    Great comparison. I definitely agree that the prior-gen AT's were the better looking. The vertical lines, longer lugs, and simple Omega sign on the clasp make for a slightly classier watch in my opinion. My all-time-favorite is the 8500 Skyfall AT that had those same attributes plus the framed date window and fully brushed bracelet. All beautiful watches though and I'd be happy to own any of them.

    I definitely favor the newer model. The horizontal stripes are more attractive to my eye and I love the date at 6. The ate at 3 is always a deal killer for me.

      I know many people share your view. If Omega could have kept the case shape of the 8500 (the nicely sculpted lugs) with the 8900's horizontal line dial, it might be the perfect watch.

    I just picked one up with the "white" dial on a tan leather strap and the orange seconds hand. A great everyday addition to my Speedmaster and Seamaster Diver 300. When I checked out Aqua Terra I found the previous model (and especially the bracelet) felt a little cheap to me. This new model feels more substantial all around, and with a far superior movement.

    Hey man, great video! I recently purchased an AT 41 brand new from an AD. Have you noticed any bracelet rattle on yours? Mine has a very slight rattle that I think is coming from one of the end links when I rotate my wrist. My Steinhart and Oris don’t have any rattle like that.

    • @omegawatchfan
      @omegawatchfan  4 года назад +1

      Thank you. I have seen some with slightly more rattle than others, but in general these bracelets are very well made and a new one shouldn't make any sounds. Even a very worn one is usually pretty tight, much more so than the older bracelets that did not use screw links. The sound you are hearing might be due to the springbar...perhaps changing it would help. Your AD might be able to change the bracelet if it is a significant enough issue.

      It does at times. The black does seem to reflect back yellowish light more strongly so it can appear to be not pure black in certain lighting conditions. It is not a very glossy black and it is definitely less inky and deep black as the SmpC (ceramic bezel Seamaster)

      @@icychap My pleasure. It does not seem the blue carries a premium in price over the black when it comes to the 8800 Aqua Terras, so my feeling is they will probably be valued similarly going forward as they appear to be now. • @omegawatchfan

      Yes, you probably could and since the individual surfaces are large (not like a bond seamaster bracelet for example), it wouldn't be too difficult. Very informational, did you notice any difference in thickness between the two?

    • @omegawatchfan
      @omegawatchfan  3 года назад

      Great question, I just measured using a simple plastic analog caliper. The 41mm 8500 is 13mm, the 41mm 8900 is 13.5mm (may even be a hair more but my caliper is not that precise). I do not know if this matches the "official" measurements, but this is what I got.
      One thing for sure is you can clearly see the 8500 is thinner because if you measure the 8900 first and then follow with the 8500, the caliper can be compressed further with the 8500. I will make a video to show this.

    • @omegawatchfan

      @@nytimes555c Yes...most of the attention has been on horizontal lines vs. vertical on the dial, as well as the date window placement, but the lug change is also significant and changes the look and feel of the watch quite a bit. The lugs on the 8900 are minimized whereas on the 8500 they really stand out...at least to me!

  • @TurnRiver
    @TurnRiver 2 года назад +1

    There are things I like better from the 8800/8900 version over the 8500 and visa versa. The longer lugs is a bit of a contention because I feel it depends on what you're eyes are used to. Same goes for male vs female end links. Shorter lugs with female end links help the entire watch wear more like a fitted bracelet, without any gaps. Longer lugs with male end links stand out more when looking down at the watch, but can have unsightly gaps when viewing the watch at other angles. The solution is to get both versions lol.

    Omega ruined the lugs on the new Speedmasters as well, they are short and squat with a less pronounced twist. The lug to lug has also been reduced by 1mm making the watch look more bulbous, this is highlighted even more with the narrower bracelet.
