water and also tried no 2,3 and 5.
It worked perfectly.. printer is working well with 95% colour accuracy which I think will improve as I print more...
Very thank you. Saved my ₹2000

My first response was ___ are u kidding me?!!! But surgical spirit and holding print head over steam kettle . It worked, it worked. Thank you
Well, this gives me something to do tomorrow during the lockdown. I've got 3 cartridges that don't work--including one right out of the package!
I have a tip for people that don't use their printers that much and soon find the cartridges are dried out and have to go through this list to revive them. When you are finished with your occasional use, take the cartridge out and put it in a sealed plastic bag with a wet paper towel. Then put the bag in the refrigerator (NOT the freezer!).
Even a month later, you'll see the droplets in the bag and find that the cartridge works fine.
I think I waited too long however. I hadn't used the printer in so long that the paper towel had dried out.
As the saying goes, "You don't use it, you lose it."
Same here. Hahahaha
I was ready to buy a new HP printer I had ny deskjet for 2 years and loved it however recently it started skiping and faded lines. I used your suggesion to to clean the cartage and now prints perfect. Thank you you saved me money!!!
Thanks so much for this video. Color HP 60 cartridge sat unused for a long time in the printer. Refilled with color ink kit but would only dispense two colors; not the three it holds. Had to clean the electronic strip with alcohol and blow into holes for all ink to finally come out and work well. Also had to let cartridge sit in luke warm water for about 10 minutes to help unclog the inkjet holes. Well worth the effort, considering how much these color cartridges cost.
Thank you from 2023!
Thanks a lot dude....i was going to buy new cartrige..after seen your video ,i tried varios tips to unclogged the cartrige..clean its copper part with alcohal ,but did not work, then i tried warm water,it also did not work, lastly i tried vacum cleaner method, which perfectly worked, and after did that,i printed thereabout 350 prinout.

Dude, although this is an old vid, the tips are hot! Especially the vacuum usage did it for me, what a great idea. My hope would be that alot of old cartridges can be saved. I have my HP for 14 years now and only had to buy new twice because of a bad chip.

YAAAAAA!!!! My black if finally printing. I left it in hot water for about 1/2hr and it is working fine now!! Thanks so so much!! This is awesome!!
#4 warm tap water and soap method worked for me! I let it sit for 5 hours though. Came back and the water showed that the black ink was coming out on its own. Saved me from having to dish out another $25 bucks on a new black cartridge. Thanks a bunch @viandant5

🎉 😂 super thanks to your video, I was able to fix my printer issues. I used warm water for 30 minutes, used a small syringe to pump in some pressure in the cartridge. . . And by golly wow! It really works 🤣😂
Soaking in warm water and soap helps a lot in 10 minutes. Thank you! :)
What soap☠️ any soap?
@@yuyuggukie Yes any soap. Add a few drops until you see a few bubbles. Nothing too harsh.
Thanks :)
I took a tissue and put it over the ink input whole side of the cartrage, then blew over it while keeping a seal. I was running the tap under it, and after a few seconds, the ink came out. The pressure did it :)
