Omega Aqua Terra: side-by-side comparison of 1st and 3rd generation models
While Omega's Aqua Terra line of watches has evolved with each successive generation, there are certain design elements that have remained consistent. Previously, I compared the original 1st generation model with a 2nd generation example, highlighting their similarities and differences. That video can be seen here: ruclips.net/video/Pww_pT0FFI8/видео.html
Now, I compare an example of the 1st generation Aqua Terra with a 3rd generation model. Both have black dials, and wear quite similarly. They are equally versatile, beautiful, and well-made timepieces suitable for use in a variety of environments. While the 3rd generation model has significant technical improvements over its predecessor, ...

Omega watch reference numbers explained (1988-present)
Просмотров 1 тыс.4 месяца назад
Modern Omega Watch Reference Numbers Explained Omega's present reference numbers are a cumbersome 14 digits long and very difficult to remember. This reference numbering system is called "PIC14" by Omega. PIC stands for "Product Information Code." This is in contrast to the former system of numbers, simply called "PIC", which was used from 1988-2007. PIC numbers were 8 digits long, with the las...
This $10 mesh watch band looks surprisingly nice on an Omega Seamaster 120m

link to mesh band: amzn.to/4aIj1iG I wanted to find a mesh band for my Omega Seamaster 120m and came across this one. Since the band did not look super thin (like most inexpensive mesh), I decided to buy it and give it a try, knowing that I could easily return it if need be. Is this the #1 "sleeper" Omega? The Seamaster 120m is an underrated watch and great value
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Is the Omega Seamaster 120m a "sleeper"? There are certainly favorite watches among Omega fans. Speedmaster Professionals, The "Bond" Seamaster, the Planet Ocean, and others. Then, there are watches which are underappreciated and in some cases, forgotten. One such example is the Omega Seamaster 120m made during the mid and late 1990s. The Seamaster 120m was manufactured in large numbers and wit...
Why I prefer these "modern vintage" Omega Seamaster watches to the current Seamaster 300m
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.7 месяцев назад
I consider Omega watches of the late 90s and early 2000s to be unmatched in the combination of design, comfort, quality, and value. While Omega's newer watches may boast of having more advanced materials and movements, the older models are superior in thinness, design simplicity, and value. I have selected three watches from the "modern vintage" era which I believe are great (and cheaper) alter...

Omega's Seamaster Professional 200m was produced from approximately 1987 to 1995. It preceded the much more well-known Seamaster Professional 300m "Bond" watch and is often referred to as the "Pre-Bond" Seamaster. As you can see today the design of the 300m continues to lives on while the design of the 200m has been discarded. While this watch may appear unusual at first glance and even out of ...

    The crystal does let the 1st gen AT down, but I guess AR was less common in watches of this era. However, the 1st get bracelet still looks great with that taper and invisible clasp. Great video and looking forward to the next one!

      Thanks! The 1st gen bracelet is really a work of art. The slider clasp may not be the most strongly built, but it excels in function and form. Functionally, the bracelet is super easy to put on as it opens very wide. As for form, like you said the clasp is invisible and it adds essentially no thickness or bulk to the bracelet.

      Micro adjust is so useful. Lately, I've been using some JDM Citizen watches which have a simple micro adjust mechanism built into the clasp. It really helps with comfort throughout the day. If Citizen was able to offer this feature on much cheaper watches over 10 years ago, Omega really has no excuse to have not implemented them across all their watches by now. I've heard mixed reviews on the micro adjust they have included with the newest Aqua Terra, but I'm glad they finally are including that feature on them.

    how does the titanium hold up to scratches ? Can they be “brushed” out ?

    • @omegawatchfan
      @omegawatchfan 10 дней назад

      The titanium used on the older Omegas I believe is called 'grade 2' and it is untreated, therefore it scratches very easily, but the scratches can also be brushed out easily as well.

    The Citizen appointments are gaudy along with the thick border around the date, kills it for me. It's such a contrast to their less expensive watches that are not overdone and look classier. I'd rather have the better internals of the more expensive Signature with design of their AW0087-58H or a vintage 7 star.

    • @omegawatchfan
      @omegawatchfan 24 дня назад

      A very valid critique...have you seen the NB1050 or NB1041 from Citizen? Similar quality to the Signature (slightly below in my opinion, though still very good), with more classic and less gaudy designs.

    Amazing insights, didn't know those existed. Wonder if applied markers also have something to do with bezel being thicker, since hands would need to clear the raised indexes. I have the electric blue 2255.80 and absolutely love the thinness and the amazing dial. Also since those are speedy bracelets, I was able to swap my clasp from 1861 speedy on to it.

    • @omegawatchfan
      @omegawatchfan Месяц назад

      Thanks. I believe the primary reason for the thicker bezel is the thicker white gold insert that it has to accommodate, but it may also have to do with the dial as well. The case dimensions, particularly the thinness, are my favorite aspect of these watches. That's good info regarding the speedy clasp which can be attached to these bracelets. Always nice to have more options!

