    That Friday night was crazy. We were camped on the island with the big blue sun shade. After the storms, the boat with the 19 Cubans washed up. We stayed 4 days and 3 nights. Amazing experience! We did kyack to Loggerhead for some snorkeling and exploring. Thought it was crazy that we were there at the same time.

    Been loving this whole Dry Tortugas series. Very glad to have stumbled upon your channel. I look forward to exploring past and future episodes. Keep up the great content!
    I love the way you have customized your boat. Who needs a giant boat with 4 engines. Just apportion the vessel you have properly. Still not cheap to do - but worth every penny regarding safety. Especially when solo adventuring. If you ever want to fish the Middle Grounds, I have some amazing numbers for that area as it's a straight shot from my home in SWF.
    Tight Lines!

Fun to watch you trailer all the way here and launch right in my back yard and explore the things and places we take for granted. If you haven't yet done this consider launching at Bahia as you do, go north and anchor out in the Content Keys. Most of the "grumpy" holes would have all had cannons when the fort was built to protect shipping lanes. Original cannons were mostly scrapped. The cannons now there are replicas. Due to more modern cannons the fort became obsolete for that purpose then made a prison.

    Wife and I took ferry there from Key West for 25th anniversary. 2015. Went early May. Not nearly as crowded back then. Don't know if time of year or more people discovering the hidden gem. Ferry will bring all your stuff if you're camping on the island. Participated in Coast Guard "rescue" on way back to Key West. One of their search planes flying over us and then out to boat they wanted them to look at and back. Turned out to be previously reported sailboat adrift. Probably broke mooring during a storm while no one aboard. Interesting anyway

    Hi Capt... Wow! Your videos of Dry Tortugas are some of the best ever!... You'd make a great tour guide! I like how you stick your nose (and camera) in all the cool places that I went to look at too. I am amazed of the clarity of the water; we've been to the Bahamas, (on boat) and this water is just as, maybe even more beautiful...

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  2 года назад +1

      Thank you captain and yes this water's look very clear and nice because there's very little pollution in this area And also this area is very special because the Gulf and the Atlantic meat right there that's why there's a lot of storms sometimes And hopefully you can make it here one day even if you have to use the ferry you'll love it it's not that expensive I think it's a $180 per person and you'll be able to experience and if you want to stay here camping you can do it too and the ferry will pick you up the next day if you want I don't recommend it because of the heat maybe in cooler months you'll love it👍⚓️

      @@OutOnTheReef Capt.... I would never use the ferry; I just am not a 'touristy' kind of person! ☺ I'll go in my own boat; or I won't go at all....
      I plan to get another boat before I 'assume room temperature' (aka, expire) and, like our last boats, it will have all the comforts of home (like yours; except I don't need a coffee maker, but I DO need more beer storage! ☺).. I totally agree with you about Air-conditioning. Our last boats had reverse-cycle, water-source heat pumps.... I don't mind the heat and discomfort during the day, but I always get a shower before going to bed, and I WILL always sleep in air conditioning in the summers!...

      @OutOnTheReef  2 года назад

      @@andrewfyakim525 Another thing captain why don't you add an air conditioner to your boand I'm gonna throw your boat it wouldn't be that hard and just you have to make room for it but I'm sure it could be done you are an engineer👍⚓️

      @andrewfyakim525 2 года назад

      @@OutOnTheReefThat is a very good question; I have not yet decided on what will be the 'next (last?) boat'... I've already had THREE 'last boats'! and then I keep getting older, and want something else! ☺... I've learned from you that we can have all the comforts without have a huge boat; you are The King Of Comfort, on boats!.... The boat we had for 28 years, before the present P2520XLD was a 35' CT Sundeck. That boat just got back from a "Great Loop' trip with the present owners, and I hear it may be for sale. They did a major overhaul before the trip and did a 'fair job'; not a great job with the retrofit. The only problem with it, is it is a displacement-trawler. I now prefer to cruise in the 28-35 mph range so although the CT is big, heavy and has amazing comforts (2 heads. 3 showers. full galley. 3 cabins, 2 control stations, 300 gallons of fuel. 250 gallons of water. 80 gallon holding tank, etc etc) I now am not willing to go slow again. (Three boats ago, we had one that cruised in the 40-45 mph range!).... I like the boat we have now, (The boat is strong and sea-worthy) and that is a top priority to me. and I've considered doing all the upgrades to it, exactly like you have done to yours. I'm a 'bigger' dude than you, (must be that 'beer' habit ☺) so a 2530, or a 2830 would be more doable.... What next boat, is always a hard decision; I'm always looking....

    Glad to see safe and well. You made us hold our breath more than couple of times during the past night. Did you ever consider using more than one anchor? I know it sometimes can be a problem but during a storm it can be very helpful to minimize dragging. Besides your main anchor at the bow you can drop a good size MUSHROOM style anchor over the side towards the stern. I have tried it. It works really well and also helps stabilize the boat. As usual great video. 👍

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  2 года назад +1

      You have a great point there captain but I think 2 anchors may cause problems if you have to move your boat all the sudden Especially if I have to use the windows And using the mushroom that is a great suggestion captain that really helps to lower over the drag thanks for the awesome suggestion and for being awesome viewer of the channel captain