    • @omegawatchfan
      @omegawatchfan Месяц назад

      My wrist is thin, about 6 3/4. The Spirit of Liberty is large but on the thinner side so it does not feel bulky. Also, the wide lug width of 22mm helps make the case diameter not appear as large.

    • @omegawatchfan
      @omegawatchfan Месяц назад

      Yes I believe so. I've seen people put the 2254 bezel insert on the GMT. If you are willing to use an aftermarket insert, some have a different, smaller and more modern font for the numbers. I believe there is even an all black aftermarket version with the same style as the OEM GMT bezel insert, which looks better than the OEM in my opinion. Also, since there is no "pearl" at 12 o'clock for the GMT bezels, the aftermarket ones look very close to the OEM.

    Great video! I am looking to but a steel watch. Can you provide info into the quality of the Omega vs. Hamilton. Are they using a special type of steel? Is there a finish on the polishing (i.e. scratch resistant) that one should consider? I have tried to find what makes a bracelet far superior than another as you stated about the Omega, but have not been able to find info on this as a newbie to the watch world. Please provide insight (materials/engineering) as to what goes into making the Omega a far superior watch. Thank you!

    • @omegawatchfan
      @omegawatchfan 2 месяца назад

      Thanks. There is really no difference in the type of steel used nor any difference in scratch resistance. Where the difference lies is more in the manufacturing. The tolerances for the bracelet are much less on the Omega resulting in a more well put together finished product (though the Hamilton is not bad in this regard). You will also see better finishing of edges and design elements that require more work to produce (such as the twisted or lyre lugs on the Omega). The crystals are different as well, with the Omega having excellent anti glare coating while Hamiltons usually completely lack that feature. The dials on both are nice but the Omega's is more intricate and almost glows especially in combination with the superior crystal. Despite all this, I still believe the Hamilton is an excellent product for the price and I wear mine regularly.

      Perhaps I am in the minority but I prefer the older 8500 movement Aqua Terra. I like the case shape and bracelet design better on that one. It has longer lugs and the bracelet links are less flat, giving the whole watch a more "sculpted" look for lack of a better word. The dials on both the 8500 and 8900/8800 are beautiful and the clasp on the 8900 I find to be more comfortable, but I have to give the edge to the 8500 due to the overall appearance.

    Nice review, I have one of these in the larger 41mm size bought new in 2004 and it is still going strong. I love it esp for travel due to ETA quick hour hand shift for time zone/date adjustment, also for it’s a “tank” like robustness/durability. Only complaint is the bezel can be near impossible to turn due to the scalloped edges not offering a solid grip if my hands are wet.

    • @omegawatchfan
      @omegawatchfan 3 месяца назад

      I completely agree on the bezel and believe it's one of the few shortcomings of an otherwise great watch. The bezel looks nice but it is not very useful and difficult to turn. And if the bezel becomes worn through wear or polishing it becomes near impossible to get a grip on it. The Planet Ocean bezel in comparison is very easy to turn.

    • @omegawatchfan

      I don't have a measurement but it is noticeably thicker and the watch is more top-heavy as well. While I like the 2230 dial a lot, I think the 2254 ultimately has better proportions and is superior in comfort.

      I’m thinking about buying a 2230.50 right now and swapping the bezel insert. Do you think that’s a good idea? Would that resolve the top heavy issue? I really like the slimness of the 2254.50 but if 2231.50 is noticeably thicker then I might not do that.

      Hi, I just saw this reply. The bezel insert for the 2254 is thinner than the one for the 2230, so it may sit too low in the 2230 bezel (the 2230 bezel itself is thicker than the 2254 bezel, to accommodate the thicker insert). However, I have never seen that done before so maybe it would look ok. I think a straight swap of the bezel might be better than only swapping the insert. It is a shame, some years ago it was possible to get those nice dials and just swap them into the 2254, but parts are much harder to find now.

    The laser edge globe is from 2007 onwards watches. I have a 2006 model, that doesn't have that globe.

    The titanium one looks a much better, cohesive design.

    Great video! I’m interested in getting a Seamaster 200. It ticks all the boxes for what I’m looking for in a watch. However, I’ve had no luck finding one in decent condition without scratches. Could you recommend any reputable retailers that currently have them in stock?

      Are you looking for a particular version? I got my nice one at a good price from a non-professional seller (on eBay) after a lot of patient searching. I believe if you restrict your search to watch stores alone, you may end up paying too much. That being said, I have had a few good experiences on Chrono24 and would definitely include them in any search.

    I've had have the 2264.5 for almost 20 years and really dig. Still the best lume of any watch I own. And love the sword style hands. But in a moment of madness (about 15 years ago or so), I decided I liked the smaller numerals of the bezel insert on 212.30.41.61.01.001 and switched out the bezels. Looks pretty good IMO, but scratched the lugs a bit getting the original bezel off. Never realized that this watch would become kind of a classic. Glad I kept the original insert, but some scuffs were made.

      I am very open to switching bezels and trying out different looks, but the smaller numerals generally match up better with the dials that have the small indices and vice versa. Though that did not stop me from putting a 2264.50 bezel on a 2532.20 (white dial "bond" smp), which I really like despite the mismatched dial and bezel.
